6 pointsWith the theme for 2016 being customs, I want to discuss with the WHCC board the following idea, but want to get your thoughts first. The RedSquare Challenge A month prior to the WHCC show, we will post on WHCC FaceBook page, WH Junkies (assuming both allow us to) as well as RedSquare that we will be accepting applications for 2 teams. Each team will consist of 2 to 6 talented guys. Each team will be given $250 and all of Friday to build a custom WH right at the show. At 6:00pm on Friday evening, the builds complete and the RedSquare members vote for the winner of the build. They need to be complete (not missing an engine) but do not need to run (after all it's only $250) The winning team keeps the tractor while the losing team forfeits their creation for the Saturday raffle. Teams will be able to purchase, barter or be given parts for their build but they can NOT source the parts themselves. Receipts need to be provided and they are encouraged to spend all the money, but any leftover is given back to RedSquare. All parts must come from the show vendors. Anyone is eligible to enter the contest, however voting is exclusive to RedSquare members. @kj4kicks and @BPjunk maybe you guys can give this some thought as well and if it sounds good talk with the Collectors Club?

3 pointsI didn't even get to go to the show, but I bought a tiller from @HokieAg07 and got delivered to the show and @KC9KAS was swinging close by on his way home and brought it back for me! Thanks guys! Awesome people in this hobby!

2 pointsBeing all caught up in the WH mania, I forgot and left my camera in the truck... so these are the picts my Mrs Rules captured. Here's the prodigy himself, Jake Kuhn...and his meticulously restored RJ and 401 Mrs Buckrancher(Jo) and Jay Holt(JayinNC) just before the start of Friday's WH parade. The Squonk(Mike), JayinNC(Jay), and myself(AMC RULES) checking my Mrs Rules new A-81 mower purchase. The reason why everyone calls me Bob at the show...Me and Trouty56(Bob)hamming it up. The RJ-35 guru himself VinsRJ(Vin)diggin' my new "Where's Craig" shirt. Steveasaurus, Jusgettingby, Racinbob, Trouty56, and myself all just chewin' the fat here. Me with the stainless steel master himself...Buckrancher(Brian) Mrs&Mr Woodchuckfarmer(Wayne)enjoying a cruise with one of their adorable granddaughters. Me and that Clintonut(Charlie)caught doing a little catch up. End of the day...Me& the Zeek after successfully loading up the Cheese Grater. ...and finally, a new RedSquare member here...Mrs Rules waving bye, as she rides off into the sunset on her new A-81 mower. I just wanted to say thanks again to all of my wonderful RedSquare family who gather every year at the big WHCC and help to make it such a glorious event.

2 pointsOkay, I'm going to be the old wet blanket. Here is the drawback as I see it. A similar idea was floated a couple years ago to have repair seminars and fix it/build it challenges. Though it sounded good, it never got traction. Mainly because there are only so many hours that you can spend at the show. I personally like to participate in or watch the parades, walk around taking pictures, looking, buying, selling, and talking with friends without having to be engaged in a time consuming project. I do not want to spend my time building a tractor. I do that 6 months out of the year before the show so that I can relax at the show. Just my 2 cents worth.

2 pointsI have a 50" grader. Our vacation home has a 1/4 mile shared gravel drive. The blade does an amazing job cleaning up after the snow plow every spring. I've cut through grass and dirt. It takes multiple passes to do so. And go slow. If you're traveling to fast and it grabs something it'll cause you to lose control fast. I did prefer it on a manual lift vs my current hydro. Most manual tractors have a depth adjustment screw. It definitely did a better job keeping the road grade consistent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Buddy wanted his hat so he gave it to him lol This is the gentleman that came by to see him........I think Buddy remembered him from 2 yrs ago Getting everything set up and looking handsome.............Taylor was looking cute to... had another friend stop by and see Buddy, she met him 2 yrs ago also and was hoping he would be here..........I think he likes her this sweet little girl just wanted to give him kisses................. he loves our granddaughter Taylor........................

2 pointsEven with hydro you can't get enough weight and traction to really cut. It will never perform like a road grader. The grader blade is great for spreading out loose stuff. You can make several passes and skim off some material on each pass but as far as cutting down, you just don't have enough machine. Wonderful implement for driveways unless they are solidly packed. You may have to break up the gravel first.

2 pointsLast night I plopped the engine on my C-165 that I bought from Bill Jenkins at the show. What an awesome guy to deal with, It runs like a Swiss watch, Bills word is GOLD. He gave me a great deal on it as well! Its amazing how nice a shaker plate can be when you have an engine without serious internal headaches as my original 16 has.. I'll tear into my old engine this winter when I have more time... Right now the grass needs cuttin!

My brother is a member and an Wheel Horse fan known as Bert here as well as my mom known as Linder here. So I am joining the family and building my own Horse to play with, a Commando 6 to start. But I hear that they are like Lay's potato chips you can't just have one. So here's to the start of my new hobby!

