    Nope. I think if one wants to know about what's rare and desirable, you have to learn to enjoy your hobby, pay your dues and learn about rare stuff the old fashioned way, through studying, reading and listening to what more knowledgeable people share, both on forums like this, and in personal conversations at shows/swaps. There's so much to be learned by getting out and talking about differences and nuances and personal experiences. So much to be learned first hand by seeing it on a tractor right in front of you. I don't think all of that stuff should be compiled in one simple place.... but I'm kind of an ass that way. I'm happy to share what I know, have learned and seen... I just don't think it belongs all in one list to be the be-all end-all of all things rare for Wheel Horse. If we just post a list of what's rare, those models become all about the money, and not about what they might mean to collectors and the evolution of the company. It makes it not about the tractors and having fun anymore. Just a humble opinion, and take it for what you paid for it. YMMV. (your mileage may vary.) Get more done, Have more fun!

    I need help. I think mental help. I've bought 3 WHs in 4 weeks. Got this one Saturday from my uncle. We've been discussing this for quite some time now and finally got together. 1981 C -105 8 speed. She runs but smokes and the muffler is rusted out. Seat is roached. Plastic fender pan not in great shape, needs a little body work. But she's all there and original. Needs a good clean up, he's been using it on the farm for cutting/hauling wood. Also got the owners manuals, 36" side discharge mower deck w/idler pulley support and belt, 42" Dozer blade that looks to be complete but it's been sitting outside, wheel weights and chains. He made me a great deal on it. He has another WH, 1992 310-8, we couldn't make a deal on it. I made offer, he came down a little, I went up a little, still too far apart. He's gonna try and get more $ out of it. I may end up with it if it doesn't sell. The mower deck is rusted out on it, but it runs great. He's always owned WH and would have bought a new one if they were still in production. He got a new one of those yellow and white things named after a baby bear. This makes 5 WH tractors for me that I currently own. I started out with one, B-80 which I've had and used for 20 years. The deck was rusted out and in searching for that I ended up buying a B-100 in great condition early this summer (with a good deck), got it running and got interested in fixing up another one, and I keep finding good deals on them I hate to pass up. It must be an illness. The basement is getting full and I need to quit spending Saturdays chasing down tractors and spend time working on them.

    MY BOY HAS DECIDED TO BRING THIS HORSE BACK TO LIFE FOR A 4H PROJECT. WE FOUND IT IN A BARN WITH NO PRIOR HISTORY OR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT IT. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH YEAR, MODEL, ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT? I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO START. WAS THERE A SPECIFIC COLOR FOR BODY AND WHEELS? WE WOULD LIKE TO PUT IT BACK TO ORIGIONAL IF WE CAN. ANY HELP AT ALL WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED!!

    I like your thinking on the subject Jason. Going to the shows, meeting the people, taking pictures and enjoying the great conversation is the best way to learn about what is out there. When you think about it...they are all rare in Oklahoma.

    Like Mike said...Keep the cooling fins clean especially around the rear cylinder. Some other common problems are ; 1. the carburetor must be cleaned if you have RPM surging 2. the electrical connectors are subject to corrosion and need to be cleaned 3. there is a gasket under the oil filter base plate that has a history of leaking oil that blows across the rear cyl cooling fins contributing to the build up of grass in the fins. These problems all existed on my '88 520H when I got it 3 years ago. They are all east to fix and have been addressed many times on this forum. I dedicate my 520 to snow blowing duty only and it does a great job.

    I know...for as simple as these horses are...there is a lot to think about. My problem was....it was about 3 days later after I turned out the tow valve to move the horse...I knew I was going to have to push it again and then I would tighten it up...guess what...I did not have to move it again, just hopped on and went to mow the front yard. Ya know...if I only had one horse to think about, but I have 5...

    Not only did Bert lead us on a trail ride he worked very hard removing attachments so those of us who did not bring our could also ride. Left to right. 1.Hank 01 2. 3.Wheel - N - It 4 5 Linder took time out of her already busy day to spend some quality time.with my wife and even threw in a milking lesson. Bert also gave a complete front axle for my 8hp 73

