9 pointsSpent the day on a trip into the New Forest Hampshire UK to pick up this C160 I didn't realise how awesome these guys were , she has a hydro problem which is preventing her from driving but the engine is in amazing condition & has massive power .

5 points16 degrees today in Wales, and I couldn't resist. I've cut my lawn for the first time with the Once I'd adjusted the cut it was all go. I got half way through and then a sudden drop in power, oh no I thought, but as I looked at the engine I noticed the wire on the coil had come off. 2mins later and I was off again Very happy owner

5 pointsThese are genuinely unique 'OLD' photos. I doubt if you have seen even one of these. They are both interesting and truly historical. 4 pointsIts tough to make out from the inside but I can tell you it was an absolutely miserable 11 1/2 hour ride to get this tractor. Probably the single stupidest thing I've ever done to get a tractor. I took the 551 out and brought this back... Its home now. Rebuilt the carb this week, went to move it tonight after work and the drive belt broke so I'm running to my favorite dealer tomorrow for a new drive belt...at least I hope...Then its going to get the 56" plow I got at the end of last year for $73.50 put on it and get some snow cleared tomorrow and Sunday while its warmer

3 pointsThe New Forest is a beautiful part of the country , very expensive place to live with wild horses & donkeys that just wander past your house. It is very near the Isle of white also . The telephone boxes are still used here in many places in the UK , although the telecom company sold many of them to people who now use them for garden ornaments or even indoor shower cubicles . The trailer is a twin wheel 8x4 domestic trailer, just big enough for one tractor & maybe an RJ sideways. The C160 spent the last 4 years just mowing a horse paddock on a small farm .

3 pointsI had this happen also because of the wet snow. I pushed the throttle up higher and it went away and I did not have the problem after that.

2 pointsAfter rebuilding the undercarriage and remachining the rollers and pins I reassembled everything and took her for a test by pushing some gravel around. Everything ran beautifully but then the RR side started to drip gearbox fluid. I disassembled the track and roller assemblies and then had to drill out the two set screws on the hub as they were frozen solid and broke my hex wrenches. I put a standard 8" puller on the hub which promptly broke. I then got the big boys puller out which is a 12-ton hudraulic unit. No go. I then applied two torches to heat the hub with the puller on. Still no movement. I then decided to split the gear reduction box and remove the entire lower axle assembly and gear to see if I could get it into my 20 ton shop press. I put 20 tons of pressure on the shaft trying to push it out of the hub and then the frame of my press violently exploded sending bolts flying. The failure of the 20 ton press was shocking. The bolts actually stretched and the frame bent. I decided to weld all the frame joints and put in new bolts and beefed up the metal with some heave plating. Once that was done I put the hub and axle back in and tried again. Still no go. I held full pressure on the axle and hub and fired up the torch again. As soon as I started to heat up the hub she finally let loose. Pretty violently too. I can not believe the amount of pressure it took to push the axle out of the hub. Now with new bearings she should go back together fairly easilt. These were the last bearings to replace on this machine. I was not going to replace them until the one started leaking.

2 pointsIt was a late start to the morning (my son stayed at paps last night) so I went over and worked on the tractors a little. Here's what I found on the charging issues. I checked voltage on the battery terminal of the voltage regulator. I had no voltage and found the 30A fuse blown by the starter solenoid.I also had to jump the starter solenoid to start it. Solenoid was bad. Swapped it with the spare tractor and its all better. As for the 520hc not charging, the stator ohmed out good and the batt terminal on the voltage regulator had 12v. So off to the spare tractor for spare parts and swapped the regulator. Now have too working tractors again. Now off to do a little investigation for the steering this afternoon.

2 pointsI can see Jim starting a new contest......"what's wrong with me?" First person to guess correctly gets his autographed bedpan. I'd pass but I do hope you get better and back here soon, Jim. Best wishes, Richie

2 pointsAwesome C-160 my favorite! I had to replace the hydro motor in mine 5 yrs ago. It's getting a tad tired again but I have a working spare sitting in the shop for when the time comes. Hey look a phone booth! don't see thm anymore around here. I wonder where Clark Kent changes his clothes? I like that "Hood" decoration on that shed too!

