I sold my 520 to a fellow member. The guy was a true gentleman. He used U-Ship. He had it shipped from CT to PA for $155. The shipping company came yesterday at 10 am and he received it 14 hrs later. Just thought Id let you all know. Its nice to have mutual trust in a transaction and I find that that goes on alot on here.

OK so NEW grade 8 bolts and lock washers. All 4 bolts replaced. I dont mess around when it comes to that stuff. Blue thread locker and beleive it or not , I even torqued them to spec of 35 ft lbs. I just got home and read all these comments and had a good chuckle! Good to go now

Here are a couple. I know it sounds silly, but pushing snow with my son's suburban has got me wanting a bigger, heavier horse of my own. Brings back memories of riding a charger v8 with my grandfather. Plus my mom bought the Burban for my son and we lost her in October and I really don't want to tear it up!

But reminds me of the traveling salesman that dropped his shoes off at the shoemakers to be resoled. Turns out, he didn't have occasion to return to this town for several years. When he stopped in and inquired about his shoes, The old shoemaker, after looking through his records, said, you are lucky, they are almost finished. You can pick them up tomorrow.

I wanted to get something done today...way too nice out. I was just going to watch the E-Tank do it's thing, but as usual, something needed to get done so I just don't waste the day. Cleaning up the axles with the 4" grinder with a wire wheel was the answer. I needed to do this so I could see if I was going to have to turn the axles around. Here is the before...one with a flash. The flash catches more defects. They actually clean up very nice. The 2 on the right are the worst...they were in the RJ from Iowa. The one with all the rust, goop and water in it.

I bought this MB-405 Mid-Grader Blade two years ago and I was real please with the modifications the previous owner made to allow the plow to be used in the rear slot hitch as a pull behind plow in addition to being used as designed in the middle of the tractor as a grader blade that could be angles left to right. First two photos are with MB-405 Grader Blade on my 704 Wheel Horse (which I sold late last year) I am posting for those that might want to modify or create a new one like this for their tractors. The last few pictures show the modifications that include an added tongue for placing in the rear Wheel Horse slot hitch and moving the 3/4 inch attach-a-matic connection up about an inch for better clearance under the front steering mechanisms.

The scarfier blades help break up the soil you are trying to move. The box blade is a good way to drag dirt from one place to another. Here is a simple one I built. I also have homemade. hydraulics

You know, this mutual respect seems to go without saying around here. But it is worth noting once in a while. Besides the red stuff, it's what makes this forum addictive. Everyone trusts each other. I bought a tractor from a member last Spring. Rented a truck and drove 200 miles to pick it up. The tractor was better than represented and the owner was the greatest guy in the world. Never met him before. Shot the breeze with him for an hour and headed home. He passed away three months later. Not sure there is a plaque anywhere for him. Telling the story is my way of respecting him.

I've ( should say the wife ) have made transactions with others on the forum and never had a problem . I've even had fellow members message me if they see a part I'm looking for elsewhere . People of RED SQUARE seem to really try to help one another . It's probably a side effect of this sickness that most of here are afflicted with .

Here is a picture of my 72 Raider. Sorry it took so long to get them out. Today I finally got it running and for the fact its been sitting for so long it sounds really good.

No seat time this winter at all. Was inspired by Vin and Martin's video, so I dug the RJ out of the shed for a ride. No sun so no glare off of the chrome gas cap and polished steering wheel cap. Gotta have some bling! So here's the vid. Sorry about the narrow screen. Got a new phone and if I hold the phone the right way to record, It plays sideways on the phone. Shooting it with the phone upright, It plays it ok on the phone but shows up sideways on the puter. Youtube plays it the right way but with the narrow screen. I will have to experiment with a shorter video to get it right in the future.

Kind of...has to do with being safe. This was on the news last week. Since 2004 there has been 8 cases where dogs have shot their owners. Then they checked to see if any cats have done that. 1 cat has shot it's owner...knocked a loaded gun off the counter. I don't know if they checked if any monkeys have done that.

