When I first purchased my sons wheel horse I came to the forum for help. I got more than expected. As the greetings and help poured in I started looking at some of your profiles and noticed that most of you had several wheel horses. I remember thinking , what do they do with all of them? Why so many? Are these people nuts? Well I answered all of my own questions Saturday when I picked up my 3rd trailer load. I am absolutely hooked and find myself looking in every yard I drive past. When I am gone during the week I look through every states craigslist for tractors and accessories. This is by far the most intense hobby I have been involved with. I know everybody loves pics so here are the new horses. 656-877-1277-Commando8. They all need love but they all do run and operate. I absolutely understand you guys now. Between the tractors and this forum this is really an awesome hobby! I will get more pics and info posted when I can spend some time with them.

A massive thank you to everybody that paid attention to my posts about the theft of our little tractor and kept eyes open for her. After over three months the tractor is now back at home and we have two happy children and a very smiley me. I had a phone call from the Police today to say my horse had been returned to the house she was last spotted at. Strangely it was found by the same man that had last been seen moving it onto the driveway! He "apparently" found it dumped in a place I had searched previously, a local park. Anyhow I'm just overjoyed to have her home and I wish to express my thanks for all the kind words and thoughts that have been sent my way.

I think some other reasons we have so many is because we just like tinkering around on them. They were well built when new, and fairly easy to get them going again after many years of neglect by previous owners that didn't care about their longevity. It's fun to find horses that just need some love and attention and they perk right up again. Having some for specific jobs, and others that are just nice tractors for show, and others for work.

I picked this up over the summer but just now am getting a chance to post it up. I always wanted a 520, found it on CL and drove 4 hours to get it. Got a great deal on it, at least I think I did. Got it home, serviced it up and has been great since. The deck, unfortunately, was toast and the tires are all rotten but I am getting ready to replace them, put a nice seat cover on the nasty seat. Steering is nice and tight, much easier than my 416 or my Workhorse. Only has 352 hours on the working meter. Hopefully I will be repainting it and putting new decals on it over spring.

I started with 4 (my Dad's)...found this place and got up to 8. I did not have enough room at that point so now I am down to 5 horses. What I do have room for is transmissions...Wheel Horse transmissions of course. Talk about fun to tinker with. I now have a couple of good spares and just had 3 more dropped off yesterday. It is going to be a great spring. 2 RJ and 1 Suburban tranny Need to put this one together yet. Some of the herd waiting for snow.

We try to warn newcomers. We tell them what will happen. We all know what will happen, but still there is little we can do. Later we try to help them with new problems... We do what we can...

I have 3 tractors for one simple reason. I'm tired of swapping HEAVY implements out. It's time consuming and they're ball busters. So they're equipped wit a mower deck, mid mount grader and snow plow. I bought a crank up lift from Tractor Supply that you put the front tires in. So no more pulling the mower deck to get to the blades. Only problem I have now is keeping the gas tanks filled. I buy 15 gallons at a time and I have to do that 4 or 5 times a year. I should buy a 500 gallon tank and mount it next to my shed and have gas delivered. A friend of mine does that.

I just bought a what Im told is a very RARE Wheel Horse side mount Sickle Bar Mower that came off a C140 and putting it on one of my C160 so this is going to be fun.

I bought my first in May 2015. I now have 5 and a JD. I am out of room, or there would probably be more. I bought the first, found Red Square, and said to my wife "these guys all have at least 4 or 5 and some have way more. These guys are nuts". Luckily, she isn't the type to rub it in after I started buying them, LOL

I bought my first a Commando 8, it looked so lonely that it had to have a stable mate. So I found it a twin, I had a team of Horses now, Then I went to the Big Show in PA, and saw a model 854 I was born 8/54! Well right there is a good enough reason to have to buy one of them So now, I have the start of a herd. Over the summer I added onto the shed, and there's still some more room but that doesn't mean I'd have to fill it does it ?

Got the snow blower hooked up and used for the first time. Love it! Just like I remember it 20 years ago.

New to Red Square and new to wheel horse. Pictured is what I think is a D180 that my father-in-law acquired around 2008. He disassembled it to repair a crack and I have been slowing putting it back together. When the tractor came to me all the panel where sand blasted and bare except the fuel tank he painted and a few panels that I painted. I've spent several weekends painting and reassembling and I'm pretty sure I got every thing in the right place. All that is left is to finish the wiring, install new fuel hose and the seat and find some mufflers. I have one NOS muffler but I rather try find suitable subs or to fab up some mufflers than use an NOS one.

I bought a 604 after I took my daughter with me to the local power and steam show. We saw a restored wheel horse and my daughter and I liked it so much we went the next day for the 604. Next thing I know I have many, and always looking for more.

I see you caught the fever . Mine started in September and I can't seem to shack it , and from what I've herd there is no cure . I can't stop looking for them either . Keep them separated cause they breed like rabbits ! 1+1= ... Hope this helps. By the way nice score!

When I bought my first the man who sold it asked how many I had; my wife asked him if people actually collected them. I had no intention of starting a herd at the time, but after using the first one for a while I knew I needed another. Fifteen years later I have a dozen!

This is crazy all you grown men buying these horses like they were candy in a candy store.as for me I only have 5 .the crazy part is there is nothing like the enjoyment of taking a machine and totally restoring it to a thing of beauty .this is what I did to my c160 hydro. the wheel horse is a great and well built machine. I love to work on something that will give me back what I put into it. Love my c160 ,its a beast. And this is a crazy hobby to have. So I'm crazy like a fox. my wife posted this pic on fb. First plow with his restored WHEEL HORSE !! Picked up a really nice 77 b80 with deck and plow last month, and I will restore it to be a beauty also.

