Sold a d-180 to my friend from Shipman Il. We had a fun time packing it into the S10, had to take the lower 3point arms off and the snow blade all apart and here is a picture of the loaded truck

I've had three miniature ponies and two Llamas in the back of that van as well, piece of advice, don't go through the Dairy Queen drive through to get them a ice cone, or the girl at the window will run away and not come back.

Seeing that horse in the back of the van makes me want to buy a big ole van for hauling horses

Last year was my first year to go to the big show. I was thoroughly impressed and amazed at the scene as the wife and I approached the grounds. It was a sea of Wheel Horse. Every size, shape and description of The people friendly and more than happy to talk about their collection or tractor or parts that were there, or just about anything else. I probably should have spent more time trying to get to know people, but all the tractors had me dumbfounded, and couldn't get enough of just looking at what was there. Even the little woman was impressed and happy she had went. So it's back again this year

I just saw your cool big show banner picture Major. You've got the type on the left. I'm beginning to think the Ponds would hold special meetings to plot how they could drive folks nuts 50+ years later.

You amaze me Jake. Ya might want to keep an eye out for rust on the bare metal. Steve and I were on Skype yesterday talking about it and we may have drooled some What is that filler you're using?

My RJ parts have been sandblasted and lightly primed. A few before blasting photos and some after. Going to have to make some new gas tank support straps for the RJ hood. I have a new gas tank which has the neck in a little different location on the top of the tank. The old gas tank straps will have to be removed. I removed one set that was a replacement piece held on by two rivets. I am thinking that I can have the new straps welded on a plate that I cut out (from some newer Wheel Horse hoodstand plate material) that has the 2 and 1/2 inch hole for the gas tank neck and cap. This should then be able to be welded on the underneath of the RJ hood to strengthen the overall tank placement. Here are some pics of parts being looked at.

I got a bit more involved playing with a couple of tractors that were given to me and not staying with this one. I got the crankshaft replaced in the K91 and the tins painted. As I've said many times, I'm not a body man and I really struggle with it. I wanted to put one more coat on the hood but the weather wasn't cooperating until yesterday. Sunny, 70's, low humidity and light winds. Just as I was rushing to get it in the screen room after spraying it one little green bug landed on it. It's barely stuck by his feet and I think I'll be able to buff it out. You can see him in the pictures if you know where he is. Zoom in and he'll say 'Hi'. The hood straps are way thicker than normal so I extended the gas tank filler neck. I enlarged the hood hole and will put in a gasket like what the Lawn Rangers used.....I think. Some drying time, paint the letters, decals, finish the motor and I'll be set for a picture to send Terry for the big show banner.

We got 4 inches in an hour today, about 6 inches total in about 3 hours. During the first hour, visibility was about 30 feet. Drove home at about 5 mph. Cleared the driveway with the 520 and the regular blower that I added a tall chute too. Tried the NH GT22 with the 2 stage, but the inside of the chute is complete rust. since I got it in December, it has been too cold to clean and paint. The 520 cleared my driveway in about 6 passes, took maybe 5 minutes. Saw my neighbor out with a tiny little snow blower, so I just drove right across the lawn and gave his 4 passes and let him clean up with the blower. My wife called and said she was on her way home about 30 minutes ago, so I went out and used the GT22 blower like a low to scrape a path for my wife, and put down ice melt. I don't like her walking on snow with her knee. The GT22 had an oil leak in the auger gearbox, so I topped it off before I used it, and when I parked it, I stuffed an old sweatshirt under the gearbox to catch drips. You see where this is going, don't you? After I pushed a path out for my wife, I flipped the blower on to toss what I scraped up. Heard the most God awful banging noise from the blower. Shut it off, backed back in the garage. Yep, I have a sweatshirt wrapped around the impeller. I'll have to cut that out tomorrow, too cold right now.

@Martin you are absolutely correct, I hadn't looked at the model being an 875 Hydro. I was just impressed by the great job done by the builder of this brake system. Hydro or manual, the results are the same; if you put the motion control in neutral the transmission will hydraulically lock up as if you put on the brakes, but this is transferred to the differential where the tire with the least traction will stop rotating. For flat-landers that is no big deal, come down a mountain and this takes on a whole new meaning.

Traded a Craftsman 42 inch tractor, one like this - but used a whole more - and two more junkers of the same model that would be good for parts. for this bad boy. I think it was a good trade.

For those of you who don't know about this sport...go Google it....naw just kidding. ..I have been doin this I was knee high to a weed hopper. ..born into it you might say. This happens every year on Lake Winnebago every year 2nd weekend in February. Quite the family event as it gets everyone out of the house and on the lake. Prehistoric fish don't ya know and tastes like mud, but some guys love it. A few pics from years past. Tomorrow. ..looking down "the hole"

I like when it's a digital stat. It says the room temp is 74. and they will say, " It's says 74 but I KNOW IT"S NOT 74!"

