3 pointsYou have to watch out for low flying planes at Bud's! I shot a video of the ride on Ol Shep. It appears fine on my desktop, but for some reason it played sideways. That's how Youtube recorded it also. I don't see any way to fix it. So here it is. Don't hurt your necks!

3 pointsDon't take this the wrong way, but you that's a nice looking rear end you got there....

3 pointsBump. I haven't been here in 3 years... and that's about how long she's sat in storage. Life got in the way lol. I just brought it into work this past weekend and I've been working on getting it running. I've thrown a whopping $70 at it so far in front wheel bearings, fuel tank bushing (it fell apart when I tried to drain the tank... huge stinky mess), fuel line, petcock, filter, hose, carb rebuild kit and a spark plug. I got it to pop on starting fluid before I messed with anything, which was very encouraging. Today I just picked up & assembled the fuel parts, haven't done the carb yet, but it DID run on it's own fuel supply for about 10 seconds and the motor flooded and gas started spilling out of the front of the carb. Next stop is the carb rebuild.

2 pointsI recently acquired a free B-80 that had been sitting outside for a number of years. I forgot to check the exact model number but it is a 4-speed, making it a 1974 or 1975 based on the "Master Model List" (http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/wheel_horse_products_master_model_list.pdf). It comes with a 36" rear discharge deck which apparently has been converted to side-discharge via a welded-on end from another deck. I was told the engine (K181 8 HP) was unusable and indeed was seized due to rust, so initially the plan was to borrow its transmission for my C-160 while its 8-speed undergoes a rebuild (broken High-Low selector fork, leaky seals). However upon pulling the head I found the piston was only ~3/8" from TDC and I was able to free it with some PB Blaster and a makeshift cheater bar on the flywheel. The valves were both stuck open (possibly the original reason it began sitting) but I was able to free them up as well by tapping them. It now turns pretty smoothly by hand so I think it may be easier to get this engine running than to do the transmission swap with the C-160. I'd like to try this without doing a full rebuild but have some concerns (like breaking the connecting rod). There is a slight ring of rust/carbon at the top of the cylinder sleeve (due to the position of the piston while it sat) but it doesn't seem to affect the piston travel and I think it is above the level of the top piston ring. The rest of the cylinder sleeve looks smooth and shiny. The piston rings may be stuck. I'm not sure that I saw the compression release working (exhaust valve is supposed to open slightly at ~2/3 up the compression stroke). Will the valves just get stuck again if I don't remove and clean/grind them? Also the rest of the tractor is missing a few parts: - Gas tank has been replaced with a birds nest. Local dealer quoted ~$140 for a new one, though I should be able to borrow the C-160's for testing. - Missing brake pedal and possibly the first linkage (pedal to jackshaft/lever) - Air cleaner cover and wingnut - Muffler - Lights (not really an issue, I'd rather rig up LED's anyway) If I remember I will try to get some pictures (though they won't be pretty ) and post the exact model information. Any advice on the engine or leads on the missing parts?

2 pointsSo another horse followed me home tonight. This time a 1966 wheel horse 1076. This is my first wheel a matic tractor and I must say, it is pretty nice. It also came with a deck, push blade, and wagon. Wagon is pretty rusty, but he did throw in some extra parts. I even had the trailer I hauled it on thrown in on the deal and just had to pay title transfer. It was a good day lol!

2 pointsThanks Thor27. Nice of you to notice Seriously, I was gonna wait until I had the Cam straightened out but I have a lot of time it getting this thing cleaned up, primed, painted and axles polished. I spent close to an hour with steel brush, brass brush and emory wheel to polish the axle shafts. They were less than appealing and one side required the 10 ton puller to break the hub free, I plan on having this tractor until I no longer am around and want to be able to get the hubs off without the same struggle in future. So Polished them and when hubs go on, so will anti-seize. As I am not trying to win a show with mine, I am doing my GT14 with black frame and Hydro with Red Body. As opposed to all red. To me, it almost looks like some tractors are dipped in red vat:)
-
2 pointsIt looks like it might be early next week before I get the Cam Block and plastic Cam replaced and figured the Hydro and Motor deserve to be bragged about a bit:-) Also got the frame and hydro foot peg mocked up and ready to weld in place....and lots of internal parts painted but no pics of those until they are on the tractor again. Was also able to add a 220 receptacle for my welder this afternoon.