1 pointThe winner of the raffle tractor was Sharon Fullerton of Victor, New York just outside Rochester. She and her husband Bob and son Jay are BIG WH collectors and are happy to add the 656 to their corral. Unfortunately they did not have room so must return to pick up the new filly. It was pouring when they drew the number and Sharon was still there to enjoy the thrill. PS: On Thursday the weather forecast for Saturday was sunny and 81. Duh!

1 pointWe could give better answers if we knew what you are trying to do. Gravel drive? Needs a scarfer to loosen it first. Level an area of your yard? Tilling it first is the best method may need to till several times between scraping if taking it down very far.

1 pointYup, Bill is a great guy and stands by his word. I grabbed a 520hc off of him a week before the show and at the show I bought a 48" snow plow from him that looked like new almost. Being so close to Bill has started to effect my bank account. Seriously though, its nice when I need a part like a hub and I can go grab one. Thanks Bill! I grabbed a bunch of maint. stuff like filters , headlight buckets, clutch springs, even found a filter for the 520hc which I now know that the filters is the same size as the onan 24hp motors. I also came across a nelson muffler that was like new. Not a spot of rust on it and got it for twenty bucks. The neck is cracked but so what. A few minutes with the welder and it will be like new again. Couldnt believe knowone else snagged that up. Sorry didnt get to meet more of you. The girlfriend wasnt feeling so well and we had to get going to let the puppy out , he was happy to see us!

1 pointYes you have to push on the lever for down pressure. If you want to lift the tractor off the ground like Lane, you need hydraulics.

1 pointMike the only thing that worked for me was heat yea you waste the nylon bushing but you can work around that and punch out the roll pin. And your done. I guess W/Horse never heard of Never Seize. I use this for all assembly work.Enjoy the ride. Gary B.....

1 pointGentlemen, I have been working since late April on a refresh of a 417-8 I picked up. 1280 hours and it was in pretty good mechanical shape but was getting pretty rusty. (It wasn't left outside it's whole life but it was outside some). The idiot lights worked except for the Parking Brake Light but.after putting this back together, all I have is the oil pressure light that works off the test switch and before starting. Nothing from the others. Observations: When I hit the test switch with the key off, the oil pressure light comes on and I also get 12.5 volts through the volt gauge. Again, this is with the key off. My 416-8 Onan won't even test without the switch on but then again, that thing was haywired when I got it and I have no other tractor with the idiot lights to compare to. Ground is good or I wouldn't get the oil pressure light. I handled that circuit board like a mercury switch hooked to a bomb so I don't think I knocked anything loose. I cleaned all the connectors before re-installing. The parking light didn't work because the little seed lamp is missing. While you are pondering that, I noticed the headlights are 50 watt halogens. My others are 35 watt non-halogen. Are we cool with the 15 more watts on the headlight circuit? Oh and what is the replacement bulb for the tail lights. (Push in bulb reminds me of the old flash bulbs of the 60's). I have one out and nothing to steal from! It's turning out decent. I still need to change out tires, paint the rims and hubs and get my seat back from a local upholstery shop. Thanks!

1 pointNice seat.That seat style came out in 1970 and it is correct for your tractor. All 1975 "C" models came with that seat. The hub caps seam to end in 1973 but still make your C160 look good.

1 pointBreather appears to be fine. Theres no oil seepage there and the dipstick doesn't blow out either. I guess Im pulling the head and hoping its thats simple. I have resurfaced the head from the K-91 on my boys Suburban 400. It wasn't seeping oil like this thing is. I guess I'll check the cylinder while I have the head off and check for polishing as well

1 pointI would probably remove the head and check it for flatness -- on a really flat surface like a pane of glass or a table saw bed, you shouldn't be able to get a .003" feeler under it. Somewhere here on RedSquare, there's instructions for how to flatten the head, it's not hard, just a little time-consuming. I would plan to replace the gasket as well. -------- EDIT: Here's one of the threads I was thinking about: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/38803-how-to-renew-cylinder-head-gasket-sealing-surface/ -------- You might also have excessive oil pressure in the crankcase, have you checked the breather assembly? Are there any other leaks that you know of?

1 pointIm working on one but its a long term and cash project (LiFePo4 batteries = $$$$$). With the awesome variable speed capabilities of electric (100% torque at practically 0 rpm) I would be using a geared trasmission to maximize drivetrain efficiency and a foot pedal control of motor speed.

1 pointI've had this B for quite a few years now, and it's been my constant go to, and ALWAYS starts and is able to do everything I need it to, even when ... it probably shouldn't - haha With that being said, it's time that my favorite gets some TLC. It's going to be slow going ... as I'm still using it as my go to tractor. Sheet metal first - then I'll do the frame and other bits while the motor is at the machine shop. Will be using Base/Clear urethane and High build primer (its much more forgiving on the small imperfections when I block it out to be sure its straight) Pictures! Started with the seat pan ... It is in great shape just the paint is WAY tired so I'm just hitting it with some 60 grit paper on the DA. Geno media blasted this hood for me a week ago, Sandblasting profiles the metal so I had to run the DA over it too, but it's come out alright ... there are quite a few dents that need to be fixed but nothing 'major' - unlike the original hood. It's just in a self etching primer to allow me to bodywork it. Stay Tuned for more!
