LOL...Basically sprayed them down with water and Simple Green. Toyed with the idea of restoring them for a few years , but the "patina" has grown on me. If you look close you can see my re-upholstery work. They're really not that bad except for some surface rust. Mechanically they are in great shape. I'm sure both spent some time of their life exposed to the elements, but for 40 and 41 years old and pretty much all original, I think they've aged pretty well. The C-100 is my snow mover. The B-80 is a backup for the C-100 and mainly a yard puller. I mow with it about once a month to give it some running time, but given the fact that it has a turning radius of a small SUV, it just isn't practical for mowing my small yard every week. I'd imagine both will probably still be running well after my riding days are over.

So do you think we can get this to work? Couldn't resist, it was sitting in the yard and the color was a match.

Here's what I started with this morning... and what I finally ended up using today. (and, of course...the picts will only load in reverse order)

After a dipper broke off the connecting rod, which caused the engine to throw a rod, it was time for a rebuild. I also decided, since thre engine was out and looking so good, I'd do a refresh of the entire tractor. Below are the before and after pictures of the engine refresh. Tractor pictures to follow.

Hey guys I'm new here, but I figured I would share my project I have going on. My neighbor was going to take his old c-100 to the land fill and I asked him about it, he said if I wanted it, it was mine. So I picked up for free! I have a 520-H that I'm pulling the onan off of and using it to power the c-100. My later plans are to put the hydrostatic rear end under the c-100 too. Yes the 520 was in perfect running shape, but I never was fond of that body style, so I'm building one!

1000 bucks for a mint NOS Raider 14? I'm not full of money but for that price I'll take 5 of em...
  7. 3 points
3 grand maybe. I think it was you that told me an NOS 420 sold for 4500 so that is what I'm going by. The Raider is wicked nice but it ain't an NOS 420 with all that Chrome, the leather seat, the 20 hp Kohler and the limited run of roughly 200 made on the 420 there has got to be a 1500 dollar difference between the two. I think the Raider can be duplicated for probably 1500 bucks if a guy wanted to do one and if he did all the work himself. Naturally it won't be NOS. I wouldn't want to be the guy that sells an NOS tractor to someone that thinks it would be fun to cut their grass with it. Even though that is what they were made for it would be a shame to see that happen after all these yrs of it remaining MINT. At the end of the day who really knows how to value an NOS tractor, I think the only guy that can tell you that is the guy that is serious about buying one...

it has been a while since the motivation has been there to spend some time out in the barn. Last year is behind us and I am starting to feel rejuvenated to get some more things done. Took some time recently to add some more items. Really happy to add these to the collection.

Sorry you hurt yourself, but if you are coming to the Wheel Horse Show in June, you may just qualify for this.

I bought it, starts and sounds good. The deck is real clean, it needs front tires and a good going over but I think it is a nice rig. Plow and snow blower came with it and a book with parts list.

Anyone putting out some of their tractors for a Memorial Day theme? I put a quick one together this morning. I used to take a tractor or 2 downtown for a "Wheels on Main Street show but I would get there early for a good spot only to return and find out the Farmall guys wanted my spot and moved my display. Never again! So I have a "Private " one every year. Post them up!

Started out Friday afternoon with what I thought was a great display. Look what I found Saturday morning! Gotta love my neighbors.

I should have stopped & snapped a pic of one guys house Saturday morning on my way to our wheeler drop spot . He must have 1500 flags stuck into his front yard & above his house he had an enormous " ALL GAVE SOME - SOME GAVE ALL " sign . Quite impressive !

Well, here's what I'm starting with. The first 4 pics were taken 7 years ago (when the machine was 34 y/o) when I first picked up the machine from a local seller. Been cutting with it every weekend in the summer, and throwing snow every winter. Time to refresh this baby. And the last 5 are as of this afternoon ... More to follow soon.

Today we remember those who died defending our country and freedoms. Thank you to all who have served. Unfortunately, with the forum upgrade I do not have a patriotic theme to apply Happy Memorial Day.

Got a real nice '86 417-A from fellow Red Square member mimmmurray today. This has more dust than rust as it had been stored for 12 years. Now I need to expand my knowledge-base on the KT Series II.

