6 pointsHi Folks, Today I rescued a wheel horse from being weighed in for scrap, I have had a quick look around it and it needs a coil but other than that it seems complete and in fair condition. I put 12 volts on it and the engine turned over so if I have some "me time" soon I will try to get it running Not bad for a freebie I am thinking
-
3 pointsI want to restore this beauty to its original glory! Where do I start? Can anyone id the year and model? Also, I am sure that the engine is not the original, so, what kind of engine was originally on it and where can I get my hands on one. Thanks to all that can help! Pics are attached

3 pointsI don't think they ever offered a 48" rear discharge. 42"s were both side and rear, but 48"s were side only. Easiest way to distinguish between the two is where the mower height adjustment lever is. 42"s were on the right, 48"s were on the left.

2 pointsHere are some pictures of a GT 1100 I am making narrow. The tractor isn't pretty but it runs well so I figured it as a good candidate. I still have to get the hood back on and clean up everything then paint it but here are some pictures. I used a 90* steering gearbox from a bus.

2 pointsMy sandblaster got these tins turned around in less than 1 day. Picked them up after work today and got them in primer. There is a bit of bodywork required before I paint. I just ordered more valspar hardener. By the end of the weekend I hope to have it ready for paint.

2 pointsI moved a massive pile of mulch, and half of a large pile of dirt. Probably 10 yards of mulch, and 4 yards of dirt so far. Mods, if this is in the wrong area, feel free to move it, and I apologize.

2 pointsWell, 124 deg F in the weld shop today at 1PM, but we got the frame for the roof done. Tomorrow we will do the legs and attach it to the horse...then its off to the canvas babe for some wheel horse red Sunbrella!!!

2 pointsI am looking for some old car license plates. Koen (C-101plowerpower), in the Netherlands, has a friend that has a drinking establishment and is looking to decorate it with that kind of stuff...no money here...just donations...but appreciate the help. I would take them at the show and mail them to Koen. Thanks

2 pointsThat will work muz123 but it's not the one they listed for a 520. I used that same model for years on a couple of C-series (same attachment mounting). That simply hooks to the mid mount and connects to the lift. I used a rod direct to the lift bar rock shaft and not the lift bar. That way I could 'power' down. I also welded a bar on the front of it so it would connect to the rear slot hitch. It's simplistic compared to the model Butch is referring to but it works well.

2 pointsYou want something like this.Look for that manual in the manual section. It's on page 6 under plows. Blade Grader Pushed 50in 1993-1994 79351 OM IPL.pdf

2 pointsIt worked amazing! I just cut a little slit for a screw driver in the end of the broken bolt and did the battery thing and it came right out! Thanks so much Garry! I am not worried about the broken off ear on the cast iron case. Here's the video. https://youtu.be/9eICuoKmLeQ

2 pointsWell I tend to be somewhere betwixt and between. I feel that I have been blessed in life and while some of that is due to my effort and luck of the draw, a much greater amount of credit goes to my maker. So I try to pay it forward as much as I can. As such, I will loan stuff using a triage scale. If I am using said item or will soon need to, then no loan is made, but then the scale softens. But as others have mentioned, there are those who you know will treat it appropriately and unfortunately those who you feel or know lack skill, caution or integrity. In those latter cases I am much less generous. But as I see most things in my life as loaned to me by my maker, then I treat them as a wise steward.

2 pointsI really only want to take two tractors to the show this year but I think I might just have to stuff the 420 into the back of the van (which I hate to do as its awful clean in there) and put my sons 854 on the trailer along with the Suburban. I bought the 854 off Buckrancher at the Big Show 3 yrs. ago for my son Cole. Haven't had to do a thing to it other than keep it clean and change the oil... She does cut the grass every once in a while, hauls fire wood every now and again and makes the rounds at all the local shows.

1 pointToday Was going to be a cool day compared to the heat wave that we have had for the last week. With a bit more than a week to go for the "Big Show," I decided to stain the floor of my new trailer. Went early to buy the materials and came home to scrub the floor clean. I was just finished and was walking down the ramp when one foot slipped and the other leg ended up under my butt. I then fell the rest of the way to the ground. PAIN! I ended up laying there for a short time while I gathered my wits. My right knee and ankle didn't feel quite right. I called my wife at work to tell her (1-1/2 hour away) and then tried my neighbor as the other two neighbors weren't home. No answer, so after about fifteen minutes, I decided to try and stand. I was able to get up but my right foot didn't move with my leg. Uh Oh! Hobbled in to put ice on it when my neighbor called back. She came over to bandage me and stayed while my wife came home. A trip to Urgent Care to find out that I have broken my fibula. Tomorrow I go see the Orthopedic surgeon for the prognosis. At this point I am certain that I will not be able to drive to the show. Darn!!! If I can be mobile, I'm hoping that "Mrs. Sailor" could drive me up for Friday. Ironically I was going to mix anti-slip sand into the stain.

