8 pointsI got myself a plow for this coming winter season. It wasn't pretty so I decided to clean it up and paint it. Then I decided to Pimp it out with an electric actuator for angling the blade. Works pretty nice now but we'll see if it can stand up to the potential beating it might see. IMG_1441.3gp

8 pointsIf this is a daughter and dad project then daughter rules! The more input she has on the project the warmer your relationship and the memories of it will be. GO Teal!
-
8 pointsAnd here is a great picture of Dad...he used to knock the stuffing out of me when I was bad.

7 pointsI can hardly wait for spring. When the temperature gets below my age I don`t want to leave the house.

6 pointsIf I had a daughter and she wanted it teal.... Teal it would be. I think she will always remember how happy you made her for painting it her favorite color, and you will always remember the smile on her face. What are you waitin for?
-
6 pointsTeal is kind of a BLUISH green though. I say go for it. Sounds like she has her reasons and it will only make her like that little tractor more. It can always be changed again. I've seen pink and purple and yellow Horses on this site. I only wish my daughter had the same interest in my hobbies. Enjoy the time spent with your daughter and give her what she likes on this one.

5 pointsMy daughter and myself are going to restore a 1960 suburban 400. We are not gonna go crazy with NOS and 100% correct. Just a sharp looking cool tractor. I am going to document the process on the forums because I know that you guys will be very instrumental with the whole process. We are in the process of gathering things we know will be needed. First day in at the store checking paint colors and she drops a bomb on me. She wants it TEAL and white. So I am looking for thoughts and comments and maybe with more than just my opinion she can be swayed to stick with the classic colors. The reason for her decision is it is her favorite color and all her horse tack and cowgirl boots are teal and she said she wants matching horses.Thank

5 pointsFirst two day weekend I've had in a long time & decided to spend that extra day in the garage working on a few Horse's. First I serviced & finished putting the 310-8/Kwik Way FEL tractor together. I rebuilt the carb, changed the points, plug, condenser, air filter...changed the oil in the engine & trans. New drive belt, clutch spring, checked to make sure the hub & pulleys were snug. Hung a set of wheel weights on it & fastened a counterweight to the hitch. Still have a few things to do yet (easy steer conversion), but pretty much ready to go to work. Also brought in a clean C-85, but non running that I picked up last week for cheap. I neglected it & let it sit outside this past week out in the back yard where it was covered in snow from Saturdays snowfall. My Argo came in handy for dragging it around to the front of the house where I could get it in the garage & start dethawing Checked all the fluids, changed the battery, added some fresh gas & it fired right up. I think I'll put my weighted rear tires on it & use it this winter as my snow pusher.

5 pointsHere is another option...see what you think about this. These are already the right color, and they are collectible also. Panzer , and now everybody is happy.

5 pointsWhen I was a kid we all had STP decals and rear air shocks on our '64 Chevy 2 door hard top Impalas. That stuff must have helped a little as hard as we used to run those old 327's we didn't blow 'em up too often...

3 pointsThat does confirm my suspicion that teal may not look so great. My littlest girl wants pink and yellow. I will fight that battle another day.

3 pointsMy C-105 is in the same category with being a "Go To" tractor. I still need to replace the fuel line that the mice/squirrels got to this past Summer. Scott's/Tom's hitch provided a nice little perch to munch away! I couldn't figure out why there appeared to be a puddle under the tractor, and why it was out of fuel!

