My son mowed for the first time yesterday. He has been plowing for years with his Charger 12. He graduated to the big guy now. Its been awhile since we last used it to plow. About a month or so to be exact. I was under the impression these had the 10 pinion limited slip transaxle in them and it always spun 1 wheel when it lost traction with a huge head of snow. I figured it was cooked because after plowing for awhile it gradually got slower and hotter as well.... After doing some research it had a Sundstrand 90-2046 not the 90-2062 it was supposed to have. I was able to pick up a 90-2062 Sundstrand hydrogear and swap them out. What pain in the hoosegow that was. But it now runs and drives again. I had some steering issues I had to work out but its pretty square now. At least for the time being. I really want to find a new/rebuilt steering column and probably going to repaint the whole tractor again. Its definitely a hard working machine and has won a soft spot in both of our hearts. So here he is mowing for the first time yesterday. I will say I dont like how the old style mower mounts. I wish I could swap out a tach a matic system. The mower doesn't float like I'm used to..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kEYp8tLgIw

Picked this C-195 up over the week-end from one of the members here. This WH has been used, abused, and re-used.The first 2 pics are before it got a bath.Actually 2 baths with the pressure washer. The other pics are after it was semi clean.I'm going to do a meachanical resto on it and leave the cosmetics as is.I kinda like the way it looks.I bought a new fender pan with the tractor.I'll put that on and a new used seat I have.I need a choke cable for it.NLA from Parts Tree.Anybody got a new or good used one?It also needs a rear axle seal real bad.I like the name someone gave the tractor(Last Pic).

My wish list is very short But a 754 was on the short list. Never really thought I could get one. But you never know right. Last Sept. a friend of mine said he had one he was thinking of selling. I told him I wanted it. So then from the guy who bought it. I found out he bought it a couple of years ago. Do to my friends age I figure he for got about selling it. Along comes last Saturday he says I'm ready to sell that 754. Ok when can I come & get it? So on Monday before I leave I call. He says I'm sorry I must of sold it. That's ok I kinda knew this. Then a couple days later one shows up on Facebook. It's in my garage now.

I drive a Toro Dingo on a regular basis with the same exact drive system. You may be at a bit of a disadvantage because you machine looks to be wider than it is long. That will make the bucking WAY worse. Here was a huge ticket that I finally convince my dad of: tires. He never wanted to spend the money so kept getting tractor ags like you have there. They would bounce around like heck and he'd be going through one set a year (he used his mostly for trenching). You need to get tires designed for the skid steer application. They are more durable to the wear of turning and they are also stiffer which SIGNIFICANTLY helps with the steering issues on pavement and hard surfaces. We are currently on year 5 or 6 of the one set of tires and they will probably be due for replacement next year or so. (They do ~750 hrs a year mostly loading and unloading on pavement, so yours will last for a LONG time) Carlisle makes a few types but these are the Trac-Chiefs (what we used on ours) : http://www.carlisletransportationproducts.com/product/tires/ag-construction/trac-chief

So I have to start by saying this is a complete debacle of a tractor, and if any of the purists out there hate the sight 3 or more tractors melded into one, look away now. This thing is rough, and I want to just fix it enough to use it right now. So I bought a 520 front end. This is going to be a snow machine, so I wanted the gear reduction steering to handle the 2 stage. Everything else is basic maintenance aside from the rear axle seals, and a little wiring. Gonna try to use this guy in conjunction with the 48" dozer blade to try and top coat and spread some loam once it's running. The front end went in extremely easy. The frame was already drilled in 4 spots, and everything lines up nice. Put in new bearings and races on the wheels. Thanks again shuboxlover! Found the wrong spring in the break assembly as well. I know I found some other folks on the site with a very similar issue while do some searching. Make sure you have the correct spring. If anyone wants a comparison pic, please let me know. Whelp, thanks for reading.

Thanks for posting pictures guys! We had a great turn out for as bad as the weather was. I was side tracked and never took any pictures since I was taking care of the food stuff as well. My food vender dropped out on me about three or so weeks ago and I got my first experience on how much food to buy for get togethers like this. The larger area was a success. We got all the parts in one area and all the shoppers parked in another area. We had about 38 rigs come in to sell parts and a lot of other brands besides just WH as it usually is. I want to thank Scott Mehlberg, Mike Biser, Chuck McColley and of corse my partner Ken Stephens for all the help and advise along the way. The fall Mentone Garden Tractor Show & Swap meet is September 11th and 12th... Mark it on your calendars! And last but not least a big thanks to RedSquare for sponsoring the Mentone spring swap meet! Thanks, Gene Simpson

Definitely not a keeper in New York but don't throw it back. Just bring it to the big show and I'll bring it to a nice warm climate and nurse it to maturity.

