9 pointsNew member here, ricky racer. I just want to thank Scott and family for a really enjoyable day. I don't have a Wheel Horse but my father-in-law had one and used it for years and my neighbor across the street worked at Wheel Horse as a draftsman helping to design implements. He also was entrusted to take home tractors and implements to feild test. Anyway, thank you all for making a guy with green tractors feel welcome today. Rick

5 pointsthis is an edit KEEP SCROLLING DOWN / PICS ARE POSTED BY JRBLANKE this is an edit Well after a couple of years keeping my eye open for a locally owned Round Hood, I finally found one today located about a 40 minute drive from home. I'm hoping James can post some pics of this thing for me as Karl and I still cannot figure out what happened when Red Square had a change this past Summer. Anyway, It looks good and runs quite well in my opinion. It has a slot hitch that works! Tomorrow it will get an oil change. It has a starter/generator Kohler engine and the serial number tag on the tractor shows the number #48441 Can someone tell me what this is based on the serial number. Craig AMC rules says its a 701 because it has the double pullys on the engine and starter. I believe Craig is correct on that due to his vast knowledge of Wheel Horses that far surpasses mine. I would like to know what information the serial number is giving me. Thank you. Hopefully I can get some pics of the tractor on here somehow. Oh, and it also came with a snow blade that I will sell if any of you need it.

4 pointsWell today was supposed to be a local steam/tractor show and I was going to take the Horse but it's been raining all day and I couldn't bring myself to take this baby out in the rain. I did get it all finished and pulled out the DSLR to get some good finished pics. Her she is! I even cut the front yard with it before the pics. Man is it fun!! Thanks for following along and also for all the members who helped me out with parts and advice. I really appreciate it! It's a tractor that is sentimental to me and the look on my dad's face when he saw the finished product more than made the hours of work worth it...heck what am I saying, this stuff is fun no matter what but it was awesome to see how excited he was about the final product. I'm glad it turned out so well and is ready for another 40 years in the family. Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think!

3 pointsI suppose that technically this is an improper post. Maybe it will disappear shortly, but maybe not. It is about Toro, but pretty sure not Wheel Horse but maybe still ok. I'm sure that others have seen this but I'm not sure that I have... At least it's not GREEN! Bud! You out there? Another idea for you!
-
3 pointsMrs. Rules told me we had a few of the competition stop by... I'm assuming, to check out the 's here, who are clearly...head of the herd.
-
3 pointsI don't count how many i have that way i don't have to tell people. I just know its alot!!!
-
3 pointsI was up to 5 earlier this summer. Now down to 3. I am trying hard to make that the max. If I get ansty for another, I'll need to move one that I have. Self denial is however not my forte!

3 pointsConsidering that I had to source parts and repair the Cam Block and Cam on my Hydro, I am happy that I was able to hit this milestone in the Project. Not sure if I can get enough warm days to prep and paint the internal frame side panels. If I do, then I'll be able to make serious progress otherwise the project will hibernate until Spring. It's going to be a worker but should be nice enough to bring to the show next year....
-
3 pointsWhen the original condition is that nice... how can you not bring them home? Good luck walking away from #10 Bert.
-
3 pointsThe transmission should have 90 wt oil in it. 80/90 or close will be OK. It will take about 2 qts if dry. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the trans, and a fill plug on the side (about 1" up, near the rear axle). To fill, I would take off the seat and fender pan and use a funnel in one to those bolt holes. Take out the fill plug and when the oil starts to run out of there you have enough oil in the trans. It may take only about 1 1/2 qts. Nice horse Van.

3 pointsThat's really nice Bert, appears to be original, I like the 857's. I know what you mean about bringing more home, I started with one about two years ago with no intentions of having more than that...I now have three, and don't know where it'll go from here.