2 pointsThanks Ed I got the actuator from amazon, here is the link http://www.amazon.com/WINDYNATION-Actuator-Maximum-Mounting-Brackets/dp/B012EFMPRE/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1447244536&sr=8-9&keywords=linear+actuator+4+inch+stroke. Planning to control it with a momentary toggle switch similar to what did with the electric lift kit for manual tractors, amazon has let me down with that one though it was supposed to be here last Wednesday. The mounting turned out easier then I expected. I utilized the brackets that came with the actuator and only had to drill 1 new hole in the plow frame, which is the fixed end. The other end, the one that pivots, I utilized the existing hole on the top side of where the 1/2 rod of the original linkage used to attach. I used a 5/16 bolt with a series of washers and nuts to get it up high enough to clear when turned and used bronze washers on top and below the bracket to aid in the pivoting. Red the actuator is supposed to be able to withstand harsh conditions so I expect it to hold up fine in that regard. My concern is the fact that the actuator is whats going to hold the angle of the plow, I had to drop the lock pin. Its a nice feature because I now have infinite angle positioning instead of the 3 fixed positions but it started to creep into my head if there's potential of back-driving the actuator enough to break it? John it is pretty heavy duty for its size with over 300lb static force and I have a feeling with the way I mounted it utilizing the brackets it came with(which aren't heavy duty) that the brackets will fail before the actuator....hopefully at least Doug and everyone else I will take and post some close up photos of the actuator and mounting. I never seem to think of my forum thread making while im working so I never step back to take the photos that will help tell the story.
-
2 pointsReally nice rig Paul. Can we get a few more details on the actuator and the mounting?
-
2 pointsYou're OK Ron. I sometimes put a little Lucas Oil on the gears and bearings when I put one together. I do not think you would want to put in more then you did though. The gears actually throw the oil around to lube some of the stuff that is higher in the trans, so you do not want it too thick. Slammer is a lot farther south then we are...it gets cold up here.
-
2 pointsWow! You rattle canned the crap out of that! LOL I don't think it's too bad. Maybe find a "retro" looking teal??
-
2 pointsWhile I did a terrible job here, this will give you an idea. Maybe take a couple of more pictures save on your computer and open the picture up in Paint. I had to customize the Teal color. It's your horse...this is just an idea.
-
2 pointsAnd we all know that is exactly how this is gonna go. Daddy's girl gets what she wants. I just love the krusty look and if paint was a must original is my taste.
-
2 pointsI don't think its going to hurt anything but may not help either the trans gears just roll through the oil so theirs not much to them as long as their is good clean oil in it and full you should be good
-
2 pointsTeam all chained up and ready to go snuggled up by the furnace. Cleat
-
2 pointsIMHO, I wouldn't paint it at all...scrub it down with s.o.s. pads and oil it up. But totally up to you and your daughter. It's your guys Tractor...if you plan on restoring it and keeping it for a long time. I say paint it whatever colors you want.

2 pointshi guys, with the spindle corrected on the C100 and a few last minute touches the tractor was ready for delivery to RH. when i got there his wife before seeing the tractor commented "we have enough junk" she came out to watch it being offloaded and was impressed. she even said she could drive that tractor. RH was at work as we work different shifts these days. i wanted to surprise him. the next day day he came up to me at work just before the shift change. he was astounded that i was giving him the tractor. he loved it. getting the tractor in/out of my truck can get dicey.(i do not have a trailer) i would like to thank my special friend, real deal navy seal RB who always helps load/unload and is a big help around the garage. on the way back from RH's house we stopped at the american legion and had some cold ones. nice end to a good day. best regards mike in mass.
-
2 pointshello men, first, thank you to all who took the time to reply. i really appreciate it. i was almost ready to fire up the torch and bend the spindle to my liking. i really hate to hack up things though. finally, i scrounged thru my parts stash and found yet another set of spindles. i swapped out the right side spindle and BINGO! now it was the same angle as the left side. the level confirmed this. the wheel looked "right" to my eye. i breathed a big sigh of relief. best regards mike in mass.

2 pointsHello Hank. Brian"s last message to me was he was nearly finished and waiting on a bowl from one of the carbs. I"m not sure if Brian had to make any new parts but I do think he probably had to bore the body of the M14 carb and install an oversize throttle shaft bushing. This oversize bushing may be a part Brian has to make. I"m hoping the M14 carb is the same size as a M16 carb. I would like to install this freshly rebuilt carb on my 416-8 with the M16 engine.
