12 pointsPicking up a new horse today, so awesome with the duallies! Wife says that's enough tractors. Been getting into this for about a month and have 5 Horses already, very addicting, but awesome. If America built things like this today, we would be in better shape.

9 pointsMods if this isn't appropriate for this section feel free to move it. I wanted to give Glen Pettit a big thumbs up for recent purchase I made from him. I bought 6 wheel horse koozies from him so that I could pass a few out for Christmas presents, of course I ordered enough to keep one for myself. You all know beer will taste better drinking out of a wheel horse koozie. Anway, they are top notch product and he even through a couple freebies! Good guy to do business with.

7 pointsGosh by Golly . . . Thank you, It's all of us together that makes this Site-Hobby-Family so great, here on Red Square and at the Shows and at the get-togethers, sharing, problem solving, talking, informing and encouraging each other. I've gotten so much satisfaction from our Family here, so much more than I've given . . . Glen

7 pointsI believe this has come up before, and I bet Karl is going to say basically the same thing. We do get a lot of one time users, but the site is set up to let people lurk and see what this site is all about. I've seen women come on here to ask what something is worth and want to sell something because their husband passed away. I would like to think that they always get a fair shake from the people on this site. Those are the kind of things you would be tampering with by charging people to sell...do you want to charge people who want to trade or buy also...I don't think so. Do you want to charge to download manuals, pictures, videos??? I don't think that is what we are about. We pride ourselves on the people here who offer information and their time freely. There is a reason why we get a lot of people who come in here and look for a while before they join...not another site like this one on the net. The other issue is just this...KISS...Keep It Simple Stevasaurus.
-
7 pointsHadn't thought about that but now that you have my "attention", I suppose... If there are folks that only visit to sell and contribute nothing else, maybe that makes sense. At least they would pay something for the service before they left. However I remember very well not having 20 bucks, and honestly, that has happened more than once in my life, and too recently to be forgotten! Just wouldn't want anyone who really couldn't afford it to suffer anymore than they already are... Maybe that's a tad silly, and maybe more take advantage of this site than I suspect, if indeed that is taking advantage, not sure... On the other hand, I do think there should be some things that should trigger becoming a Supporter and perhaps that could/should be one of them. Maybe an entry level "Junior Supporter" for $10 or a donation of any amount. Honestly, this site is basically invaluable to a Wheel Horse devotee, but should we have a $100 Supporter level? $500 Supporter? $1000 Supporter? I think we could/would have a few of each! I can't afford to join the top levels so I'm not volunteering to become an advanced member, but honestly, I've gotten more than my money's worth and I'm not quite up for renewal yet! . It is too bad that someone might just offer something for sale and not hang around long enough to get a chance to experience the camaraderie, genuine good will laced knowledge this site offers everyday! I suppose it boils down to what the purpose of this site is and what it costs to achieve that. I think I have a clue about one side but I'm clueless about the other side. What does it cost? Are more funds needed? Could even more be done with more $$$? Don't know! But I can tell you one thing, this is a great site because of all the folks that contribute much more than just the money! Not just the forum, the Admin or the Moderators! Not just the Member's help! There's a lot more going on here! There's a synergy! Something special here that just works! I almost hesitate to change a thing! And to quote another great Supporter, "... these comments are my humble opinion only on this subject. "

6 pointsGot the team all assembled for the Winter. Plow went on the Orange one today. Just waiting on a set of chains coming to PA. from OH. via MI.

6 pointsMother in law took my wife and kids away for the week. It freed me up to get a few chores taken care of at home and upstate. Along with a few house repairs the Horses were changed over for winter duty. Oil changed, greased, tire chains and of course ye ole two stage blower installed. Now with a little luck we'll have time to head up this winter. Some of you are worse than women and babies. So here's the much sought after photos. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

6 pointsNow that I have folks attention on this subject. I think you should have to be a supporter to sell. Why? A 20 dollar bill is a cheap price to pay, helps support this great site and also makes it way easier on the seller to. Load pictures to your hearts content. Simplifies that picture loading ordeal. Nothing sells things like pictures. How many times over and over have folks had problems.. plenty. Also over the few years I have been here, people show up just to sell something,,,then,,,gone. Never to be heard from till they find something else to sell. When I am looking to buy,,desecriptions are ok, but I want pictures to. One picture is worth a thousand words. Not meaning to start a brawl here either, just voicing my thoughts on the simple ideas of using red square to sell things. Its a 2 way street and benfits seller, buyer and the website. And these comments are my humble opinion only on this subject.

6 pointsBoth good points Maybe a 30 day option for say, $5, and require it to sell something. Then at least you would get pictures, and if they are "one and done" and don't see the value in the forums, when the 30 days is up, the pictures go away, which is fine, since the item either sold or no one was interested. Anyone that owns a WH should seriously consider a regular support account though, it will pay for itself in no time.
-
6 pointsWhile agree with some of your thoughts, it would prevent a TON of 'one and done' sellers from which many people get really good deals...

5 pointsI moved this to the general area. All great points, here's my take on the subject. This is actually take III for my reply. Take I and II were too long, so long story short.... I think it's important to allow access to the forum resources for those who just want to fix their machine, or find that part that broke, or maybe sell the machine that late uncle Roberto had. These people should be able to come here and have their one time shop to get what they need. Many tend to stick around, and that's great too however there are limits to how much you get for free. One of those limits is the number of pictures you can upload. The storage is not unlimited, and allowing unlimited uploads by members puts a greater burden on the supporters. If someone is very into the hobby and the use of this site, supporting will benefit them as well as us by keeping things in balance.