3 pointsThe value is truly in how much you enjoy it. I wouldn't plan on reselling it as you will not get out of it what you put into it. If you do a cheap resto then it devalues it for another buyer, if you do a detailed super resto then it will be worth FAR more BUT you will probably not get back out of it what you have to put into the restore. This is truely a hobby of love. (Now don't get me wrong, there is profit to be made if you play everything right, but its decent work and often means selling for parts. Which is hard if you dont know these horses really well)

2 pointsHey guys, im looking at a d250 and was wondering what you guys think. It looks rouph but it runs and drives. it also doesn't have the fenders on it, the guy believes he has them but isnt 100%. It comes with a 50in plow and a john deere stamped aluminium 60in deck that he got to fit. He also put some custom weight box on it that "does its purpose but doesnt look pretty". He is asking $1000 for it, what do you guys think. I am by no means a D series expert which is why im asking
-
2 pointsGive it a try and let us know, I have lots of rusty stuff I could send up to you!

2 pointsOn the bottom of the transmission is a drain plug. It is usually flush with the surface. It uses a 1/4" Allen wrench to remove it. The plug is just in front of and to the left of the front tang if the draw bar hitch. Usually covered with grass, dirt, and oil, it is hard to see. 1-1/2 qts. of 90-140 GL-5 gear lube is what's called for, but 80/90 w. gear oil is fine. That is assuming that you have emptied all the old fluid out. The older transmissions don't have a dip stick, so adding the correct amount is not an exact science. Don't use the plug on the side as it will not allow you to add the entire 1-1/2 qts. I fill through the shifter hole. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

2 pointsNo probably about it Steve. Anybody who picks a team that beats Notre Dame WILL gain a game on me. I will never ever never ever never ever pick against ND. Certainly some wow games yesterday and I'm betting some more next Saturday. The Death Valley game was one of them but more for the weather. I usually pick the teams on Sunday and wait for you to post them so I get the order right. I've got 7 of the 8 picked but there's one I just may have to flip a coin on ........... I'm gonna go with the home team. OK, all 8 picked.

2 pointsI just got a C-175 with the kt17 and it is Cadillac of wheel horse if you ask me! I like the motion control lever better than the ones on the dash and the layout is nice plus they just look good
-
2 pointsGuess you will have to find the previous owner who installed it to find out for sure.
-
2 pointsI have only been into tractors and wheel horses for 2 years. It took me a while but I finally learned that the market does not really pay the true value of a restored "perfect" tractor. So I decided to paint this one to suit me rather than stay absolutely true to original. Time will tell whether I like it as music as all red. But basic colors will be wheel horse....if you count the more modern ones which had black frames. The body panels will for most part be Red. And I really like the look of the 5 rib fronts.

2 pointsVan, the drive belt # is 9691, that is a 70" A belt, either a 4L700 or A68. I wouldn't be too worried about a new belt without having a belt guard, the guard is a big part of having the belt stop when declutched. The part numbers of the 552 and 701 belt guards are not the same, but that may just be because they have different decals on them; just have to try it. You can adjust the brake band per the manual and see if that helps. Looking forward to seeing the 701 and you.

2 pointsI forgot about the different hydro transmissions. Here are some screen shots from the master list that lists the model number, year, engine, transmission etc. for all the "C" series

2 pointsThose Toro utility vehicles are very "crude" to put it nicely. The one I saw was 100% original. Even original paint ... that was remaining anyway. Factory built, but rough enough and basic enough that it almost looked garage built. Unique and strong, but ancient in style and design. For 1980 technology, it amazed me that it looked like 1940. I bought the L106 last winter. Was a very original tractor that sat in the back of a garage for 20+ years. Original owner passed away and second owner bought it from his widow's garage sale. Unfortunately, the second guy put a rattle can paint job on it and ruined the patina. We've started a complete restoration. I've got the wheels, tires, original seat, and correct steering wheel done, as well as new bushings throughout the deck carrier unit. Currently the deck is apart for blasting and the frame will be soon too. Runs great. My son rode it around the yard the day we got it running for a good two hours. It's been up on blocks on a bench for the past 6 months waiting its turn. Beginning of disassembly. Currently.

