Hi everyone,sorry there hasn't been much news. I needed some time to get my head around all that has happened this week. I have been transferred to university hospital in Cleveland. Suffice it to say the news was not the best. I have developed acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Say that three times real fast, eh.I'm not in dire situation they say, and I feel pretty good at the moment. I will be here for a few weeks for treatment. I can't thank you all enough for your kindness and prayers. I am grateful and humbled. That's all for now. Wish me luck. Jim

Ok, who can give me information on and a few pictures of a 1957 rj. Here is what happened today and it falls under the catagory of dumb luck. my wife joined a neighborhood community on the computer a few weeks back. She has been pestering me to join. I took a look on the site and said what the heck. So today I joined up. At first I thought it was just a group of old hens yapping it up. No sir, it wasnt, plenty of fellas to. I said to myself, what the heck. So I put up a wheel horse wanted ad, anything wheel horse related. Less that an hour later I get a response from an older gent. He has 2 wheel horse, might consider getting rid of them both. They are in a back shed thats buried in snow. We need a melt off to get to them. One is the 1957 rj with plow and the other is a 1998 12 hp model kf which he forgets. The 57 was bought brand new by his father. He has a few attachments for each, but cant remember what all is there for each. who wants to school me on each and maybe a few pictures to. To say I am excited is a understatement. They can be junk or jewels. And even if junk a diamond in the rough. Thanks fellas. Dumb luck happens sometimes dont it. Glenn

I'll second what Ken said. I've seen it first hand someone tipped their hand about a barn find Wheel Horse and gave out a little too much info. When he showed up to get it, it had been sold out from under him to someone who had seen the post he made and figured out where it was. Unfortunately some people have no scruples.

Glenn , Steve is right , the geezer is now searching the Internet to find out What he can about his tractors , it won't be long before he knows what he has got . Even worse he could email a guy to come over to take a look to give him a valuation. " Hey presto " the guy says he sold it to some dude that he emailed on the Internet . Strike while the iron is hot , Early bird catches the worm Don't wait till the ice thaws , get back over there , check out what tractors he really has , leave the guy a cash deposit & make them yours. All year round mowing is necessary although it does slow up a bit during the summer months as the ground dries out. 520-H with 60" deck takes between 3 1/2 to 4 hours each session with a few 'hot' refuelling stops.... Good 'seat' time.... it's therapeutic ;o)

16 degrees today in Wales, and I couldn't resist. I've cut my lawn for the first time with the Once I'd adjusted the cut it was all go. I got half way through and then a sudden drop in power, oh no I thought, but as I looked at the engine I noticed the wire on the coil had come off. 2mins later and I was off again Very happy owner

Just a update for all of you with the shakes. I have the jitters myself. We have a great 56 degree day here today. Snow is melting. The owner did not want to head out to the rear shed yet. He just wasnt willing. Thats ok, I can wait a few days or so. He seems hesitent a bit, guess cause his dad bought it new so he has memories and ties to it. So lets see what transpires. Will keep you guys posted. btw, thought I saw a truck with craig driving and a guy that looked like ken in the back of it, standing up holding the roll bar, with big binoculars scanning around. Thanks for posting in here Jim...I did not really know what was wrong and they were starting to bid on your bed pan. You are going to want to paint that thing RED, I think Terry Dennis can make up a suitable decal for it. Who knows...it just might pay all the bills. Good luck my friend and hang in there. I agree that I would not wait to get over there and dig a path. I have been there before myself. Last year I loaded up my 520 with plow on the trailer and drove to an older guy's house to plow a path around the side and back of the house to pull out his late father's 1054 with mower deck mounted. Pulled it out with the 520 and loaded it up on trailer. Then headed back and loaded up the 520 and called it done. If you wait then he will start to do some research and you know how that goes..... Here is my 57' I got from the show last year and a few others who are still in the Red Square family...

I agree Bert. I know I have learned a lot from following this thread. I have seen boilermakers do some amazing compound shaping of heavy turbine blades (2-6"thick steel) using torches and compressed air for rapid heat/cooling of the metal. But I was not aware the same stretching and shrinking of light gage metal could be done with the planishing hammers and shrinking discs.

