Ready for the party and nowhere to go. Maybe i should consider putting in AC in the cabs and putting the decks on. I have got places in my yard that are still very green. I should not talk to loud here. End up causing a blizzard next week.

I finally picked up a 2 stage blower after looking on craigslist for a while now. Its amazingly powerful, large and in good condition. I got it for $400, good deal right? After i put the beast on i parked it next to my 212-6 with the 36'' blower. The 44'' 2 stage is HUGE next to my 212. Now i just need some snow!

The L107 my father bought in 1967 has always been my favorite horse. She has been in continual use since then. She is my chore tractor hauls stuff year round including coal in the winter (see avatar). Now I have a new reason to love her. Earlier this week I ruptured my right Achilles tendon so after some surgery next week I will be in a series of casts for 3 months. She is now how I get around outside the house, down to the mail box out to the shop etc. It is easy to swing a cast over a ranger to get on, not so easy on the bigger horses, and once you are on you do not need your right foot for anything.

Hey guys....all this talk about getting our tractors and snowchuckers ready for winter and no one has mentioned their generators. You don't want to discover that your alternative power source is "busted" when the lights go out and its "0" degrees outside. Ran mine about 2 months ago just to exercise it, and this morning the power went out so although I don't really need it I fired up the genny (starts instantly!) and have my house all powered up. Don't just fire up your generator, power up something to exercise the generator head....just because the motor runs doesn't mean the generator head is putting out. By the way....I'm making this post while on generator power !! Keeping your generator in top shape ensures you will be able to "cruise" Red Square while the rest of your neighborhood is in the dark ! The "M"?? My guess is the foundry didn't use the letter " I " for Sept. since it could be confused with a number 1.

I agree with you. Last month I took mine (the exact same model as yours) out and replaced all of the fuel with fresh gas + Stabil. Quick oil change with synthetic, powered it up. I didn't put a load on it though, but wanted to be sure that the battery was fully charged (even though it starts with 1 pull) and the fuel was fresh in the system. It's always run completely out of gas and stored in a shed which I bought just for the generator which houses the gen and 2 6-gallon cans of gas, just in case! I have it hooked up to the house as well, and as long as we don't try to run the dryer, bake cookies and vacuum, it has no problem keeping us warm, running water and TV

This topic came up in a recent discussion on proper battery maintenance and storage techniques. I usually keep 3 or 4 batteries on float charge thru the winter and have performed a simple modification on $5 Harbor Freight float charger to allow it to peform as it should. I purchased several chargers two or three years back and found each of the chargers put out a different voltage. The range varied from 12.8 to 13.4 volts. A float voltage of 12.8 is too low and 13.4 is just a tad too high, If you are using this item to float charge your batteries, please take the time to measure the DC voltage between the red and black charger clips WITHOUT THE CHARGER CONNECTED TO A BATTERY. Any voltage significantly outside a 13.0 to 13.3 range could be slowly compromising your battery. I will post pics on a simple modification which will allow setting of a precise 13.2 volt output needed to properly maintain a wet lead acid battery thru winter storage. Stay tuned as my camera memory card appears to have issues of its own.

I broke quite a few last night, but today its 60 deg outside, no time for breaking lights when there is tractors that need some seat time.......

Probably done like 50 strands already. Like Lays potato chips... I bet you can't smash just one. Fun is...cranking up the volume... really freaks the cat out.

My Genny is in the back shop. To use it I need to unhook the blade from Skonk and attach the genny. If I'm going to "Cruise RS on genny power I might as well power it with a WH! If I had a self powered unit, Instead of gas and Sta-bil I'd have some of that 4 Cycle Tru-Fuel in the tank. The stuff is amazing. I would fill the tank with regular fuel if I needed it to run a while but for storage it's Tru Fuel for me. I've seen Stabil crystalize in fuel bowls before.

Spray WD-40 or pump some motor oil along the edge of the gasket, or any suspected leak points, with the engine at idle. You may have to remove some covers to do this. If the gasket is bad, the oil will get sucked in causing a change of speed or sound and possibly exhaust smoke. Be aware that WD-40 is flammable. Use only Onan gaskets for the intake, I have had others fail.

Can do Jack! The first step is to explain the capacity and intended use of a "float" charger or maintainer. Due to a very low current rating on all the components within the product, FLOAT / MAINTAINER CHARGERS ARE NOT INTENDED TO CHARGE A BATTERY. Attempting to charge a depleted or damaged battery with a floater may damage the floater. The output current from a float / maintainer is a fraction of an amp - usually 1/2 amp maximum. Charging several batteries simultaneously off a single float/ maintainer is not advisable as if any one battery in your group is defective or compromised, the whole group will not charge. The HF floater has a simple over-current circuit which shuts the floater off if more than 1/2 amp is pushed thru the battery. There may be floater / maintainer devices out there with several charging ports within one case. I'm thinking these are devices with multiple independent floater circuits all mounted in the same case.

Yeah, the blower was the main reason I bought it. Decided it wouldn't be horrible to have a spare to my 522XI. I think I stole it, though it was in a bit rougher shape than the pictures showed. he left it outside and it is starting to rust. Maybe I'll paint it red. $1700 for the GT22, blower, weights and chains. Barely got all that in the trailer. My electric tilt and winch worked great though, pulled the tractor right up in there, then lowered the trailer. Takes 60 seconds, but it's way less scary.

It took close to an hour to drain ~2 gallons of fuel out of my Harbor Freight 3000 watt through the 3/16" petcock. But even with years-old ethanol gas it still starts in 1-2 pulls (2 only because I usually forget to turn the choke on the first time :-). Maybe generators should also be included in "Winter Team" pictures!

Victory!!! I ran out of steam but got where I wanted to be. The subframe is hanging on the midmount (it fits like a glove) and is supported at the rear axles now temporarily with floor jacks for final fitment and adjustment of the cross tube to make sure my diagonal braces will line up with their respective holes without me having to drill new ones. I found that with everything where it is in the photos I am within 1/4" or less for all critical dimensions and spacing measurements that I got from doc724 and other sources. I'll triple check everything for proper fit and clearance and then get to tacking the rest of it together and final welding. In the photos below the cross tube and the upright brackets with the risers are not welded up. They are just sitting there so I could line up the diagonal braces. I'm saving that for another fabrication session when I'm not as tired and a bit more sharp. Here are the photos, I'm going to sleep!!! Way too tired to go on....

I will look for the casting dates and check the shifting shafts too. Andrew's Lawn Ranger trans (5053)is also slated for a rebuild do to axle shaft seals that started leaking lube oil all over his new powder coated rims. Sometime tomorrow, I'll try to take some pics too if you don't mind the lower quality pics..(have a new camera on my x-mas wish list) until tomorrow