All I can add is I just love these old tractors. What else is there to say.

Worst part of my weekend was having an hour to play with the new hoses before I got ready to hit the road and discovering I didn't have a drop of gas! My wife surprisingly had nothing to say about that.She just laughed

all stories are true. I am addicted myself. but its all good. that is some herd in that trailer. a great way to pass the time and have help with chores. Glenn

Hi I use to own a small engine repair business and of all the machines I worked on in the 15 yrs in business the Wheel Horse units were my all time favorites to repair and test drive. Iv owned several over the years but now that Im retired Iv bought 8 of them in different sizes just this past summer alone... My favorites are the four 16 HP tractors and a couple 8 HP. Im picking up a C140 this coming weekend and plan on buying more to use on my mini farm. I'm not into restoration to make them look show room but rather using them without having to change out all the implements I have for them. Jim

Last fall at a local antique/steam show, a fellow picked up one of my cards. During our conversation, he asked, "do you work on Wheel Horses"? My comment was, "I have 11 of them....I work on them all the time"! Nice find on your trailer.

It's certainly an addiciton, disease, or mental illness or something. I've told this on the forum before, but I grew up on as my dad always owned them. I have one I've used for 20 years, went searching for a good mower deck as mine was rusted out, ended buying a whole tractor to get a good deck, got the extra tractor running and caught the bug, ended with 5 of them in less than a year. Still on the hunt for good deals too!

I've sold 3, with no regrets...but I still think of them. Two 502s and a Raider with a broken rod (that I saved from the scrap yard). All went to good homes. Joebob got the one that meant the most...an original 502 that was my Dad's. He was after me for a couple of years to get it, and I was going to will it to him. Joe is an excellent body/fender guy, and I started thinking it would be nicer to see it restored and going to shows, then seeing it in my shed. Here are a couple of before and after pictures...how can you regret this??

It is a Disease that only gets better with more Wheel Horses.

I have had many hobbies in my life But after 15 + years of working G/Tractors I find my self enjoying my self every time I pick up a wrench. This one stuck with me thru the years. Enjoy the ride Gary B....

This is a great thread! I've only ever sold one and I regret it now. It was a '68 Commando 8. I bought it from my uncle in 1993. He bought it from second owner, who bought it as a trade-in from local dealer in 1973, which was traded in by MY OWN DAD who purchased it new in 1968! YIPES! I didn't know it was my dad's old tractor until just last fall. I overhauled it and sold to my neighbor in less than a year, and bought my '77 B-80. My neighbor sold it many years ago, doesn't remember who to he says. If I'd only had known at the time that it was the same tractor, it would have been a great restoration project now!

Well I installed a new electric fuel pump. I bought one that people had recommended in another thread. I hooked up the positive side to the coil and just grounded the negative side. I did bypass the old pump like most of you recommended. I switched the key to on and it was great to see the fuel filter fill up!! Well I fired up the tractor and damn, it would not start. I cranked and cranked. Nothing. Then I discovered that in the excitement of watching the fuel filter fill with fuel, I forgot to use the choke and turn the throttle up. Raised both levers to the top and she fired right up!! Awesome!! Now the C-175 is ready for snow!! Thanks guys for all the help! Butch S. Jersey

My problem is I never sell anything. I`m kind of a hoarder. I probably wouldn`t be able to move if a couple of women hadn`t cleaned me out over the years.

Seem that we all get excited and forget the basics some times, I once put a freshly rebuilt small block Chrvy engine my Street Rod and was so eager to hear it run that I failed to tighten the oil pressure gauge line. It fired right up and oiled down everything in sight. Took a couple of days just cleaning the engine compartment, never did get the oil stains off the roof rafters in the shop!

Can't say much about your Gramp's old Horse but, love those 60's Stallions. Grandson just wants to ride Horses.

My mother is reading a book called Post Mortem which is a compilation of several short horror/mystery stories. She recently sent me an email about one of the stories called Getting Back by P.W. Sinclair which mentions a . from Mom's email; "Getting Back" by P.W. Sinclair. It is at top of page #221. It reads,........... In the corner were two Lawn Boy push mowers, a Wheel Horse garden tractor, and a rack of grass shears and hedge clippers................ It's a description of a garage or shed I think. I'm going to have to borrow the book and read it now!

If you dig deep enough on this site you can find pretty much anything you need. I found a thread from Feb. 9, 2013 "Voltmeter Problem", rmaynard posted an Awesome wiring diagram to convert an Amp Gauge to a Voltmeter. I like the idea of seeing my voltage "Live". However, I'm not sure I want to change from "Original"? The interesting part is that at times (very few) the Amp Gauge will lean toward Pos. and have minimal movement. Danny

Just assuming you have a 1257? Mine is becoming my favorite but I just picked up the 1277 and I am looking forward to the hydro lift. Never had it before and think the 1277 is gonna be my favorite before long.

I use the same pump. It draws about 5 amps so I would go with a 10 amper. The pumps are pulse pumps. They rattle a little but aren't too noisy.

Ditto...actually the only I've ever sold... been gone a couple years now, and still haven't recovered. Oops...I stand corrected. this 1267, is the one other I've turned loose... to my brother Squonk.

I was considering thinning out the herd a little, but now I may just continue hording them all!

We've all done stuff like that, over look the obvious. I watched an old episode of Graveyard Carz the other day and they forgot to put gas in a 440 Challenger for the initial test drive and they ran out. LOL!