2 pointsBreaker...Breaker, where you at Sparky ??? Yep, the little 120 w/Tecky has a bigger knob......go figger
-
2 pointsMy '74 C-120 has a HH120 Tecumseh with a Sundstrand 90-1136 hydro The '75 C-160 has a K341 Kohler with a Sundstrand 90-1140 hydro. Both have two piece seats and flip up fender/seat pans. The 160 has a different knob on the F/R lever than the 120. 160 knob 2 5/8" long 120 knob 4 5/8" long

2 pointsI had one too ! Cool pics Craig . OK...OK, Gene...I'll see your green turtle with this red one. You know buddy, now that you've shown it.... we're now going to have some picts of you riding it.

2 pointsI will, you know I will Steve. I'll light it up once again. Here we go. Teams that are not supposed to win, win. Teams that are supposed to win and win big lose or barley get by. Should Indiana have been ranked in the top 25? With a game like that, they sure played like a top 25 and Ohio State once again BARLEY gets a win. Let's even go further than that. They escaped OT by 9 seconds. Had it gone into OT, Indiana would of had the momentum and OSU, in my opinion, would have lost. Then we jump up north to Michigan State. Again, another team that is supposed to win BIG! They had it worse than OSU. 24-21 to a 1-4 team! That is really pathetic! Congratulations to both Illinois and Iowa for pulling off victories they should not have won. However, maybe they are better than what NCAA thinks? HMMM. I'll touch on that later. They both did something spectacular. Should they be ranked then in the top 25? The only thing that is going to keep OSU and MST in their respective rankings is Ole Miss got blown out by the 25th ranked team. However, if I were TCU, I would be saying I am at least number 2 because of our victory. If style points gets you ranked, then beating a team 50-7 sure would make a good case. But then again, Texas has been struggling with their program the last couple years. Throw in Baylor that is number 5 who clobbered Texas Tex. Wait, this looks almost like the same race as last year between Baylor ad TCU.... < I think I already talked about that one earlier in the thread. I wonder if they will choose a solid conference champ this year should it come down to it. The 4th and 5th ranked teams are STILL playing and WINNING like they should for top 5 teams. But the B1G top 1, 2 teams get by with a slug fest win that should only happen playing ranked teams...... Michigan throttled Maryland. If OSU does not find a way to start winning like they did at the end of their season last year, they will once again wind up as a ONE HIT WONDER! I'll still root for them, but the fact remains the same. Our conference is filled with teams that light it up 1 year and just barely make the cut the next year. Or worse yet, they don't even make it the next year. While teams like Baylor and TCU are right back at it again this year. Same as last year. 1 thing I will add to this. The only other saving grace we have is that the 6th, 7th and 8th ranked teams fell yesterday. So, maybe, just maybe the NCAA should rethink their analogy on style points. I still am a believer in a "W" is a "W" no matter what the score. To that point MST, OSU congrats on your victories. We will now most likely see Iowa in the top 25, Wisconsin will drop out completely. Ole Miss, ND, UCLA, and Georgia will drop drastically, if not out altogether. < Because of the 5-0 teams that are still out there, like Iowa and Memphis Tigers. < Memphis faces Ole Miss next week. If they win that game, they will get a ranking....Final comment, CONGRATULATIONS TO CINCINNATI for their victory over the Hurricanes. Rant is done until next week! Steve, John, congratulations to you both! RMC

1 pointI finally was able to pony up and have the proper 340 motor built for my first car (1971 Dodge Dart) that I had wanted for years. I went to see uncle Bo to pick up his dolly to bring the car up to a guy who I did a barter with to swap motors and install new exhaust etc. I then made a few more stops and after my last stop as I walked out to my truck I see some bonehead hit the side of it and decided not to wait around to tell me. Anyway today is bitter sweet. Dragging the car up in a little while to the guy's shop. Don't plan on putting in an insurance claim on this one. Hopefully by Sunday I will be able to pick up my Dart with a nice new 400+ hp 340 installed with new tti exhaust and converter... Some people have no conscience.....

1 pointIf you open the photo in "Paint Brush" then go to "Stretch/skew" you can make it any percentage (25% works) then save it as a new photo and upload that; or become a supporter.

1 pointWell I lied or really couldn't stand the suspense. I shifted the gear and removed the "top one" so you could see the match of these two.
