7 pointsIt seems like every year during the winter months I find the best wheel horse tractors models you possible can find and buy. You would think summertime more would be available for sale because of the warm months. Nope not me the best I ever find where during the nasty hard cold winter months. First one was a Wheel horse 520hc pretty rare tractor in my neck of the woods. It was the day before are big buffalo lake effect snow of 7 feet! Late November. Great score with 60 inch deck. Second one Wheel horse 520 with 389 hours that came in December also with 60 inch deck. I spend 3 hours digging this one out the price was right!! Trust me.... Third one was the cadillac the Wheel Horse 420lse came in January and I think it was -2 outside and I was the craziest guy at the car wash trying to get the road salt of it before I parked it on my garage. Awesome score never thought I would find one. Espically I thought a buddy was joking with me on this model but turn out to be the real thing!! also a 2 stage snowblower came with it. The 4th one not to rare but a cool find for me a 309 safari wheel horse snowmobile came out of Pennsylvania in early January as me and my friend went down he broke my passenger side window so we had to drive back with rain and wind going through the window lol. It's all good we made it back safe.... So I hate to day I'm going to miss this Winter 2014-2015 of rare finds for me for my collection. Also of course Ill never forget a November lake effect snowstorm of 7 feet of snow! still haven't seen any pics of my wheel horse snow team in any tractor magazine yet lol....... Thanks Shawn

3 pointsHey guys, I just wanted to drop in and say I havent forgotten everyone here. I dont really get on any more forums, as I can get my garden tractor fix from the many groups on Facebook these days. I know many arent on there, so I wanted to share my pictures I took this past weekend in Marietta SC, at the Robertsons Farm. Vince_O hosted the plow day and put on another great one. The dirt could have used one more day to dry out, but I think we hit it just about right, as we would have been sucking in a lot of dust had it been any dryer. The plows went through like a hot knife on warm butter. We couldnt have asked for a better day of plowing on Saturday. Friday was a little rough in the corn stubble, but Saturday was amazing in the bean fields. We had a total of 30 tractors there, and turned 21 acres in about 6 hours with plenty of BS sessions mixed in. Its possible there will be one in the fall, but definitely one next spring with much more notice. This one was thrown together at the last minute with about 3 weeks notice. Not a bad turn out considering. On to the pictures!.... Ill also include a link to my photobucket for more: http://s1023.photobucket.com/user/Il...C%20Plow%20Day

3 pointsWell, I can see the blue Cherenkov glow, so you're gettin' the gammas o.k. Can't be too much wrong!
-
3 pointsWell you know, I just happen to have one of those in my recently acquired very very rare Wheel Horse 520HCA(Hydro-commercial-atomic)... She wont start, and these men in black SUV's keep stopping by. They aren't very helpful!

3 pointsSpeaking of hospital food, I had a co-worker many years ago who broke his jaw. It was wired for a time and he was on liquids. His yearning for a Burger King "Whopper" had his wife put one in a blender to bring to him. The hospital food tasted better after that!

3 pointsGreat contribution Rob and other Skype menbers, thanks Jim D keep your positive attitude. Rick

3 points"readiness and ability to respond with help with so much more than our Wheel Horse tractors." When it all comes down to the nitty gritty, isn't that what it's all about? Although the tractors are the common bond, the friendship and love for fellow brothers is what is at the heart of it all. May God bless you in some way throughout all this. Take care my friend, Richie

3 pointsI had a kind of length reply typed up and the post never went through. This WiFi is sketchy. Comes and goes. I can't figure out how to get saved content on th is kindle to try a repost. I know I can't remember all the gratitude I expressed for Redsquare's readiness and ability to respond with help with so much more than our Wheel Horse tractors. It was great to meet Rob and get to know him better. He's a great guy. Thank you all. :)

3 pointsIt was excellent talking with JimD on Skype today...a Huge Thanks to RMCIII (Rob) for doing this. Rob was in the room with Jim with his lap top and set it up. Jim had a few of his friends there with him also. We shared screens with Brrly1 and C-101plowerpower (Koen) from the Netherlands. Here is a couple of pictures...the quality is OK, but not great. Rob on the left and Jim on the right this might be a better picture Koen Prayers still with you my friend.

