I got this today has not run in years and needs a gastank but it has a nice 42RD deck and a 12hp kohler. I wasn't even looking for a new project this one came to me

...well...actually, very gifted indeed, considering the Joisey Hawg Glenn passed this gorgeous example of a '68 500 Special on to me today. All for just the price of gas to stop by and pick it up...what do you think, was my lucky day, or what? As you can see, I'm pretty happy, was a really great time hanging out with Glenn and the boys this afternoon.

Saturday I sold the 264-6 and Monday bought a 1973 12 Automatic and got it from the same guy who sold me my 655 last year. I had been looking for an older 12 hp hydro but have been leery of getting a bad transmission but when I saw that this one was being sold by the guy that sold me the 655 I new that it would be a solid tractor. Like with the 655 he had given it a complete tuneup, replaced the fuel lines and filter, solenoid, ignition switch and WD-40 and steel wooled the hood and fender. He had the original owners manuals including a warranty card filled out and not mailed in, and the manual for the replacement 93 Kohler replacement K301. I'm so happy!

My new addition to the herd 1054A purchased over Labor Day weekend in its original skin(and will stay that way) runs like a champ, came with front blade, rear plow & original paperwork, the former owner had it for over 20 years, I am very happy to add it to my collection.

Wow, nice to see fences being mended or maintained in here, but who's the bearded lady in post #92? Is there going to be a mini-circus at half time of the Michigan game this week? ( This post provided for chuckles only. )

Now I can start adding some " tricks" to this thing I'm building, a little shiney stuff here and there to brighten it up. You guys wanna know a secret ? The more shiney trinkets and whistles and bells you add, the less likely somebody will notice your shitty rattle can paint job. It's true, it's like a magician, he gets your attention to look at something else , and then he pulls his magic trick. What do your eyes see first? All I paint with is a rattle can, is good enough for me. Powder coat something ? Forget it ! It won't happen here, I'm not gonna blow that kind of money on a 100 dollar tractor, because at the end of the day, it's just a lawn mower .............

A few tractor buddies drop by now and then , but not too often. Most of this stuff ends up on Facebook in a couple groups every few nights. Now I have started posting here since 857horse started this thread. I don't want to be a chest beater or blow smoke up anybody's ass, but if I get an idea I like to share it, save guys a little money here and there, and I want to keep the Wheel Horse hobby alive as much as anybody. There aint any other brand for me, I've had one since 1973, it was my first, a 753, and I fell in love. They are the most simple tractor there is to work on, if you have 3 wrenches you can tear one completely apart in an hour or two.

OK, here is where I am at. I remember when ND went their own way and bought their own TV network and went on their own. I and a ton of people, including some networks, thought it was a pretty arrogant move, and we were hoping that ND would fall on it's face for doing that. They did not, but I still think it did not help them. For sure, they are not the force they were back in the early 1970's when they kept playing Alabama for the National championship. It looks like a team's dominance comes and goes (Michigan), old rivalries come and go (Nebraska vs Oklahoma), good conferences come and go (goodbye SEC), and now we have what everyone always wanted...a College Football Playoff for the National Championship...and you still have controversy. Geeze, if you look at all the banter up above...you guys even got evanloock out of bed...he has SEC and Alabama tattooed on his forehead. Hi Evan... . That is what is so special about this thread...if we keep it 3 steps below hostile...it is going to be an excellent thread...and a ton of fun.

Very busy work week so did not get much done until this afternoon. So I am busy trying to wrap up all the loose ends. One of those loose ends is that I have been trying fruitlessly to free the right side rear hub from the Hydro I plan to use on the tractor. I broke 4 different pullers in the process. Eventually got to point where I could use hub from opposite side as others on the forum have done. Just could not get the leverage necessary. I finally decided it wa stone to go big or give up. Bought the hydraulic puller below from Amazon for a C note. I should have made this investment ages ago. Once I got it in position I had it off in no time. I initially had set it up with a Grade 8 nut between the ram and bolt head as ram had a centering point. Then I realized that centering point gives way under pressure. Very pleased with how easy this is in comparison to prior efforts. I will say that it required all the muscle that the 10 ton puller had. But the puller won this round

I may be bad but I have not installed the brakes on any of my machines. When you disengage the PTO, whatever is connected to it deck snowblower etc all come to a stop. If I have no attachment belt on of course the PTO will spin bit that does not bother me. Cleat

You can put tachmatic hookup on them. Then you can use new implements. I have Charger 12 and Electro 12 both modified to the newer tach matic. One is on snow plow duty the other will be on blower duty (with a replacement 16hp engine) They are great machines just make sure the hydro is still strong. Get her fully warmed up then put her against and imovable object she should spin her wheels on pavement or dig a hole on dirt. My charger with tachmatic adaptor

