Got the crew ready this morning, 3 wheel horses, 1 Massey, let the white stuff fall !

Got the new decals on yesterday, the weather is unreal here in Mid Mo.

This topic came up in a recent discussion on proper battery maintenance and storage techniques. I usually keep 3 or 4 batteries on float charge thru the winter and have performed a simple modification on $5 Harbor Freight float charger to allow it to peform as it should. I purchased several chargers two or three years back and found each of the chargers put out a different voltage. The range varied from 12.8 to 13.4 volts. A float voltage of 12.8 is too low and 13.4 is just a tad too high, If you are using this item to float charge your batteries, please take the time to measure the DC voltage between the red and black charger clips WITHOUT THE CHARGER CONNECTED TO A BATTERY. Any voltage significantly outside a 13.0 to 13.3 range could be slowly compromising your battery. I will post pics on a simple modification which will allow setting of a precise 13.2 volt output needed to properly maintain a wet lead acid battery thru winter storage. Stay tuned as my camera memory card appears to have issues of its own.

When they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words." This is the picture they are talking about. Look at the wood framed boxcars, the late 30's, early 40's vehicles...that locomotive is a 2-8-2 Mikado!! Who's that kid with no socks?? This could be the train yard in Bensenville, Illinois...I've done a ton of train watching there through the years. edited years of vehicles per JimD below.

1964 B-10 Early Model

I know that everyone is wondering about Winter for this season. My area is predicted to get between 25" to 50" of snow. But the weather report is saying 70+ degrees on this coming Monday, December 14. It got me thinking about my dogs noses. Both dogs were/are Alaskan Malamutes and like some Northern Breeds, their noses turn pink during colder months. Last Winter was colder than I have experienced during my time in Maryland (I've experienced much colder temps in Illinois!) and had a decent amount of snow. Oke's nose had turned turned pink by October 21 last year. Juno's nose is just starting to turn this week. It might be a milder Winter! Oke' Juno

Got the deck assembled. Now I have to wait for grass. After all it's only December. NOS deck shell, NOS pulleys, NOS gears, new bearings, new seals, new belts, NOS blades, new wheels, some brass bushings, Terry's decals, and stainless hardware. Can't wait to mow with it in the spring. Here's what I started with.

That thingy in the last picture might be a spring mount for a mid mount idler. Almost looks like it used to be a Kohler engine lifting point.

What is this rod and what is it for? Goes through the bottom of the frame side to side, but I see no purpose for it???

Yep, that's the site alright. Use this http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/belts/toro_belts.asp to lookup your factory belt dimensions and then find a belt on vbelts for less that is a close match. A lot of OEM belts claim to spec out in between 2 industrial belt sizes. However, I have found that going up or down to the nearest generic belt size works fine. All my applications has plenty of idler/tensioner take-up to account for any minor differences in belt size.

I pretty much only use the old gear driven decks to mow my yard and i love them my very first wheel horse was a 857 with 36" deck and i mowed my yard with it for years before actually getting it to the horse hobby now i look back and can't believe it mowed as good as it did considering the deck was completely worn out and sounded something horrible but i didn't know any better.

Yep. I'd go with the dogs nose weather forecast over the meteorologists as more scientific every time. I hear a dogs sense of smell is so keen they can help find medical problems in humans. They are amazing creatures. You can't get a more true love than a dog has for its owner. No wonder dogs are mans best friends.

International Harvester IH-50 Dupont/Nason code 7410 This is the darker/original IH color. Almost perfect match to Regal Red. $266 in that can. Sprays beautiful though. Laid over black Epoxy primer.

I just picked up the last of the steel to fabricate the subframe. 3/16" wall make for a HEAVY subframe. I weighed all the parts and maybe I could have gone with 1/8" wall. Oh well. Heavy means heavy duty right? The subframe that fastens to the midmount and the rear axles weighs in at 60 pounds. Ay-Chihuahua!!! After the kids go to sleep tonight, its shop time. I really want to get this thing hanging on the tractor tonight.

would be good for parts tho if he would come down some or to make a too cool for school rat rod???

The paint looks great! Now an important question, it has been a lot of years since I was in automotive paint. Is it safe to use a cartridge respirator with these paints? A supplied air breathing device used to be required since the cartridges were not effective with epoxies. We like our lungs and I don't want anyone to ruin them with poor protection. Bad lungs will interfere with our WH addictions. The paint does look great to repeat myself.

@nylyon can correct me if I am wrong and possibly elaborate more on becoming a supporter on this but there is a size limit on pics. When you become a supporter those blocks go away.
