I am taking my Custom 1962 Army Horse Model 762 to a car show in Mt. Vernon Ohio this Saturday. There is a few tractors that show up every year or two for some reason, so I figured what the heck, might as well try it! Feel free to bring a Horse to the show, maybe we will take over the show one day! My buddy Packrat will bring his Custom 1963 double engine 7763 Wheel Horse too! We will be at Sugarcreek May 9th if you want to see them in person, a lot of details to look at on these one of a kind machines!

Tilled the garden for our tenants with the 416-8, I think I've found my second favorite thing to do with a Wheel Horse. This was the first time that area has been tilled in at least 55 years and I couldn't be happier with the way it came out.

I offered to repair a 48" deck for a co-worker only because its a and it turned out so good I impressed myself, so I thought id share it here with the horse crowd. He has a 1990 520 so we obviously talk a lot but he isn't nearly as into it as I am, we do gang up on another co-worker who just bought a brand new cub though . Anyway he just wanted it patched to the point it didn't throw grass at him anymore but I generally don't work like that and honestly the spots were so far gone im not even sure I could have done that. It had 3 rot through spots in the common areas, back right, back left, and front middle. I didn't intend on taking it as far as I did and have it come out this good so unfortunately I don't have any before or during pics( I really gotta get better at that) but I think the after pics I took will tell the story good enough. I hope the photos come through well and do it justice. These 2 photos show the rotten pieces I cutout and remade laying on top of the repair. These 3 show the underside which will give an idea on what I cut out. Ive learned after doing a few decks now to weld both sides and leave some weld build up on the inside for strength. I just knock a little off the top of all the welds and make sure nothings sticking up. These last ones are the finished product. I have about 6 hours total into this and did it through my hour lunch breaks only. The piece that I made to replace the entire left corner took me a full lunch break alone. I did it by hand with just a cutoff wheel dead blow hammer, and ball peen hammer. Really had fun making that piece. A tip I have is ive started to use JB weld kind of like bondo to fill in any low areas and mismatches so I don't have to grind the material so thin works pretty good. Sorry I make such long posts but I don't know how to share what I want to share in just a few sentences. Thanks for looking Paul

This really nice original condition cart found me this week. It's a 1 owner, sparingly used stored in a garge since new obviously in near new condition. Missing a knob and hub cap but those are on order already. The original paint shines nice. Couple surface rust spots on id of hopper but thats about it. Tires have some cracking but hold 30psi no problem. Been wanting one of these for some time, always liked the 1 pice wheel barrow type hopper and low profile. Best part is I sold my current cart for same I paid for this so was a wash! The original decal is on an angle, must have been built on a Monday or Friday. Here's some pictures. Still impressed with the shiney original paint! I may clean up the inside and touch up paint. MU

I made the final till today with the little 8hp and had to retire it until some open heart surgery. She started to sound like a diesel. But I was able to finish and installed my mini green houses and got the tomatoes out. I had to eat a lot of ice cream but the pay off is worth it. If it gets cold just put the lids on

Rinsed off three of the 6 Burbs today. The RJ's might have gotten a little jealous. I gotta get the correct decals for the 61 in the middle. I better give Terry a shout.

Bought this at the auction on Saturday. If I feed it will it grow or will I have to throw it back ? Took the plug out and filled it with WD40 All I had figure better than nothing. Motors stuck trans shifts and seems to work Deck turns and came with push blade

So I got the 854 all "de-winterized"...weights off, plow off, tires swapped, etc. Took it for a short ride, and low and behold, my kids want to drive it. Problem being, they can't reach the pedals. Well, they were all into getting it going, and lit a fire under my butt. To the machine shop/basement we go. There was no way my daughter was going to be out done by her brother, he's 6, and she's 8) They did good for their first day driving, and machining. Lots of practice and safety to come. They are pumped to go to Zaray this weekend. Hope you all enjoy the pics.

