With the theme for 2016 being customs, I want to discuss with the WHCC board the following idea, but want to get your thoughts first. The RedSquare Challenge A month prior to the WHCC show, we will post on WHCC FaceBook page, WH Junkies (assuming both allow us to) as well as RedSquare that we will be accepting applications for 2 teams. Each team will consist of 2 to 6 talented guys. Each team will be given $250 and all of Friday to build a custom WH right at the show. At 6:00pm on Friday evening, the builds complete and the RedSquare members vote for the winner of the build. They need to be complete (not missing an engine) but do not need to run (after all it's only $250) The winning team keeps the tractor while the losing team forfeits their creation for the Saturday raffle. Teams will be able to purchase, barter or be given parts for their build but they can NOT source the parts themselves. Receipts need to be provided and they are encouraged to spend all the money, but any leftover is given back to RedSquare. All parts must come from the show vendors. Anyone is eligible to enter the contest, however voting is exclusive to RedSquare members. @kj4kicks and @BPjunk maybe you guys can give this some thought as well and if it sounds good talk with the Collectors Club?

Being all caught up in the WH mania, I forgot and left my camera in the truck... so these are the picts my Mrs Rules captured. Here's the prodigy himself, Jake Kuhn...and his meticulously restored RJ and 401 Mrs Buckrancher(Jo) and Jay Holt(JayinNC) just before the start of Friday's WH parade. The Squonk(Mike), JayinNC(Jay), and myself(AMC RULES) checking my Mrs Rules new A-81 mower purchase. The reason why everyone calls me Bob at the show...Me and Trouty56(Bob)hamming it up. The RJ-35 guru himself VinsRJ(Vin)diggin' my new "Where's Craig" shirt. Steveasaurus, Jusgettingby, Racinbob, Trouty56, and myself all just chewin' the fat here. Me with the stainless steel master himself...Buckrancher(Brian) Mrs&Mr Woodchuckfarmer(Wayne)enjoying a cruise with one of their adorable granddaughters. Me and that Clintonut(Charlie)caught doing a little catch up. End of the day...Me& the Zeek after successfully loading up the Cheese Grater. ...and finally, a new RedSquare member here...Mrs Rules waving bye, as she rides off into the sunset on her new A-81 mower. I just wanted to say thanks again to all of my wonderful RedSquare family who gather every year at the big WHCC and help to make it such a glorious event.

I'm thinking, 10 of 'em is enough for now Vin... might consider bringing home one of them gorgeous '35's you got though. Just let me know whenever you're ready. 10? I demand a recount!

I am a board member for the WHCC. I can't speak for them as a group, but I can bring it up to the board via telephone and let you know the response. Since their only involvement would be getting a free tractor to add to the raffle, I can't see there being any problem. I know that they don't want any voting or awards at the show (by WHCC members) but if RedSquare wanted to do something on their own, and stay within their own ranks, well.... How the members of RedSquare pick their teams, etc, is up to them. The only other thing I could think of is that if any paint is going to be sprayed, take it out to the field to do that. We certainly don't want any over spray flying around! On a personal note, since I am a member of the WHCC board, I will not be able to participate in the contest. I don't want to raise any issues about "conflict of interest" , and I also have to be available at all times in case something comes up that needs handled at the show. It sounds like a fun idea! I'll do my best lobbying and I'll let everyone here know when I get an answer.

The Apple Country Antique Engine and Tractor show near Asheville NC is October 22 to 24. Early October sounds like a great time to have a WH gathering without conflicting with other shows. Looking forward to it.

I am good to go as of right now on all weekends in October except for the 17th and 30th.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum but I was lurking around researching before I bought my first Wheelhorse a couple of weeks ago. I bought a 520h and am really impressed with it. I don't know what year it is but it has the swept front axle.

Hey guys and gals, new Wheel Horse fan here. Been around them for years just haven't had the privilege of owning one yet. My brother is a member and an Wheel Horse fan known as Bert here as well as my mom known as Linder here. So I am joining the family and building my own Horse to play with, a Commando 6 to start. But I hear that they are like Lay's potato chips you can't just have one. So here's to the start of my new hobby!

With all the rain we have been getting progress has been not as fast as i'd like it to be. So, I will be taking the boat to work and work on it real early in the morning and late at night in a 7000 square foot warehouse that is empty. Shoot, I might even just sleep there.. I do have the bottom repairs done and three coats of red done. The sides were sanded all the way down and 8 coats of varnish applied, Might do a few more coats.. Topside was taken down and one coat of white applied.. Topside will take a bit of time as there is quite a bit of masking off to do around the parts that aren't painted. Also need to repaint the inside and some varnish work there as well. Then, its off to the upholstery shop!

Fantastic news, and thank you Eldon. It would be a RedSquare vote only (hey, we gotta get something out of it too ) and when we come up with the rules, it will include NO PAINTING because not just the overspray, but there's enough exhaust fumes don't need to add paint thinner to that as well. Let me think on this for a little bit, and start to put something together. The theme will work out perfect custom theme and custom builds. Thank you again for bringing this to the club, I think it will be a fun event to see.

