3 pointsAfter going through 3 canopies since 2010 , I am taking delivery on a new professional model 10' x 15' red canopy this year. Cost is almost 3 times that of those I've had in the past, so I hope to get a few more years out of this one. Any contributions to the cause will be rewarded with some of Mrs. M's cookie bars.

3 pointsHi all, it suddenly occurred to me that i haven't actually posted anything in this section of the forum, so I though i would share my horse with you as i have only done so on the restorations modifications and customisations board. The is my first horse and its a 1972 A-800 ranger, I am currently in the process of customisation called 'project agri-800', what I'm doing here is turning a lawn tractor into a garden tractor. lights, stack, Uni-drive, front spindle to 4 lug hub and agri style rear tyres are some of the modifications I have either done or doing to get there. the main modification is obviously getting rid of the peerless tranny and fitting a Uni-drive i and in the process of doing that now. once i have finished this project I will have a one-of-a-kind heavy duty garden tractor that I will make various implements for such as a harrow, reel mower and various other bits. anyway, here are some videos from my youtube channel, i was only driving around the small garden here but the tractor will be used at the allotment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2mjMdbKd3U&spfreload=10 haha, opening line in this video "bet you didn't know i had one of these", it was one of my first videos of a wheel horse on my previously stationary engine and workshop related channel, I would hope being a red square member would suggest i own a WH!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpqluu0pfY0&spfreload=10 and some pictures for you all: thanks for looking, I hope I might have let some of you see the A series in a different light, callum

3 pointsGroundhog and I drove over to E La Saturday to check on a couple CL advertised D's. Nice young man was trying to get rid of some of his grandfathers 'stuff', consequently he wasnt real up on terminology. He had a definite '78 D-200 and a '73 18 Automatic. I bought the 18, hesitatingly giving him $300 cause it looked rough, been sitting out for many years. I already have a D-180 and a D-160 and I do love those brutes, so along with just wanting another one I have to think about those Sundstrand drives failing at some point. Have become pretty familiar with the D family, but not so on a 18 automatic (is that the proper name of one?) Got that brute loaded by the hardest what with the bypass valve frozen solid and the rear wheels locked and the fronts going flat about as fast as we could air them all this while a heck of a rain storm going on and the Ross steering with about a full round of slack in the wheel --- (Ah, the joys of getting a new horse!) Got it running over the last couple days - strange wiring, with safety switches kaput, and frozen linkages, etc, etc Backed it in and out of the shop a couple times and seemed OK, but the steering was too wanky to drive. Then tackled the Ross -- boyoboy is that thing a booger to get out! whew! I already had a kit and thats the easy part, so after about 17 skinned places on the arms/hands I got it back in and WOW it steers like a dream! So now I can drive the thing and I am VERY surprised. that thing runs like a dream, no smoke, rattles, or shakes and the Sundstrand seems to be quite good - that certainly made the $300 look a LOT better, Its still rough, lots of rust but hey whatauexpect in a 41 yr old machine? Also offsetting the $300 I got a complete K341 - complete - wires, solenoid, air cleaner, etc, for $125 (and it turns freely and has compression!) Im tickled with that (I love that bad a** 16hp) Also got a really nice complete 42" SD deck for $100. Still in negotiation on the D-200 but it dont look too promising, I told him $300 on it also as its in comparable condition as the 18, but dont look good there.

2 pointsIt's scary to look at. Build some extensions or you'll have more than your knee to worry about

2 pointsBrrly, I have access to a hot water (almost steam) pressure washer. I have used it to clean the inside of Wheel Horse plastic fuel tanks and old LAGT tires that have years of built up dirt and grime that can't be washed out any other way (in my experience). It works great and gets the fuel tanks clean like new. If you or one of your buddies has access to one of these washers this is what I would recommend.

2 pointsMade the change. What I am thinking is when a forum has a new post THEN put the WH logo? How do you think that would look? (it would apply to all)
-
2 pointsThe indents are cast that way so that the weights will stack and still be centered. You could put 2, 3, or more on each side if you had longer mounting bolts. I don't think I would make them flat, just get a couple more cast and stack them.

1 pointI really like the way the two piece cultivator works on the 1961 Wheel Horse 701 with the Hein-Werner hydraulic pump. It tool a fraction of the time to cultivator the vegetable garden from what a small tiller would do !

1 pointPart of the "Honey Do" list was to remove a large 12ft Forsythia bush. Dug a trench around it and chained it up to the loader bucket.

1 pointJust bourght me an old Wheelhorse, but i can't find the model number, because it is painted black. I have taken some pictures so i hope that someone can help me.
-
1 pointI think you did all right for 300 bucks.Looks much better than some of the worn out crap that I've paid much more for.Decent looking mower deck too.Have fun with your new toy.

