Once again it is time to start thinking seriously about the WHCC Big Show. Every year I try to bring something for our forum support members who are attending the show as a thank you for your continued support of our forum. This year I have decided to do custom photo vinyl banners for your shops. If you are going to the show please post here and upload your favorite tractor photo or email it to me so I can set up your banner to print. I will be taking orders through May 31st and will have your banner waiting for you at the show. Not sure what I will be bringing for the drawing this year but as last year we will enter you in the drawing when you pick up your banner. Looking forward to seeing you all again this year. the banners are 12 x 30 inch. perfect size for any shop and you can not beat FREE!! Thank You all again for your Support and friendship. Terry & Lola Dennis This of course is not my tractor pictured on this sample. Make sure your image is large enough to print well.

Well, I decided on the top left. Decal is installed along with the model and serial number tags on all 520's and the blower. Terry sure does make great decals. My 10 year old daughter Bailey has been playing with my Dad's old Lionel train set tucked in with the Wheel Horses (sorry about the green tractor). Cleat

Hey guys I have a 1977 C-81 I got from my Grandpa when he pasts away. I am slowly restoring it and im using it for snow plowing and mowing in the summer. He had some chains for the rear tires but they seem much to big so I ran to Fleet Farm and got some spring to tighten them up. They still do not seem right so im wondering where I can get the correct chains? Im also looking for a new steering wheel as this one is cracked, im looking for all the original stickers so I can re-paint then put the correct stickers on. And I need the chain the hooks the mower deck to the handle that raises and lowers the deck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Ill make a list below and throw up a picture of her. Im sure I will be looking for more parts in the future that I will add. Thanks Parts Needed: Correct Tire Chains New Steering Wheel Original Stickers Chain That Attaches The Mower Deck To The Handle.

Just joined today and really enjoy this site.I'm loving all the info and pictures of the best tractors ever built [Wheelhorse of course] I own a 1964/604 restored,a1964 lawn ranger, and a 1971 800 special. I will post pictures when I figure out why it won't let me lol. I have wanted to get to the show in Arendtsville in June and was wondering if anyone knows the proper address so I can punch it in GPS. someone told me it was in Biglersville? any info would be great. Thanks

Just joined the forum. I have a GT 14 I've owned for about 35 years and have managed to keep it running and mowing, with generally minor issues. Its a 1969 Model 1-7441. From time to time, I have some problems or glitches that occur that sometimes need input and info from others more experienced with Wheel Horses than I am. I hope to learn here. I have a question I'll be posting shortly. Regards, Steve * Please review my introductory topic. GT 14 rear wheel hub

You can always connect to one or two links from the end to effectively tighten the chains. Deck lift chain you can get at any hardware store. Do you also need the trunnion and eye bolt ? Eye bolt can also be easily sourced. Chain simply bolts to lift arm. Stickers come from here http://www.redoyourhorse.com/ Cleat

Here are a couple. I know it sounds silly, but pushing snow with my son's suburban has got me wanting a bigger, heavier horse of my own. Brings back memories of riding a charger v8 with my grandfather. Plus my mom bought the Burban for my son and we lost her in October and I really don't want to tear it up!

I wanted to get something done today...way too nice out. I was just going to watch the E-Tank do it's thing, but as usual, something needed to get done so I just don't waste the day. Cleaning up the axles with the 4" grinder with a wire wheel was the answer. I needed to do this so I could see if I was going to have to turn the axles around. Here is the before...one with a flash. The flash catches more defects. They actually clean up very nice. The 2 on the right are the worst...they were in the RJ from Iowa. The one with all the rust, goop and water in it.

Well I just want to thank all you wheel horse guys out there that helped me. I got the 520 purrrrring like a happy kitty !! It did not have that log jet tube in it. Someone was in there and did not apparently put it back in! No wonder it ran like it did. No more hunting and running like it had a bullet shot through it ! Thanks for the photos Martin that tipped me off on it.

I wonder if he clean up the shop before he took the photo. Wood floor , gas heat and the place is clean. I can't even see my floor or workbench. I know they are where they should be , because of all the stuff piled up.

