Hi all, This sure seems like a strange post to me but I did end up joining the 520 club! My local show was last weekend and had a guy approach me wanting to sell his. We agreed on a pretty reasonable price and both walked away happy. I have not looked up the year on this one yet but it must be pretty new with the toro decals on it. It has 630 hrs on it which didn't seem too bad to me considering my c175 has 900 now and is still doing great. It needs a little bit of work but nothing major. All the guages except tach work, however it does not want to stay running he has an electric fuel pump on it but it does not want to work right so I will be on the hunt for a correct pump or a kit to repair the one on it(if that can be done) I also am planning to reset the valves and decarbon heads like everyone says too because I definitely don't want to get stuck with the valve seat issue. It should be a good worker and is most likely going to replace the c175 for now.

You are absolutely correct, alzheimers has not set in! I wasn't shouting at you, I just figured if you felt like you were getting older your eye sight might be failing.

Hi guys, I just got my first WH. I traded a $700 Harborfreight generator for it. It has the 10 HP. Kohler with the 8 speed tranny. Overall, I think it's in pretty decent shape. It has home made wheel weights and chains on the tires. It came with plow parts, everything but the frame for the plow. The model number is 1-0360-8. It runs great, has all the stickers and the head/tail lights work. I'm not sure of the deck size but, it is a rear discharge deck. I got the tractor mainly for snow removal this winter. I'm the last house on a dirt lane so if I wanna get to work, it's up to me to remove the snow. I need the bracket for the rear end of the tractor to hook up the plow. If any one has one they would like to sell me fairly cheap, let me know. Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I'll be using this forum alot for help. I just noticed the rear hubs are different, I didn't even see that yesterday when I looked it over. What engine oil should I use and what trans oil should I use? Thanks.

About half ready with the Snow machines. Still have to get the big Kubota ready but have more fields to mow before that happens.

Holy crap I think I have a disease??? Picked up another horse yesterday. My wife asked why and her eye started twitching. Is there cure? I don't even have space in the 'barn'. This is by far TB best machine yet for me based on price and condition. I don't know what to get rid of?
  6. 4 points
I'd think about getting rid of the wife.

Actually, by your model #, you have a 1973 Raider 10. Transmission # 5086 (8 sp with 4 pinion differential and 1" dia axles)...approx. 2 qts of 90 wt. Engine 10 hp Kohler K241S-46636D...approx. 2 qts of either 30 wt or 10W-30 wt. Your choice...seems 30 wt is getting harder to find. Nice horse. and thank you for the pictures. Welcome to Red Square

Got the stainless lines secure and done for now. The lines kicked my behind, it took 6+ hrs today and hydraulic fluid all over my tractor loader and deck. Oh well it's very powerful for a small loader I have a 14 ft. 83in. wide tandem axle trailer and by lifting on the hitch end I got the tires off the ground and the trailer resting on the back end.

I drilled mine Brian, then made a housing to collect the heat and pump it into the cab. Cab stays ~ 30F warmer than outside temp.

As promised, first time it's been out since its new hood makeover. It's my second mowing season with this 520h and sure makes a nice cut. Not bad for a worker. I just blow it off after every mow and wash/wax it every now and then. Of course grease and oil changes to. The P.O. really took care of it. Don't understand how they end up in such rough shape. They weren't exactly cheap throw aways. Oh well, this one is safe.

It may be tooo late, but I'll warn you anyway. Make some room...these WH tractors are addictive and they tend to multiply quickly. I do have several axle brackets with the connecting bar like the one shown below. BTW, My one Son lives North of Dover off of Rohrers Church Road.

I love plowing with horses, you will really enjoy it. They can push like a tractor twice their size if you get enough traction (weight). Those wheel weights look pretty serious, any idea what they weigh? Post an ad in the wanted section for your plow frame, PA should be a pretty good place to find parts.

Yes Joe sounds like you did get a steal, a tub and a beer for 17! so now i know you got a little $$ left over from me so go get yourself one of these http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/store/ to keep the pics coming & download more manuals! We expect a pic of that bar mounted and cutting!

A tub cart for $17....That's a felony. A running 855 w/ sickle bar for $300....also a steal. BTW, all your photo posting problems will go away when you become a supporter.

So I have been working on this on and off last week, this is were I am at. Took tires of rims, sand blasted the front two, paint was thick, not sure what it was but some of it was stuck on pretty well. The back ones will be more fun as they have most all the paint on them. Pulled tower and steering wheel, may be on the look out for a better steering wheel.