2 pointsOur back yard visitor. He is a cross between a coyote and a red fox. He is larger then a red fox and has the tail of a coyote. Talking to some old timers that said he was considered a red coyote.

2 pointsNo - I did not have the luxury of partaking of such eloquent dainty morsels. I need an emoticon that is throwing up!
-
2 pointsRob, did you get to sample the Hospital cuisine? I spend 40-50 hours a week in a hospital. I'm sure Uncle Jim is chomping at the bit to get out. Great seeing him again and thanks to the Dino for the picture relay.

2 pointsI mounted a rear scraper blade on my JB sleeve hitch for pulling snow away from garage doors this winter. It can be set to float or be solid. I also have to regrade a stretch of a ditch and plan on using this when I get the cab off. So I can see what I'm doing.

2 pointsDo you know why Iowa doesn't have beauty contests? A fluffy cow might win. Just kidding! Thinking of you, Jim.
-
2 pointsAs Garry mentioned, use a 5/16" roll pin and drive a 3/16" inside it. Service Bulletin #62 addressed this.

1 pointThe little adapter kit for the cameras finally showed up after a long journey and...... has the wrong connectors. Ordered adapters to save time and money so just waiting for those to show up now. Once those show up, I'll connect some cameras and send a live shot to youtube to see how it goes. We still need a mobile camera to get those close up shots to make it a bit more entertaining.

1 pointThat's the winter trailer I used that one for a beatiful salt season in buffalo. The other three stay nice and salt free

1 pointIf you are a member of the Yahoo manuals Groups in particular Group 1_1 https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/wheelhorsetractormanuals1_1/conversations/messages there is a searchable Database Table there with 4,524 entries. Enter a part number and a description comes up. Since Yahoo changed the format 2 years ago it is nearly impossible to navigate the Groups but I'm just now getting the tables to work if I have time to wait. Garry

1 pointThe J-channel way is probably the way to go...seriously Don. If you want to make your own...half round PVC may work for you.
-
1 pointTrust me paul I feel bad on that 520h but she was weird about selling it. I just hate to see it waste away. So I pulled some charmed and photos on what I due. If you ever need anything Ill take care of you. Thanks shawn

1 pointThe ones on the Work Horse, above, are 27w each. IIRC the 4411 lights are rated at 35w.

1 pointGreat to watch our national bird , so amazing. For you that want to see two eagles fighting on a dead deer and hundreds of bird pictures go to Mackinac county birds. Local fellow put this together. I have a few rare birds on this site. These are only local area birds taken in our Mackinac county of upper Michigan.
-
1 pointThe power consumption is very low on the LED's so this is certainly a need for some of the smaller tractors.
-
1 pointTo find out how a RF 110 mows, try the John Deere sites. Here are a few: WFM: http://www.wfmachines.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/18-Round-Fendered-Tractors GTT: http://www.greentractortalk.com/forums/round-fender-tractors/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/243581455803661/ I currently owned 5 John Deere round fenders, from a '64 110 to a '67 112. But I never mow with them as I have newer equipment for that. From the things I read though, they do mow pretty well considering the technology is over 50 years old now. For the day they were manufactured in, they were great mowing machines as were several of that era's competitors, including Wheel Horse and Cub Cadet.