Don't get me started. The women I used to work with kept the heat at 80. I shoved a towel in my heat vent, and still it was almost 80 in my office. They had an old dial type thermostat, so I cut an eraser off a pencil, and stuck it in so the mercury switch shut off sooner, at about 72. They set it to 80, and the real temp was 72. I would walk through their office and say, hey ladies, are you nice and warm? Oh yes, it's nice in here, don't you dare touch it. Oh, no problem, I am comfortable too. LOL

And I have offices at 76 and the ladies complain about being cold!

Thanks guys....................Sparky Was good meeting you as well, This is a 400 Suburban I picked up. No prize but the price was right! I would have left it original and just got it functional......but it was 1/2 primer and 1/2 rust, so painting completely was really the only option. It is PROBABLY a little small for me, but I think I will be able to have some fun with it.

Then I would keep looking for a "C" series or a 300-400 series machine. I think that the 800 special uses a different plow setup since you cant attach the plow frame to that Peerless aluminum tranny. Mike........

We got maybe 2 inches of snow, but the way the wind is blowing, gusts to 30 mph, and the temp at zero, and they say is the high for today. Good day to curl up and hibernate until the wind lets up some. I might finally be able to try out the tractors just for fun, unless we really get some more snow to actually make it a test run. I kinda of hope so because all they have done sit it in the horse barn all winter only coming out to run down the 1/4 mile driveway to get the mail

It is Winter and some of my time lately has been spent on one of the snowblower forums. I have had additional thoughts on lining the chute. Yamaha manufacturers walk-behind snowblowers that are not imported to the USA. One thing that they do is line the rear of thechute with a teflon plastic. There is a supplier on the popular auction site that sells UHMW sheets. The thinnest that they sell is 1/16" which might be able to be bent to conform with the chute. The other thought I have had is to see if there is a way to eliminate the "step" at the throat of the chute. If you look at how the snow exits the auger housing/bucket, the snow is directed to the rear portion of the chute. It seems that some snow is allowed to tumble at that point which leads to clogging with wet snow. The UHMW could be spaced out from the rear metal to allow a smoother transition.

Is is documented that this ships... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halve_Maen ...progress up the Hudson river was slowed because of amount of Sturgeon inhabiting the river. Not so anymore though... http://wwf.panda.org/what_we_do/endangered_species/sturgeon/ ...even the Bee Gee's wrote a song about 'em back in the seventies.

Technically, the brake linkage doesn't go to the hydro, directly anyway..... It connects to the direction control mechanism underneath the console cover and moves it much like the lever used to go forward and backwards. The only area the 'brake' pedal and linkage differs, when comparing to the direction control lever, is that when the pedal is pushed all the way down, it only returns to neutral from what ever direction the tractor was going in.

if you are not changing the end plate or crankshaft you would use the same thickness gasket and shims (if there are any) on the end plate new bearings will not change end play Brian

I just ordered the rebuild kit yesterday morning looks like I should have the parts early next week then off to the machine shop, hopefully will be reassembling in 2 weeks but in my spare time I will post a few little things I like to do in the meantime to be ready for assembly. Keep checking in

I personally love the shade-tree engineering on that braking system! I wish had put brakes on the wheels rather than the transmission. i live on a mountain side and have had the brakes become rather useless because of the design. Since the brakes are on the transmission and the stopping power goes through the differential, the tire with the least traction will stop rotating and the tire with traction will freewheel. My neighbor was grading his driveway with his 310-8, bumped the shift lever with his knee and it slipped out of gear. He applied the brakes and one wheel was skidding and bouncing as he went faster and faster; when he got to the switch-back on the driveway he and the went over the edge. God was watching over him because his mid-mount grader blade snagged on some mountain laurel about teen feet down the bank stopping him. I like two brakes!

Do the checks Ed mentioned. Also make sure your hi/low shifter is fully engaged and not between the hi and low. Please report back when you do that. We don't want to rewire the house cuz the light bulb burnt out. You definitely need to flush the transmission as well. Make sure you have a good shifter boot on it to keep water out.
  50. 2 points
Well, It's pretty easy. If the gears are shifting OK, there might be a simple disconnect in the drive train. The first check is with the tractor running and the transmission in gear, check both axles to see if one is turning inside the hub. If one is turning, the key is sheared and must be replaced. If neither axle is turning, then remove the belt guard and check to see if the transmission input shaft turns when you turn the pulley. If it doesn't turn the shaft, the key is sheared or lost. If the input shaft is turning and neither axle is turning with the transmission in gear, you have a broken gear or shifter fork inside the transmission and will have to replace or rebuild the transmission. Do a search for " transmission repair" and you will find excellent instructions by member stevasaurus on these rebuilds.
