Thought we should start a post as this should get a lot of conversation. Just got my new Lawn & Garden Tractor Magazine. Even though I`ve seen them in person, there are some great pictures of the custom " cars" Wallfish built. Good job on the "cars" John, and congratulations for making the magazine. And good article Kate. You both make Red Square proud...

I had an Uncle who made a career in the Navy. And He loved his hooch. God Bless him. And I thank him for his service.

Wow.. that's about 1 gallon of water and 200 gallon of alcohol per day per man. That had to be one boat load of drunken smelly sailors. .

Here are some photos I took of John's "car" horse during the 2015 Big Show. It was a hit with me and everyone who stopped and looked at it. A real combo of Wheel Horse parts and inqenuity!

I seen this and had to pass it on.. The U. S. S.. Constitution (Old Ironsides), as a combat vessel, carried 48,600 gallons of fresh water for her crew of 475 officers and men. This was sufficient to last six months of sustained operations at sea. She carried no evaporators (i.e. fresh water distillers). However, let it be noted that according to her ship's log, "On July 27, 1798, the U.S.S. Constitution sailed from Boston with a full complement of 475 officers and men, 48,600 gallons of fresh water, 7,400 cannon shot, 11,600 pounds of black powder and79,400 gallons of rum ." Her mission: "To destroy and harass English shipping." Making Jamaica on 6 October, she took on 826 pounds of flour and68,300 gallons of rum. Then she headed for the Azores , arriving there 12 November. She provisioned with 550 pounds of beef and 64,300 gallons of Portuguese wine . On 18 November, she set sail for England. In the ensuing days she defeated five British men-of-war ships, and captured and scuttled 12 English merchant ships, salvaging only the rum aboard each. By 26 January, her powder and shot were exhausted. Nevertheless, although unarmed she made a night raid up the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. Her landing party captured a whisky distillery and transferred 40,000 gallons of single malt Scotch aboard by dawn. Then she headed home. The U. S. S. Constitution arrived in Boston on 20 February 1799, with no cannon shot, no food,no powder, no rum , no wine , no whisky , and 38,600 gallons of water . GO NAVY !

I'm liking these guys already!! NAVY...can't imagine why it is the best branch of the service. You know...you can work up a thirst salvaging all that stuff. This really parallels my trip to the BIG SHOW. California would be proud of their water conservation practices.

Looks like it might be solar powered, that large flat panel is the solar collector and it drives a motor. I bet he could get an alternative fuel tax credit for that!

Thanks guys! Kate (tractorchick here on RS) was nice enough to do an article on these since she saw them at the big show. Nice to get a RedSquare plug in there too. Karen (kthack657 here on RS) also did a nice article in the WHCC newsletter on them. Billy Albright, WHCC president, put a sign on the first one after he bought it which read " El Presidentes Car ". Then he drove it in the parade.

I've finished most of the painting. Mounted an aftermarket seat. I am still waiting for the wheels to come back from the powder coat shop, but I do have the tires ready to mount. I had to cut off the front 6" of the belt guard, and make a bracket to support the front of it where is was supported by the engine. I'll get a picture of that tomorrow.

Just make sure you dress for the weather Lane...you never know about Minnesota weather this time of the year because Almost anything goes as far as weather. I'm not planning doing much this year as far as shows go, but I might be at this one also along with SHYNON and Prondzy..

