11 pointsHere are a few pics of what I did for 7 hours today. Sorry, no action shots....Mrs. K doesn't go out in the snow. Time to kick back and watch some football.
-
10 pointsWe pulled the 502 out of storage this weekend, after quite a few pulls to prime the fuel pump and carb we ended up with a good weekend of fun. My little brother in law and my girls had a blast in the yard and in the corn field behind the house!
-
10 points32 inches. whew! 520 did great even with the short chute single stage. did have to take bites out of the drifts. finished up and then the spring broke...
-
10 pointsAgs, fluid filled, iron wheel weights, 2 link chains and a 120# weight bracket no problems with traction on pavement or grass with 2 stage blower and 2 feet of snow...turfs are ok but for me the age get the job done.
-
10 pointsFinally used the 518xi for cleanup today. Worked it a little harder than I should without the chains on. Still managed though. Snow total was 32.5 inches for my area! The county still has to do their part though. Hopefully within three days!

10 pointsFirst of all thank you Ken B for this unstoppable machine. Its been quite a few years and every time I sit on this thing I love it more and more. Having an extremely steep driveway one has to see it to believe it. Doesn't matter if I am going fast, slow, forward, reverse, even with a full plow of wet snow. Its absolutely unstoppable. The plow guys stop on the street all the time to watch me and just shake their heads in disbelief. And thank you David Luzier for rebuilding the Sundstrand for me. Absolutely first rate class work. An already incredible machine has now become even better. Totally reliable and predictable. Bone dry with no leaks. It will go up a three foot high pile of snow until I am nearly vertical.

8 pointsI just got home from an 11 hour round trip drive with my dad SHYNON. Last weekend I found a craigslist ad for a hudson sprayer, the price seemed fair and gas prices are down so down the road we went. I have had the literature for this for 2 years figuring I would never find one but here she is. Sorry I couldn't rotate the 2nd picture, last one is a pic of it from some literaure.

8 pointsAt 4 am when my wife let the pup out, I knew the weather prognosticators dropped the ball yet again! At 730 am I was spinning all 4 coopers at warp speed to craw to the main road! When I got home it was horse time! 24 1/2 inches, 3 driveways and 5 hours led to a bottle of home made wine and 4 ipa's! And satisfaction of a job well done! Thank God it was light and fluffy or the story may be quite different. After hours and hours, the belts were quite noisy! Face and horse same color....need a cab!
-
8 pointsWell I lucked out... The blower performed wonderfully. I did mine and the neighbors. Even waited to the end of the storm. Thought I may have pushed the limits a bit to far but never got stuck and never clogged the blower! Wheel Horse Power!! Also my new mod to the blower worked wonderfully. Anyone care to guess what mod I may have done from the pictures. I will be making a post on the shortly. Also cant recommend a cab enough, specially in these conditions. I would not sell it for a million dollars. Dry, warm. and having fun. Snow was as high as the hood in most spots

7 pointsInstalled the snow blade we picked up from Squonk yesterday. Had a chance to get some snow on it and then ran out of gas. We didn't have any non-ethanol gas ready to go in a can so we had to push her back into the barn. It was fun for a short time. We didn't get the storm so luckily we didn't need to push any snow. We'll clean it up and paint it in the spring.
-
7 pointsI picked this blower up from a fellow Red Square member last summer and not only is the 315-8 walking the dog with this thing.....I'm love'n it . Getting the mailboxes cleared out - D-way is done

6 pointsOK, Had a nice surprise. left the tranny in the truck...ready to go to a friends heated garage and decided to turn it around to face the sun for a few hours.......GOT WARM Enough to FREE THE TRANNY UP. The only liquid in the tranny was H2O, so, after draining ...filled half full with wd40. I figured that would loosen any leftover goo and rust. I spun the input and it got better and better, now it is pretty smooth and goes into the gears nicely. I GUESS I WAS VERY LUCKY!! I will keep turning it and slushing it around for a couple days then re drain it. I am planning on filling with 90weight gear lube....sound correct? ALSO is the 1/8 " pt plug on the side of the case a level indictor so you do not overfill??? As you can see its almost all apart......One nice thing is almost every piece is small enough to go into my friends blast cabinet!!! Makes for easy prep!!! On My way!!

6 pointsThis is what I'm dealing with now. 20 plus inches. I usually plow 6 to 10 inches at a time. But the bulk of this dumped on us Friday night into Saturday. My only shortcoming with this storm was a lack of weight. I have all four tires filled plus 110 lbs of weight. In the last 2 pics, there is nowhere to push the snow except foward due to the way my driveway is cut into the hill. I had my son (he is about 180 lbs) stand on the sleeve hitch and my 520 pushed like a freight train! My son and wife could hardly believe the snow we were pushing.

6 pointsA balmy 50 in the cab! I always find it funny, after a big storm rolls thru the next day it's blue skies. Like it sucked all the clouds away. I haven't seen blue in weeks.

6 pointsMy '89 520 Hydro didn't even blink when it saw this 7' drift about 2 hours ago. Yours definitely has a problem. Check keys in the hubs and the hydro pump pulley.