Here is the tally so far. 16 support members going to the Big Show. Shooting for 50 support members this year. Also if for any reason you can not come please let me know by May31st. I am also working on some items to raffle off again this year so remember your number. We will have a wooden nickel with your number on it and when you pick up your banner we will put your nickel in the drawing pot so pick up your banner as early as possible after you arrive to be included in all the drawings. prizes and drawing times will be posted here when we figure it all out. If you are planning to go to the big show and are not yet a supporting member of the forum this would be a great time to consider becoming one.

Your hub has shown willingness to move so that's a positive. The one I am restoring, detailed in GT 14 Restomod thread, was rust welded and I broke 3 or 4 pullers. My resolution was similar to DaveOman's but with added muscle of a 10 or 12 ton hub hydraulic puller I got off amazon. Around 100 bucks if I recall. Also, if you have a spare hub you can use it as shown previously. Here are partial pics of my event which caused a 2 plus week delay in my restoration process, much aggregation and way more blood and sweat than one would think possible until you actually tear one of these old beasts apart. I have one I would send you but it's buried in winter storage. If your still in need this spring remind me and I will send you one.

As I offered in the Yahoo Group...but I don't know if you read it or not: This is your pic and I edited it with some notes. Release or remove the jam nut(s) #4 in this pic. Wrench the #1 bolt until it stops. By 1/2 turn increments, wrench the bolt(s) #3 also tight, and UNIFORMLY to preclude cracking either hub. After you progressively and UNIFORMLY tighten the perimeter (four or five) bolts #3, whack the center hub-puller bolt with a dead-blow hammer...with some violence apparent. Repeat the process until the hub is broken loose. When it breaks loose, use the #1 bolt to slowly pull it off of the axle shaft.

I wish I could give three "likes", one for each of those 520's! Mine all work just fine, but it will be a long time before they get rebuilt like those.

That looks great. The wife will love it hanging on the wall over our bed.

Well, That should pose no problem for me.................Everything takes me a little longer to get done. I have some significant back problems that limit driving to short duration only......at best.......PA is just WAY TOO FAR ! Wish I could go though!!! I was previously more of an engine collector, however over the last few years I have taken more of an interest in tractors...........Easier to move them around.......Turn a key and go.... and you can drive them around at shows. So far.... I have the pieces in primer at my friends shop....maybe later this week I can start shooting the red topcoat. I also have a couple pics of the steering wheel and seat...the gentleman I bought it from said he thought they were not correct, but now after looking at others photos. maybe they are right............regardless that's whats going on it though......close enough!!!! I will be reading up on taking the tranny down correctly Thanks for the info!!

I too have a GT-14, mine has a front end loader and is a real work saver. Lots of folks on here to help with answers, also you can use the search function and you probably will find a thread with answers already there,.

Are you going to the Big Show in June?? This project I am doing could be done end of this month (Feb)...weather permitting. That's what I meant by "in a hurry".
  25. 2 points
It is possible that Lane and I will have an extra bull gear differential for you. Are you in a hurry? When you get yours apart, post some pictures of that and the other gears. Right now I am working on a transmission trilogy and not positive what is spare yet. If you want to follow along on this, here is the link. I am thinking we will be able to help you out.

I'm going out this Saturday to pick it up. The guy who is selling it is really nice and even said that if I get there an it's not what I expect, that I don't have to feel obligated to take it. I feel pretty good about the purchase. I'll send you some pics late Saturday night or Sunday morning after I wake up from a coma induced from all the driving. Aldon, I'll be passing through the Roanoke/Christiansburg area on my way. You don't have a good front blade that you'd like to part with really reasonable do you? OOPS never mind, I thought I saw on your profile that you were close to me here in VA, but I see NY on your avitar.

Thanks for the axle photos Steve. Looking good! Yes that RJ tractor also had four bad wheels too. Not one worth saving after removing the tires. I have a another complete set to use on the rebuild. Glad to see that we have two very good set of axles and like you indicate the Iowa ones can be repurposed by drilling a hole on the opposite end! Here a a few picks from today as I took the RJ apart. I took the frame, hood and seat pan to the sandblaster today. The gas tank was rusty and had a rust hole but I have a new one for replacement. The steering wheel and shaft were removed. Steering wheel was shot and I have a new steering wheel (One of the Cub Cadet 11/16 th splined ones) being drilled out and a roll pin hole being added to the steering wheel hub at my local machine shop. The steering block off the RJ also needed the roll pin pieces on each end removed. The original roll pin had rusted off the steering shaft.! Here are a few photos of the latest work. The frame after sandblasting will need a new left support bar welded to the hood support-original was broken off. Gas tank supports seem ok but new hood bolts/studs are going to be needed after sandblasting. I may also just have hood worked on at local body shop. Final picture is of the pallet with the Wheel Horse parts ready for sandblasting.