1 pointWhen I was blasting ceramic lasted for just a few hours. Carbide lasted for weeks http://www.tptools.com/Skat-Blast-Carbide-Nozzle-Pack,287.html?b=d*8024

1 pointI think we're answering the question a little differently from what the op is asking. I assume he's asking about the differences in the two mid mount blades: the older 40" pull type that mounts in the mower deck hitch, and the newer 50" push type that mounts to the same rear axle mount as the snowplow and tiller. In my opinion, the larger 50" pusher type is better suited to the large 520 tractor. They are heavier and are heavier duty as well. Easy to mount, can be angled from the seat (sort of) and ought to cover the full tractor width when angled. Front mount snow blades aren't good for leveling. If you have loose material and drop the blade then drive in reverse they do a fair job. But I think they're a bit limited in what they can do for grading and grooming. Steve
-
1 pointI tore up some ground and used that mid-mount grader blade with excellent results. The area had a couple feet of height difference in sections plus many high and low spots. I let the blade kinda float and used the raising handle to control the depth I wanted. You get the feel for it. It's easy. I also have the snow plow and it can come close to doing the job of the grader. The grader was on a C85 and had no problem pushing dirt.

1 pointOH!!! Come now! I dare to challenge the "at least 1 still works". If you really must know, I planned 2 weeks in advance, to meet Jim and Skype with Steve and anyone else that wanted to wish Jim a happy, healthy recovery..... I detest that lonesome statement from a lonesome NY individual who is still looking for the way back home!!!! No, but serious for anyone following this thread. Jim was in AWESOME spirits today. I am amazed by his joy and compassion he extends to others in his time of need. Jim and I had a nice quiet time together...< That is not for anyone to make any SNYDE comments about. Serious, if you do, I will ask Karl to block you. I have never mentioned that in any thread. But this is different.... Jim; my heart and prayers go out to you and your family. I had the privilege to meet a wonderful, classy, optimistic, caring, loving individual today! I am the one who walked away blessed.... I look forward to the next time we can fellowship together.... Rob

1 pointFinally got it out for a ride today. Still have several things to go back and fix, and put my new back tires on, but glad to have it going for now. Runs and drives awesome.
-
1 pointOk, I understand now - to expand the 5/16 and prevent it from crushing to create slop.. thanks!
-
1 pointJust about all the replies have nailed it, but no one told you how to tell if the ground is too wet to plow. I was always told, pick up a handful of soil and squeeze it in your hand, if it makes a meatball that will not fall apart, it is probably too wet. If it falls apart, it is just right for plowing. The problem with plowing wet soil is that you compact it and all the air is squeezed out of the soil under the tractor. The water then does not drain well and the plant roots cannot breathe.
-
1 pointThe Wheel horse 420lse cleanup nicely with a nice cold spring day wash. I'm going to have to do a little painting to it ethier way. I hate to do that I wanted to keep it bone stock like a survivor style. The main painting will just be frame, rear end and battery box area. Also little engine paint too. The main panels like the hood and rear fender are staying orginal.
-
1 pointIf your making a long single row garden you nailed it!! Just kidding....I've never owned or operated a plow like that, but the guys on this site will get ya straightened out! Mike..........
-
1 pointYeah, that's really it Steve. To me this thread kinda pointed that out, just looking at the topic then reading the posts, it became a supportive thread which helps strengthen the community.

1 pointI've been putting off saying something in several of these threads but enough is enough! Take it from someone who has only been here 5 months, it is getting worse! I can't believe we are supposed to be examples to younger Wheel Horse people and this is what they get!? Any one especially my age or older should be damn ashamed of themselves! I come here to relax and some nights this place seems like a soap opera or a bunch of kindergardeners fighting over something stupid! Makes me want to leave sometimes! My dad taught me better and said it best and you should all take heed - If you don't have something good to say don't say anything at all! I'm sure all the mods and most eveyone here would agree! You guys constantly bickering over stupid stuff is something we could all do without. Do it in PMs if you most but let the rest of us enjoy our time here.

1 pointSorry for the ;lack of progress on this, but not been feeling very good lately. If the weekend goes well, I will try to shoot some clear on Monday, and get back to work on it. Stay tuned!!