2 pointsGood idea to wait until Thursday, but I just checked the weather again and the forcast is Friday Rain 80%, Saturday Rain 100%, Sunday Rain 90%. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Oh, Gulftane thank you for letting us know how you are feeling. Hang in there and I hope you begin feeling better soon friend

2 pointsDue to the tremendous amount of precipitation headed this way over the next several days, I think it would be a wise decision to postpone it to a later/drier date.

2 pointsThinking my stack would get here tomorrow I checked the tracking to verify and it said 'delivered'! It's off to the mailbox I went. Bud, these things are unreal! Originally I was planning on putting it on the 500 Special. Since that project is just starting I may put it on the Suburban. Thanks!!

2 pointsExcellent "Squonk" visit today !!!!!!!!!!! We had a great chat, and a short ride on Ol' Shep in the raindrops, lol ! Nice to meet you Mike, my pleasure !

2 pointsWe are definitely down to the point where we will have to make some "off the wall" picks and hope you win those in order to advance in the standings. The first several weeks is where you want to do well and use that advantage to help carry you through some of the inevitable upsets that will occur. So hat's off to you guys that picked em right early on. I wasn't one of you so it only gets tougher for me from here on out. You can always tell the guys who lagged behind early by their picks later on. They get a little crazy.

2 pointsdid this one last year or so. tilted the chipper 10 degrees and with the idler prevents belt whip that will destroy a belt in a few minutes. ive chopped 3" branches with it.

2 pointsWell after selling off every wheel horse I had and switching over to the green machine, I had to find another and here it is. A bargain at $300.00. Boy have I missed these red machines.

2 pointsI live in Virginia.....I know of maybe 5 Wheel Horse people.....But go to Pa or Ohio ,,,,,,,,,,they have tractors falling out of the sky,,,and some of them,,,with the original box's,,,,But hey........finding them is 1/2 the fun and you get a great hunting story,,,,Who wants a tractor to fall on their head anyway ??? Happy Hunting..!!

1 pointWell it's been a while SINCE The Squonk has posted anything much about the Skonkfest 1267. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/52230-ist-annual-sqonkfest/ After arriving back here to Wheel Horse Plaza from The big show, I was armed with a few needed goodies. Skonk is a cantankerous old dude and was loud and rough around the edges like an old sailor at a SpongeBob film festival so some upgradin was needed. I put skinny ag's on by the way to fit Skonk through a door into my rear shop. Plus I added fine 7/16 bolts and lug nuts for easier tire changes. First big issue was how loud he was. Plowin snow at work with the K 301 echoing off the brick and glass was rather obnoxious. So the First order of business was a different exhaust. It started out with a pancake unit, I got a Gravely style muffler from Napa. I was a bit disappointed. These Napa units used to be a lot heavier construction but now they are light and flimsy like every other mower supplier has. I added a stainless stack from a bathroom handicap rail. Still too loud I had my welder friend billy Bob add a baffle into the stack. Much quieter and with some carb tinkering, quieter yet. Next order of business was adding a mid tach-a-matic so I can use my grader blade Hood hit the steering wheel when opened so the steering shaft was lengthened. Next was the seat. The seat on it looked good but wasn't a WH seat and I hate seats sittin right on the fender pan. Plus it was mounted with wood. So off to TSC on Father's day! Next was the battery box. The L & G battery was bouncing all over.. A block of wood was used to take up space in the battery box. The large box was also hitting the steering gear Used a smaller box. Wil get a better one someday. While I was in there, added a fuse holder to the always hot lighter/light circuit Found a neato front Tach-a-matic adapter for the early tractors at the show so I had to put it on. Now if I put the PTO back on I can run a deck blower or hook up my Generator! As you can see, the hood hinge holes were wallowed out and the shaft was shot along with the hood holes Billy Bob and the welder to the rescue What good are all these changes with out doing the lights? Added new reflectors and LED's from Wally World Gotta bee seen at night plowin so Napa supplied the rear LED tail Multi hitch capability Finally driving it It. With the quieter exhaust You could hear Skonk rattle like that sailor, So back to Billy where he reapaired a missing belt guard mount Don't know what the future will hold for Skonk. Right now it's going to be my primary mode of transport at the Steam Pageant. Still on the fence about a restore. There is about 50 lbs. of Industrial red/ Pink on this tractor. Like it got dropped into a vat. Maybe on it's 50th birthday I 'll do it up for the big show in 17