1 pointThe cheapo meters are CAT rated for the voltage that they blew it up with, its a matter of buying from a manufacture that can back up their claims responsibly (with UL or CE ratings and the test data to prove it) when your life depends on it (medium and HV line like 120v+). I use a couple no-name meters at home for stuff (though I will soon be replacing them) like tractors and cars but at work its all high dollar fluke and equivalent!
-
1 pointI had one that looked like tar in it - and the fuel line and carb! - While Dawn is good, it wouldnt touch this stuff! Tried kerosene and nothing... then tried a little Acetone and it seemed to be working some. Tried a few applications sitting for a few hours and each time would get a slight improvement, but too slow for me - so I then tried lacquer thinner and it worked even better, so a few with that and the tank finally looked ready. Boy that was nasty stuff! The carb was beyond hope, the needle jet was completely beyond as was the lines.

1 pointX2. You've done, and continue to do so much. and already can't thank you enough....I'm not about to knit-pick things like this. Put it the way you'd like to see it. It's a new forum to us anyhow.
-
1 pointIt's looking like I'll start to convert them back. Unfortunately, with this change it's like one way or another. I can give any number of forums a custom icon which can ONLY dim. I can change the default icon's to what ever we want which can be anything, or I can leave them at default. In other words, custom icons can not be 2 different icons, they can only dim. I'm going to start to change the forums back to the standard. I'm pretty sure I know which way this vote's going to go anyway.

1 pointExcellent, you can get those plugs at ACE, TSC, TORO. It will take about 3 pints, if you get it all drained out.
-
1 pointIt is 11;35 CST...going to a 2nd overtime Chicago / Anaheim (sp). Do they have ice in California...I thought they were out of water.???
-
1 pointThanks for the reply. Finally got the plug out. Someone rounded it off at some point and brazed a nut on it and when I tried to turn it it felt like it was twisting off. Anyway that plug will not be put back in. And good news no water at all in the trans.

1 pointThat is actually one item I would not complain about if my wife tried to hang it on the wall !!!!!!!! Looks great!!! I think it would probably go well with the décor of any room!

1 pointBooVuc, I only have asked this question because everyone I have talked to about the p series Onan and all of the blocks I have seen have had a problem with the rear intake seat.I just got a P220 block with close to 2000 hours on it and no hint of seat issues. This block was not used in a Wheel Horse but a Groundmaster with remote filter and better air flow to what we with Wheel Horses(stock) have. The airflow over the rear cylinder on the Wheel Horse is as we all know is blocked by the belt guard and its brace. I have read the posts that give these seat issues as one of high heat and thermal expansion, but why only the intake seat.Thats the reason for the question.I think that the exhaust seat is kept close to the cylinder temp because of the flow of exhaust gases through it .The intake valve and seat are cooled by the incoming fuel and air mixture coming through them.If the intake valve and seat stay cooled and the aluminum block they are located in is over heated by lack of air flow then thermal expansion causes the cooled seat to become loose.Hope this makes sense. My thought is that if the cooling issues are addressed that a block with good seats will not have a problem with loose intake seats. There are folks with much more experiance with the Onans than me and I welcome any critique of my posts.Luck,JAin Va

1 pointMy first recollection of was a garden show in about 1955, my dad was looking at an RJ and as a ten year old I was so excited that I may be driving it soon. He didn't get it, opted for a walk behind rototiller that I walked behind for a long time! In the early '80s I bought a used A-81 (small rider) which served me faithfully for a dozen years or so. It was replaced by a couple of big box store riders that didn't last very long. Ten years ago I needed a tough mower to take care of some property we had purchased. While attending a Hit & Miss show I picked up my 1055. This rekindled my fascination with that had begun fifty years earlier. The 1055 is still my go to tractor for snow plowing, don't know what in particular makes it so good, but it is the best pusher of the bunch. I have added lots of other horses to the herd, but the 1055 is a keeper.
-
1 pointI believe they're exactly the same tractor, and they're not necessarily less expensive at the big box stores. I don't remember if I've told this story here before... Several years ago, the engine on my 310-8 was going bad, smoking, losing power, leaking and burning oil, etc. Money was tight, and I actually considered replacing my beloved Wheel Horse with a cheap Deere or Cub Cadet just to get by for a while. My local Deere dealer had a good selection of tractors, ranging from inexpensive to very expensive. Lowe's and Home Depot carried the inexpensive models, at exactly the same prices the Deere dealer was asking. And then one day I overheard a Lowe's salesman talking to another customer, and he actually said that one of the great things about buying a Deere product was that you could get parts and service at any Deere dealer. And I thought, if the price is exactly the same at an authorized dealer, and Lowe's doesn't generally carry parts, and they certainly don't service tractors, then why in the world would I buy a Deere tractor from them??? I kept my 310-8, had the engine rebuilt and found RedSquare all about the same time. I like the way things turned out.

1 pointI went and looked at a new truck today, so much crap on them no way I could work on it. Ya need to be a computer tech to work on them. what a $62,000 piece of crap