I agree with the above, but I would drain it and put 2 qts of diesel (which I have done) and run it on blocks for about 20 to 30 minutes using all the gears. Diesel, like kerosene, will get into the tight places and dissolve and combine with what is there and drain out...and it is cheaper then using 90wt to flush. The problem...you still will not know what you have just buying a machine. You can pull the sifter and kind of get a little view in the trans, but it will not tell the full story. If you want to know what is going on inside your transmission, you really have to open it. Sorry...but it is true. I would still try this first, because it will clean it out a lot. If you still have problems shifting from hi to low...there is a shift plate the can bend or break to cause what you have. If you never need low to do anything...leave it in high. Let us know what happens after you flush it. Here is a link that will show you that piece I am talking about. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/17947-idiots-guide-to-8-spd-trans-rebuild/ There are quite a few threads in the "Reference Section" on the main page that will show you what you may be up against. I hope you know...there is no shifting allowed if you are not at a COMPLETE STOP on these horses...not coming to a complete stop and shifting is what causes your problem.

Just happened to check Craigslist last night and saw a listing for a snow blower that had just listed 30 minutes before. Called first thing this morning and stopped by and picked it up. Seems ms to be in great shape. Can't wait to get time to mount and test it. Any advice before I do?

So the story goes. Gentleman I bought from wanted 350 for this WH sight unseen. From talking with him I thought it was worth the drive. I pulled up with him dragging this thing out of the barn. Been sitting for the last 15 years. Gave it a shot of gas and a battery fired right up. Got the sickle bar and mower with it. Loaded it up paid for. Then he says he has the trailer his grandpa bought in 65 for it that he wouldn't sell. I didn't know WH made trailers. How bummed was I. I asked for a beer then. After that beer things looked up he said he would sell the trailer. Wohoo. Still not knowing if it was WH trailer or a WH sticker on it was just placed there since it wasn't very straight. 100 bucks he said. Went to grab the wallet realized I only had 17 dollars left after the one and a half hour drive ther. After an hour of b and s i told him I only had 17 bucks. He sold it to me. What a nice guy. So looking for some input on this rig. 1965 855? Not sure what direction the sickle bar goes on. And can I get pointed to the right direction for some sickle bar parts. In the picture you can see some teeth missing. But on top of it he's pulls out some old literature to go with it. How cool. I am trying to upload pics but says they are to big. Bear with me.

Looks good Brian. Everything the guys above suggest....I also like to remove any dings in the auger. I use an old ax head as a backer anvil and tap with the flat side of a hammer. Two pipe wrenches make a really good bending tool to straighten any badly bent edges. Then grind the edges to remove any burrs.

Nice find. Your are going to like this. As the others have said, check the bearings, chain, idler, and belt. Now is the time to address any issues. Bearings and the idler are readily available for small money. Let me know if you need help. Kurt

I used it all winter. Worked as good as, or better than, a steel cutting edge. Very hard material, yet slides like a plastic. Drills like steel. No noise. No scratches on the sealcoat. On a smooth blacktop drive, I'd bet it would last 20 years or longer. I also plow about 200 feet of brushed concrete sidewalk which I noticed files it down some. I'm guessing I'll get about 3-4 years of use before I need to flip or replace it. Had a fresh coating on the drive last fall before winter and in the spring, you could not tell it was ever plowed. A lot of commercial snow removal companies are going to this stuff for their trucks. We sometimes get real winters, lately not so much though.

Sir, getting rid of all of them and this Web Site might be your only cure! After going thru the ( K12 step program) twice in the last 30 years, and getting rid of all my horses both times I am back up to FOUR, and these things a damn near impossible to come by down here! Good luck, Chris in Florida. 9

I put a composite wear bar on my blade last season. Works great and doesn't scratch my black top. Drill your own holes. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HEAVY-DUTY-54-POLY-WARE-BAR-JOHN-DEERE-WHEEL-HORSE-CUB-CADET-BOLENS-SNOW-PLOW-/261634661189?hash=item3ceaa41b45

There is no official Wheel Horse Red, most of us use the International Harvester Red for the body and Antique White for the wheels. If you have a paint gun it is best to ad a hardener to the paint.

It is normal to have to try a couple times to get them to shift form High to low and vis verso. These are straight cut gears and trying to force them to engage is not a good thing. let the clutch out spin them a bit and try again

The name of the product is called oil eater. My buddy turned me on to it. Puts mean green to shame. I had grease on the siding of my house from the previous owners proprane grill. Nothing would get it off. Tryed this oil eater and the stuff melted off. I use it on all my tractors that I get and makes degreasing a breeze. Plus its biodegradable and does not hurt the enviroment or grass. If it sounds like I am talking the product up, I am. Truly works great. Maybe tomorrow I will shoot some pictures with the good camera and the new decals on.