Kinda weird but the intake valve was sck open....just stuck open!? No blockage. Just a lot of buildup. So I bumped the valve a couple times with my hand (kinda firm). And it went back in! Cleaned it all up lubed everything, gutted and cleaned the fuel filter, broke then replaced plug wires, and she fired up for the first time In 2+ years!! But as I expected also JB weld gave way toward the end of cleaning out the lines, and it's time to get a new starter. But I'm glad I made sure the tractor was runnable before I spent $$

Could you send us a pic of blade and malfit on bracket. The D series under axel attachment I believe is different; it has notch to front. All the others I've seen only differ in having lock pin holes in bracket and retainer and maybe the L side tiller spring angle piece. If unable to picture blade, is it a front push type or rear drag type? If front push I wonder if your B is long frame and blade for short frame?? Also Interchange chart shows a 7701 mounting shaft for B's on a front push, looks to mount in another hole set in a frame.

Hey Glenn, ya know the real trick is to try not to come off as being overly desperate or impatient... I wouldn't give any more info on that neighborhood community you just joined. I bet there are plenty of guys just dying to know where they hide...

Spent the day on a trip into the New Forest Hampshire UK to pick up this C160 I didn't realise how awesome these guys were , she has a hydro problem which is preventing her from driving but the engine is in amazing condition & has massive power .

I agree. If you think you have any interest you need to head right over there. Cash in hand. Even if you don't take enough to buy them outright, a deposit shows you mean business. Unless my Wheel Horse experience is unique, I've found that people very rarely have any idea what model or year a tractor really is. Even when they bought it new. That 1957 model could be anything; '57 RJ, Lawn Ranger, 1057, C195, anything. Same goes for the 1998 model, although he might have a better memory since it is newer. Since the Hxl and 260 series were huge sellers, prepare yourself for it being one of those. I bought a 1968 500 Special from a guy whose parents bought the tractor new. He was absolutely positive it was a 1958. One Wheel Horse a guy turned me on to turned out to be a Speedex. I bought it (and later sold it) anyway. Even when I drove away we was still swearing it was a Wheel Horse. My point is that you need to get down to his shed TODAY. I hope it turns out to be an RJ35 in excellent condition! Best of luck! Duke ... this is a cruising vessel only, no PTO or such work items!! Will have a winch only, in case the Florida sand gets the best of me!! LOL

Trailer hook up camping sites are available on a first come first served basis. But tent camping is usually not a problem. There are acres of area to put up a tent. Some out in the open field, and others under the trees. Friday night is free, Thursday and Saturday night cost $20 per night.

Bowtieguy (Frank Rufenacht) hooked me up with a very nice Wheel Horse D series. I bought his D-160. The old girl was well cared for and not abused in any fashion and seems to have a lot of life in her. The best part about the tractor is that it seems to be 100 percent unmolested and in a unrestored state, and other than an axle bearing (see picture from the rear) and fresh fluids, looks to be very solid. Apparently Frank, his family, and I share a commonality, we hail from Switzerland. Frank's family has been here for quite some time, but I came over on the boat, well it was actually a 1964 Constellation Comet, but I was born not far from the Rufenacht ancestral home of Rufenacht, Switzerland.

"Both rear valves were WAY out of adjustment. " There you go. We must do the valve checks if we want long life out of our ONANs. One member said most heads eventually warp and need periodic attention. We all need that flat piece of plate glass to do the head checks. One ONAN service manual said to de-carbon more often if the engine is run at lower rpms. One eBay seller of gaskets recommends to de-carbon and adjust valves every 200 hours. With the Performer Series engines it seem best to run them hard and check them often. They are not the bullet proof, run them any way you want for years, cast iron engines that we are used to in the older models. As far as I am concerned, nothing beats the sound of an ONAN Performer Series engine and I keep spares just in case.

That would be the one I would be looking for to with the big Kohler single. Nice find!

The best way is to use a shrinking hammer and a hardwood dolly. You will not harden the metal. In England the the masters use a wooden stump to shape and shrink metal. If it is good enough for Rolls Royce it's good enough for Wheelhorse.

And a nice Kohl-Aire to boot!

Bob, you may already have a seat but if looking to buy new, the KM123 unipro is a good substitute for the new style Toro Timecutter.... $91.00 shipped from www.turfseats.com (KM manufacturing web store) although this seat has a plastic base, it comes with the right bolt pattern for the mid 90s tractors and its the most comfortable seat i have on any of them. wouldn't hesitate to buy another.....

OK, here she is in her natural element. You can have your electric start and headlights and mamby pamby grip heaters. This is a machine a man would use. Nothing fancy, just start 'er up and blow snow. Could use a little paint but not bad for 47.

To bad you weren't looking for parts last year. My neighbor sold 16 of those REO blowers (some even ran) for under $300 for the whole lot. One guy bought em all and we delivered them in one trip. Mike..........