1 pointI just bought this wheel horse today for $100. It looks to be in decent shape(not rusted through anywhere). I am not sure what model it is. The model tag has the numbers ripped off so I could not read it. It would be very helpful to know the model before the restoration. If you have any clues that would be great.

1 pointExactly correct although some farms do not plow everything and use just the disc and broad seed or use a seed drill. Normally we plow the entire farm in the spring (after spreading manure) then disc the ground to smooth the soil then plant, then cultivate sometimes with the second crop we just disc and then replant or broad seed (as with turnips etc).

1 pointSteve, here is the plate. Black and yellow one on the left

1 pointI'm thinkin' that maybe the hard hat's going to stay right here in Maryland. Who'da have thought that when you were up here last Friday, that could have just taken the Red Hard Hat home with you.

1 pointSomeone gave me a 1986 308-8 wheel horse that didn't run. Today I drained all of the fluids, pulled and cleaned the carburetor, pulled the gas tank and replaced gas lines and clamps. I pulled the starter and replaced a missing spring under one of the brushes. Re-gapped the spark plug. Reassembled everything and it fired up!! Gave it a quick wipe down after taking it for a spin in the rain. I'm excited to degrease and pressure wash the frame!

1 pointGot ya one Dino! Remind me to give it to you Wednesday. Also we've been Geo-caching and I found you a few critters!
-
1 pointJust as a side note to one of your concerns: the V61's in the smaller size are 6ply, so they will have zero problem with the extra weight of the diesel and the snow thrower.
-
1 pointI agree with Brandon, I've been using a battery tender for several years on my tractor that I use to push snow. It stays on charge anytime that the tractor is not in use. I have had no problems with it. I always make sure that I remove the key from the ignition switch so I don't accidentally leave the switch in the on position. I left the key in the on position on another tractor several years ago and fried the coil.

1 pointPrior to the wide spread use of chemical weed control cultivating was a big part of farming. Tractors were specially designed with high clearance to avoid damaging the crops while getting rid of weeds. Cultivating is actually making a comeback amongst the organic grower crowds and some of the 50-60 year old tractors and their cultivators are getting back into use.

1 pointWhat you have is a 1963 round hood 653 that would have had a 6 hp Tecumseh engine . (HH60 ) You may be lucky and find a relacement engine on that auction site or you could place a wanted ad here in the classified section. Or you could put a similar sized Kohler engine say a K141 She looks like a good straight tractor . you may want to look out for a square seat pan too. The most important thing that you must do , is have fun restoring her.

1 pointNo. You need one that mounts to your rear axle with a rear axle mount kit. The axle mount runs around $50 used on Ebay and about $300 or so for the plow. It's a great attachment. The plow you need will also have a lever on the right side to tilt the blade from the drivers seat.

1 pointA couple beers before you get in the seat, another for the cup holder... then stab it and go. Pretty sure you'll have all kinds of overlap going on. An important thing to keep in mind it the fact that the beer goes flat fast when bouncing on a tractor. Be sure to drink them quickly before that happens. Have the wife trained to hand off refills from the deck.
-
1 pointThe more overlap you have the more seat time you get, may want to half-lap and get even more seat time!

1 pointMy High School Buddy & I drove his 1963 Corvair to New Orleans & back before we were to go off to College in summer of 63. He was going to Indiana & I was reporting to Champaign Ill. and the Fighting Illini. We didn't, have any trouble with the car the whole way. Saw Al Hirt on Bourbon Street- drank a HURRICANE, and picked up another Mishawaka Grad ( that we didn't even know was going to Orleans too)-up off the street, by a bar, he had been thrown out by the bouncer! We were not rowdy guys- Honest!-----Thanks- Good Luck--Nice Car!- Al

1 pointBeen using Huskee Kevlar belts on Horses for years. Local TSC store, available all day, inexpensive. Never had a problem. Pulley alignment or spindle shaft problem(s). Most likely your pain in the you-know-what.

1 pointSo Sparky is always telling me that only "cool" trucks have cab lights.... and he always seemed to luck out and buy trucks with them. Myself I always end up with white paint and no cab lights because beggers can't be choosers. But yesterday I found a solution!!!! After hauling a huge boat trailer halfway across CT I got home in torrential rain and was putting my magnet mount Harbor freight trailer lights away... had an inspiration and plugged them in, ran the wire over the tailgate and WALLA!!!! CAB LIGHTS MO FO!!!! My Chevy is Cool now and look how tough with all the lights on in a torrential rain! HA!!! TAKE THAT DODGE BOY!!! (Sparky) Tony

1 pointAlso, download the Kohler service manual and check your governor settings. An improperly adjusted governor will cause surging.

I HAD THE HOLES OF THE MUFFLER BURNED INTO MY BACK. MY WIFE TELLS ME I AM TOO OLD TO PLAY IN THE SNOW. (I AM 86) RUSS
