11 pointsHad my two work horses out today for me to get some seat time. The 1995 314-8 still mows a beautiful lawn while the 1990 520-H takes a break only to supervise. Wouldn't trade these two studs for any new junk tractors the big box stores sell today.
-
6 pointsI found this 701 today and could not resist buying it. It cam with a nice deck, extra set of very nice turf tires and rims and snow plow. It is missing the double belt guard, which I will be on the hunt for, It came with a belt guard from a 656. Almost forgot to mention the very nice hub caps it came with and it runs well too!
-
4 pointsI have always wanted a C-195 and now I have one thanks to good buddy Stevebo. I plan to use this tractor gently for chores around the house. It runs awesome and it sounds awesome. My wife came home yesterday and I had the 195 parked in her parking spot. She later asked why is that Big Red tractor parked in her spot. It instantly had a name..

4 pointsAll 11 of the Wheel Horses I have collected (so far) had somehow, someway either jumped up on my trailer or the bed of my pickup truck and followed me home. I had no choice then but to keep them. My wife says two is one too many... I say one more is never enough.
-
3 pointsif youre looking for the encouragement NOT to buy more horses you came to the wrong place haha

2 pointsToday i decided to see if i could put a plow and a deck on my 212-6 at the same time. I did put the plow on and it worked. In addition to putting the plow on i did lots of grading dirt today with it too and with weights and a deck it worked out great!

2 pointsLane, thanks to you I just got the best birthday present. My wife saw your posting about the umbrella and knew I liked it, so I got one today for my birthday. I will post a few pictures when I have it mounted.
-
2 pointsCorrect. 1990 was the first year that it was branded a "Toro" Wheel Horse. The 1990 had the motion control lever on the column and a swept front axle without steering reduction.
-
2 pointsWOW! Thanks for the Welcome and a Great big Thank You for taking the time to reply with all the info and especially getting all the measurements & even a drawing. I will be getting this project going on my spare time and will certainly let you know the results. Thanks again. Steve

2 pointsTook the horses out today. I did some tilling with my 520 and repainted my 210-H. Now we have 12 wheel horses, hoping to lower the herd to 5. Its like were breeding the horses left and right! Im looking for a NOS plow or decent condition one for my 315-8.
-
2 pointsCrawdad, No worries about over tilling here, my property is dead flat, let it rain! Oh look, I see a couplle blades of new grass in the tilled garden, sounds like a good reason to hook up roto-tiller again

1 pointI offered to repair a 48" deck for a co-worker only because its a and it turned out so good I impressed myself, so I thought id share it here with the horse crowd. He has a 1990 520 so we obviously talk a lot but he isn't nearly as into it as I am, we do gang up on another co-worker who just bought a brand new cub though . Anyway he just wanted it patched to the point it didn't throw grass at him anymore but I generally don't work like that and honestly the spots were so far gone im not even sure I could have done that. It had 3 rot through spots in the common areas, back right, back left, and front middle. I didn't intend on taking it as far as I did and have it come out this good so unfortunately I don't have any before or during pics( I really gotta get better at that) but I think the after pics I took will tell the story good enough. I hope the photos come through well and do it justice. These 2 photos show the rotten pieces I cutout and remade laying on top of the repair. These 3 show the underside which will give an idea on what I cut out. Ive learned after doing a few decks now to weld both sides and leave some weld build up on the inside for strength. I just knock a little off the top of all the welds and make sure nothings sticking up. These last ones are the finished product. I have about 6 hours total into this and did it through my hour lunch breaks only. The piece that I made to replace the entire left corner took me a full lunch break alone. I did it by hand with just a cutoff wheel dead blow hammer, and ball peen hammer. Really had fun making that piece. A tip I have is ive started to use JB weld kind of like bondo to fill in any low areas and mismatches so I don't have to grind the material so thin works pretty good. Sorry I make such long posts but I don't know how to share what I want to share in just a few sentences. Thanks for looking Paul

1 pointNice setup you've got there , besides a D250 I wanted to buy thats the only other Ive saw with multiple attachments mounted together
-
1 pointAs cold as it was(BRRRRR), I found a few items that I wanted and was glad I came. Also , It was nice to meet a few new people and connect the names with the faces.
-
1 pointI'd like to bring the 195 to the show but I already plan on hauling my 420. I really don't want to haul two heavy tractors, (and I don't think my van wants to either.)
-
1 pointJohn, I have an 84 that I got from Jordan at the show last year that has 3 pt and rear pro. That is the one my son was driving last year. The one ken bought I had at the show a few years ago when it was the featured tractor. The son was driving that one too...
-
1 pointI'm shooting for getting there around 8. Daughter is jumping on board as well. After working on the pedal last weekend, she doesn't want to miss out. (They've both been riding every day after school this week, and both are pumped up). I couldn't be happier.
-
1 pointSee if this works for you. Let me know. You may want to adjust the lift bar and where the lever goes that turns the blade. I would do the whole length first. The lift lever bar should be like right under the hole from the lift. The blade turn lever is something you may have to look at. The lever has to come up next to the tractor frame and (depending on what you have there) between the foot rest, running board and has to be able to go forward and backward enough to turn the blade. You may also have to put some bends in the lever to make it so. See the manual lever and the straight one you have. There are other members that actually have a 417-A...if they see this, they may chime in.

