7 pointsOk...maybe not Evel Knievel quality, but it'll get my tractors in and outa the shed. My old ramp rotted out and wasn't safe for a 600# plus tractor. Built this today with new pressure treated stringers and some sort of composite decking that was left over from a friends deck project. Before someone points it out, the stringers are not evenly spaced on purpose. stringer's #2 and #4 are 30" apart (just like the wheelbase of my tractors ) this keeps the weight of the tractor always over a stringer. I know this is a lame topic but hey....its what I did all day for my tractors! Mike.........

3 pointsOther than the gas tank I have only broke 3 bolts. I've had everything soaking for a couple months. It was so rusty I had to tear it totally down and find better pàrts. As soon as I finish my blast cabinet I will be ready to start cleaning tins, frame and wheels. I don't get much shop time and when I do I work with all the neckbreaking speed of a ruptured turtle.lol

3 pointsThanks Everyone. Didn't get a chance to work on this yesterday but did spend a little time on it this morning and got a few more parts blasted.

2 pointsI know Rick...RMCIII and Papaglide must love doughnuts in the basement. Looks like Michigan St. is going to have the Big Tens 1st victory this season...Illinois has a shot at having the 2nd Big Ten victory this season. Hey, I was just flicking around looking for football games...because Michigan St is 27 to 7 vs Western Michigan right now and the Illinois game does not start for another 1/2 hour. FS2 is replaying the Michigan at Utah game right now...so if you want to see Michigan loose for the 2nd day in a row...turn it on. It might be a long, long time before you get another chance like this. Sorry Bob...this cigar store Indian made me do it...gave me $5.

1 pointWell, i have wanted an old truck for many yrs. now. After driving Stevebo's 49 Chevy i decided it was time to start looking. After looking at a few trucks that weren't as described I was beginning to lose hope. This 65 popped up on Craigslist last night and it was less than an hr. away. Its all original with only 64,000 miles on it and it runs mint! I bought it off the second owner and he bought it off his friend who was the original owner. It has minimal rust for a 65 and no bondo on it! pretty darn good for a truck that has spent its entire life in CT. It will need new wood in the bed and some patches on the lower fenders but that is pretty much it. I'll also upgrade to a dual master cylinder. I plan to keep it all original. I took it out for a drive around the sellers neighborhood and it runs sweet!...She has a 6 cylinder with a three on the tree...