Thanks Wheel-N-It, my pleasure. Was glad to give up my M1, no more thumb crushes! The well known M1 Thumb! Picked up an off brand tractor just 'cause it was goin' to scrap. More play time for the grandsons, '66 Allis Chalmers B-10. Came with snow/dozer blade, mid-mount grader, rear PTO tiller, mower deck. Engine runs, 10 hp Briggs.

Well, Honda did make a 650 turbo version of the engine... If one of those should happen to "drop on my lap" (highly unlikely), then it would be rude not to swap engines It could be underpowered. I'd guess it maybe weighs the same as the complete bike and I've still more stuff to add. A little bit more progress has been made... Brake pedal moved inwards a bit and what will be the throttle in place.. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one.. As you know I am using two bike master cylinders for WN's brakes, one front brakes, one rear, but I also need a way to set the balance on them, or more braking at the back than the front as it's otherwise known.. I did look at brake bias valves but other than Chinese cheap rubbish they were all rather expensive! I could of built a linkage using cams to apply different pressure to each master cylinder until a thought hit me.. As you will of seen by the photo in my last post I had been thinking of having the MC's next to each other... But what would happen if one was above the other? Taaa Daa The higher you go up the lever the more it goes forward, so the top MC (rear brakes) gets more pressure and sooner than the bottom (front brakes) MC All I need to do is weld the MC frame to the chassis, change the lever bit for something a bit stronger and connect it via a rod to the brake pedal.. A little fine tuning will be needed I expect, but I'm rather hopeful this system will work I'd finish this update with a song, but as I don't want to scare you all away have a video instead

Well I just got back from a 5 hour round trip!! Got the whole package for 500 bucks!! One tractor is pretty rough with over 3000 hours on the meter but the other is much better with just over 800 hours. The rd deck is rusty but really solid and seems to have everything in working order. The 48 has 2 holes in typical spot but other then that it's good. Plow is ok but the blade is kinda bent somehow? Also got a set of tire chains. Looking forward to start tinkering to see what I really got. I'm guessing I should have no problem getting 1 good 417 that I'll hopefully refurbish to a really nice machine. I really really like the look and style of these 417's. I intended to pick up a plow before next winter anyway and it never hurts to have extra decks. As u could imagine I'm really happy with this haul. Got a few pics of the loaded trailer and will add more as I go.

So guys, I took off the carb to my Charger 12, and I found something I didn't expect to see. It was a bit different than other carbs I've worked on. It seems to be a Walbro WHG 52. After some research it seems that this is not the original carb or even one similar. It seems as if these came on the later magnum engines. I also read that with these carbs, the older K series engines should be ran at 3200 RPM to avoid the air fuel mixture being wrong because the main fuel jet of this carb is non-adjustable. Now, I don't really have any problems with this, except that I bought a carb kit to clean/rebuild it, but I have no idea what 4 of the parts are that came with the kit. I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Two are little brass caps, and two look like some other type of caps (I've included pictures to help). And I have a feeling after looking over the carb that they are caps or covers of some sort. I think they are visible in the picture I took of the carb. The larger round ones are right next to each other (under the idle set screw), and one little brass one is where the main fuel screw would normally be, and the other one is on the other side of the carb. Am I correct, and is it necessary to take out the old ones and replace them? If so, how do you do this? Thanks guys! I appreciate your input!

I started on my Dads 12 Automatic at 9 years old. Jeb is 9 so i figured he was ready. I've seen his control get much better over the last 3 years of plowing so mowing was his next hurdle

Neither did I, even tried a brand new Kohler diode, new volt meter on the tractor, new battery etc.... I still had 16 volts at the battery measured with a multimeter . Since this circuit off the stator was for charging only I put an on /off switch in on the dash and let the battery get down for a few starts .....seems to help ....last time out I charged at 14.5 volts or so, if it tops out I'll cut it off

This is obviously quite light for the 520-H, but I figured I'd post a video anyway. This is pulling a weighted prowler back into position at a strongman competition. I wasn't driving it because I was competing. It was put on by the gym I go to, so I let them use it.