1 pointSweet tractor, Love the C195's , I like how a person sits high on them. :bow-blue:

1 pointGuys, Wanted to share my first attempt at a Wheel Horse restoration. Last fall I picked up this 48" deck from a fellow red square member. This deck was intended to replace the completely worn out original deck on my D-160 that has been passed down from my grandfather to me. I figured i would try to redo just a deck, before trying to redo the whole tractor. My ultimate goal is to do the entire tractor. It took me most of the winter to complete and i have to say i am pretty happy with it. I disassembled every piece and ended up stripping and sand blasting the whole thing to bare metal. The deck shell was first painted with Por-15 before painting it red. All of the hardware was replaced with new stainless steel. Now I am afraid to cut grass with it fearing i will mess up my new red paint! Deck before work. Complete with new decals Back on the D!

1 pointHey Craig, I found the outfit on ebay. Morrow tire. Most of their listings are for pairs of tires. I wanted to order three pairs of the two different types but the way their ebay listings are they can't combine and refigure shipping costs, plus I wanted tubes for all six hoops, so I called them. The guy that answered, Kane, was easy to talk with and more than willing to help cut the costs to get my business. Placed my order over the phone with him last Thursday, they arrived UPS yesterday (Wednesday). Pretty sweet. The six tires with tubes came to a tik over 300 shipped. I don't know if I got a great deal or not, didn't search here before I bought to see what anyone else's experience with them has been, but I enjoyed speaking with him and he seemed knowledgeable enough and worked with me on costs so that's enough for me to do business with him again. Hope that helps! Here's their contact info: Kane Morrow Morrow Tire 34579 Linwood Ave Slater, MO 65349 Phone 660-831-0200 Bus. Hours (Central Time): Monday-Friday 8-5 closed 12-1 for lunch email: kanemorrow@hotmail.com webstore: http://stores.ebay.com/Morrow-Tire website: www.morrowtire.com

1 pointHey 305, how about this old General model 10 ice auger from the 60s. I also collect Ohlsson & Rice powered tools. This is one of the more rare items and doesn't seem to be many still around.
-
1 pointI have a 89 520H Pictured, and my father has a 97 520H. I prefer the handle that was just like our 92 312 Classic. Just seems more natural!?!?
-
1 pointwow...that brings back memories.... that was built by my families business back in the 60's. i may have even worked on it. i have dug MANY holes with one, they actually worked pretty good after you got used to it. i see you have the trailer too , kinda spooky driving it up isn't it? they are right , it is no longer supported, but i believe they still have one at the factory. there was a supply of parts for them , but i think they all got scrapped when they moved 10-15 years ago i'm no longer associated with the business , and they are alive and doing well according to my brother
-
1 pointSo I got the 854 all "de-winterized"...weights off, plow off, tires swapped, etc. Took it for a short ride, and low and behold, my kids want to drive it. Problem being, they can't reach the pedals. Well, they were all into getting it going, and lit a fire under my butt. To the machine shop/basement we go. There was no way my daughter was going to be out done by her brother, he's 6, and she's 8) They did good for their first day driving, and machining. Lots of practice and safety to come. They are pumped to go to Zaray this weekend. Hope you all enjoy the pics.
-
1 pointI believe its an 88 or 89 520H, the 90 and up had the motion control on the column. That pic is just the older style hydro control.
-
1 pointWhy oh why would you have to give buying anther WH a second thought?

1 pointThanks for posting pictures guys! We had a great turn out for as bad as the weather was. I was side tracked and never took any pictures since I was taking care of the food stuff as well. My food vender dropped out on me about three or so weeks ago and I got my first experience on how much food to buy for get togethers like this. The larger area was a success. We got all the parts in one area and all the shoppers parked in another area. We had about 38 rigs come in to sell parts and a lot of other brands besides just WH as it usually is. I want to thank Scott Mehlberg, Mike Biser, Chuck McColley and of corse my partner Ken Stephens for all the help and advise along the way. The fall Mentone Garden Tractor Show & Swap meet is September 11th and 12th... Mark it on your calendars! And last but not least a big thanks to RedSquare for sponsoring the Mentone spring swap meet! Thanks, Gene Simpson

1 pointI know it's been a while and though the C-81's been finished for nearly a year, I finally got round to attaching the decals.
-
1 pointSorry I missed tou guys too- I got there at 730am , found what I wanted, except a couple things no one had-talked to Burly a Bit and left in the middle of a rain shower. Getting too old and busted up to stand much cold, wet anymore- we'll try again!- Thanks- Al
-
1 pointTerryM and I got there about 15 minutes after Illinilefttackle left...9:00AM. Sorry I missed you Al. Let's try for Scott's M&G in October. Sorry guys...it was too nasty for the camera and everyone was so bundled up, you could not tell one of us from the other. I got confused by Brrly1 and Jake...if that is possible. There was a good group of guys there though...got to talk with everyone. I was able to pick up all the stuff for everyone...so that was good. My wife made Beef Stew for Terry and me when we got home...great comfort food and warmed us up. Sorry about no pictures guys.