5 pointsHello All, First post to the forum. Great forum! Though this might interest/help out someone else: I got a atv plow for free and was able to fit it to my 516-H as a quick attachment. I cut off the existing bracket on the plow and cut a few pieces of flat steel and fitted a rod on the top that will connect to the quick attach where the deck hangs. I wired a 3-way momentary switch to the plow, put some rubber chains on and I was in business. Still need some work to finish it up (Grind off all sharp edges and some black paint), but was in a rush to get it finished before the big storm. Handled a foot of snow pretty well! Here are some pics:

5 pointsYou definitely need weights and chains with a blower....a sno-chucker is way to much weight out front. Ag tires are the worse tires for snow duty so its no surprise they didn't work. Get yourself weights/chains and some good turf tires. Mike............
-
5 pointsAt 50 seconds we see the effects of the rock and rye break, and at 1:25 we see he's clearly had enough!!
-
5 pointsFunny, we get the bad rap of all that Canadian snow. Go figure.. I am sure we are not out of the woods yet however. Cleat

5 pointsI cut the shaft at the welds and with a little grinding, a big hammer and punch I was able to remove the parts from the shaft. I found a piece of rod in my metal barrel. A little wire brushing, drilling, and welding and I have a new steering shaft. Made a new brake shaft while I was in the parts making mode. The original shaft was not salvageable.
-
5 pointsWell, the 520 was trying to kick the door down, so I got it opened for him. OK, how do we attack that ?? WOT, and hang on. And 15 minutes later....We done.
-
5 pointsStaunton Va on my 50th anniversary 520H with new to me 2 stage I just recently rebuilt...way better than the single stage tall chute I had been using the last 16 years.
-
4 pointsOK guys,,,,,total was about 16 inches in Northern Virginia.....I believe my 1-857,,,worked to the limit.....3 speed in 2nd did great....3rd was great with a solid start....4 driveways....took about an hour each,,,,,,,My neighbor told me he went to Lowes and looking for a tractor like mine.....Couildnt find one....came back to my house and wants to know where they are sold....When i explained it was 50 years old.....he almost feel over............. Next year i want to fill the tires.....I would love to see someone fill a set at the BIG SHOW.......the engine never slowed down...just the deep snow and spinning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Squonk,,,you out there??? this might require pie,,,,,,No grape ..........But 2 very deep Apple will be arriving in a chilly cooler....
-
4 pointsYeah that's my problem to, no snow to plow or blow. I took the plow tractor out yesterday to run down to the mailbox just to run it for awhile. On the way back, I dropped the plow, and because of the way I have it set up, you could barely tell that it did anything at all. This next week it will be in the upper 30's and by next weekend the 40's. Who'd believe this is the last week of January in Central N.Y. Hope all of you that did get all that snow make out okay. I wouldn't have wanted that much.

4 pointsThese are the pictures from the brochure i have being pulled by an 854
-
4 pointsThe weights and chains are what gave you traction....not those ag's. Mike.......... PS....I love that action pic with snow going 50' in the air!!
-
4 pointsHere's mine. I have a dozer blade for the 10 Automatic (I bought it for parts, but it turned out to be too nice to part out), but it's not at my house-wish it was! We're digging out from the first big snow we've had in a while! The 314 had been setting for quite a while when I got it and needed a little tlc. Only has 300 hours on it, I use it and the 160 a lot.
-
4 pointsI passed on plow that was offered to me on here. If another 5xi plow shows up I'm buying it this time! Don't care if it's a 4 hour ride. Using my brothers Montgomery ward walk behind sucked!
-
4 pointsGet the TPCatalog. All kinds of compressor and plumbing tips. Put a riser on your air line drop and that will help with the moisture. It's all in the book. If you redo air lines, DO NOT USE PLASTIC!! The metal lines will help cool the air and reduce moisture.
-
4 pointsman you guys got hammered,up here in Ontario not a flake,i havnt even used my throwers this year, had to get my bobcat out once because of wet slush,we seem to miss a lot of storms nowadays,a few years ago we used to get several storms with at least 12 inches or more,i had to buy a thrower for the horse because the 48 plow coulnt get through a lot of the storms,it would take too long and wat to hard on the tractor slamming huge piles hundreds and hundreds of times per snow fall, its strange how things change

4 pointsIf that works, I'm ok with it! I'm always ok with not having to deal with the snow.
-
4 pointsI can tell you from experience that a hydro 520H will push snow, dirt and gravel with any IH Cub Cadet - gear or hydro. The design is sound. Unless something is out of adjustment, wore out or broken, you'll loose traction every time. I cleared my street with my 520H this snowy weekend 3 times and will likely do it again this morning too. There's so much snow that I'm having to ram the snow mounds to push them out of the way. But snow is a walk in the park. The test of a hydro is moldboard plowing and my 520H handles it with ease.
-
4 pointsGood to know your Electro 12 got is life back from my rebuild of the Sundstrand. These old dawgs can do more than expected, even 45 years beyond. Now, why is it that you guys in Jersey get all the snow-pushin' fun. I am just off the edge of Lake Erie...about 40 miles inland, where we typically are in the 'snow belt' for the lake effect snow. Not this year though. We now have 4 to 6" on the ground and have had no more than 1 foot TOTAL accumu this year.
-
4 pointsParts are all ordered. Got the tie rod end to replace the one that broke and a spare for both the axle end and the lower assembly end. Will not get bit on that again. And I'm going to have spare belts on hand for everything as this is so frustrating. I've owned this setup 7 years and the blower has never given me a single issue. I just replaced the drive chain and found the idler bearings were whooped too. Those are also ordered. It's not going to help me any this storm, but It will hopefully be whole and in A1 condition for the next one.