I like it but..... it is still not a chevy.... Hopefully it will be able to pull that trailer with a little load on it. lol The pic with the RJ in the back looks like it is squatting a little too

I stopped by a local garage today to check on some work I am having done there. These fellows have been into all kinds of stuff over the years, including garden tractor pulling. They do quality work and when they were pulling, they were winners. They got out of the actual pulling but are still doing fab work and painting. I saw this "custom" hood being made, but was sad to see a roundhood cut up for just a small portion of it being used. Here is the photo.

KC9KAS asked what my favorite thing to do with my Wheel Horse is it's blowing snow and we had plenty here in MA last winter, I was in my glory moving it all with my 418-8 and single stage blower.

Those tillers really can do a great job on a Wheel Horse. I like them a lot too! Changing oil in mine right now on the 1979 C-121. I hope to be tilling on some still wet ground by Saturday ! Finally getting some somewhat descent weather days here !

Real nice combo Will and hey, you even got Stevebo's stamp of approval! I would try at all costs not to use your trailer on wet roads in the winter if they have been treated with the calcium they dump all over the roads. I got caught out in a little storm in Mass. while picking up my 420 and the roads were just treated. I was more concerned about that crap eatin my van alive (I don't normally drive it in the winter) but it was my trailer that went to poop real quick! Its like I came outside and didn't even recognize it one day it was all covered in rust.

I appreciate the concern JA. I have nothing but respect for machines. Just a little backround..I am a third generation machinist and the mill he's using, is the one my father taught me on when I was young as well. I am in my 26th year at Excello Tool, foreman of two departments, and have mentored over 10 kids thru their apprentiships. I have to say that I have learned way more from my father at home, than I ever did in 4 years of machine tool at Platt tech high school. I do understand that pictures don't do justice most times, but my son is taking .040 cuts with a 1/2 stub rougher. Believe me, no way is that thing letting go. If you look at the setup again, I was teaching him to not blindly mill the pocket, and to make sure he was watching the cut. He couldn't have see what he was doing, or turn the handles, from any other position (mostly due to his physical size). Please don't think I'm getting defensive as I do know in the wrong hands, or lack of experience, these are very dangerous machines as I have see first hand, (as is any tool or tractor really). I believe if you introduce kids to things and experiences in the right manner, they will be better off and safer in the long run. I genuinely appreciate your concern, and congratulate you on a successful long career in the same trade.

I bought my first Wheel Horse. After sanding on the hood lightly where there was a long sticker under it. I was able to read "Lawn Ranger." From everything I could find tells me it must be a 68 Lawn Ranger. Someone has taken off the old engine, removed the choke, and throttle cables and put a different throttle cable on the side. Removed the ignition switch and kill switch, hinged the hood/grill, cut up the hood to get the engine to fit and put a gas tank on it where it doesn't fit where the fill hole is. I also believe I am missing parts to my mowing deck. Also the belt guard is missing My cousin is a fabricator and going to see if he can fix the hood for me. I already got a hold of another member about picking up the correct motor/gas tank next week. I start stripping the paint off this weekend. Now if anyone believes this tractor to be a different model/year please let me know. This is all based on a sticker I found under some spray paint.

Well it has been forever that I have wanted to build a nice barn to store my horses and work on them. Yesterday was the day that I started this long project. I will use this thread to document the progression. I anticipate this will be a several month build. Here is the start !

Got my winter project mocked up today. It's frame is a1973 no name 8hp. 1967 Lawn Ranger hood stand & front axle & wheels. With a David Bradley Hood. I got a long way to go but I think it will be cool.

I am fairly new to all thing WH, I have a C101 thats in great condition apart from the need for paint and a decent tyre set, but yesterday I offered money for another one! As it happens he countered with £50 more than my offer. Now I still think its a good deal, but I haven't given any thought to how I'm going to collect it or where I'm going to store it, but i'm still soooo tempted to pull the pin! And to top it off I have a need and a chance to buy a hedge trimmer for the same amount of cash, and I'm struggling with what to do.

wow...that brings back memories.... that was built by my families business back in the 60's. i may have even worked on it. i have dug MANY holes with one, they actually worked pretty good after you got used to it. i see you have the trailer too , kinda spooky driving it up isn't it? they are right , it is no longer supported, but i believe they still have one at the factory. there was a supply of parts for them , but i think they all got scrapped when they moved 10-15 years ago i'm no longer associated with the business , and they are alive and doing well according to my brother

It's a great candidate for a foot control conversion.
  28. 1 point
I use to own an '89 and a '90 520-H. In my opinion, the motion control lever on the '89 (like the one pictured) with the motion control between the legs was easier to operate as opposed to on the steering column.