1 pointThe NFL season is upon us. I created this thread in memory of my all time favorite Chicago Bear and radio analyst Dougie Buffone who passed away several months ago. Gone will be his iconic classic rants after a Bears loss on 670 The Score in Chicago. Us Packer fans would tune in to Dougie and Ed after a Bears loss instead of listening to the Packers post game show every week. Radio comedy at it's finest! Here you can crow about your team or complain about your head coach's blunders. I'll be analyzing every week in my infamous Squonkese so no one will know what I'm talking about anyway. First the predictions AFC: East Bills fans have been all giddy. Pretty Boy Brady wasn;t going to play 4 games and Sexy Rexy was the coach. I told them 'don't count your chickens too fast. Bills defwense will be good but the offense will crash. Rex will be run out of town in 4 yrs. The Jets well the best thing about the Jets are their fans. They are the best. Too bad the NFL draft got moved out of NY. The Fans reaction to their pick was the best part. Dolphins will stink as well. Their arch enemy the Bills will hope Sue stomps on Brady. Pats will win the division like they always do AFC North: I call this the Stodgy division. All these teams put me to sleep. Big question can Big Ben make it through the year without getting hurt or arrested? Decent offense Ravens go as far as Flacco takes them. If he doesn't air it out another decent offense. Cincy can't beat The little Sister's of the Poor come playoff time. Dalton needs to change his hair color. 3 way toss up for the divison The Browns who I think will be better are the Browns. Can't catch a break but I'm pullin for them AFC South: All Colts but their defense is junk Titans will struggle with Mariota but he will become a good one. Texans will compete if Watt can play QB as well as TE Jags will win a couple but they are the Browns of the south AFC West: SD will be exciting with Rivers flinging the ball all over the place They will score alot and be scored on a lot My pick for the division Denver can win the division if they can come up with enough 10 yard passing plays for Manning. His arm is shot KC has a good chance and if Jamal Charles can run enough to keep the ball out of Alex Smith's hands they have a chance The Raidahs' used to be my favorite AFC team to watch. Especially against KC back in the Kenny Stabler days. A fight every 2 minutes! They have a good young QB and receiver and 1 linebacker. But not much else. Charles Woodson a great ex Packer is there but unless he can get some viagra it getting close to the end. NFC East. Eagles have the worst fans (They booed Santa) a whacky coach with a whacky offense. Best thing is Chipper doesn't care who he has to run out of town to win. Lot's of talent on O Defense will be gassed by the 4th game. If they score 50 they will win. Cowpukes kept the wrong free agent. Lot's more talented wideouts than running backs. O line can make any runner look good but for as good as they are Romo always get's killed. Defense does enough to win. My pick for the division. Giants Coughlin should have retired after the last Super Bowl win. Eli (The Great Gazoo) wants to be the highest paid player. He throws up so many wounded ducks the hunter would have a field day. The Skins are a mess. Enough said NFC North: Once again like every year, Viking fans think they are a lock to win the Super Bowl. NOT! 9-7 is what I see. Teddy Two Gloves is an upgrade over years past but can he avoid the sophomore jinx? The Child Beater will run rampant the first few games but a year off will start to show. The Loins (I spelled it that way on purpose) Will win a lot of games with smoke and mirrors just like last year. They will score a lot of points again but Stafford will challenge Cutler and Jamis Winston for the INT crown. Defense will miss Sue and Fairly. If they avoid dancing injuries they can contend. Dominic Riola will carry on with the Personal Foul title once again. The Bears will have a tough go of it. Forte is still their Forte. Best news for Jay is Winston will throw more INT's but a couple of pick sixes are a good bet. Bears cut Tim Jennings after they found out he sold his horseshoe to the Loins! Packers will win the division without Jordy. Rodgers can make Al Ernst look like a sleek wide receiver. Lacy will pound the rock Defense is shaky. Mathews getting a hangnail injury in crunch time is no good. Secondary is young and will get torched. Watch out for UDFA Ladarius Gunter though.Crosby is Money and the Ginger's punting is bad. Good thing they don't punt a lot. McCarthy is taking hold of the entire team. His new name Das Boot! NFC South: Junk division but a 3 way shoot out. Saints are so tight against the cap it's all down hill. Panthers have lost a lot of players already. Falcons have the best kicker in the league. Matty Ice needs to rely on good football and not throwing it up for grabs. My pick Riverboat Ron and Cam Bucs have a future turnover machine in Winston. Lovie will have the same look on his face that he has in Chicago NFC West. Rams with an all out defense and no offense. Will give teams fit and may hurt a few QB's along the way Cardinals have the coolest coach but a china doll playing QB. Forty Whiners are approaching Redskin status. Kaperklink has regressed back to a college QB. New coach won't be as entertaining on the sidelines as Hairball but his post game pressers should be epic Seachickens will win the division again. Pete Carrol will bite his tongue at some point with the gum chomping and highfives. Russel wilson will hand out his bottled water to his team mates but Lynch won't touch the stuff. Richard Sherman will be the new host of Family Feud In closing an epic Dougie Rant!

1 pointSo I was delayed preparing for trip to Indiana, the actual trip and then the recovery. I found a great new owner for the C195 and a new wheel horse friend. So well worth the trip. So I am just getting started back on the restomod. My power washer died so I can't blast the frame as I had wanted so while I sort that out, I have been blasting the odds and ends like 3 point assembly, mule parts, for multiple decks, wheel weights and I ordered a right side brake pedal for the foot hydro control I plan on using. I do not want anyone hitting hydro forward accidentally thinking they are hitting the brake. So first order of business was grinding off the lettering. Then building up the ridges so it will look stock, blast, prime and paint. Next up I have to restore the power washer to operation so unless it's a stuck valve, I may be delayed longer than I wish. Pic of pedal.....
-
1 pointdon't forget that the machinist will tell you what to order and before they machine you give them the parts

1 pointI had to buy a trailer off CL $700,U-Haul will not rent a trailer to tow behind a Ford Explorer even though mine is a 4WD/V-8 power, picked up a decent 5x9 with 2400lb axle,D160 W/FEL barely fit, hung over apps. 6 in and had to be dragged onto it backwards, rode great and didn't have any problems but would have preferred a larger trailer.