Years ago a friend purchased a tractor. Was chomping at the bit waiting for delivery, couldn't wait, excitement was killin' him. Drivin' to work one morning he saw his new machine on a flatbed trailer at a truck stop. Stopped, sure enough was his. Needless to say, he called his employer, "Can't make it in today. Not feeling well." Liar. I think he missed a couple of days. Sicker than he thought. Liar. He was out drivin' 'round his property just 'cause he could! Mowin, turnin' dirt, photo shots. Sick? The fresh air made him physically well in a few days. His mind is stilled screwed up, tractor nut!

Well I just want to thank all you wheel horse guys out there that helped me. I got the 520 purrrrring like a happy kitty !! It did not have that log jet tube in it. Someone was in there and did not apparently put it back in! No wonder it ran like it did. No more hunting and running like it had a bullet shot through it ! Thanks for the photos Martin that tipped me off on it.

I am unsure where to put this specially made maroon decal for my 2 stage blower (thanks Terry). I know where the original on was but maybe there is a better place for it. Where should I put it ?? Here are some examples where I have the decal held up with masking tape. Thanks for your input, Cleat

Think I'm going to pull the trigger. Next Sat is my b-day. Need something to brighten it up a little. Gotta let the gentleman know tonight. I think I would be ok - might even bring the extras up to the big show if I get to come (been wanting to for 3 years, but something always comes up).

Upon going too see another friend I may have a line on a 2 stage blower for the Dxi, when leaving out the door I run into fellow trailering a 417-A,we swapped stories for a moment said it was his dad's from new (asked if it was for sale lol) no of course but he had "all" the attachments including the generator wow I said lucky you...I don't think he knew what he had till I told him...a couple quick shots in the rain, now off to work,Jeff.

No but, I can relate. Seems all are waitin' for "the" Horse to follow him (or her) home. I've had a few from nowhere jump in my pickup! Ask the Ms., I told her all about it each time it happened!

Since it's you first year I would till in the leaf mulch before planting. After my plants have sprouted and are a few inches tall I put down about 4" of grass and leaf mowing's that from the yard. This top cover helps hold moisture in and does a great job of keeping the weeds smothered out. Early summer I might add a few more inches of clippings. Then in the fall I till this in. (Kind of a composting in place routine)

I had to go 72 to be as wide as the wheels. Tractor with cab and loaded tires weighs in at 5600lbs on the truck scales at work. Traction would be better with ags but they would tear up my yard. Turfs would plug up with mud then plowing. R4's are what I ordered on the tractor for that reason, compromise. Cleat

Maybe we need to switch to studs like all the diesel truck guys do on their cylinder heads? The torque output of a is serious business!

I fully understand what you guys are talking about. Although, even here in my little town(growing slowly) we DO NOT have any big chain-ripoff stores. Our hardware store is an ACE. But their whole family works there. So, at least it seems local. Our NAPA is also family owned and operated. The owner and his son are always helpful with finding parts for me or at least pointing me in the right direction if they can't get them (I can't hold it against them that they are CUB cough/gag/choke Cadet fans). We have a few local grub shop owners that are good too. Must be alot of pull from these little guys. No big outfits have convinced our city planners/council to let em in YET!!!

I've been to the boat shop Tony's talking about. Dropped off a 1965ish Evinrude big twin maybe 8 years ago and not only was it diagnosed asap...it was fixed quick with parts in stock!! Old guys have mountains of knowledge and its all gone when they die. I've been at power equipment parts counters trying to explain what part my 30 year old Kohler needs and hate the blank stare you get from the "kid" behind the counter. I find myself scanning the place for the old guy cause he will know exactly what I'm after. Mike....

By the way I think I know which was the last one to fall out through mechanics forensics. The bottom hole, the bolt went right in so must have been the first one to go. The top one I had to clean the threads up with a tap before it would even think about going in. That poor guy must have been holding on by a thread or two and then it ripped out from being the only bolt left on that side. All this means absolutley nothing but maybe worth noting. Dont mean to scare everyone into crawling under there tractor in winter but I know I will be checking all mine and putting blue loctite in spring!

I better go crawl undermine tomorrow and check. At least it is going to be warm here-60 degrees in MA.

When I had a Snowblower on a C-145, I was out hitting the neighbor's driveway pretty good. We had over a foot on the ground. The bolt that holds the chain for the mower lift bar fell out and that bar was dragging. I backed up and that bar caught and lifted the entire rear off the ground! I had to drag my 2 ton floor jack about 500 ft. to get the tires back on the ground.