Hey guys, great news !! It's a GO. Just talked to WHCC president Billy Albright, and board member Charlie Culley, and both agreed that it would be not only fun to watch, but greatly appreciated by the WHCC. Nothing in the by-laws of the club says that we can't accept a donor tractor. (All of the other raffle prizes are donated by members and supporters anyhow). As I thought, their only stipulations are that the voting remain within RedSquare members only, and no spray painting in the show area. We also need to be careful of flying sparks and debris. They also offered the use of a building or a large area in the infield (if someone has a LARGE canopy) to use. Both areas have access to 20Amp electricity just in case you need to fire up some grinders, small air compressors, or a 110v welder. (Hint hint) All right RedSquare, let's see what you've got!

that horse will pull that trailer no problem, can't see if it has a braking hitch on it(can't find a better way to say it) if it has braking won't be that much of a problem either. just to give you an example of the pulling these horse's do, mine will pull a bigger trailer than that that's on handbrake, and i have a 4 speed with the 1" axle's. oh and welcome to

I would look for the 1 1/8" axles like Garry mentioned, but I dont think it will be a deal breaker. When you go to look at it, make sure you can smoothly shift into all gears (high and low as well). With what you are looking to do, you cant get much better than the 8 speed transmission that comes on these. I would look for a heavy duty hitch (see http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/132-rupprechts-welding-and-fab-the-hitch-guys/ for a great example, maybe you can even have one shipped!) Your ground looks fairly flat and level, so you should be alright, but just understand when you are towing that trailer you are WAY beyond any recommended tow capacity and your ability to stop will be GREATLY diminished (forget about stopping on any incline). I would most definitely look at getting weights on front and rear and high traction tires on the back. Also when you get it, throw a new drive belt at it and make sure the hubs are flush with the end of the axles and the set screws are tight. One of the most common problems when you start putting a lot of force on it is to shear the woodruff key on the axle because the setscrews werent tight enough. Check for any leaks or up-down/side-side play at the rear axles and replace seals (or bearings if there is play) if necessary. Check and change the transmission gear oil and check the shifter boot. Many times these rot away and let the transmission fill with water. All these are just the extra things I would do in addition to regular preventative maintenance (oil, grease, etc) since you are planning to really work it. Heres the owners manual (3 parts) for the 1988 model. It should be very similar to the one you are getting, but we will have the correct one for the year once you know what it is. Yes that tractor will do all the task you would be asking it to do. My only concern would be the trailer. It will pull it with no problem, the only thing that would concern me is that the trailer in the picture is a lot of trailer and stopping it might be a bit much. If your on level ground and have no concerns about having to stop or hold the trailer on a hill then there should not be a problem. The 312 compared to the tractor in the picture is way more tractor. The tractor you have now is a lawn tractor and the 312 is a garden tractor and way heavier built.

I know a retired guy that Stevebo and I are friends with that could smoke most of the young guys so age is not an excuse. It's just a state of mind and if you let it get to you then that's how you'll be. With that said, I'd be game to be involved. I'll take KenB, Charlie & SteveBo for my team!

Yeah...the short bus.

Locate the screw on the carb that is at an angle, not the one directly on top. Turn this to adjust idle mixture. That is after you clean the carb. I personally reommend the Berrymans Chem dip. It is not what it used to be due to the VOC's being reduced but it still works well. Also see if there is play in the throttle shaft. A loose, worn throttle shaft will not allow for proper idle mixture setting. You can adjust all day and not get it right.

That reminds me of the time we took ours to the mechanic we trusted the most with our 'Vair for a tune-up. This guy Charlie was really good, and knew these cars inside and out. When we picked it up, he took me aside, smiled and proudly said "She'll see three numbers". And she did, more than once.

Yee-haw! Got it back together and on and shifts like it should. Went smoothly, only trick was the oil seals because the axles wouldn't center in the housing. There was roughly 1mm clearance on the other side and 3,5-4mm on the other. Very hard to squeeze them in without breaking the seal. Had not the correct size pvc-pipe so I just used whatever tools and pipes I had. But seemed like the the pvc-pipe would be the way to go. Put 10/30 engine oil in an drove 15min without leaks. Still to change the the oil to thinner one. So all good, and very grateful to You guys! What a great big family we have here. Stevesaurus have you visited Finland already? And Lars and I could meet in Lapland to catch some salmon.. Tom

Some of the ipl's list the 111199 bearing as having a 40mm ID. Did a search using that number and low and behold I find a site that list a 111199 bearing as a SKF 6008 ball bearing. The dimensions listed are 1.5748" ID = 40mm 2.6772" OD = 68mm .5906" wide = 15mm Good chance that is the correct replacement. Garry Adding 1.500" = 38.1mm 2.500" = 63.5mm