All is well guys! ND & Michigan is a Great Rivalry, and it makes me upset that it ended and the way it ended. It's a money maker for both schools, and has as much history and tradition as does any. Thanks for the good Words about BO The Lil Focker. He sure keeps us busy that's for sure. He's like having a kid around here again. His mind is always working and is smart as a Whip. After so many years without kids and living by ourselves, (except when grandkids come over) ya get to be independent and love the peace and quite. MJ has done wonders with him. Not one accident for him for 7 weeks now. He has a Michigan Collar and actually gets pissed off when she takes it off of him. He really took a liking to John Brrly1 when he came over the other day, guess he knows good guys when he see's them. By the same token There was a couple HORSETHEIFS that were over here a while back and he knows how to point em out! Goodluck to all, Since BO picked em I can blame him if I don't win!

Duke, I was also thinking it was getting overly intense but then some of your words hit me. Having lived just outside of South Bend for 45 years I know very well the attention Notre Dame gets. I loved it though because I'm a fan. But now the tables have turned. All we hear is Gators this, Seminoles that........I hate it!!!! OK, nothing personal....nuff said.....let the bashing continue. Now, the puppy. Shih Tzu's are pretty special to us. We've had a few over the years. One of them even won the Indiana State championship in 4-H dog obedience with our oldest daughter. Bo certainly is cute but are you sure you want to saddle him with that name? I'm kinda leaning more towards......Lou.

Looks good. We are going to look at a 1974 C-120 this weekend for my step-daughter. Of all the things I tried to show her and get her to do over the years, she has picked up the Wheel Horse fever!!

Mike, Nothing personal. It's simple really.... You either love em or hate em. It probably doesn't help that I live so close to them and have to listen to the Rhetoric on 4 local TV Stations and their one sided reports. I have many many friends that are IRISH FANS and they hate Michigan more than I do ND. N A T U R A L E N E M I E S It most likely would be a great name for a book. John is correct, that's just me. that being said It's time for my picks. But it comes with a story. After 33 years of marriage I knuckled under and Let MJ have a puppy. She was looking for a Shih Tzu, when she finally found one in an add, she said can we go look at them they have two males left? I said sure, where are they? She said Ann Arbor WTF 160 miles AWAY!!! So on July 4th the next day we were on our way, I told her on the way to Ann Arbor Hey being your getting the puppy, I get to pick him out of the litter and name him. That was fine with her. Let me Introduce to you BO Gee...... I wonder where he got that name from???? I have decided to let him pick em this week! Notre Dame ILLINOIS PURDUE WISCONSIN MARYLAND MICHIGAN PENN ST. MINNESOTA OHIO ST. WASHINGTON ST IOWA AT IOWA ST. NEBRASKA INDIANA MICHIGAN ST. NORTHWESTERN

Mike, here's the deal. It's pretty basic, that's Mr Statistic!! Don't think I need to say that HuH Duke?? On the lighter side of things you guys have been hammer down in here, like wow!! Anyways earlier this week one of the former Hawkeyes passed away at home in Iowa. Tyler Sash passed away only 27 years old. I don't know much more than that other than the Hawkeyes will pay respect by blocking out the Hawkeye emblem with the #9. Ok then let's get back to why were here. Rob I believe that the pac 12 has something to learn and it starts this week at Michigan State sorry! We've been here before but the Big 10 has started to come around. Anyways I'm for seeing victories by the following teams this week. Notre Dame, Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, Maryland, Michigan, Penn State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Rutgers, Iowa, Nebraska, and Northwestern. Don't worry Jim starts getting into the mix and its Like Battlestations!!! This is just The Duke!! Never fails, Indiana should be able to handle this. Yes and if you reread the part where I am talking about Michigan State wouldn't you actually think thats my pick??? Hello, See ya, bye

I made a post about this once before but it might help someone as much as it helped me, I'm in southwest Michigan and I went to ALRO steel in my area and bought a piece of of ( I think ) 3 inch by 1/4 , had them cut it to length for 50c or 1.00 and then they punched the square holes for the stove bolts for a dollar a hole. it worked great and think it all cost about 12.00 to 15.00 dollars

My repair . From the forum someone welded the key way by making a brass key and welding next to it . I did the same a friends son runs a welding shop and he tig welded it for me .The edges look a little rough but the key fits snug . I replaced the seal and I have a new hub.

Hello everyone. I am new to this entire "world". Not just WheelHorse, but GTs entirely. I have been researching and wanting one for a long time, mainly to plow snow for the neighborhood, but would love to restore it as well. Hopefully I will be picking up a 1975 C-160 tomorrow. Considering it is 40 yrs old...looks pretty good. I will post pictures when I get it. I live in the Peoria, IL area. Let me apologise ahead of time, but I will be in need of many answers. Until then, thanks. I am excited for tomorrow!!

