    I cut out some aluminum 1/16 inch diamond plate for a rear fender pan/box and rear for the pan this weekend. I used a metal break shear to cut the diamond plate sheets out. Used sheet metal screws to install and placed my rear tail light on the pan. Trimmed it in U shaped door edge guard when completed! Due credit for this goes to Jon Bell ! I put a black knob on the back to lift the lid!

    it's been out of commission for awhile but it's back with a new motor and new rear meat, some maintenance on just about everything and after moving some snow piles back from the road and driveway, I shined it up in the garage since the temps were in the high 30's today with a little rain! Now I need to find another Onan or repair the original that was in it. Need to tear into that later this week or next weekend to find it's issues though I just know it is most likely a valve seal in the rear cyl.

    'Rounding the bend behind Danbury Airport after dropping my beautiful Bride off at work this morning, reminds me ever so slightly of my days in Cold Weather Survival training at Ft Drum NY (immediately before we were sent to Central America to stoke the Nicaragua / El Salvador fire...), Team Spirit in Korea and Reforger in Germany. Love it.

    Something eerily peaceful about the steam from houses / buildings rising straight up into the air . People call me nuts but soon we'll be swatting flies & scratching mosquito bites .

    ]I grew up in central NY and want to thank you for reminding me why I moved south fifty years ago. We had about four inches of snow this morning, had planned to get my first seat time of the year plowing snow this afternoon, but it has already melted!

    I remember the early 80's, eatin pizza with Bud Moore on the pits during practice at Pocono and shootin the breeze with Junior Johnson out side of Martinsville Speedway. By the way, those Buick V-6's were murder to your ears when Martinsville had the roof on the front straight

    I just don't know anymore. Bad enough I have no self control. First you guys basically force me to buy the engine, now you suggesting that I get a tractor to put it in. I guess we don't need a crystal ball to predict what is next. I just hope the little woman here doesn't get a hint of what is happening or there will be a lot of "nut roasting" going on.

    I heard next years feature is "Garden Tractors". Hope to find out for sure. I plan on having at least two there next year.

    Yep shear TT. That's what I used . Diamond plate on rear fender pan is all installed on the 1961 701 now! Looking better all the time!

    A shear cuts, a brake bends. Watch the low-sided box with the "big" fenders and no "X" braces.

    Kohler's idea to set dip stick threads on the engine crankcase to measure oil level is sort of unique (and I think based on Bob's reply mentioning crankcase that is what he was thinking of not your hydrostatic transmission). Just about everybody else measures levels with the dipstick pushed all the way in or screwed on snuggly. Reality is it isn't a hugely significant difference.

    The HH70 in my L107 starts faster and is ready to move a whole lot quicker than the Kohlers in this cold weather. The Kohler 12hp in my Electro is almost as good. The M18 in teh 418A cranks for an eternity before she rund then has to take pause before you engage the hydro....

    They are all good when they run, But my opinion is the teckys are for light duty. If Im really going to work a motor it would have to be the kohler

    I've got an old Ariens 24 in.snow blower with a 7 horse Tecumseh from like 1971 or 1972.Friend of mine gave it to me about 6 yrs ago.He said it was " tired ".We've been using it every Winter since I got it.Clean the snow out of the dog pen.Make a path to the chicken coop.Widen up the areas where the bigger blowers won't fit.Just can't kill that engine.Getting a little hard to start.Especially when it's 10 below out.I'm thinking of new piston rings and new valves this Summer.Then it will probably run another 40 yrs.Longer than I'll be running.I grew up around Tecumseh,Briggs and Stratton,and Wisconsin engines.I thought they were all great engines.

