3 pointsWell my local dealer came thru again! Great guys. They showed this tractor to me 2 weeks ago and asked if I was interested. It was really hard to start and pretty dirty but there wasn't any rust on it. I said "sure am interested" but I have no way to get it to my house. They said see what you can do. Two weeks go by and I stopped by early this morning to pick up some other parts. I mentioned that I had no luck in getting a trailer. They said we will just have one of the guys throw it on a trailer and he can follow you home. Pay us when you get the cash. We shot some starter fluid in the carb and by some miracle she fired right up! A 1993 520-H with a 48" deck followed me home today. Some faded paint, lots of crud and dried dirt BUT underneath is a rust free awesome hunk of tractor! Hour meter stopped at 658 hrs so I am not really sure what the hours are. New oil filter, tranny filter, fuel filter, air filter are all in store for tomorrow as is a wash. The Onan sounds awesome and doesn't burn oil. I put fresh gas in her and cut a third of my yard with her this evening and the hydro is strong, the motion control lever doesn't need any adjusting and the cut was great. Support your local dealer!

3 pointsYou can try squirting some fuel directly into the carb and see if it starts up. Keep the squirt bottle ready and if it starts, keep squirting fuel into it to see if you can keep it running. If you can keep it running by squirting fuel into the carb, then I would THOROUGHLY clean that carb. If the problem persist after that, just buy a $40-$50 replacement carb of ebay. If it doesn't start by doing this, there is something deeper than just a fuel delivery issue.

3 pointsIf anyone runs into the issue of "not enough room to bring something home", they can leave it just up the road at my house! I'll safeguard them until next year! We need a little more "Grey" at the show. what I'm bringing

2 pointsGreetings from the beautiful Finger Lakes Region in New York State. Through the years I've read and been educated, enjoyed the visual builds, and fondly looked at all the tractors this site has produced. I finally joined this community of Wheel Horse tractor enthusiasts because it was time to do so. In 1986, I brought a used 1974 C-100 tractor from a local WH dealer. When he was alive he told me the important thing to do was change the oil and grease the tractor. This gentleman passed away a few years ago and I can remember some of his conversations about this tractor. Another thing he told me was to never use a water hose to wash the tractor down but always use air pressure to blow it off. The only time I used water was to wash underneath the mower deck. But when I did I always remembered what he said. His company tag is fading away on the seat pan. This tractor isn't much to look but she mows a heck of a yard. My father-in-law passed away 3 years ago and I asked my mother-in-law if I could have his 1967 607 WH and she gave the tractor to me. He bought this brand new from the dealer I mentioned above in 1967.The tractor sat at least 5 years under a tarp before I took ownership of it. I changed the plug, points, condenser, oil and rebuild the carburetor. I found a dead mouse in the cooling fins, man did that thing stink. She slowly came to life and with every improvement I would say,"How I'm doing Fred?" and in my mind I picture him grinning. My wife enjoyed these comments because she's my second in command or my gopher. Somewhere along the line, the engine was replaced with a 8hp Tecumseh engine. I just wanted to share a little personal history about these two Wheel Horses with other people who find a small bit of enjoyment that these machines bring into our daily lives. Kelsey

2 pointsWell nuts! It just couldn't be that simple. My mind is thinking possibly the coil. I've seen them act up when they start getting warm.
-
2 pointsThe reason I asked if it was a pull start, is because I had one...and I got tired of pulling the rope. I would take my 857 and put the 2 tractors face to face...lining up the engine pulleys. Figure eight a long fan belt between those pulleys and when pushed apart the running engine will turn over the Tecky...saving your arm. Do you know which kind of carb you have on your engine. Walbro or Tollotson??

2 pointsSounds like a plugged vent in the gas cap. Loosen the cap and see if that fixes it.

1 pointSince I woke up at 3:30 am today and could not fall back asleep I went out back around 5:45 and got the 12' Alumacraft cleaned up using steel wool (course and then fine) along with a degreaser. It will be headed up to my in law's place on a lake in upstate NY. It will stay there so when we go up all I have to bring is a small outboard to be able to get out and do some fishing.

1 pointSo, during the winter, I had my 310-8 set up as a plow tractor. It worked pretty well with no weights (except mine ) and no chains. Just Carlisle All Trail tires. One day, we had about 4 inches, and I was out plowing my driveway, when I started having trouble getting it into gear, and it felt like the brakes were on slightly. I figured maybe the roll pin had broken on the gear shift, allowing the shaft to move and not click the tractor into gear properly, So I had drove it back to where I keep it, and it has sat since then. I did check the roll pin in the shifter though, and it was broken. This transmission, has whined since day one and it also has a broken axle, but its broken under the hub, and the hub holds it together but because of this, I shortly after bought a donor tractor with an 8 pinon, to take the transmission from. Today, I decided to do the swap! Here are some pictures! Hope you enjoy! The following is not supposed to happen. I don't have any idea what happened. I don't understand how it was still working! I'm wayyy too scared to open the transmission Here is the pic of the donor tractor, a 79 C-111 Here is after I finally got the new (cough..old..cough) transmission into the tractor! Once I was done, just because I could, I threw on a plastic fender from a C-161 I got off of craigslist onto the tractor, does anyone else like the look of a plastic fender on a 300, 400, or 500 series? because I can tell you I LOVE it! I really love the look of that fender. These are right after I got the All-Trails mounted back on the 310. Love these tires. Nothing but good things to say about them!