1 pointOMG...I understood squonk!!! Everything he said!!! It's 10:00PM on a Friday night on Labor Day Weekend and it is all there in Black and White!!! Usually, I have to read something like this 3 times to absorb the content...it only took twice...and the 2nd time was just to make sure it wasn't the Margaritas. I agree with you about losing Doug...a moment of silence please. DA BEARS

1 pointI hope you put up some pictures of that differential when you open it. It was nice talking with you tonight. Maybe give us a picture of that horse. Thanks.

1 pointLooks like a very re-buildable transmission to me. Bearings are usually stainless steel, or chrome steel and unless they are actually damaged, they will clean up nicely. If you do need bearings, most are still available with the exception of the 1533, and there are some good used ones of them available.

1 pointBills, Steelers, Colts, KC - Steeler Champs Packers, Falcons, Seahawks, Eagles - Eagles Champs wild cards too slippery to call but Denver, New England Miami and Cards, Rams Detroit all look like possibles. Super Bowl 50 - Pennsylvania Civil War of a type. Steelers win offensive shoot out.

1 pointI'm with you Mel. Some people don't have the appreciation for true antique machinery. I only wish I could find some Hit&Miss engines for reasonable prices. I do enjoy the garden tractors too but I have no problem shutting them off and just browsing around. Unfortunately the garden tractors are making up a bigger portion of the field every year. As the more and more older guys who have been collecting the old machinery and Hit&Miss engines for years die off, there aren't enough younger generation picking up the interest. I fear within 20 to 30 years they will become almost extinct. At least in this part of the country. As I have been traveling all over the country for the last few years camping, I have noticed that in the south and middle states, there is still a strong interest with the next generation and I only hope it stays that way. I am probably going to the fall show this year but I'm not bringing anything but a pocket full of cash to see what I can find in the vendors area .

1 pointThe crank pin, which is the part they measure, can be out of round. A simple measurement of just one spot on the pin can give you a false reading. The crank pin needs to be measured in at least two spots. The spot where the rod is sitting when the plug fires is going to tend to flatten out, giving you an undersize reading. If the measurement is taken at a spot 90° away from that spot, you may get a reading that is normal, making it look like there is no wear. So as Paul said, you should have the crank measured by the machinist that is going to do the work. He will know how to read it correctly, and grind it accordingly. Let him tell you what size rod you need.
-
1 pointIt can be seen in the video the starter gear is not "kicking" out. As stated above, a good cleaning and lube should have you running.
-
1 pointThis site is not allowing me to load any more pictures, why is that? Is there a limit to how many can be posted? But anyhow, all the "tricks" are very SIMPLE things anybody can buy anywhere. A freeze plug will shine up and make a nice center cap in a steering wheel if yours is missing, also , a freeze plug will make a nice gas cap cover , the front wheel hub grease caps will shine up and drive on snug to make a nicer than plastic grease cap, a piece of chrome bathroom drainpipe will make a beautiful exhaust pipe heat shield. A little aluminum flat stock will shine up and really look nice on a hood's grill. Just simple , ordinary things. Oh, Walmart sells those nice little headlights for $18.00 a pair. Maybe if another thread gets started it will let me post more pictures. But, the things that I do, anybody can do. I've shared a lot of these ideas on Facebook and the guys there love 'em.
-
1 pointIf that's all done with a rattle can then you have mastered the rattle can...LOOKS GREAT! Are the front rims different colors? Mike...........
-
1 pointJust have a few minor things left to do and then onto the 42" SD deck. A few of the changes I made to simplify things include eliminating the rubber motor mounts and the separate brake pedal. The clutch pedal is also the brake like the older models are set up. I noticed that the lift handle on my C is too far back and sticks out so far that it rubs against my leg and forces me to hold my leg at an unconformable angle. I would really like to swap out the steering tower for the simpler and narrower older style like my 857 has. I think it looks better too. Sometimes engineers should leave well enough alone.
-
1 pointIMO... Techys are good motors...(regardless of their popularity or comparisons). The carbs are less forgiving in the department of letting dirt specs and such pass thru them. If you keep the carb clean, she'll run very well. I install an in-line fuel shutoff, and in-line fuel filter on almost anything small motor I own. I run it dry when I park it for a while. Never a problem. Good luck with it.
