"Blind hole" puller just arrived from China. covered in oil to prevent rusting in case the "Si-Pan Express" sank! Goes from 8 to 30 MM. Now that I have it I probably will never need it!

I think most of us are Denny. Just going to take me some time to to go back and add the logo to the first 23 banners. I will get yours updated soon. Thanks Denny and it will be a great time in PA this June. Better call and reserve Buddy's room.

Aldon, I can say nothing bad about the Quincy. I work at an Electric motor repair shop and thru the years have had the chance to see several Quincy's of the 5 hp size, and they go for ever. They are relatively quiet, each had the pressurized oil system. I'm not familiar with Saylor Beal. Compared to the other brands I have dealt with the Quincy is heads above them. They are heavier, and seem to run at a slower RPM. I think this adds significantly to the longevity of the unit. I didn't realize you could buy one without an auto head unloader and no way would I use a compressor of that size with out one. Starting current is the issue. Unloaders allow the compressor to obtain good starting speed before the pressure becomes a load to the motor. I agree there is little gain from 60 gallon to 80 , however if you plumb two together on separate starters you can have the benefit of both pumps cfm to aid you on high demand applications. I f one starts at 90 psi , and the second at 80 psi you may be able to maintain your sand blaster as long as needed. Most residential power service would be unable to start 7.5 hp , or 10 hp comps, but could easily run two once started . Hope this helps. Quincy is tops in my book.

Keep it as close as possible to the power source. I would use a 10 amp fuse. If the third light has the same wattage you'd be pulling about 6.75 amps.

Terry, I'll be there but I'm hoping to get a pic of my 400 for the banner but I still have a bit to go. This is such a generous and cool thing to do. One thing though and I hope I'm not being too......too......something here. I am a WHCC member and like the logo on it but....maybe put it after the user name. I'm not a vet but have a great deal of appreciation and respect for those who are. Kinda saving that spot in front of the name for the men and women who played a part in our freedom?

We have 4 of those just like your cutaway. Identical except for special rings for climate control app. We had one sieze up and replaced it. We kept the bad one and freed it up and kept it as a spare emergency unit. We had a Kellog brand pump go and tossed that used Quincy on. We ran it another 7 yrs. before it started pushing oil out.

Looking forward to meeting you also. I called Wild Bill and he was totally OK with putting the WHCC member logo on your banners for those who are WHCC members.

Thanks guys. I am definitely getting old. The range was wired with 6awg. Perhaps oversized due to length of run. Had 40 amp breaker for stove. I remember now that when I wired the circuit to the garage, I did not need that amount of current. So I ran lesser Awg to extend circuit and lowered breaker amperage to match. So so your both correct. Simple for me to pull that section and swap in appropriate breaker and complete 6AWG to the new compressor. It also means that I'm gonna pull the trigger on the larger Quincy 7.5 HP Pressure Lubricated unit that WHX6 posted link to. Not yet sure of vendor yet though. Plan on deciding that and ordering it tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback.

How many amps is the switch rated for? Better check. Any continuous draw over 5 I like to wire in a relay. The relay handles the load and the switch handles the half amp of the relay coil.

Just finished giving the 312H w/ 48" blade a 3 hour workout. This was the perfect 8" heavy wet snow for a plow. No 5-6 ft drifts requiring a blower.....sorry 520H. I cleared 3 blacktop and 2 concrete driveways, the stone road, and a path in the grass to the woods in 3 hours. I was truly amazed at the amount the 312 could push as the snow rolled up 2-3 ft at times. There was never a lack of power or traction. I am now a believer in the rubber chains as they performed equally well on all surfaces. I have an idea for a set for the 520...later. The only place I lost traction was when I was pushing snow over the plow and also a couple inches of stone at the bottom of the blade. The dummy operator had the plow set too deep. Here are a couple pics... I don't think the tires are loaded on this one, but the wheel weights and those 4 brake rotors off the F-150 was enough weight. I feel better now that I found a use for the $1000 worth of rotors I had to replace. I did miss the foot control and it will be added just like the 520. Luckily the 312 does not have the hand control on the steering column, so it will be easy to convert to foot control. Have to get the blade angle powered also....has anyone used a WH lift cylinder for this by simply teeing it in at the hydro ports?