    I put a Predator on my Lawn Ranger after screwing with the Tecumseh FOREVER. But I went at it a little differently. I cut the hood right at the seam between the top and front parts of the hood. Than I welded in a 2" piece of sheet metal which makes the hood just barely clears the engine which I mounted so the belt and belt guard would still work. I had to put a 2" spacer (small piece of small diameter pipe) at the front bottom of hood where it bolts to the frame and it is not even noticeable. Not sure I have a photo of that but can take one if anyone is interested. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Forgot to tell about the gas tank. I welded up a mount to fasten to the original gas tank mount so that part was still original. The gas tank location hole was my main reason for using the old tank rather than trying to figure out how to use the tank on the Predator. And the Predator is a great running engine even if it did come from Harbor Freight. It starts EVERY TIME on the first pull!! I have yet to see a bad review on this engine. In fact I have been thinking about purchasing another 212cc engine in case I have to replace another engine. The price will probably increase on these engines due to their popularity.     While I love these little tractors being original keep in mind we aren't dealing with a numbers matching 1970 Hemi Cuda vs a slant 6 cloned to a Hemi. Besides, if you ask things like what was the original (whatever part) to 10 people you'll likely get 12 answers. Some parts have numbers cast into them so they can be verified from the parts list. Like others have said, the exhaust needs to be worked, the hood has some extra holes and the key put back where it belongs. The footrests are very functional but nothing like the originals. It looks like they are held in place like originals so it will be an easy fix. Decals are available from a vendor here, redoyourhorse.com. Don't forget the mechanical stuff. I'd drain the transmission and it it needs it, flush it out. Make sure the seals are good. Service the engine. A reproduction belt guard and exhaust shield will be perfectly fine. Most importantly, just have fun.

    HI, I have one, it is a 520-8 , over 900 hours. I have used extensively year round. Mow. Snow blow, skid logs, used the pto as a power source for a cord wood saw etc. Decarbonized every 500 hours . I just checked the compression about a month ago, was excellent. I bought new in 1989 and I bought it to use. It has required minimum maintenance and has never let me down My only regret is not purchasing a fel with it. it is a great rugged tractor.     The 520's are great tractors and the Onan is a good engine. The big issue with the Onan is the valve seat problem. If the engine doesn't seem to be running smoothly and throttle up quickly and smoothly, it could indicate a problem with a valve seat coming loose. You could check the compression to confirm that. The valve seats can be repaired and restore the engine to proper running order. Red

    Not if its been maintained Dave. I think a properly maintained Onan should do 2000 hours. By maintained I mean more than just oil changes. They need some sort of de-carboning at some point and the tins should be removed periodically to make sure the cooling fins are not packed with grass clippings and crud. Mike.........

    Hopefully there are photos of my new acquisition (C145) in this post. I have been having lots of trouble getting photos to post. As you can see I am in need of a new fender section and have been discussing this problem with another member.

    Was back on leaf pick up duty again today and hopefully got a video of the sweeper in action. Beautiful fall day in mid Michigan.My neighbor came over and helped me pick some up with his sweeper.Yup he seen mine and said he had to have one. Found one at a golf course auction and picked it up.We picked up 15 loads in about 3 1/2 hours. I had the wife out with the blower going around the trees and other places that the sweeper can't get into. P.S. don't pay attention to the color of his tractor. 2015-10-25_19.19.44.mp4

    Found a package deal last night and was only after one piece. I didn't want it to get away so dad came to the rescue and made the trip for me. Since he has been retired, he looks forward to the next adventure and loves going on tractor related runs! This PTO will get cleaned up and mounted on a tractor to display. Haven't seen too many of them so we jumped on this one as quick as possible.

    Thank for the info Bob! and the fun reading. Found my Suburban as a neglected rusty brick. Nothing moved except for the tranny, which is surprising seems it was full of water. Obviously missing some parts, but I enjoy the hunt as well as the build. Thanks again!

    Let's just say that I suspected it...I did not have a 400 suburban to measure from and my "Hooby Dooby" is flat from getting stepped on lately. I just did not want to leave this guy hanging...waiting for information. Thanks Bob.

    Oh Boy.......Dino's had his moments.... Don't worry happens to the best of us... Like Bob said the low range is more for when you need low end grunt when you have very high grass and need to creep. Most ground engaging attachments such as a plows, tillers & blower benefit for the low range. I seldom use it but sure is nice when you have too. See if you can find the Owner's manual for your tractor which should be here on Red Square. It will have basic maintenance and you can always ask here. Enjoy your new horse and Like Steve said we love

    That's why you are always pictured at a Bus Stop. Does the remote have batteries in it?? Does it just control the garage door?? Does it shock the dog collar you have on???

    @whfan74 I removed the folder lock. Looks like you're just missing the two guards. The one over the big pulley is just sheetmetal same as any other belt guard, the other one over the PTO shaft is a little thicker gauge metal more like a mower chute deflector.Had mine mounted and out to a couple shows this year.

    1/2 of the pto switch powers the ignition when the pto is OFF. With the pto ON the seat switch powers the ignition when the operator is in the seat. Disconnect the seat switch wires and see if the engine will run.when the pto is turned ON. If it does suspect the ignition 1/2 of the pto switch is at fault. May be full of dirt and water. Garry Adding - The other 1/2 of the pto switch powers the starter circuit.

    Look at the cool little tractor one member just got for 700, with attachments. Do you want that? Or a chunk of steel. Just sayin..... that price is crazy. I guess thats why i cant part with the greenbacks for a snowcab. Glenn