Update on my trip to WV...upon my visit to my old dealer I found out exactly what was for sale and actual bottom $ prices of the N.O.S. 522xi with 48" deck and 12 demonstrator hours $5900 FIRM (still making my mind up on that 1) he also has 2 N.I.B. Xi 48" snowplow/blades,then the 520H with 275 actual hours and 48" deck (charging system problem, regulator?) $1200 (committed to buy this 1) ,then the Xi with engine problem(s) previous owner lost oil drain plug while mowing but supposedly engine still turns over by hand well guess what it's a 523dxi with 282 hrs $800 (also committed to buy) even if engine is toast will it be worth it to find/buy/rebuild this engine?Jeff, Pics of Xi's below...none of the 520H

Those 4 little bolts could end your wheel horse fun in a real hurry. lol I want to know the numbers on how many wifes killed there husband since 2004! Not to but I found a bolt laying in the garage two weeks ago or so. Once I replaced the other two hanging on with new bolts , I went to throw them on my scrap bolt pile and went HEY! that looks familiar. Sure enough the bolt I found was one of the missing bolts but never put 2 and 2 together... Oh well. I dont feel as crazy now about overlooking missing bolts last year. So those suckers fell out recently! Oh well , the story has a good ending atleast.

Sorry if I'm late to the conversation. I need some too. "Spring clip nuts." They make them for machine screws and sheet metal screws. I'm going to Lowes. See ya there.

Many moons ago the business I was managing had an Ingersoll-Rand air compressor that failed, rented a replacement compressor and we were back in operation, called the parts department to order the parts and paid extra for next day shipping. Next day a package arrived with only a few of the needed parts; the rest was on back order! Called them and asked why they hadn't told me they didn't have the parts when I placed the order; answer, "I only receive the orders, another department fills them". Turned out my friendly NAPA store had everything needed in stock, only way I found out was I was venting when I went in there on the way home.

The box blade especially if the scarifiers are down deep is the hardest thing my tractor pulls at times. I usually require 4x4 engaged. It does a great job of loosening and levelling but because of the sides holding material in it can get very heavy. For a garden tractor I would think the mid or front blade would be as good or better, just my 0.02. Here are pics of the 72" unit for my CUT. Hydraulic top link is great for the box blade, it lets you keep adjusting the depth of cut on the fly. Cleat

This...and the next generation won't put their phones down long enough to care and learn it. Not sure where the future of it will be, but I'm betting it'll be way worse than it is today. I "liked" Tony's 1st post that started this thread....but I really don't like it. Ironic.

Thank you very much!! its a lovely project to have. They are for me nothing beats them! James Thank you very much and no problems i try to take a fair few. A yes you are correct on that i always use the correct safety equipment. thats also true i have had that happen to me before and its not nice so as soon as i get one or so fly off i change it and throw the old one away so it cant used. (i have quite a few new ones ready for using) Thanks any way James

You do need the lock washer. If you are not sure...put an awl or a 3/8" bolt in and measure what you have...give a little room for tightening. Squonk...you are correct. It is not rocket science...if the bolt is too long...put in a shorter one. And Mike is right again, Wheel Horse used some different length bolts...when you can not find them, you can cut them to length.
  43. 2 points
Terry's right...put in the missing 2 and then replace the other 2.
  44. 2 points
Maybe I'm over thinking this....But after you replace the first two, Maybe remove and replace the second two. Just thinking those could have been overly stressed or something while the frame was moving back and forth. Wouldn't cost much and better to be safe than sorry.

Looking good I would till it in and plant in that for this year Then add more mulch in the fall. Couple years of this and your soil will be in great shape. The seeds can be purchased at home and garden centers and small home town hardware's. They can be purchased in those envelopes but it is cheaper to buy in bulk (usually by the scoop or the bigger seed like beans and corn is sold by 1/4lb , 1/2lb , and by the pound ) As far as critters get some 2ft tall chicken wire at your local TSC or Rural king. Drive some stakes in the ground around the garden and stretch the chicken wire around the stakes and wire it to the stakes, Hope this helps and good luck

If you can't find a number, NAPA should also be able to measure it and find a duplicate.
