10 pointsThis is my son, it's his first time on a tractor.. With the smile he had im guessing it won't be his last!!

9 pointsI went to an old friends tire shop to buy 2 new tires for my van. He asked if I was still into old Wheel Horse's and I said yes! He had 2 for sale and was going to Portland swap meet this week with them. He said one was the type that had the motor down between your legs! I told him I was interested in it and he said the hood was missing and the motor was too. No problem, how much do you want for it? He said $75.00. We went to look at it and it was a nice little 1960 Model 400 that was in good shape, 4 good tires, front rims were nice, good steering wheel, rear hitch wasn't even locked up and still worked with the lift handle, one good foot rest and the trans was in good shape and shifted like it should. I told him I would take it and the deal was made. I took it home and gave it the once over, wire wheeled the rust off of it, added the dual rear wheels for fun and sprayed it with WD 40. Now it looks pretty good, I have a 4 hp Kohler in the parts shed and a friend may have a junky 1960 hood he can sell me. I think this is a early production 1960 due to the old 1958-59 small butt seat, old style of General front tires and the 58-59 style of foot rest's. Pretty cool little machine!

9 pointsI got my first seat time since getting sick again. My wife and I fired up the B60, B80 and C85 for some yard work today. We picked up all the sticks, blew off the concrete picnic pad, compacted the burn pile with the C85 plow tractor, and cut the grass. guess it took us about 2 1/2 hours to get it all done. And yes, at one point I was driving two tractors at the same time, but I didn't have any fingers left to push the record button on the camera, so sorry, no videos. It felt good to finally be outside getting something done after all this time. I know a couple hours doesn't seem like much to most of you but to a guy whose blood counts have been up and down more than Tessa Piccillo's yoyo it felt like a career!

6 pointsWe worked all week on the vegetable garden tilling, incorporating old horse manure and yesterday and today starting the alignment of rows planting of seeds! We used the 1979 Wheel Horse C-121 and tiller for a lot of the work but also used the 1961 Wheel Horse 701 with disc, spiked tooth harrow. We will be using the 701 with two piece cultivator to keep the garden as free of weeds as possible later on in the season. We will be placing plants in the ground in about 10 days! Here are a few early pics of the process used. Hauling 701 to the farm/garden Harrow and Disc C-121 at Work 701 with Disc and harrow C-121 at work Horses Resting for the day

5 pointsWell I came home this afternoon and pulled into my driveway and seen my Wheel Horses got out of the barn and trapped this John Deere 300. It was over before I even got out of truck. Big D made the JD 300 tap out in 3 seconds. Then the 314a with the kwik way bucket ended up scooping the JD 300 and dumping it down a cliff. Lol Tractor Fight

5 pointsIt has been my son's dream since he was twelve years old, to be an Officer in the Marine Corp. Yesterday, my son, Jeff, was promoted from Staff Sargent, to 2nd Lieutenant, USMC. First salute as an officer from his dad. 2nd Lt. Jeffrey Thomas Evans, USMC.

5 pointsBroke out the 314-8 with my favorite deck: 42" rear discharge. Cut grass for 90 minutes then did some yard work with the C-165-8 and trailer. The 165 is pretty comfy and steers amazingly well; even easier than the 314 which is 12 years newer.

4 pointsI said I was done buying anymore Wheel Horse Tractors as I've had some of the best and most desirable ones out there including a Senior, 1955RJ, and a unmolested original RJ58. They have all gone off to other collectors. I do have my first 58RJ which is really a resto-mod as it has an NOS 1961 401 hood on it along with an electric start Kohler K91. I probably should have never sold the unmolested 58RJ but oh well it's gone. So I really wanted another RJ that is in it's original configuration. This came up and I jumped at it. It is missing the fuel tank, engine, belt guard, brake band and brake rod. I have a perfect and clean original fuel tank. I also have a K90 all rebuilt, painted and ready to drop in. The brake rod is no problem to replicate. The brake band should be no problem to find. I'll have to put the feelers out to try and find an original belt cover or just settle for a reproduction. The hood is missing one of the tank bands and has the usual two cracks in the area of the fuel hole. Otherwise it's in great shape. Seat isn't original but it's a very close match (at least I don't think it's original). The original throttle lever is still in place as is the model/serial tag. The steering wheel does't have any cracks and is in nice shape. It's gonna take some work but it will be like showroom new when it's done. It ain't gonna happen over night that's for sure!