    6 soldiers pull up on a main street in Halifax, Nova Scotia as part of a parade. They're in a standard issue WWII type Willys Jeep. In the span of about 4 minutes they completely disassemble the vehicle and reassemble it and drive off in it fully operable!     Hey Ken. Man, that was 35-45 years ago, lol... I was a fan of all those old guys. Heck, more a fan at this point of what they did with what they had - or compared to cars & technology today, what they didn't have. Of course The King was a favorite of nearly everyone I knew, but Cale and the Allisons all those guys it was just different back then. I guess my favorite wasn't any particular driver, but rather just the time I got to hang out with my Dad and his buds and take in everything that was happening there at the track. I lost touch with all that when we moved up here, more especially when I left for the Army in '82. Served 6 years, took me a couple few years after that to come out of my fog. I remember being impressed by Alan Kulwicki the couple years leading up to his death, and watching closely Gordon the year he won rookie of the year. Love him or hate him, that kid could flat-out drive back then. On the same page as Papaglide, so much has changed. Like anything else truly good, it's been exploited and commercialized to squeeze as much profit out as possible that they just wreck it. Heck, ask anyone of today's young die-hard fans if they ever ran 6-bangers in the busch cars and they'll look at you like you've got three heads... I guess these past couple years I've rooted for Mark Martin, just because. I watched part of the xfinity race on Saturday over at Helio's (was supposed to be looking over my Wifes' RJ, lol) and you know, I didn't recognize nearly most all the names in that race. I might as well have been watching curling, I was so out of touch...

    Lots of great posts here boys! Burly, I bet Awesome Bill from Dawsonville and his Ford were fun to watch! Not a Chevy guy but I always thought the BB Monte's were sweet looking. One of my fondest memories was being down in the pits after a race at Martinsville talking to Jimmy Hensley. When we told him we were from Buffalo, he said " all the way up there? What'cha doin down here? I love them wings." Not to be forgotten was the sight of D*ick Trickle smoking a ciggy and drinkin a can of beer! Seemed like we were all one of the guys. Good times!

    It can vary according to the surface being cleaned as to where you set the skids. For gravel you have it raised so that you aren't throwing the gravel as projectiles. Smoother surfaces can be set lower. I have an additional plate to widen my skids to have them float more. The 1/8' plus happens to be my preference as the surfaces I clean are all asphalt. It is also the measurement that Ariens recommends for my walk behind. The Toro manual doesn't specify other than "close to the surface." Having the skids carry the load as opposed to the scraper bar will prevent less damage being done to the housing, I feel. If I leave too much behind from the snowthrower, I'll follow up with the snow blade tractor that is better equipped with a trip mechanism on the blade.

    Fuel delivery driver here- we appreciate those paths ( a lot less snow in the boots and easier walk/drag to the fill/tank )

    I'll bet you have a broken rockshaft. Have you been trying to bust through deep piles with that blower? We had a rash of broken rock shafts last year.

    My raider 12 has a 16 hp kohler. Me and my dad rebuilt the motor in 1985. Been plowing and mowing with it every year since then. Running just as strong now as it ever has. I have many other wheel horse tractors, 702, 856, c111, 416, 420, 310, 312, 314, and many more. This single cylinder puts all my other twin cylinders to shame. We had 3 blizzards this year and STILL keeps on going !!!!!!!!

    Adam, I needed to replace the break band on my C-125 as well. I discovered that the new assemblies were quite expensive. Someone on this forum (can't remember who) turned me on to rebuilding what I had. Brake band lining is available from McMaster Carr (PN 6175K813). It's 3/16 thick by 1 1/2 inches wide. Fits perfectly. You buy it by the foot - wont need very much. Glue it to the metal break band with clear silicone. I clamped it around a coffee can and let it sit for 24 hours. It has worked perfectly for a couple of years. Cost me about $15 and 2 hours of my time.

    Depends on the condition of the deck. Is it a good deck or a "blower" deck? Grass and rocks blows through this hole and that rusted out hole....

    The engine was indeed pretty new at that time (five years ago).Even now when I change the oil, it is never black always light in color. Its running strong and unless i do something stupid it will probably outlast me. The problem is me! Its that I must have spare critical components for every tractor I have specially that one which is indispensible.I actually also have a complete totally rebuilt hydro unit for it, NOS stator,trigger and coil. Missing yet is an engine. Issues I know. I keep telling the wife; I don't, drink,I don't gamble and all the money I spend its here within the property line. So this M16S is a complete engine never had oil in it , its around the corner, its the right color and its four bills. Very tempting.
