17 pointsA few of you know I'm in the North of England - UK. I've just moved further North into the Yorkshire dales. (think Harry potter) - Look up James Herriott and malham cove It's taken over a year since we saw the place to selling ours and the money exchanging hands. Here's a few pics of the Horses in their new home and also put to work. Once I get internet and the time I've some videos too

7 pointsHello everyone, First time wheel horse owner and thought I would introduce myself. Just bought a C105 with mower deck, wheel weights & chains, and snow blade attachment. A great do all tractor for my property. Runs like a top, but thought it would be a great fall/winter restoration project. I am so glad I found this forum. It is full of great information and knowledgeable individuals. Thank you everyone! Bacdo.

6 pointsMight be they were thinkin... one day, a squonk is gonna come along, that will need a good project?
-
4 pointsIf it's just aluminum on the crank journal, and I'm guessing it is, hydrochloric/muriatic acid will take it off. Outside job! But brush some on, then some more until... Crank might polish out without turning it!
-
3 pointsBest to post some pics of your machine to get accurate information about that particular tractor.
-
3 pointsWhat's the compression? You need 3 things to run. You have spark and fuel. did you check compression? Maybe a valve too tight and hanging open or sticking. Did you take the motor apart?

3 pointsIf you aim for mediocrity, that's usually the highest you will hit. Might as well be ambitious. keep us posted

2 pointsHoward did they look like these? Bud Makes these. He's working on a Hot Rod Horse now but when he's done I hope to get some from him when he makes more.
-
2 pointsI think I found a 56, but not sure. Is there any other differences between the 55 and the early 56 ?
-
2 pointsStarting to get the winter sheet metal ready for Ezra. Got another hood and it's complete except someone decided to paint the headlight lens and hood ornament. Why do people do this?
-
2 points@kudzu3 Just passing on what another friend taught me! What we are here for! That bearing/journal looses lubrication, heats, expands and eventually grabs so tightly that it won't turn any more. Bad thing because something breaks but unless the crank was scored before, it's usually ok. Good luck with it! Fingers crossed!
-
2 pointsthink of it this way, maybe if they didn't re spray it the bonnet/hood would be all pitted and rusty. someone repainted my bonnet with the complete wrong colour and used a door mat as a brush! (at least that's what it looks like) good luck with the clean up callum
-
2 pointsYou MAY be able to save that lens.. New are about $40. Use a little bit of lacquer thinner to dissolve the paint. If you scratch the lens, slowly sand out the scratch with 1000 grit sand paper....then buff it with crocus cloth
-
2 pointsBringing home your first means... you're definitely going to need more storage space.
-
2 pointsJim, I did that for the benefit of all you Wisconsin guys that put up with us Illinois guys that come to Wisconsin deer hunting. I have known farmers that paint COW on their cows so they don't get shot by those FIBS I have had the opportunity to spend many a summer on the farms of my relatives up by Turtle Lake, Wis. doing hay, corn, beans, milking cows...etc. My first love was an Alis Chalmers. I have always thought that when these Wheels Horses grow up and ripen...they turn orange. BTW...I can tell the difference between the smell of dairy, pigs and sheep...I really like the smell of a pig farm...that is my favorite. But, you just have to love the English country side that Meadowfield is showing us...fantastic pictures.
-
2 pointsPlease Please tell us you are Steve! .....I certain could fill that storage with my horse hoarding...

2 pointsYes, I go through at least 6 bags, maybe more - I do the large pieces outside and cant recover it. Heh, I have a pretty large area around the corner of the shop that has this strange looking black stuff everywhere
-
2 pointsJust note that even Black Diamond at 8.00 a bag can add up if you are blasting with a can or outside and not capturing/recycling the media.
-
2 pointsS/Jim Nice looking commando 6. I know people do not like these little tecky`s. But over time I have grown fond of these little tractors. The most of the problems deals with the carbs anyway. But they are cheap to replace. If I was closer I would be knockin` on your door. Enjoy it. Gary B.....

2 pointsAnd more CFM with a too small compressor means a compressor that doesn't keep up and doesn't shut off. Lots of good info here: http://www.tptools.com/