4 pointsMy wife & I were on a "road trip" in Illinois Saturday. We crossed back into Indiana for the trip back home and stopped to visit with a good friend in Greencastle Indiana. We visited with Lane & Ruth Ralph (Lane Ranger on RS) for a while. Lane sure has a lot of Wheel Horse goodies to look at and to drool over!! We really enjoyed our visit with Lane & Ruth. Here is a shot of Lane & I.

3 pointsFigured it was about time to make the 79 C-161 black hood a " black hood"! Always did like the red, but the more black hood tractors I get that every time I look at the red, it just seems naked! Next will be the C-175

3 pointsWell, I sold the half of my parts tractor that I didn't want, so I got room for another! They keep getting older

2 pointsI picked up this nice D200 from a Redsquare member, Coldone. This tractor has a 3 point hitch, rear PTO, turning brakes, and what I consider original hours=262. I am very happy with this machine. Thanks for the hospitality from you and your wife, Coldone.

2 pointsHad my nephew over doing some of my "honey do list" by painting one of my kids rooms. Once he got started, I took advantage of the free time and worked on the RJ for a few hours. The spindles were both frozen in the axle and would not turn. Bottom line, I ended up pulling the entire axle and steering apart. Good thing is now all the parts are cleaned up and moved freely. I was also able to get the roll pin out of the steering wheel and got that pressed off of the steering shaft. At least it steers now so I can actually move it around. I'm 99 percent sure the serial # is 1516 so it's fairly early.

2 pointsI thank all of you for your kind remarks. I can tell you that my son is as kind and as gentle a man as you would ever want to meet but when called on, he can be as tough and as hard as nails. He is a better man than his dad. Thanks, again: Tom

2 pointsmy husband was bit by the bug as a kid, he mowed with a 68 lawn ranger, and once we got marries, needed a new mower, we got a 657 (now mine) and has grown from there, we have too many to mention, and currently have a 63 lawn ranger on the stand to get restored, hopefully we will have its reveal at the big show btw, the original 68 lawn ranger has received a full restore when Jim's dad dropped it off, now it is a show queen, no more mowing for the little gem...the bug bites you hard, once it has you good luck shaking it....

1 pointRemove the spark plug so you can easily turn the motor over by hand. Turn the ignition key to RUN Check for voltage at the (+) coil terminal. If yes Check the voltage at the (-) coil terminal as you rotate the engine slowly by hand for at least 2 complete revolutions. When the ignition points are closed there should be no voltage. When the points are open there should be voltage. This happens once for every 2 revolutions of the crankshaft. If the voltage does not go to 0 volts the point contacts need to be cleaned with a file or crocus cloth. There will be invisible oxidation on them preventing electrical contact. Point gap should be .018" to .020" when they are open at their widest point. The condenser connects to the (-) coil terminal along with the points. Power from the ignition switch goes to (+) coil terminal. Let us know what you find. Garry

1 pointI love your house. It should be that the garage is larger then one's house. That is just the way it should be...love the deck on top also. When you look at it...what else do you need...a place to hang your hat...a place to watch the grass grow...and a couple of horses to make life fun...life is good.

1 pointIt's great to hear that you're back on your machines Jim. That's gotta be some good medicine in itself.

1 pointA year ago I said a little quicker. It didn't happen. But today was a tad different. Start of play this morning. Then bit by bit. Tomorrow sort the wiring and see if I can get it running.

1 pointWell we finallt got the rims painted and tires were mounted, things are starting to come back togather, I like the choice he made with the bar tires all the way around We are in the process of repainting the tins because the orange peel was too much to take off with wet sanding, oh well we are not pro's at it, a learning process for him and me at the same time
