11 pointsHave not looked it over well enough to determine if it is a 58 or a 59, but it is pretty complete and original excluding the hood decals. It has all the guards nice original tires that are not weather check, which is remarkable. It even has the, often missing, oil bath air cleaner and sediment bowl. Even has the original muffler. Lucked out on this one.

3 pointsHere's an update today, didn't get to spend a lot of time on it today, but got the engine back on now, hopefully for the last time and front tires mounted and installed on the tractor, will have to wait until next weekend to get the rears on as I didn't have any tubes. Still need to get the speed selector arm fixed and painted, a friend has had it for a while now, waiting for him to weld in a new piece for me, once I have that painted and back tires mounted its pretty much ready to go together the rest of the way.

3 pointsWow what a day! Super busy at work and dinner out. Thanks to all that have wished me a Happy Birthday here on the Greatest Forum in the world Red Square!! From Koen who was the first to ring in at 3:52 A.M. (thanks for staying up all night Koen! ) Probably was having lunch when he typed it. Don, no seizures here unless I get to close to a Tecky recoil rope! . To cousin Brian, who must have spent all day digging up those smilies out of his vast stock pile of Horses. To my older Dino brother who took a selfie and slapped it on a pizza. Now I know what I'm not having for lunch tomorrow! THANKS I see Uncle Jim has dusted the snow off and managed to get back in the house. Jim we need some more of those action shots! John, I didn't see a Gravely with a sno-cannon show up at my door yet. come to think of it Ken the 420 didn't get here either! My younger brother Craig. Awful nice sentiment but I think I may have a few nightmares now. And to everybody on RS thanks for all the wishes and laughs and we will see a bunch of you in a few months in PA. If anyone wants to give me a snow cab, I can pick it up there! What a way to celebrate your 5800th INTELLIGENT POST! BOOM----SHAKA----LAKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 pointsHeard on the news that you are only 5" from a new record snowfall and another storm is on the way. Wouldn't it be a shame to go through all of this and Not set a record!

2 pointsI guess this installment should be called great guy in the great room...I super friend came down today to wrangle another one out from under me....but while he was here I used his labor to switch around a set of BF Goodrich Silvertown ags for a set of BF Goodrich All Purpose Garden Tractor tires.... We had a great afternoon my friend and I...I wonder if anyone knows him?
-
2 pointsOK...when you push or pull the tractor...or anything else- for that mater...the differential (along with the axles) just all roll in the same direction. If you are going in a straight line, the pinions in the differential aren't doing anything...they are just going with the flow. If you are not going in a straight line, that is when the pinions wake up and either take in the slack or give up some slack, depending on which direction you are going. It is really hard to picture what is going on in the differential, but that is what it amounts to.

1 pointWe do not have the manuals for 1988 or 1989. Just discovered there was also a 06-37SK02 and the idler setup looks different. The operator manuals are listed in the parts lists. If I have it figured correctly put the belt on the engine pulley, goes back around the two idlers and then to the snowthrower pulley. Sitting on the tractor for left and right the belt goes from the left rear idler to the bottom of the snowthrower pulley. That way it should rotate the auger in the correct direction. Garry

1 pointDang...in 1964, I was walking 2 miles (up hill both ways) to High School...and that was to the YMCA , about 2 blocks from the school so I could practice on the swim team 1 hour before school started. My hair was froze solid by the time I got to class. If I had to do all that today, I would have quit.

1 pointthe size and configuration of the parts is why they run them in separate batches. they should have been up front about that before you left them there to plate. the place i use has to process them the same, the longer, larger parts will usually get done on a rack whereas the smaller stuff is done in a basket. two separate runs, hence the price is doubled. best way is lots of planning ahead, send small and large in separate and more quantity of each to make it more affordable. you really need to send in enough to do 3 or 4 tractors at a time to get the price more reasonable. all your rods, shafts and large stuff in one run and all the bolts, nuts, brackets in another. its a pain this way but works out better in the long run. even though you have to bead blast them first, i still like the finish compared to painting larger stuff. small runs of bolts etc, might still be better off buying new, (if you can get the ones you want).... i hope you can find better than $100 a run, i pay $40 for roughly 3/4 a 5 gallon bucket full of small stuff at a place near work. the longer parts are usually way bigger than a bucket, (pto rods, brake rods etc) i usually take in what ever could be jammed in a bucket if you were holding it so it wouldn't fall over and then it would be a $40 run.

1 pointGrowing up in the Midwest, I can manage the cold; you just put another layer on. The problem here in MD is the sweltering Summer. I gauge the heat by number of T-shirts worn for the day. Reminds me of being back in B2 Engineroom. I better not move any further south!

1 pointWell living in Boston this year we have had a lot of snow just to say the least. About 8 feet in the past 4 weeks and the horses are getting a work out and finding all the weaknesses. I'm out of commission for the snow but the wife, daughter and her boyfriend are keeping up with it. Problems in had this winter are a blown engine in the 72 raider 14 with snow blower attached and smoked bearings on the drive idler and snapped belt on the 312-8. 72 will be down until I can get around again so repaired the 312 and removed front blade from that and installed blower. Just a couple of picks.