If anyone does not believe that those gears throw oil...put the trans on a work bench with either an electric motor (I use a 1/3 hsp with a rheostat so the speed is close to correct)) or with a figure eighted fan belt off the drive pulley of another horse and look down the shifter hole with a flash light. It is like it is raining in there and that is the only way the shift rail shafts and detente parts get oil.

Hi Guys, Got side-tracked by a leaking toilet! I'm using Rustolium Sunrise Red. I have wet sanded using 1200 grit twice now. First wet sand was after the 2nd coat and a two day dry. Another coat and a day drying and i did the 2nd wet sand. The first sanding removed the dimensional "specs" and after the 2nd sanding, I would say the orange peel look is 50% reduced. It's glossy but not near an automotive finish. We have had the real cold days and dampness on top of it. The paint has been drying now for three days. I think I'll head to NAPA for some 2000 grit and some emery cloth. I wish the pollen count would go down. Even in the garage I see a light green on the tractor hoods! After I sand it this time, I'm going to cut down on the thickness of the coating. I guess you really need patience to do this, huh?!!! (It's a virtue I sure as heck don't possess)! My father has to be laughing from above at this process. He was a Chevrolet bodyman and paint specialist for 45 years! Wish he was here to advise. I'm sure he would have taken over the project by now!

Was able to rustle another across the NY/CT border today... you can clearly see, it sure is thankful to finally be free.

I agree Mike. No profit. But if a person was looking for a quality user it's leaps and bounds above what $2500 will buy new today. This is a tough one to value.
  30. 1 point
Might be hard to turn a profit on this one. The gas in a V-8 pickup to get 2000 miles from home and back (not really sure how far you had to go) rental cost of that truck plus tolls, food stops.. .etc....add to the cost of that tractor. I'm at around $2000-$2500. Mike........

Now I'm curious what you had to edit out Mike! I don't know about you sometimes You can see the holes in the pic, there just filled with fence posts I don't know about NY code but I had to bury those huge plastic mold footing thingys and sona tubes. Needed a real backhoe for those since they needed to be buried 4ft. Footing things were about 2 1/2 ft square. Are you sure about the holes? I can have the wife take some low angle pics!

I got it fully mounted, and wired to run. Threw gas to it and it fired right up. The onan on the 520 wasn't charging, but the kohler on the c100 was. So I wired the onan to the kohler voltage regulator and it's charging again! That saves about $60 for an onan voltage regulator. The gas tank seems like it should fit in the factor location but the battery will not. So I have to figure out a spot to mount it, I'm thinking under the rear seat pan. I couldn't drive it around as the drive belt from the c100 wasn't long enough so possibly sometime this week I'll pick a belt to fit it. Also the pto arm wasn't long enough to to reach the onan so I'll have to switch that part over from the 520

Thanks. Rick bought it back from auxtio. then larry bought it and that's where i got it . I'll keep it until i get bored then it'll be uo for barter .

If ya really want to test that, I have to dig new holes for my deck! (I don't need to see your holes though).

From my understanding is that dealers had to pay $1500 for the display to help with the promotion that Toro was having. The tractors were complete, minus an engine. It is my understanding that many had an engine installed so that the dealer could then sell it as a functioning mower and recoup some of their costs. The Lawn & Garden Tractor magazine covered some of the history in a previous issue.

I wouldn't trust the stability of that original battery. Even though it still works I wouldn't put a whole bunch of faith in it and its not worth taking the chance. The last thing you want is that battery to puke itself all over the original paint ruining it and the battery in the process. I would save the battery for demonstration purposes only, I'm not sure I'd even leave it in the tractor...

Good lookin' display there Mikey. Here's last years...and the year before. and of course, we'll see what we can come up with again tomorrow.

Not trying to burst your bubble, the rear weights are Not Wheel Horse. The original weights are two piece weights that bolt from the inside off the wheel. Other than that I think you did good. The snow blower looks interesting for sure, Good Luck!

I become attached to my toys. I would cry if someone dismantled that C-200. That's why I don't sell my stuff. My kids are gonna have a yard sale and sell everything for peanuts just to unload the stuff. Maybe I'll change my mind and sell it all off myself and spend the cash!!!