1 pointLike Ed, "Ekennell" said, fuel, spark and compression and you are good to go! I bought an early production 953 from Ed that has been setting around for a looooooooong time, a new coil and spark plug and a carburetor cleanup and it fired right up and runs great. I will be rebuilding the engine as a part of the total restoration of this , but I wanted to run it first to have some idea of the condition the motor is in, fortunately for me it has no issues. If I were you I would do the same. Good luck and keep us posted.

1 pointI call Terry yesterday for an order of decals. We talk for a little bit I ask him how many sets of 607 has made in the last few years . He paused for a while and I do not think he has made any that he can remember. I told Terry how long it took to find this model. He says it has always been available. But no one has really called in on this model. So I guess it is a rare Model. Just thought I pass this on to you. Take Care Gary B.......
-
1 pointIt's gonna be cool around 60 but no rain in sight. I sure wish I could be there again.
-
1 pointYou may be a WH noob, but it sounds like you're not an engine noob. Any engine that has been setting for a while, especially in the weather, should be torn down and inspected. Completely. A ounce of prevention. ...

1 pointare you planing on cutting a round patch that just fits the hole and then welding it in flush ? that's how i would do it

1 pointYou can add anything you would like to this thread. Whatever you plan on selling, wanting to buy, or looking to trade. Keeping it all in one place makes it easier for everyone to locate. See you Friday!

1 pointManaged to blast the hood today, after a little blast cabinet modification. I have added 6" to the middle. Now I can stand up without bending. Had to use a garbage bag so I could get the front of the hood blasted. All in all it worked well, Mods to the cabinet I have been thinking about for awhile.

1 pointYou're not referring to the muffler on that green engine? Pictured below is a "shower head" muffler.

1 pointThanks again guys!!! No it does not have a rear PTO. I wouldn't mind one but for me I think the three point is more useful. So I started tracking down the fuel, took off the lines and noticed a clog, took the air compressor and blew out the clog. It was a piece of gas line that had been eaten away probably from all the alcohol in the fuels now. Anyways I was too anxious to go and get more fuel lines lol So I put them back on and IT FIRED RIGHT UP!!! Still has the starter issue obviously but well get to that. Of course with it running I couldn't help but try it out a little bit. The transmission seems to work great, and the hydraulics raise and lower!! all in all I'm ecstatic I feel like I got the deal of the century!! It does want to die out at full throttle but from idle to half throttle it runs just fine. Now to work on new fuel lines, and getting that starter to work then probably some carb work, I hate carbs so if anyone knows of a guy that lurks around here from MI that might have a recommendation on a good mechanic please let me know. Thanks again for all the advice guys I really appreciate it!!

1 pointWell it made it's maiden voyage without the axles melting off so I must have done a good job packing the bearings. Buffalo to Syracuse.

1 pointThis project finally came to the top of my list when I saw the amount of blackberry vines I need to dispose of this fall. I stripped the non running engine down including valve removal. I left the piston in. Added a Vee pulley to the flywheel. Some wheel chocks and spacers to tighten the belt. I know the chipper is turning in reverse....I have put a reverse twist in the belt, and the initial test seems OK. Some concerns are the small size of the flywheel key. I have replaced the aluminum shear key with a steel key. The radial loading on the pulley end may be a problem....time will tell. Keep in mind this chipper is for vines, weeds, and leaves. No wood.