1 pointGrandsons love the snow, I hate them! One of their favorites the '85 416-8 does the work! I want to install the mower decks, shorts, sandals, Rolling Rock ponies. http://youtu.be/Ug8cBIbxDaY

1 pointThe Chicago area has some mean winters! I can tell you that the winter of '64 I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station and it was MY all time record cold winter. Don't know if it was a record for them, but it was for me. For about a week we were confined to our WW2 era barracks because they were afraid of frost bite. Classes were held there and meals delivered to us. Gives a whole new meaning to cabin fever.

1 pointI'm in the mix to do this also and very curious as find both axle gears as same id ?pn?(3908 or 8053 or 7197); also have seen some with both axels same but prob 5073LS only. Then some 1'' axels and some 1 1/8", very confused. I ain't giving up though, it's just too much fun except frustration of trying to get that !@#$% spring to stay put long enough to get caps together! It's Steve's fault for makin it look so easy. And Steve glad you brought up 11/44 diff gear mesh, will eyeball that and Dave...thanks for bringin up

1 pointWell I think it sucks that you didn't get all of "Summer Wind" on the video. That was the best song.
-
1 pointLars, hope you get well soon and I am glad it wasn't worse than what it is. I also want to thank you for sharing your experience because since my accident a couple of days ago my mind is now racing through all kinds of possible injuries and their causes. I am also guilty of using a RJ without belt guards. It happens to be my grandson's favorite tractor and I can't keep him away from it. I have always been self-conscious when he is next to it while it is running, worried about his little hands. Guard needs to be a custom one (longer than stock) so I never got around to make one. I can tell you now, that thanks to you that tractor will never run again until such a guard is in place. However sadly, at least there is some good that comes from our misfortunes, in the form of real lessons learned from them. Get well soon.

1 pointWhat a Pud! Just rub some dirt in it, that's what a U.S. guy would do!

1 pointI'll bet you have a broken rockshaft. Have you been trying to bust through deep piles with that blower? We had a rash of broken rock shafts last year.

1 pointNice pics! Looks like a fun day for all. I used my C-101 to clear my drive yesterday (and my neighbors) in Chesterfield, VA. We had about 8"-9".

1 pointAmazing how much the weather varies from year to year and which parts of the country get blasted. I grew up in the Framingham area outside of Boston and i only remember 2 really huge snow storms. One in 68 or 69 and one in 78. I seem to remember the local weatherman ( Don Kent ) telling us during the first storm that we were going to get 4 inches, when we had 6, then he changed it to 8 when we had 12 and more came anyway. That year I think we only had 8 days of school in February. In 78 they shut the state down but I was working as a milkman and they'd let us go out to try and make deliveries. At least I was able to batter through most of the drifts as a fully load Divco milk truck resembled a small tank. Now I live outside of Bel Air in Maryland and made the mistake of rebuilding my snowthrower last spring. As punishment the snow gods have totally forsaken me. So far I've had the beast out ONCE and other than cold air and lots of wind, there's not much snow. Needless to say, it IS a pain when you get tons of it as it's way too easy to run out of room and it will wear both you and your equipment out. Hopefully the weather weanies are wrong and the storm will swerve off the coast and leave you alone. Good luck - Cod

1 pointAt this point, winter is on the down hill slide, better enjoy it while you still can... pretty soon, we'll all be sweatin' our cahones off at the big show. :happy-bouncyredfire:

1 pointHANG IN THERE JOHN. I WILL CLEAN ALL THE SNOW FOR YOU, BUT I CAN NOT GET TO IT UNTIL JULY.

1 pointSome things to try. First, if you can, use a spare fuel tank and bypass the fuel pump. Hook it directly to the carburetor and gravity feed it. It may surprise you and run. Don't want to do that, remove the fuel line from the fuel pump and turn the engine over. Fuel should spurt out of the pump several feet or more. If it doesn't, the pump is bad. If after testing, you find that it doesn't start, check the timing by removing the flywheel. You are looking for a bent key. It only has to be off a slight bit to cause problems. Or take a spray bottle and put some gas in it. Spray fuel directly down the carburetor throat. Keep spraying it to see if the engine will run longer. If it does, you have a fuel problem. Hard to tell from here if you did a good job on the carburetor. The float needle could be stuck. By the way, starter fluid is not good for these engines, even in small amounts. It is usually ether and is very high in octane. Just use a squirt bottle with regular gas. It will do the same job and not damage your engine.

1 pointGot my hearing aids from the VA. The guy told me I was at the limit for hearing aids, the next step is implants. He put them in and told me how they function, then he said, what do you think? I said,I've heard every word since you put them in.It was odd at first,as I was leaving I noticed a tv was playing in the reception area,I just stopped and listened for a minute,I haden't heard it on the way in.As I was walking out to get my truck.I kept hearing something behind me.I stopped and looked around then I realized it was my own footsteps. All hearing aids are not the same.I have had hearing aids for about 15 yrs,but nothing like these. When the guy was telling me about them,I said ,these must be pretty expensive. He told me if I bought them on the open market they would be $6,000.

1 pointNice One Andy, glad your running with it here (need it). Yeah!, those Pesky Techys with their buried Points, finiky timing setting and sometimes tricky Carbs can be a challenge, but when they are set up and running sweet , they'll pay back with effort. look forward to seeing your progress and the end result.