1 pointInnovations have been coming fast and furious here at Wheel Horse Plaza! I hope to be able to bring Ezra to a plow day someday. It needed to have the lift cable put in it. The factory set up has been discontinued so lets use what we can get our hands on. I had installed a cable I made up with Lowes components but I wanted something better. A cable for a 520 is still avail. so that's what I went with. Note: I did this exact same change on my C-160 Auto. but I want a gear tranny tractor for plowing. Neither one of these tractors have the provision for a rock shaft either. The Parts: Toro # 108145 short clevis and a Toro 108144 cable. These are pricey. Cost me $63 bucks but like I said I wanted something better and sometimes you just have to pay. Also included is a $3.00 piece of brake line for the conduit and a 5/16" NC thread yoke end from McMaster -Carr. I have 4 tractor suppliers near me and 3 of them don't know what a yoke end is and the other one had a drawer for it but it hasn't been refilled for 2 years I used a slot hitch but I think a clevis hitch will work the same. I was using an 8' WH plow but now with the beefier cable I'm more confident to use my 10" Brinly The cable is too short to work so I welded on a 5/16 bolt for an extension and cut the head off new cable won't fit in the existing conduit so the 3/8 brake line is needed. the openings in it need to be deburred before using Seat and trim were removed. I wedged the rear panel up after unbolting from the trans. slid out the old conduit and slid in the new. After sliding the cable in and attaching to the slot hitch I measured the extension bolt and cut it to length needed. Yoke installed in the up position Now in the down position. Rear view. Plow in up position. Plow in down position

1 pointIt only took about 10 min to clean out the horse stable. Just a bit longer to tend to the wood shed and front entrance. Several years ago I'd have spent hours with a walk behind Ariens. These days 1-2 hours max and I'm finished. Oh how I LOVE my horses!!!! Knock on wood!!!! Our little enclave has been blessed. Having a few good neighbors doesn't hurt either. 1 pointI'm really glad to see others who will either walk around a snake or admire it and let them live. I have quite a few rattlers, a lot of water snakes and not enough Black Snakes around camp and my house. Live and let live. Except in hunting season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 pointI dug a hole through the snow and glacier in the back yard and managed to get down to the earth's crust after an hour. I did find some grass with some left-over chlorophyll. So I cut it with a pair of scissors. So there! Central Pennsylvania and Wales are very similar! Seriously.......I'm happy you could cut the grass and that she is running well! We will have to wait awhile in regard to 16 Celsius days and the green green grass of home! Two more weeks before geological Spring arrives!

1 pointC-160 is a great machine. Hope you get the "non-moving" problem figured out. I also love the phone booth...Guess that is where Super-Man went, because we don't have phone booths in the US anymore.

1 pointThat beautiful 10" blanket of snow yesterday was marked with a lot of critter activity today. The squirrels were looking for the acorns and hickory nuts they buried last fall. The rabbits were searching for a meal of green bark on a sapling. The fox was hoping to feast on the squirrel and rabbit The deer were working hard last night tilling up those morsels of corn the picker missed last fall And BIGFOOT was just enjoying the walk

1 pointI thought I was the only one that was thinking this. The Grandfather wants only the best for his Grand kids, I can't blame him for not wanting a crappy box store tractor. I taught my son a long time ago that these tractors aren't toys but you can still have a ton of fun with them without beating the crap out of them. Who knows, maybe Gramps will teach his grand kids the same value's. Maybe the guy that restored it would love to see some kids having fun on his tractor. We bought this 854 off Buckrancher almost 3 yrs. ago at the Big Show. Once in a while my son takes it in the woods where there are some trails near our house. In almost 3 yrs. of ownership Cole hasn't put one scratch on his tractor..My son is only 13 but he already has plans to one day pass the 854 down to his kids.

1 pointGreat idea! I'll lose a bunch of weight and have Steve take a picture of me standing sideways. I'll be " The Invisible Squonk standing at the Bus Stop "!

