Anyone putting out some of their tractors for a Memorial Day theme? I put a quick one together this morning. I used to take a tractor or 2 downtown for a "Wheels on Main Street show but I would get there early for a good spot only to return and find out the Farmall guys wanted my spot and moved my display. Never again! So I have a "Private " one every year. Post them up!

Thought I would share my newest twins that I have adopted over the past year. These both need some TLC, but through my research, there was only 30 painted with this color scheme. Hoping to get one up and going soon and then take my time in getting the other one in better shape. The only thing I am missing is the polo shirt and hat I believe. If anyone has any leads on some of the items, please let me know. i do have the dealer poster already hanging in the barn. If you notice they have some differences in the flames while one tractor is a 15-38 and the other is a 16-44.

I was out raising the flag this morning like I do every morning and was thinking about it being Memorial Day Weekend again. I was thinking about how on the news they were talking of Honoring Veterans. Honoring Vet's is something we should do and have a day to do that on. Memorial Day to me is a day set aside to honor those that paid the ultimate price for freedom. Like many of you I have had relatives from the Revolutionary war to the Civil war and wars after that, who lost their lives in the service to are country. So I take a quote from Mr. Lincoln's address at Gettysburg. "That from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion." This is what Memorial Day is all about.

I wouldn't trust the stability of that original battery. Even though it still works I wouldn't put a whole bunch of faith in it and its not worth taking the chance. The last thing you want is that battery to puke itself all over the original paint ruining it and the battery in the process. I would save the battery for demonstration purposes only, I'm not sure I'd even leave it in the tractor...

Thanks James, the new air filters certainly look much better than the over sized ones I bought by mistake Thanks dude, she's a long way off being finished but a test run video or two will be appearing first I miss my E-tank, but sadly there is no place to put one at my new workshop.. There is a swimming pool on site, but I don't think they would be too keen on not using it as a swimming pool! Well, what a week that has been! My step daughter has been seriously ill for a few weeks resulting in her being rushed into hospital for an emergency operation last Monday. Since then she has been staying with us and quite rightly so my workshop time this past week has not really been much! The good news is Lisa is now recovering quite well, and life is slowly returning to normal for both us and Lisa What workshop time I have had this week has been taken up with welding.. The inside of the chassis where it meets the front axle has been plated up giving it a smoother look and thus changing my plans on how the front end will look.. The outside of the same bit of chassis could of been welded up and ground smooth, but it would never look as smooth as the inside bit.. So a cardboard template was made and some WH panel off cuts were dug out. Resulting in.... The very front of the chassis under the axle needed tidying up, and as the whole build has a Hot Rod feel to it I thought the chassis needed the same touch.. Three bits of plate and a bit of box tacked together. Which go here.... I would of welded them on but early Wednesday morning I ran out of welding gas.. I wondered why the last of the gas vanished very quickly and found a welding burn hole through the rubber pipe! So watch out for flying sparks guys and girls! New gas didn't arrive until late Thursday afternoon so instead of welding I did some cutting.. Eight plates marked out on some 5mm thick steel. These would of been easy to make had I not wanted the curves! It wasn't until yesterday that I got the chance to weld all the new bits on.. Lot's of welding and lot's of grinding the welds smooth, but it was worth it

I bought it, starts and sounds good. The deck is real clean, it needs front tires and a good going over but I think it is a nice rig. Plow and snow blower came with it and a book with parts list.

So my job has me traveling often and one of my "worksites" is Pearl Harbor. Been there maybe 15 times but never had the time or was with other folks who had already been and didn't want to go again to the Arizona Memorial. I just got home today from a 3 weeker so I had a couple Sundays off and was alone for part of the time so I went. I am so glad I did!! I'm not a museum guy and if I'm in one I usually breeze right thru.....but at the Arizona I spent almost 4 hours taking it all in....the movie....the boat trip...the memorial...the museum...and the grounds. They open at 7am and only have a limited number of tickets per day so I was there bright and early at 6:40am and I was still a 100 or so deep in line and when 7:00 came there were probably 400 people behind me!!. I got my ticket for the first showing of the movie which then leads directly to the boat to take you to the memorial. At the memorial the first thing you notice is the smell of oil which is still today (after 74 years) leaking slowly out of the battleship. You can see it coming up and then hitting the surface and quickly spreading out. Getting there early meant the water was calm and I could see a whole lot more than you would if the water was disturbed by waves. The feeling out at the memorial was somber and there was no loud talking, screaming kids and no one yakking on their cell phones....it was a very respectful crowd. There was a tour guide who was full of great stories about the Arizona both before and after the attack. It was interesting to learn that Elvis Presley was a huge contributor to the Arizona Memorial project! Of course I remembered my camera...here's a few pics (and two selfies....I gotta learn to smile). Mike............