I like it on the left as well. Yes, the blower was completely overhauled last summer with all stainless hardware. I like nyloc nuts as nothing comes loose. The tractors are mainly stainless hardware as well. Cleat

Those 4 little bolts could end your wheel horse fun in a real hurry. lol I want to know the numbers on how many wifes killed there husband since 2004! Not to but I found a bolt laying in the garage two weeks ago or so. Once I replaced the other two hanging on with new bolts , I went to throw them on my scrap bolt pile and went HEY! that looks familiar. Sure enough the bolt I found was one of the missing bolts but never put 2 and 2 together... Oh well. I dont feel as crazy now about overlooking missing bolts last year. So those suckers fell out recently! Oh well , the story has a good ending atleast.

I'm showing my age but growing up in Chicago we used to be treated to visits from the "Scissors Grinder." The cart was red and green, and he would pass through our neighborhood about twice a year sharpening knives, scissors, axes, etc. We could always tell he was coming as his cart had a gong with a distinctive sound pattern. If it was summer, the group of kids would follow along to our "play boundary." Those were the days of corner stores, milk man, vegetable man, rag man, junk man with his horse, and beat cops.

Hey everyone, I've got a few questions for some wheel horse experts. I'm looking at a wheel horse that is supposedly a 520H XL. The guy said he bought it from his neighbor who bought it new. He says it has the original 22hp kohler motor and has power steering. He also said the major differences between a 520 and a 520 XL is that attachments mount differently and they got the 22hp kohler with power steering. I gave him a call and it doesn't sound like he is trying to BS me although he also said that he is unable to send me a pic. I'm asking you guys about it because not only am I not familiar with this "520 XL", I've never even heard of it until now. Any info would be great, thanks

The Decals showed up so I could install the throttle and choke cables. I decided to 'move' the hole on top f the hood and keep the existing fuel tank on the HF engine. The is room to remove the filler cap and pour through the new hole in the hood. We'll see how this works out. Still some welding to do on the hood and then paint it. I also plan on adding some support to the front of the hood where it attaches to the tractor frame. It is pretty rusty and pitted there and part of the old lip is gone. Ted

Cleat is correct all you need do with the chains is tighten them, you made need to remove one of the cross cleats if you can't tighten enough, chains come in two and four links (one cross link for every two links or one cross link for every four links). Same with the broke eyebolt just replace what's broke the old parts and chains are much stronger then the new one's so use what you have.... Here's my C81 ready to hit the white stuff made mine two (2) link. That little bugger pushes like a bull dozer..... weights don't hurt either.

I bought this MB-405 Mid-Grader Blade two years ago and I was real please with the modifications the previous owner made to allow the plow to be used in the rear slot hitch as a pull behind plow in addition to being used as designed in the middle of the tractor as a grader blade that could be angles left to right. First two photos are with MB-405 Grader Blade on my 704 Wheel Horse (which I sold late last year) I am posting for those that might want to modify or create a new one like this for their tractors. The last few pictures show the modifications that include an added tongue for placing in the rear Wheel Horse slot hitch and moving the 3/4 inch attach-a-matic connection up about an inch for better clearance under the front steering mechanisms.

I believe the part numbers are: Elbow - Stens 120-196, Grommet/tank bushing Stens 125-336 They are available multiple places. The usual auction site has them individually and as a set. I purchased seperately as I was ordering multiple sets and that just happened to be cheapest.

Thanks, It looks like chrome from 10' away. I got the hood back from the metal shop today, they added 2.5" for me to accommodate the larger engine. This weekend I will begin the 'body work' needed to make it look new. Ted

Since you are building a Rat Rod Horse how about a tank like the "Gassers" used hanging out front and fill it with cement for weight.