1 pointAlrighty everyone, Im starting this build log early. Will try to update as soon as possible but the farm is hectic since harvest will be starting in about 3 weeks. I barely have time for anything these days. I bought this raider 12 for my engine overhaul class coming up in October. I will be performing almost everything in the shop at the college. But I will get some things done in these next few weeks when I can. I will put a list on here since I myself am very forgetful lol. But anyways onto some pics to hold you all over and a list of what will be done. Future upgrades and Parts already obtained: -Lug nut conversion -Completely repainting the whole unit flat black besides the hood (will respray copper with a high gloss clear) and maybe do some body work. - Paint a couple accents with Sea Foam Green - Pin stripping on some parts (hood, belt protector panel, rear end behind seat) -Custom old school headlights -LED tail light in place of old tail light -Custom gas tank (If I can find one) -Extend shifter 4-5" with a custom shift knob (thinking about a beer tap or a piston) -Some kind of knob for the high/low shifter -Find some sort of seat -Build a panel for the shifter and a block off plate for the hood where the headlights used to be. (Going with the brushed aluminum look) -Maybe add some LED of CCFL tubes (white) for a little extra lighting - Redo most of the wiring and clean it all up so it looks presentable (May even try to hide the wiring for a cleaner look) -Try to find wider rear wheels or a wider tire with a shorter sidewall (having trouble with this one) -Find new front tires similar to whats on it now Motor wise its not the factory motor. Its a Briggs 8hp. I have been scouring craigslist for a bigger motor but if I cant find one then I will settle with the 8hp. -Completely tear down and clean the whole motor (maybe paint with hi temp black as well) -Rebuild motor (Gaskets and all) -Rebuild or clean carb (Possibly get a newer carb) -Add open air cleaner similar to a cold air intake -Clean and polish exhaust stack And last but not least the lowering/suspension parts -Re do the front end. Its a hack job. I don't like it at all. -Figure out how low I want the rear. Measure, Measure, Measure lol. I am thinking of just doing somewhat of a 3-4" body drop. -Clean up the trans axle (I know it wont be seen but still haha) Been tossing around the idea with a couple friends of somehow incorporating air ride into the suspension. I'm thinking I will either spend way too much on the whole thing or get way too far in over my head and never finish the project. But I will still try to figure out how to fabricate such a crazy idea someday. I plan on keeping this for quite a while so who knows. Never seen a mower period with air ride. Would be pretty cool but I would have to rebuild EVERYTHING to do such a thing. But who knows with me. If I come up with any other mods a long the way I will add them. I will take pics throughout the whole process. For here and for the class so I can make sure I document everything. Thanks for checking out my build log.....If you have any suggestions go ahead and throw them up in here. I'm open to hearing them all. I know this is a lot to read through but I'm also keeping this as a way to remember what I wanted to do! I will also go out to the farm tomorrow and get a bunch of pics of the whole thing for you guys!

1 pointNice meats . I did the same with mine . Lookin good & welcome to the fold .
-
1 pointThat lens is worth saving by carefully removing the paint over spray. It looks to be the genuine older lens rather than the newer decal lens. Those are very hard to find without cracks.
-
1 point"Why do people do this?" Uhhhhh. Lazy, don't give a darn, stupid, I could go on.........
-
1 pointI guess I'm NOT going to part out the Commando. My wife thought it was "cute", and any positive comments from her about my hobby has to be encouraged. I'm going to put on a Techy 6hp that I have laying around, and use it for plowing. I kind of like the short frame look also. Jim

1 pointWelcome to the forum. Here is what you should be seeing. Go to your post at the bottom you should see options click on edit and at bottom after entering any text you should see click the text and you should be able to choose photos. THey will load into a queue. You then have to hit the PLUS sign in upper left of queued photo.if this is not the case your challenge may be due to limitations on not being a "Forum Supporter". Being a Forum Supporter opens or frees up photo options quite a bit.

1 pointNot counting the time it took to acquire the gaskets, decarboning and valve adjustment took about 2 hours.

1 pointI have the Wet Blasting attachment and it works well. Although you will have to occasionally unclog the nozzle. Just note that I would use a dust mask to insure non inhalation. While I would like to assume that spraying with the water would completely negate the possibility of inhaling silica, the negative consequences can be dramatic. Note, that when you wet sand blast, you have to deal with flash rust either by drying and priming immediately or treat with Rust cutter or something. This drops the cost 3-4 bucks a bag, and not black. Precautionary note: There are those who advocate play sand for air blasting to reduce costs, There are also those who warn against it for health reasons and I suggest you read up on the potential hazards and choose for yourself.

1 pointYes you can should only need a pick to get the old one out and a piece of PVC pipe to drive the new one in Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk Make sure there is no up and down play in the crank bearing Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

1 pointDon't forget about K&L Carriers. Very inexpensive, drop-gates and they go to homes.
-
1 pointNot much experience with Hydros either, but two thoughts.... Is the pulley / shaft key OK ? Is there any radial movement in the shaft that would indicate the bearings are bad ?
-
1 pointReason I was asking is if you are looking for a good comfortable no-nonsense tractor I was going to recommend a 312-8. Find one of those with low hours and you've got something good.

1 pointI pulled the motor out of the 161 today, I was surprised as I think it is lighter than the 10 hp ?? the starter motor is in need of some tlc but I'm using the other one, as well as a few other bits n pieces. I also gave the red a second coat after flattening off. Plus painted one wheel.