Really excited about finding this great 854 last week. Planning on spending some time this fall getting her running nice and showing the K181 some love. Planning on restoring the old girl over the winter. I will post progress pictures here as I get the project under way.

Yes the deep side of the 4-8 speed trans will interchange...swap around a few bearing to switch the brake shafts around and you will be ready to go....as long as you have the same size axles...1" axles case from a 4-speed and a 1"axle 8-speed case will inter-change if you see were I am going....the case halfs themselves are machined different for the axle bearings for each axle....so an 1-1/8th axle case half from an 8-speed wont work on a 1" axle 4-speed..
  29. 2 points
OK, I brushed the moths off my credit card, and spent $35. Much easier to put up pictures now. I'm curious if anyone else has had problems with the trans plug. This is the second time I have flailed to get one out. I need to get a replacement plug, because this one will be destroyed when I finally get it out. I will take off all the tins this weekend to clean it up, and might even try a magic new product that I heard of recently...Wax! Throttle cable was installed improperly, RPM's 2500-4000. Will also have to reset the max RPM to 3600. Runs great despite the funky throttle, but seems to burn gas twice as fast as the other 520's (hard to imagine burning gas even FASTER than normal!) I see some carb adjusting in my future, but thankfully no cleaning.

I was just going to jump on the supporter thing but I see you have already became one . With those 4 bada$$ 520's and all those attachments we all know you can afford it I want to say some of the site vendors offer discounts to supporters too but maybe its all site members that im thinking of. Anyway really awesome herd you have there and glad we were able to see it via your uploaded photos.

Jack, Take a close look at the headlight fixture, you currently have two bulbs in it. The 5xi can actually take four bulbs, the extra two go to the outside of the existing ones. From the back of the fixture, there is probably a piece of tape over the lamp socket holes, as supplied by the factory. Order from Toro part number 95-7858 sidelight kit, and it will come with a wiring harness that wires into the existing harness, has the two new bulb sockets and bulbs. Installation time of about 10 minutes and you have double the light. I added it to both of my 5xi's when I had them, and was happy with the increased lighting. The kit is currently listed for $37.05 on jackssmallengines.com, but you should be able to order it from any Toro dealer. Hope this helps. Rick

Just 1 more thing to add to this thread of ND/Michigan schedules, ect...... As President of any college, it is not about education, it is about having enough funds to operate the college for years to come. How does that happen? NOT through scholastics when it comes to the top 25 NCAA ranked teams each year! It is sports. Every once in a while an Ivy League will grace the top 25 for a year. Then they are out of it for a LONG TIME. ABC/CBS/NBC/ESPN all have something to do with this now also. We all know the networks are giving back also to the colleges. SO for OSU and VT, ESPN Monday night football gave each college $1million minimum. Winner/loser the college walked away with $1million dollars. My speculation is more along the lines of $2 or 3 million. When you factor in Dish Network, last minute upgrades to the cable providers to see the game, and anything else that I may not be privy too, you can bet that each college did ok on Labor Day Monday Night Football! To a President that will help his budget for that year.... SO, when a team, regardless of schedule strength, receives a high ranking, it is going to draw networks to bid on the game also.....The networks are not locked into any game until that year. YES, they are locked into said contracts for so many ACC, SEC, BIG 10 PAC 12 games, but the networks can also bid for more games in the season..... SOOOOO, in the end, it all comes down to $$$$$$$$ for the college! Sad to say that, but it is.... Rob Oh shucks, I still have to get my picks in..... BTW, did anyone check the lines in Vegas for some of these games..... IF Hawaii covers the spread, someone could walk away with a BIG, and I am talking BIG pocket of cash!

Horse fixer, other than being a NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH HATER, what is your point? Why so much vitriol? Why waste so much time and effort RESEARCHING and POSTING all things "bad" about Notre Dame. How much time did you waste looking up, quoting, organizing, rough drafting and proofreading? Why did what started as a simple jibe back and forth evolve into a voluminous, hating post about Notre Dame?

It's amazing how much dust gets in behind the lens over the years from cutting grass. Just a simple job to pop it off and rinse the silt out. I had thought of sealing it but didn't bother as it is easy to do.

Dennis, I rolled the sheet metal, an inch at a time by gradually bending it in my Harbor Freight 40 dollar , 30 inch sheet metal brake. The hubs are 5 X 4.5 bolt pattern, 2 inches wide, sold on eBay as Jeep wheel spacers and the seat is just an ordinary EZ GO golf cart seat. Some things I can't make , lol