1 pointWhat a great idea for a thread! I didn't think I'd have much to post until I started looking at photos I had snapped with my phone and I realized I had a fair number of them. (Some are hi-res, some are not.) I've been a "snake guy" since I was a kid. As a boy I lived for Sunday nights and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom! Maybe I wanted to be Marlin Perkins but for whatever the reason, for years I have been the guy people call to come get animals out of their yard, their house, etc. It's usually reptiles, but I've removed owls, squirrels, opossums, birds and all manner of wildlife. And that's where this fellow came from. A couple of years ago the woman who was my childhood next-door neighbor called and asked me to come over...she had found a snake curled up in a bush in her back yard and wanted me to come get it and relocate it before her neighbor came across it, freaked out and killed it. That particular snake ended up starring in this bit of YouTube silliness...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eHXha2UgBM This was another "animal rescue". This little fellow had apparently roosted for the night in a wreath on our front door and when I opened it, he flew straight up, which—once the door was open—was right into the house. At the end of the adventure he was a little shaken but did not appear to be injured. Once outside again, he flew right off. I found both of these guys the same day while cutting a friend's grass. (For the rabbit's sake, I hope their paths didn't cross...at least not for a few months!) On this day the kids pulled me away from an automotive project to alert me to a snake in the middle of the neighborhood street. (I don't think he wasn't particularly happy to see me.) I found this little guy was crawling through the back yard just before I started cutting grass. (Carried him safely down into the woods.) It's not all about snakes though, there are other reptiles as well! This little blue-tailed beauty was in our front bushes... ...and this appropriately named Fence Lizard was on a wooden fence at our place on the river. Speaking of the river, here's a couple more taken there... (Not "wildlife" really, but I love this shot.) And if you are still in the mood for "creepy crawlies"...this little lady was staking out the woodpile... ...and this little girl was guarding the shed door. (Dime for size reference) I found on the side of my neighbor's house... ...and this was taken during the last invasion of 13 year cicadas. (No, not 17 year.) Finally, some fauna. I came across these fungi in the woods behind our house. Their locations were very close, but I found the first one a few months before the second. I'd never found a four leaf clover in my entire life until one day a few years ago I was working in the yard and just glanced down and this jumped out at me. That's right...count 'em up boys...1, 2, 3, 4, 5!!! Lastly, speaking of clover... A year or two after the above photo was taken, as we're about to walk into the house my oldest son says to me "Dad, I bet I can find five four-leaf clovers in under a minute". I just laughed. So he proceeds to bend over and in a spot not five feet from where the photo above was taken he starts plucking and counting out loud "One....two....three..." and gets to five in about 15 seconds. In his hand were the five four-leaf clover! He said "Dad, this is a mutant patch of clover...they're everywhere!" And he was right. I snapped the photo below at a random spot on the ground in said clover patch. I would estimate it covers less than one square foot of ground and I count at least seven. I Photoshopped the image to highlight the four-leafs in red. I don't know what was going on in that clover patch at the time, but within a week or two I couldn't find a four-leaf in it to save my life!

1 pointNice looking Horses cowboys! Expecting 4"-8" tonight, white junque, weights, chains, plows are on tight! Decks off, one on saw horses, maintenance. The Horses are ready to graze on grass, me too!

1 pointlove that! you're making amazing progress with such great skill and confidence! This is so much fun watching it all come together. do you have any bloopers reels of video or do you not really mess up and "scrap" an idea? thanks for sharing Ian Kevin

1 pointHey Jim, We've never met, but Steve the dinosaur keeps telling me good things about you, and that's good enough for me. I do know you keep me chuckling here, and judging from your posts in the "What Are You Listening To" thread, we even enjoy some of the same music. I'm not much of a prayer guy, but I will be thinking of you. Hang in there!

1 pointHopefully a few new wires and maybe a switch or two and it should run. If not I have options, spare 25hp command and 32hp briggs sitting in the shed. Unless I could make a deal on the diatsu and turn it diesel,