1 pointOMG ! Everything works perfect now, since I installed a new battery, why did I wait so long (just trying to be cheap I guess), all I needed was this new battery to make everything work perfect, like it should. Got my garden tilled and 3 others all today, and I've been down since last summer. I sure got a whole lot smarter now, thanks to everyone. Glen

1 pointI'll have a Heavy Duty Custom suitcase weight bracket that fits the front engine round hoods. Holds 3 weights. WEIGHTS NOT INCLUDED! I'm selling it for what it cost me to have it made $75.00

1 pointWhat does your fuel filter look like and how much fuel is in the tank. My 704 Vacuum fuel pump is weak. With a paper fuel filter it has running problems. If I put one of those red Briggs & Stratton screen filters on and keep the tank over half full, problem seems to go away.

1 pointHello James, just a thought, I had two different motor , 1- B&S and one Kohler act just the same, and it was the key on the crank shaft where the fly wheel is at and both keys were bent sooo slightly, but a new key in both and presto running fine.

1 pointI bought NAPA's best pads several years ago when the truck/rotors had 75,000 miles (new tires too). The rotors were turned at that time. At 165,000 mile (85,000 mile) the rotors and pads were replaced (tires again too). I will be tickled pink if it makes it to 240,000 before it needs brakes again. I get most of my automotive products from NAPA

1 pointThat's how that one is designed to work Glen but maybe something is wrong with it that we can't see.
-
1 pointI'm thinking that 8.5" is a misprint. That's just not wide enough. Millers sounds right.

1 point Pretty darn sure a minivan would do the job... Lol Actually Jay will be taking it back to NC in his trailer. I'll have a Raider 14 in the back of my minivan. Should be interesting to put it in there also. LOL Jay lives a little further east of me from where Dick lives but its alot closer than Pa.
-
1 pointNot sure about yours Glenn but the three prong regulators have to have 12 volts on the center post to putcharging voltage back to the battery.

1 pointRandy, You're bringing the Commando! don't make me come down there and load it for you!
-
1 pointIf you have to do it over, try Case-IH 2150 red. It's a little pricey ($9.95 for a rattle can), but it's the closest thing to VRS that I have found.

1 pointI hope to see your raider there, you can always keep it in the building as others said and even if it does get dirty It can't be too big of a deal to clean it up again. I would love to see it in person. If all goes well I will have this one with me.

1 pointFor the 2015 Annual Wheel Horse Show I will be instructing a class on safe operating of Wheel Horses for kids 15 years and younger and upon completion the child will receive a red wrist band to show there knowledge . Yeah yeah I know what your thinking ..... just who's gonna teach Wild Bill about driving a Wheel Horse safely ??? What I would like to do is have the kids bring their Wheel Horse to class at the Wheel Horse Show and I will give their tractor a safety inspection, teach the kid about their tractor, show them how to do pretrip inspection (walk around) before operating their tractor and have them drive their tractor through a small obstacle course( uh and no the Cruise Night will not be the obstacle course ...... I was thinking that might be the final exam!). I would like to get all the kids involved with this class to make sure they have a fun and safe time operating their Wheel Horse at home and at the Wheel Horse Show. I believe teaching kids how to spot trouble or handle a emergency situation only pays dividends in their lives. Now those of you who know me have already figured out that Wild Bill has fun involved in this some how ..... just come join in and see ! Wild Bill

1 pointI thought that at first look but it sure looked like it was the original engine and it was a low hour and machine besides who would replace a kohler with an onan
-
1 pointBill, you know me and therefore you know that I was just trying to cover bases...very cool sir. Do you need some of us to wear stripped shirts and have whistles and be stationed at various locations?? Any help you need Bill...you knew that. See you at the show. Again...it is so cool to be able to ride horses all weekend at this show...it is getting to be a rare thing at other shows. I just hope parents will be responsible for their kids and not ruin it for all of us.

-
1 pointDuane, that is absolutely beautiful! I saw a video testing the Ford vs. Dodge vs. Chevy and the Ford easily out pulled the other 2 carrying a 15K 5th wheel. Very nice!
-
1 pointNow I am not a Ford guy but that is a pretty truck! Congrats Duane. If you break down for some reason on the way down, give me a call I will bring my tow chain and pull you the rest of the way there with my Silverado Duramax... lol

1 pointI am a machinist by trade.I make all my axle out of 4140 pre hard turn ground and polished.I have never broken one that I've made for any of my pulling tractors. It it expensive but worth it.I think the last I bought was a little over a dollar an inch for 1" dia. I did make an axle one for a simplicity puller out of Stanless Steel I don't remember the alloy but I had over $250 in the material. It was 2 1/2 dia.
