I had a great visit with a good friend today. Roger Parmley is a great Wheel Horse enthusiast and collector. He has done some very nice work at preserving some of the better model Wheel Horse tractors. I visited today as he had most of his horse out of the stable and running ! He was getting ready for this year's show season ! I could not pass posting some of the photos we took as you very seldom see a collection that has so many nice tractors! I know how much we just like to look at these but today I was able to drive the 876 Automatic and the 500 Special around and enjoy the thrill of operating them. This was in between visiting the welder today on my RJ rebuild, gridning down my frame for primer, painting the RJ frame with primer ! (those RJ frame photos will be on the "So You Want to Rebuild Your Three Piece Transmission" thread Stevasaurus is doing with a great deal of participation from the Red Square Community.

Picked up this Raider 14 a few months ago, after debating for a couple of months i decided to restore the old girl. Pulled it in the shop, started a list of what i need and want to do, then pulled the tired old kohler and got it up to Paul's (oldredrider) over the weekend for a rebuild. Lane had the nos dash plates picked up one of them. Picked up some smaller items I'm going to need so we are off and rolling…slowly... This will be a slow build but will keep it updated with pics as progress continues…... i will have plenty of questions as i go along…..

We had sum nice weather this weekend so I got my trusty old commando 8 out and got it ready for sum garden work. I added 26 11-12 ATV tires witch fitted without any mods and put inside wheel weights on the back and home made weights on the front. I tried it out and seems to plow very good. Weight distribution seems to be about right

that drive pulley is gonna be crazy fast!
  15. 4 points
When my 10hsp did that...it was the adjustment screw in the top of the carb. Notice the position of the slot in the screw...turn it in while counting the revolutions until it "gently" bottoms out. Back the screw all the way out and use carb cleaner and a fine piece of wire to poke in the holes in the end of the screw. Replace the screw going all the in to bottoming out and then back out to what you had in the 1st place. Should be like 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 revolutions. Adjust the screw to get the best idle. Just a little dirt can cause this...mix some Sea Foam with the gas after this to keep it clean. Hope that solves your issue.

Damn all the "experienced voices" we are losing!! I guess that is just 'time marching on' -- Bob, real glad you are pain free and having had occasional back pains in the past I totally understand any decision you make to keep yourself in a pain free state

If you look at the manual they call the lever a parking brake, it loosens the drive belt and engages the parking pawl. In all likelihood most pawls have been chewed up to the point that they don't work, but there is was one there.

WOW...that has got to be an OUTSTANDING experience. What a collection. I hope you are going to clean off the dirt on the tire treads when you get them home.

What a great herd, thank you for bringing them to us.

Well s**t Bob, this latest news is definitely NOT what I wanted to hear from you. I hope you'll be able to stay involved with the Wheel Horse scene, and continue to share your knowledge and experience, and fun stories, with the rest of us. Is there a chance we'll still see you at future Big Shows?

Ed, my 876 has the holes for the hood emblem and I got one to fit mine. I think the parking brake is the pawl that seats when you pull up on that lever on the right side. With the tow valve closed, and that lever pulled up, the horse will not move without hurting it...or taking that chance. Am I right there??

That ambulance is going to sum it all up. I'm afraid of it already. Ordered a new carb today. It should be here by Friday, bit the class ends next Tuesday. So if I don't get done at school I'll be haulig it back to the farm and tinkering on it here and there whenever I can. My classmate brought a carb in that was close to the same as mine and we had it running well. Then all the sudden it goes wide open without touching it. I'm getting pretty frustrated about the whole situation and I will be searching all over Craigslist tonight looking for another motor. I did get a picture today...which I will post. And I will keep everyone updated on it as much as possible. And I have a very short clip of it running so I will upload to YouTube also in a little bit.

When i adjust that same screw in (while adjusting carb) if i go to far in it will do that ,, so i usually just turn it out a half a turn out from there and she is right on the money and not to rich ,, nice plug burn no carbon build up , so after ya clean the jet and are doing the final adjustments ,, give that a whip...

Glad your healing process is on schedule Bob. But please don't give up un the horses. We have mirrors.

UPDATE - I had my 12 week follow-up this morning with my surgeon. Everything is looking great. All the hardware is still in place, and the fusion bone is starting to knit with the vertebrae. He said that the healing is right on schedule. However, his prior instructions of "no bending, lifting, or twisting" still remain in effect, and he says, unless I want to look forward to more surgeries in the future, the "no B-L-T" shall remain in effect for the rest of my life. Of course I can bend and lift a little, but right now about 20 pounds is my lifting limit, and I can bend using my hips, not my back. Asked about getting back on the tractors his comment was "okay as long as I drive forward. Twisting to look backwards to see where I am going in reverse is a no-no." So, with that in mind, it looks like this may be the end of the Wheel Horse hobby for me. I may keep one, but as of now, I feel like selling the rest.

I would definitely rebuild that muffler. Because of price and availability. I`m not much of a welder, but I think torch welding or brazing would work. Just time involved in making a new center tube...

Thanks Phatboy for those very kind words. With all the good people on this site, it is almost like a fight to be the 1st one to get into a thread and help. Being retired gives me a chance to do that. DeHart...yes, you want to take off everything on the outside of the transmission. Have you decided to open up the case?? If so, you are never in over your head while you are here. Take lots of pictures also.

this thread has been sparse on updates - having moved house and starting other projects... It's time bendy had it's hydraulics finished, there's also a heap of other jobs to complete, including stopping the rear drive slipping when under water, rebuilding the magnum engine, adding a diff lock indicator, etc For now, here is the D-series spool valve mounted with easy reach levers and linkages and decal to finish it off. I'm just starting on adding a power steering pump to the axle, driven from the clutch.

taps and buckets, we only tap 5-7 trees on the property. I've heard of some university in the north east growing saplings then topping them and pumping sap out of them. I've wanted to try it but haven't built a pump setup yet. They said something like "you would think the ground would start to dry up and crack for all the sap we can pull out of a sapling but they stay healthy and continue to grow"

The Seat and steering wheel is worth the price of admission. Take your time on the seat and you can bring it back. These are hard to find in white. It looks pretty good for a 65. Gary B...

So where's the pic of the odd 401?? Did you build that light bar when it was dark out?? Fine example of necessity is the mother of invention engineering without putting perfectly good holes in pefectly good hoods that can't be replaced!

These pics were taken about 1998. That's my 1977 B-80 with me and my daughter who is 18 now. I've used this tractor for all my mowing, snow pushing, and yard work for 23 years now.