Thanks to all that have replied as a new member to this org. I'm looking forward to getting to know people that have knowledge on these tractors. As stated I want to refurbish my Gt1600 workhorse excellent tractor but needs lots of tlc. learning alot thought it was a 416-8 wheelhorse. Was told basically same except motor. Well being new finding out lots of stuff. thanks again two horser

I have been following along your 420 find/repair and I think that this is an excellent way to go. To repair or replace all the chrome that was destroyed or missing would have cost thousands of dollars, and still not have been "original" so why not make the best you can of what you had! I for one am glad to see a 420 worker. Many of the others are too nice to work and since they are collectable many never will. You get the best of both worlds, a M20 engine on a tractor you can work. Keep this thread updated as you go, I am really looking forward to it. And PLEASE post a video of your M20 machine when you are done. And if you ever feel the need to do give up and do an engine swap, put me on the list to take your M20. That's an engine worth putting a full rebuild on!

You made my day, couple of years ago I found (1 ) 1533 NOS on E-bay and gave 50 bucks for it ......had no idea Toro was getting that for 1 bearing .

It just amazes me that there isn't another application in the whole wide world that uses that size bearing.

Sorry I missed tou guys too- I got there at 730am , found what I wanted, except a couple things no one had-talked to Burly a Bit and left in the middle of a rain shower. Getting too old and busted up to stand much cold, wet anymore- we'll try again!- Thanks- Al

such nice work..........hope you put a kill switch on it just in case...

As said, if yours are useable at all just keep them. Being cleaned up and running fresh oil, one that may have felt a bit rough would last for quite a long time, especially if the tractor doesnt see heavy duty. If yours are really rough check the sources shown.

illinilefttackle : Thanks for posting ! Your daughter took some very good pictures. I took a few but I did not get around until later in the morning. Here are a few more for folks to see.

I can tell you lot's of items sold too. We got there late morning and half the stuff in those pictures was no longer there. Early bird gets the worm. We did find some great deal on parts though. Wanted to buy an RJ, but the ones remaining were either not for sale or priced too high. Fun time though.

TerryM and I got there about 15 minutes after Illinilefttackle left...9:00AM. Sorry I missed you Al. Let's try for Scott's M&G in October. Sorry guys...it was too nasty for the camera and everyone was so bundled up, you could not tell one of us from the other. I got confused by Brrly1 and Jake...if that is possible. There was a good group of guys there though...got to talk with everyone. I was able to pick up all the stuff for everyone...so that was good. My wife made Beef Stew for Terry and me when we got home...great comfort food and warmed us up. Sorry about no pictures guys.

There's a member here who lives in the town. I believe that he has Sprint and that coverage at the show is very poor. When I was there last year, I had Verizon (have AT&T now) and they had great coverage. It's my understanding that Verizon is about the only carrier with good service at the show, but of course these things change regularly.

I'll bet you that the key was left "on" in the tractor with 3000 hours. Nice score for short money! Mike........

WOW! ANother Great swap meet. No pictures either, very busy meeting people, and new people, talking, and selling. I got there last night, Friday and had the canopy & tables setup by 9:00, only a very light rain then. Slept in the jeep, woke up about 7am and probably 12 pickups with big trailers arrived during the night, silently . . . must have been 60 sellers all set up by 9am. Seemed like everyone was busy all morning, and it rained and kept raining, sometimes very light, sometimes so-so, I measured about 1/2". Many sellers started leaving about 1pm and the crowds slowed way down. Nice bonfire Friday evening. Excellent large site, very easy to find, well marked, lots of directional signs. Gene & Ken even had rolls and coffee ready very early in the morning, and then a nice lunch (hot dogs, hamburgs, drinks, etc.) in late morning. A very nice get together, lots of tractors and parts, lots of 'regulars' and it seemed to me that there were a lot of new, never-been-to-a-Wheel Horse-show people. Great Job Gene & Ken:

Finally managed to get a bit more done on the Horse. I have manufactured a new deck stand centre section to replace the badly corroded one. New seals were fit in the transmition and everything bottomed, primed and given a nice coat of shiny red paint. A few items have been replaced on the chassis ready for the deck stand to be painted and mounted. So a little progress has been made. On another note I went with my friend yesterday to pick up another WH for him, it has a number of attachments to go with it, these being a rototiller, two cutting decks, a snow plough and a single furrow plough, all WH items. Some of them may be for sale if they are of interest. Cheers for now, MartinH

Scrumpy, Point it down it will be a foot warmer when you are pushin' snow. Point it up you'll get the fumes in your face depending on how tall you stack is or depending on how tall you are. Basically I think that would be your preference. See Ya, Bye Burly :)
