So I had the day off of work with nothing to do so I mounted the sickle bar on my 702. Bring on the weeds iam ready!! Anybody else getting ready for summer?

Can someone tell me what this attachment is used for? I have a bunch of these and I forget why I bought them!

I got a message a few days ago about a old GT of a different color that a guy wanted to sell and as we talked and he sent me some pictures and this cool old Raider happened to be in some. Long story made short I ended up bringing both tractors home. He didn't know anything about this tractor,his uncle has a septic pumping business and he found it on a job they did. It looks like it may have been used as a puller at one time. Besides the 26x12-12 Good Year's on widened rear wheels,a 66 hood has been installed on it with a pedestal in the front raising the hood enough to clear a big block Kohler,similar to the way Wheel Horse did it in 66-67. It also has newer heavy duty rear hubs that are actually a little too long for the shorter axles on this rearend. The entire lift system is long gone too,and notice the super skinny's up front. They have been on it a long time by the looks of it. I initially just wanted it for the rear wheels and tires but after getting it home I think I have a plan for it.

Do sickle bars cut snow drifts?

Been working on my daughter's 857 hoping to have it done before the mid mo meet and greet waiting on the decals and just ordered sum tri rib tires for the front she can't wait to ride it around this summer

What could possibly make quicker work plowing snow with a horse?.... Plowing with two . That's my fathers 520-HC in the back and my 518H. We have a few inches here in Pa,and my old Hahn blower is working better for what I have to do at my house. So the 518 went back to my parents to make room and this is what transpired.

Have not looked it over well enough to determine if it is a 58 or a 59, but it is pretty complete and original excluding the hood decals. It has all the guards nice original tires that are not weather check, which is remarkable. It even has the, often missing, oil bath air cleaner and sediment bowl. Even has the original muffler. Lucked out on this one.

Unfortunately the throwing it away after ten years mentality has been in effect for a while anyway since most people that do not do it themselves, will not change the oil in their lawn mowers or snowblowers anyway. As long there is oil in them a lot of them will last about that long. With lawn equipment shops charging just about hourly as a new car dealer around here, no one takes their lawnmower or snowblower to do any maintenance, since that will cost at least $150.00 each time, plus the hassle of taking it and bringing it. That's why it is so easy around here to pick up free snowblowers. People never drain carbs after the winter and then it won't start next season. They call, then get a estimate of at least $200.00 assuming nothing major is wrong, plus transportation fees, so to the curb it goes. Might as well buy a new one specially if they had it for a few years.

if you've kept up with these two threads..... you would know that i now have a 416. both of them tell the story to date. tonight i decided i needed to hook up the rough 48 SD deck that came with the GT1848 and go get me some seat time on this thing. i thought that maybe running it under load for a couple hours would help the engine (carb really) sort itself out a bit. well i got nearly 2 hours in tonight mowing my neighbors field and lawn surrounding her house. it was reasonably long and thought running this thing loaded would sort out some of the bugs (and keep its new owner sort of sane with some riding........) got done and gave it a good compressed air blowout to clean up some of the grass afterwards. definitely running a lot nicer, but still thinking a carb rebuild eventually will have to take place. it still stumbles and hunts every 5-10 seconds, but will smooth out with just a small amount of choke out...... need to look at a couple manuals i have, its got one of those limited range plastic screws in the mixture screw location on the carb, so i need to get familiar with it, before i can fix it. now ive not had a 400 series before, closest tractor to that would be my GT1848, which, when you put them both together and look at the specs they are almost the same tractor mechanically except for the differing twin engines..... and the briggs 18 (GT1848) has 2 hp on the onan P216 (416). after spending some time on the 416 tonight, i have found another favorite (think i have a garage full of them anyway), plenty of power and not too bad on gas for the engine size. the ground speed isn't as good as my 1848, but it goes plenty fast for mowing with the 48 deck. not sure if the eaton gearing was faster on the GT1848s than the 416 tractors or not. just seems that the 416 is slower......i still have some bugs and other stuff to sort out, mainly from lack of maintenance from the previous owner before terry got it, so with some linkage adjustment and tuning we will see...... heres a pic or two after chores tonight........

Here is the 1075 that went up for auction this past Saturday. Trust me, the photos do not do it justice. This was a total restoration and it looks beautiful. Unfortunately I was NOT the high bidder. I went to $875 and it sold for $900. Had I not have 5 other tractors I would have bid higher. I did talk to the new owner today on the phone and he told me he bought it to drive through the woods and let his grandchildren play with it. He mentioned one of the reasons he bought it was that it does not have a mower deck on it to get snagged on rocks...Gulp! At that point I offered to trade him a Honda 3813 (water cooled, twin) with a plow and a front mount snow blower (rare)...He said he would get back to me. The previous owner had passed but it saddens me at the thought of all his hard work going down the drain. Surely he is the new owner and it's his to do with it as he chooses. I was just going to pull a wagon with it during the 4th of July parade and keep it covered in the garage.

Hi I need to replace the lower steering shaft on my 72 C120 Raider 12. Am I right in thinking that I need to remove the motor in order to do this please? Also the carb is a bit worn out and I have a Kohler 10hp from a Raider 12 with a carb that appears to be much less worn. Is it a straight swop or are the jets different. I've looked at some Kohler charts and they appear to be the same.

with these clones you can make a great engine by swapping the plastic gear cam out for a slightly more agressive lobe, billet aluminum flywheels and honda valves and springs.

I have found it easier to pull the engine instead of messing around for a hour then pulling the engine.

I put together a short video of blowing some very wet, heavy snow (about 5"). My only regret is that it wasn't deep enough nor is my driveway long enough. I get it done too fast.

The plow trucks just throw it back anyway. We have sort of a silent feud going on.

So I understand, the ignition switch works and is sending 12v to the solenoid when in the start position. You hear the solenoid clunk in. Problem is the solenoid is not making contact inside to send 12v to the starter. Replace the solenoid for about $10. I have repaired some by taking them apart and cleaning the contacts.

We had a greaser day in college and 1 guy I know put vaseline in his hair. He washed his hair a dozen times and it was still in there. Our engine professor told him to use DL in his hair. Vaseline came right out.

The KOOL KAR guys add flame throwers to their cars, you already have one. As Theroundhorsernr said, just a little unburned fuel; I would rather have it a little rich than too lean.

I installed skids on my plow several years ago (made a bracket and used some threaded rod and cut up some old cut-up some old mower blades for the skids) works great and I get three times the blade life on black top usage.

Lord willin' and Mrs. M is healthy, the cookie bars will be there.

van, im liking the 416 even with all its little quirks. all the safety switches and electrical are driving me nuts. nothing that a good wiring makeover wont take care of though. i guess i cant get away from onans either, been messing with a few engines the last 6-8 months and while i appreciate all the engineering built into them, i like the simplicity of the kohlers and especially the cheaper parts. always liked the looks of these tractors, but weren't coming across any when it was buying time and then just recently this one came up. i think this one will be a keeper, its going to get a few mods and some work done on it, but first i need to sort out all the adjustment and electrical issues. still undecided if it will get a teardown and shine up though. pulled the deck after finally prying my wife off it and hooked up one of the blades i have. all ready to push a bit of snow now....... got a set of chains with it as well so if needed i will put them on too.....

Thought I'd put up some pics of the guard painted and the sub assemblies. I have a small video of the Tiller pulley assembly in action and I'll post it when I can. It worked flawlessly and never slipped. I must have come close to the original and would like to compare them if i ever get the chance.