1 pointHey Guys- Back from Mentone- no pics- I didn't melt away but my "Ride" had a hard time-since my knees have decided to give up on me- I have been delegated to getting around on a "Scooter". It usually handles grass pretty well- but today the rain made the going tough- I did get a metal rear fender pan for my C-125 from Kelly & his son and 2 Deck wheels from Dave Coulter. Also met Glen Pettit , he has a great looking trailer & display tent. While Cruising around I met another "BIG Ten Fan" -Burly- from Ohio. NOTICE STEVEASARUS IS MISSING- or at least he was while I was there. I even checked the top of the Cell Phone tower that is there- but Alas- no Dino! Burly looked high & low for him- wanted to meet a fellow "ILLINI" fan. But- maybe another time. Too bad it rained so steady- I have enjoyed Mentone.

1 pointChuck, i watched the first video and realized that 12 minutes and 33 seconds was gone forever. i left this thread alone for a day or so....... then today i came back and refused to watch the hole drilling video, but the dc power supply peaked my interest just a little...... should have known better.... another 11 minutes of time wasted here...... I'm done with this thread as of right now, thats it, NO MORE..... maybe, until....... its like driving past a fatal car accident. now I'm wondering about the holes in sheet metal video.... Chuck!!!!

1 pointBob, Frame is hemlock and siding is T&G pine. Here is the update for today. With the break in the weather for the past few days I was able to back fill the wall with gravel, level out the mounted up dirt, grade the gravel a bit and finish all the gutters and downspouts except one. I was also able to get all the edge stiffeners installed to. Tomorrow I should be able to finish the last downspout. Once I get that done I may start on the roof over the entry door.
-
1 pointToday was a good dayl Cousins Timbo and Toddbo stopped over and wired up some of the lights. I was focused on working with the two roofers who helped install the rake edge metal and ridge cap. I have to say it was not easy and pretty scary as the standing seam panels are very slippery for sure. They had very specialized bracket clamps that attach to the standing seams. It was dark by the time we got that done. I still have to install the gutter straps, downspouts and snow rail. Here are a few pics showing the rake edge metal and ridge cap. I am officially watertight

1 pointThis wall is a "dry" wall with no concrete. I wanted it to have the old time look like they would have done 100 years ago. Men finished both side of the doors today and will be back next week to start/finish the retaining wall to the left side of the front door. Fireman and I went to Lowes today and picked up all the proper insulated pipe recommended by the installer. I am going overboard and installing it right our the the stove all the out the wall and up. I know that I could get away with double wall or even single off the back but not taking that chance. We also got the 49' in the barn too. She looks right at home... I have the proper amount of room behind the truck for the doorway. Kinda like it was made for it... lol

1 pointSo... good day !! Past the electrical and framing inspections this morning. Just a few small items to take care of with hand rail and covering the windows near the stairs with plexi for the final inspection. The stone wall guys came today and started on them. It started with the owner of the company and then he left one of his guys to work. Havfe to say this guy worked his tail off with no complaints. They will be back to tomorrow with a few guys. I would imagine they make a nice dent in the project. Below are some pics of the progress.
-
1 pointYesterday we got the power run from the house down to the barn. Per local code any line not buried the full 18" has to be covered with concrete. I was able to get that done (30 bags of concrete). I also cleaned up the inside a bit. It was a pure mess with sawdust and all sorts of stuff that needed cleaning. This week I hope to get some help getting the roof finished off for good. The stone mason is suppose to come this week to start the rock wall. The way that I plan on getting the tractors on and off the shelf is by using this lift. I got it from a buddy on a barter about 3 years ago in hopes that I would use it in the barn that I have been wanting to build. Well............ time has come. I was looking at a much larger lift that was portable as and that could lift a car about 5 ft in the air but the guy gave me a little bit of the run around. I think I am better off with the smaller one. The buddy I got it from had a D200 on it up in the air pretty high. It will lift the small ones with ease.
-
1 pointHere is the update as of this morning... I hope to dig the trench for the electrical between today and tomorrow. Tomorrow I am suppose to take delivery of the correct ridge cap for the standing seam metal and a few other roof detail pieces so I can finish that up. The guys will be back to hang the front door and build the bench inside. I set up a meeting with a wood stove installer to confirm the best way to do the install of the piping and location of the stove. I want to make sure it is right for sure. Lastly, the crew who will be building the rockwall in front and side will be out at some point next week to start.