I don't think it would be a good idea to over fill it. The upper gears, etc. depend on lube being 'splashed' on them' I discussed this with Stevasaurus a while back and he's actually seen the amount that gets tossed around. Overfilling could possibly limit the splashing effect. Filling as recommended will be just fine.

WOW! Holy dead post, Batman! All this time later, I tracked her down and got 'er for $75.00! It's serial number 148 and powered by a Briggs model 19. It has ridiculously high gearing.. I clocked it at 17MPH, still runs like a champ! Apparently it was originally metallic green and cream white.. the last owner really buggered it up by over spraying EVERYTHING.. The decals WERE there and apparently in good shape, too... However after draining a few gallons of water from various places.. she went right down the road on her own! I'm amazed. As much as I love my MH PONY, and my 'Horses.. this thing blows me away! Needs a good bit of work yet.. but I can't believe I actually found it. It's literally the SAME one. My god.. this thing is LONG! The hood is twice the distance from the seat as it is on a WH! No cables, it has bellcranks and a cast iron quadrent as a throttle.. strikingly similar to a model T actually. Transmission is what I'd call an 'E' pattern, with one extra slot. It has a large latch that locks it in gear.. the transmission ad rear axle are of a very odd design.. both have oil drains, but the chain-case only has a grease fitting? Whats the drain for then!? More pics. to come. Never thought I'd see one again! So, three years later I ask again.. anybody know about them?:)

Used the Commando 8 to pull the Carolina Skiff project out into the sun. Last fall I decided to scale down to ONE boat. I sold my 23' Trophy WAC and my 15' Grumman and bought this 19' Carolina skiff in Jan. Much of the winter was spent rigging it for crabbing and fishing in the Delaware Bay. It cane with the 70HP Johnson. I added the mount for the 9.9 and painted both motors. Added rod holders, front seat, cleats, wash down system, front roller for pulling crab pots, spare tire, float on bunker guides ,Lorance chart plotter, Hummingbird fish finder,Garmin GPS. Will launch tomorrow at Cedar Creek , Delaware.

it has been a while since the motivation has been there to spend some time out in the barn. Last year is behind us and I am starting to feel rejuvenated to get some more things done. Took some time recently to add some more items. Really happy to add these to the collection.

Thanks for posting Mike. I was there in 2011 and took it all in. Just amazing. Like mentioned, the Bowfin is interesting and if you have the time, get out to see the USS Missouri and the air museum on the island. Both are must see. Plan another 4-6 hours to take in both. Good to hear you had a respectful group of people with you. Wish I could say the same for our tour. We had a group of very distasteful Japanese tourists while on the memorial. I think the memorial might just be the most somber place I've ever visited.

Why the need for extra horsepower? The 312 hydro tractors were sold with a heavy duty and a light duty hydro drive system, you should know which you have before adding another 4-6 HP. If you have manual lift then you have the lighter duty hydro (Eaton-700).....hydraulic lift tells you that its the heavy duty hydro (Eaton-1100). Mike.........

I'm liking the added on pieces a lot. Gives the front end a better look and adds support to the outer mounts. Great job Ian.

Not trying to burst your bubble, the rear weights are Not Wheel Horse. The original weights are two piece weights that bolt from the inside off the wheel. Other than that I think you did good. The snow blower looks interesting for sure, Good Luck!

a diesel GT14 would be amazing! there is a guy on youtube that has made a diesel sears. he used a Chinese clone engine though. If i was to do it I would go all out and use either a Lister LT1 or LD1 (lister later became petter). they also the the Lister LT1 in a 2 6 cylinder format as well. I reckon if you could squeeze a 3 cylinder in there it would become my favourite wheel horse of all time as it would sound like a full size vintage tractor! here is the 3 cylinder, might be bit big though: the newer LT1 stater motor can be installed on these: the older LD1 not sure about starter motors: I might have got a bit carried away here! sorry! callum

Whats the story on the battery? It looks like the old style with the individual fill caps........is it as old as the machine? I assume a different battery was swapped in to fire it off the two times it was ran . Mike..........

One of our members here offers some specific parts for Onan Powered Wheelhorse tractors. His website specializes in retro kitchens but if you look, you'll find fuse block repair kits for the blocks in the WH's. http://classickitchensandmore.com/wheel-horse-tractors-parts-c-42/?zenid=kjrevi19bh591vgigu8jtcm945

You got a good deal on the weights. Thanks for the photo of the mini-steam engine. A fellow that lived around here that was a machinist built one of these years ago. It was probably 2 times that size. You could actually sit (sideways) on his.

Now the dilemma is what to do with a high dollar investment like that! Keep it just like it is and drool over it every once and a while, or put gas in it and drive it around. You could try to flip it and maybe make a few bucks. Either way it's a lot of cash sitting there (that's why I got rid of my Senior). Nice piece! Good luck with it!