I think Wheel Horses offer more function, better bang for the buck, best dependability, simplest ease of service and the most readily available source of parts and attachments than any other brand! Period! I think that overall, everything considered, Wheel Horses are the best bargain for garden tractors available! You'll easily notice I don't have just Wheel Horses either, and I'm not saying they are the best GT and certainly not the only good garden tractor but overall I do think they are the best value. They were marketed as a tractor with many attachments that would get you through all seasons and while then it would have been price prohibitive, today's pricing says we might be able to have some dedicated task machines. We can't be expected every snow storm to use the blower and then swap for a blade for final cleanup! So take that idea a bit further and why should we take off mower deck and swap for a snow blower anyway. That takes a few minutes and really isn't fun or accomplishing anything! And what if one tractor is attached to a cart that has top soil in it and you need to haul something? Got to have another tractor and cart! And what if you have a LOT of dirt to move? Or a big hole to dig? Can't be swapping FELs and backhoes! What if you are trying to provide quality food for your family with an organic garden? Might as well ride while you till! And on and on it goes! It just makes good sense to have more than several! OK, I got a little excited there. Guys! Where's the next meeting?

This is a inherent problem. I can't remember the time frame but a service bulletin came out on it. They also came out with a little kit you that basically covers the throttle and choke cable. I was told by a dealer that it really did not work. Best thing I found to do was take grease and keep the ends covered with it and cut a piece of rubber inter tube or something similar and put over the ends. Also before putting the grease on spray WD 40 down each cable to help displace any water. Then during mowing season wipe off so it does not at track dirt. Bad design having cable ends sticking straight up.

Yep gotta love the 753's with duals, head lights and everything else you can throw on one! Here is my custom dually 753! Dual wheels, dual mufflers, dual hitches, HL5 head lights, 8 ball shifter, 1961 footrests, seat back rest, 60 lb front weight, factory mint seat cushion and I just added the one of a kind wind up key on the back this year! This is a high revving, romping machine!

I've just heard this morning that the Le Sueur show that some of our members have attended for several years is going to host the MN Cockshutt collectors which I'm guessing is a small group because they also want to do a shared main feature of Wheel Horse and other brands of GT feature next year. Show dates are Aug 26-28, 2016. We are getting first crack at promotion since we've had a Wheel Horse presence at this show for a while now. Our group, the North Central Wheel Horse Events Club (NCWHEC) has been going to this show since 2008. We were initially added to the show in 2008 as a feature and almost not invited back due to some miscommunication and misunderstandings about expectations and show operation. This show does not allow a general swap meet at the summer show. They hold a separate annual swap meet in the spring with about 1500 vendors that take up the entire showgrounds and even a lot of area used for parking during the summer show. However, when you're the feature, vendors who have non-swap items are allowed to have booths... such as decals, new reproduction parts, other novelties and memorabilia type stuff. Just no used part swap meet type stuff. Being the shared feature, there will also be use of half of a 60x130 feature building for anyone who might want to set up there with displays that they want to keep out of any potential weather. Anyway, I'm posting this out here nice and early to see if anyone has an interest in coming out the Minnesota way in 2016. Lots of time to work out details and questions. Just wanted to throw this up nice and early to avoid some conflicts with other shows that are usually around that time. I know we got Lane a pretty good turnout a couple years ago when he asked for representation at an IL show... I'm hoping that with enough advance notice and planning we can really get a great turnout.

Karl, This was a subject that was on my mind to speak to you about but we didn't get enough time together. Years ago at the show we tried to get teams to put back together a model 656 and see what team could do it the quickest, sort of like at the county fair were a group of guys rebuild a model T in 10 minutes. Well what happened was nobody wanted to attempt this project at the show. I had a model 656 taken apart (except the engine and transmission) with the parts laid out. What ended up happening was Ed Mayhew and I put the tractor back together with taking challenges from the crowd as to just how fast we could do it (and a whole lot of heckling too). Times of 1/2 hour to 45 minutes were figured but it did take us only 18 minutes (tractor running and no power tools). AT the Florida Flywheels Show I attempted to build a pulling tractor from parts found in the flea market and enter the tractor in the pull ........... I got close but the cost was too high and this with no hi performance parts. I ended up borrowing weights and putting them on my 854 for the 1,000 pound class, with me on the 854 and borrowed weights we weighed in at 600 lbs BUT we still beat a John Deere in the class ! Fabrication takes a torch, a welder and a engineering mind with lots of time. Wild Bill