Supposedly caused by out gassing of hydrogen gasses. Dielectric Grease is common prescription. I would probably go with CRC battery protectant spray of similar.

In years past, Installing tire chains in sub freezing temps, getting up several hours early to get to work, and dreading the work ahead when I got home was punishment. But now, I can sit inside and watch this beautiful snow fall while enjoying my coffee and honey soaked bagel. When the snow stops this afternoon, I will get a few hours of seat time inside the heated cab of the 520H clearing snow from the neighborhoods driveways and may even have enough time to take a walk on the big shoes. Snowstorms for a retired old guy with plenty of horses is not punishment.

Yes, tighten the rivet but don't get too carried away. One of mine is now too tight and hard to move. 60" deck is great, mows well, no scalping. It is very heavy and awkward when off of the tractor. I use the front end loader on my bigger tractor to move it. Cleat

I bought a 5 hp 2 stage 80 gal vertical back in the 80s brand new and never looked back. It will put out 21 cfm @ 175 psi. Sandblasting and painting plus air tools were my priorities and it does a lot for me. I blast with a TIP model 100 with an 1/8 tip max. And never tax the compressor.. 2 stage is what to look for if your going to do blasting.IMHO

Plumbing to another tank won't help much. On initial start it will give longer run time but after the pressure drops, the comp will run longer because it has to fill up all that extra storage area so you really don't gain a whole lot.

Like Jim said...it is Regal Red from Rust-Oleum. I happen to like the Rust-Oleum and Regal Red is a very good match for the older Wheel Horses. Krolyon, makes a good red also...I think it is Cherry something. If any paint has an IH Red (International Harvester)...it is a good bet you could use that and it would be close.
  38. 2 points
That can of Rustolem you see there is Regal Red if I know Steve ... That's what most of us use. There are a bazillion posts here on the "proper" red but the general agreement here is as long as it's red. I think another member said it best .... proper color red is like throwing hand grenades ...just get it close!

Thanks for the "don't do something stupid reminder". I usually do stupid "I knew not to to do that" stuff like that at least once a year. If its been more than a year I will do it on purpose just to get it out of the way! Just put a cluster gears in upside down in a 3 piece 3 speed just to give my self some practice in taking them back apart.... Is pretty bizarre that the snap ring decided to just hop axles!

That's the way its suppose to be. Throw the electronics away and buy the kids a horse.

Already been there I mounted the toggle switch on an old metal plate I had. Some how the plate touched a cab bolt and wing chow baby we had FIRE the wire smoldered a second then the casing began to drip then I ripped the wire off the battery this all took about 2 seconds. As for the toggle who knows ? it is an old stainless toggle switch like you would see in a truck dash. As in 18 wheeler truck.

I believe that some new replacement throttles have solid rivets, so if you have one of those some drilling may be required. Here is a photo of a screw thru a hollow rivet:

WHX6, The holes in my belt guard are 3/4. I haven't had issues with breaks in the area around the holes so far. Haven't put any fingers or toes through the holes, either! I think a punch would be faster, but I don't have one, so I went with a cheap step-cut drill bit from HFT Masked the area with tape, drew it all out the way I liked, and used a center-punch to dimple the start point for the drill.

Not much progress but a lot of filling, sanding and metal pecking on the hood. I was looking back through my paperwork and trying to figure out just how many hours I did have in this project. Best I can figure it is about 180 hours. I also have built a media blast cabinet and acquired a plasma cutter, larger pulley puller, bearing puller and an e tank. Still need to buy a ring compressor, valve spring compressor, and valve lapping tools eventually. I ran across this picture that started this whole project. I think I need to change my member name to NOREGRETS. LOL Another picture towing it to the work shop from the front yard. The Raider 12 will be next when I have the 854 in working order.