I dont remember the size of the threads in the block and dont have one handy to look at. Yes run a brace, I have seen 2 Tecumseh blocks that have cracked into the exhaust port because of not running one.

Well, since I had to tow you in TWICE over the past yr. I figured you owed me one.. This is one of those laugh now cry later type of deals for you, I can almost GUARANTEE it that you will be at the end of my line sometime real soon. KARMA. I might even pretend not to see you waving me over just to make you suffer a little.. I'll make sure to always have my camera handy for that special Kodak moment.. Now, the motor that konked out is a 1926 Johnson 2hp. I completely went thru this motor over the winter and then I shined it up. It hadn't been run in decades... She started easy and ran very well but when I shut it off to make some adjustments I couldn't get it refired.. It happens, I always expect to have to do additional work after taking out a motor for the first time in so long but for a motor that is 90 yrs. old I was very pleased, matter of fact I will be taking it back out in a few days...

Well we had a really good day...... at least I did ... Me towing Ken B in with my 1929 Johnson 3hp (that I bought from Ken at the meet last year). Th eguy who took these photos was kind enough to post on the antique outboard site... thought I would share too

I would call Wyndham, ask to speak to a manager. Tell them that you want to be comped in the amount of the lost rewards, and that you want it in the form if a Visa gift card mailed so you have it before your visit. There are consumer protection rules that apply here and you need to be firm. This happened to me a few years back with Marriott, and they made good.

You're all jealous!!!! Let's put it in perspective. I stopped by a JD dealer looking at a 4or 500 series. I needed a mower, snow blower, and maybe a plow. I was considering upgrading from my horses. Silly me! The one other accessory which was a must have was a mid mount grader blade. They immediately showed me a 700 series. I politely pointed to a tired Wheel Horse 314-8 they had for sale and said that does what I need. They all smirked as I explained how well a 50" grader blade repairs my 1/4 mile driveway very spring. Fact is if I didn't know any better I may have purchased something bright, shiny, and well NEW. But I think most of our RS members are well educated when it comes to our equipment. Thanks to the many members who've steered me right over the years! You've collectively saved many of us a small fortune. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I guess it's time for a little update, little being the operative word as I haven't been able to spend a whole lot of time on the project over the past couple of weeks. Finished off and painted the mule Fitted it and as it had finally stopped raining took the tractor for a drive round outside. Finished and fitted the deck adjuster - it's probably not an exact replica but it looks ok and will do the job. Thanks to Lonny and Bob for the photos and dimensions I've worked from which have also been used to fab the deck hanger bracket. I'd already placed the 'Tach-a-matic' decals where they were originally but noted with interest that when a deck adjuster was fitted they appear to have been placed higher between the two mounting bolts. Puzzle is - how did they know at the factory whether a particular tractor would end up with a deck or not? Hmmm. It would have been nice to have turned up the proper looking spacer sleeves but as I don't have a lathe yet I had to improvise. Some washers as spacers held in place with a little bead weld and instead of a steel turned sleeve we have nylon plumbing nuts on the basis that nylon against steel is better than steel on steel. I think it will look ok once it's painted red. The gas cap arrived thanks to James who forwarded it on to me. I think it is safe to say that Kelch supplied the OEM factory part and the design has changed little over the years apart from an improved plastic float. The original was 13 and 1/2" long, made no doubt to WH spec, but the nearest stadard item is 12" long. Looks good though and I now have a 'reserve' after the gage reaches empty. (sorry about photo quality - camera auto-focus in closeup mode chose the foreground) Looks good on the tank too. The 'E' looks distorted but it's just a trick played by the shape of the clear gage cover in the photo. With various vintage vehicles and tractors stored together in a barn we (my son and I) have a golden rule - the batteries are left disconnected. The jeeps have factory isolators so I thought I'd add something to make disconnection easy on the 'D' and found this isolator which fits directly to thee battery post and takes the original earth lead as well. Another bit of 'bling' thats 100% functional. Undo the thumbwheel a quarter turn and the battery's disconnected. While I was back in painting mode thought it was about time I did the PTO brake bracket which is a little unusual on my example of a D-200. The brake normally mounts onto one of the PTO clutch lever arms but this is a different arrangement. The bracket is certainly an OEM part and bolts onto one of the lugs on the aluminium engine plate. The bracket was still in place whe I got the tractor but sadly the brake itself had been lost along with other of the smaller parts of the PTO which had been taken off. (The PTO came in kit form in a hessian sack) So that's about it for now. Must get on and get the rest of the decals on and paint the instrument dash etc etc. Yep, there's still much to do. I'll sign off for now with a couple more photos of the beast on it's first outing after the rain stopped. Andy