You probably loose a bit of motion from that nail in there instead of a spring pin. That little extra slop might contribute to the finicky system. I wouldn't do any more adjustments until I fixed that because you will just need to readjust it all when you do it anyway. Just my If Bob (rmaynard) pops his head in here he did a complete overhaul on a 416 with motion control issues. He may have some good insights.

Gotta love contractors digging. When they were putting in the foundation for our new bldg., They hit the main lines from the Generator to the switch gear like 3 times. Then when digging for the new switch gear they broke a pipe. It was dry so they thought no problem. Turned out is was connected to a main roof drain and when we had a storm, A conference room filled up with about a foot of water. Then these same guys whilst digging for some outdoor lighting, cut through a 3" gas line! But the best for me was I was in a basement ready to go up an elevator. I heard a scraping noise and the light above me came down followed by an excavator bucket and sparks! I just missed getting hit. If I did, I might be retired now.

Happy Friday, gents! Excellent tip, Jake, thanks for the sage words of advice! Thanks too for shipping those gaskets out, I appreciate it. Brandon, great idea. I wondered what the heck those little crowns were beneath some guys avatars. Thanks for the link, I'll get right on it! Cool, crisp Autumnal-esque morning here, looking forward to it warming up so I can just laze around the front porch in the sun like the old dog I want to be. Although, with the forecast calling for mostly cloudy and wind chills in the mid 20's to 30's today may just be an inside day. The last couple days up on my feet of and on at Jeffs' has my leg fighting back. Maybe head over to check out the progress on my wheels, then go see the sandblaster. Head Home and take it easy. Youngest daughter is Home, down for a Spring Break visit from where she lives on the cape. Leaves again tomorrow so it'll be nice to hang out with her for a few hours today. You guys with kids still at Home, love on 'em. Despite how much trouble they give you, how much they argue and push back, no matter how many times the Police become involved or they go off to rehab draining every single penny from your accounts and have you leveraging your very Home to try and keep them from dying. Before you know it they'll be grown and gone. Hopefully and through the Grace of God, clean, sober and most importantly, alive. And you know, maybe just maybe, they'll come Home one day after not seeing or hearing from them in two years, stop everything, share with you their milestones of accomplishments, apologize for putting you through hell and just say thank-you. Love on 'em. Grace and peace, my friends here at RS. Enjoy this glorious day!

Fireman came over this past weekend and helped me get the huge beam in place and set up the pulley/trolley system. Today I spent the day building the railing system around the stairs on the upper level and started to bring down some of my antique outboard collection.... Good day.

Guys- No plans for indoor facilities however there are 3 doors and a few windows going it.... Today the men were here installing rafters. They did not work yesterday. Tomorrow they should have the rafters finished and start installing the t&g decking. A week from this Saturday I have another crew coming over to help me install the standing seam roof panels. Anyone interested in stopping over I need to install the siding .... I finished all the curtain drainage around the building and then graded off the ground. I seeded and placed hay over it then rolled it. I would think that in the spring I may have to till and reseed the entire area around the barn. We are simply running out of grass growing time fo rthie year but wanted to get something growing. Here are the updated pics.

Today I was able to get moving on back filling the foundation after the crew removed the forms. I am just about out of the dirt that I dug out of the hole. I will be calling for more fill to be delivered this week.

When its heavy snow I'm wide open. With a little rolling speed you'll gain momentum and will be less likely too lose traction. My little Wheel Horse 604 pushed its guts out this past winter. Of course the bigger the tractor and the more ponies it has you can tone it down some.