5 pointsIts a hard call to make it does kinda stink seeing stuff for sale with out pics or someone join just to put something up for sale but i'm sure some members have benefited from some of these sales. Their is also a chance you may scare people away buy charging money for forum classifieds use. i know i used the forum for along time before becoming a supporter and who knows i may fall on hard times and might not be able to pay for supporter membership in the future.

4 pointsOnce I found this site and realized what I could glean from so many other members experiences, I couldn't wait to join and become a supporter. I believe in just the short while I've been here, I've more than got my fee's worth. This forum and people are priceless. I just hope one day as I learn more and more, I too can also pass on the knowledge I've learned.

4 pointsAt Scott's meet and greet, I told my girls they could pick out a dollar's worth of stickers and tattoos. He insisted they were free and threw in some wheelhorse pencils too, just to keep the kids interested in the hobby! We chatted for a few minutes about what it means to involve children in good hobbies and to invest in their future, that was more valuable than a couple bucks worth of kid stuff for sure!

4 pointsWhen I first joined it took me a few days to get familiar with the site and get comfortable talking to the members. Then it was clear to me that I had already gotten my $20 worth so I joined up and now I won't shut up........... I would also like Red Square hats to be available for supporters only to purchase....... Just a thought. None of us wants the forum to fall on hard times for any reason........ Hey Glenn............. Got any wenches for sale...............
-
4 pointsOK, stand up, state your name, and share with us the the reason we're all here.

3 pointsReading this I am reminded of a recent one timer who had a couple of RJs from his dad and uncle to sell. As a result one of our members got a terrific deal and the seller shared some very nice family photos and a home movie of one of the RJs in action. We all benefited by his brief visit to the site and we should have paid him for sharing these priceless mementos. This site is good enough that those of us who are addicted to will continue to support it and we should welcome everyone who shares our interest, even if it is only to offer us the opportunity to buy more.

3 pointsOk guys, No milking bulls, and I have no milking horse, now if you talk to Bert I can do a good job tearing up horses, but in reality Im easier on them then he is,Its just they always pick my shift to break down,I think its a conspirosy, they all put their little horse headers together, and devise what they can do to me next, they backfire from their front ends, their gas leaks, and they sometimes they buck and try to sink into the mud,I cant do nothin with them so I call Bert He is the Horse Whisperer!

2 pointsI guess one is never enough. Very innocently I acquired a 69 charger v8 to get going for my son. Well its up and going now and the girls ask me where there's are. So now I have 3 wheel horses in two months. I picked up a running and driving rj58 and a 60 suburban with a plow. I thought the whole getting addicted thing was a joke and now I am searching high and low for all things wheel horse. Hopefully pics will post. Thanks to all that offered help with my boys tractor! Pick these both up from my local shop for $600 for the pair. Both do run but I have to tinker with them a bit.

2 pointsI've been messing with my 520H trying to get it to stop surging without much success. It all started one day before I was about to mow a neighbors yard. The gas shutoff valve was leaking and I thought, "no big deal I have a new one I will replace it so I dont loose any gas in the yard". Famous last words. Well, I did replace it (it had the screen, replaced with one that did not have a screen) and I mowed the yard without loosing a drop of fuel. But as I finished the yard, the surging began. I didn't have a fuel filter in-line. Now I start going two different directions: try to solve surging (whole lots of time spent that I will not go into here) and replace the fuel lines and add fuel filter. Did all that and did not stop the surging but I thought I was good to go. After she sat for a while working on the carb, I tried to fire her up and got nothing. Cranked and cranked... Oh shoot forgot to turn on the gas! So I turn on the gas... Crank and crank. NOTHING! This tractor has less than 400 hours on it! Pulled the fuel line and it was dry, noticed the fuel filter looked a bit odd... cracked open the filter to find It has been on the tractor for less than a few hours of run time! Now the fuel pump is gunked up and the (brand new!) lines are too I think. LESSON LEARNED: CLEAN THE TANK before bothering with the rest of the fuel system. The tank is full of crud. I have to take the whole back end apart AGAIN. Augh.

2 pointsI knew someone would ask... Only picture I have. I have since replaced the green shroud with a more appropriate red one.

-
2 pointsSorry for my ranting, I just had to get it out. I'm feeling much better now! I did a band aid repair tonight. I put a second fuel filter in right at the tank for any future crud, blew the lines out, disassembled the fuel pump and found the culprit! A few small pieces of the plastic shavings lodged in the pump valves. Cleaned the pump out really well and she fired in two cranks! With all the carb work that had been done thinking that was the problem, she purred better than ever! Idled strong and revved right up. I only had a few minutes to test since it was late and I am trying to respect the neighbors, but I will really test her out tomorrow. I will clean the tank next time I have a chance to take her apart, and hopefully those shavings arent from the tank! but this should do for now. Thanks everyone for the support! I will add a better lesson to my original post: Upon aquiring a new-to-you Onan tractor, under NO circumstances should you run without at least one fuel filter. I will probably forever have two on her. Right after tank and right after pump.

2 pointsWOW! Did anyone just see the now, new College Playoff ranking? It has Clemson seated 1, LSU 2, Ohio State 3, and Alabama moves from 7th to 4th. As we all know Clemson faces FSU this weekend. I am hoping FSU takes Clemson out. Stanford faces some very unrated and unpredictable teams in the nest 4 weeks. I do look to see Stanford lose to one of them, not to mention, they face ND their last game of the season. Baylor has to play TCU and 1 will lose. LSU plays Alabama this weekend. Roll Tide! All I am saying is there are enough teams ranked ahead of Iowa that have to play either each other or some very tough opponents that could open the door to have Iowa in a position to be in the top 4 if they would beat OSU in the Big 10 conference game. Iowa does need to start putting up some style points in order to start getting the "Judges" to look their way!
