6 pointsIt's the first time this winter that we finally got a decent amount of snow to try the 523Dxi. I had been predicted that our area was to be in the 4" -8" band. It ended up to be about 4" or a fraction more. It was nice, fluffy stuff due to the cold. I was out for almost two hours doing mine and five neighbors driveways. I'm happy with the tractor and cab but due to the design, I don't get the heat like the classic Wheel Horse. The airflow is moving forward for cooling on the 5xi series. With the fan drawing the air from the cab cooling the radiator for the diesel, there is quite a bit of air passing through the cab. On the 5xi cab there are actually two vent instead of windows on the rear to draw air from the outside. One advantage though is I don't have to deal with fogging the windshield! I have ideas for next winter on how to reroute the airflow. The single stage snowthrower is everything everybody says it is. A useful piece of information by JerseryHawg/Glenn though. He found out from a dealer that the torque produced by the engines used in the 5xi can tear the single stage apart. This is especially possible with the diesel so I am going to install a tach. I have actually been using a 1/3 throttle setting wihich seems to be the right amount for today. The diesel has been sipping fuel I am glad to report. With four hours of use, it has used approximately 2-1/2 gallons. My Kohlers go through a tank (4.5 gallons of Premium) in the same amount of time! Today's setup. Starting down my one neighbor's long driveway Why you need a cab. A nice plume. On the return. Looks like a toy against the trees A job well done! My Wheel Horse "Gate Guard"

5 pointsWell living in Boston this year we have had a lot of snow just to say the least. About 8 feet in the past 4 weeks and the horses are getting a work out and finding all the weaknesses. I'm out of commission for the snow but the wife, daughter and her boyfriend are keeping up with it. Problems in had this winter are a blown engine in the 72 raider 14 with snow blower attached and smoked bearings on the drive idler and snapped belt on the 312-8. 72 will be down until I can get around again so repaired the 312 and removed front blade from that and installed blower. Just a couple of picks.

2 pointsI am proud to introduce my little girl "Bonte". She came to us as a previously abused stray and lived in my shop office for the first few years (our old crotchety house cat was not interested in sharing). She would hide behind a life size cut-out of NASCAR driver Bobby LaBonte until I sat down at the desk, then would feel it was safe to come out, thus the name Bonte. The old cat passed away a few years ago and now she is Queen of the roost.

1 pointWell it's 0 degrees and there's nothing else to due so I decided to re due the barn. I sold some tractors and move some out for other members to enjoy. Don't worry everybody I'll fill the barn back with more wheel horses tractors eventually. The loader with attached forks worked great for putting tractor in the rack and as well taking them down. I started Saturday at 10 am to Sunday 3am. I was frozen as the wind chill was -15 but I'm from Buffalo where use to these winters...

1 pointOh and out of curiosity, do you guys have keep the lift assist spring attached too with the flag if you leave it on?

1 pointI have to say, I don't know if anyone else has other non WH equipment and tried putting a plow or blower on a JD for any other brand, they are not necessarily easy or quick compared to a WH. Plus, attachments and parts for say an older JD are not nearly as easy to find. When I installed the flag for my blower I just got on my '86 310-8, I didnt seem to have trouble, just used a key style cotter pin. -Brian

1 pointFound this info while searching for one of the 16 WH models made in 1967...seeing that I have about 6 of the 16 models in the barn I started to look for more in hopes of collecting all 16...well, I found a T-867 nearby....(not listed in the WH file...wonder why?)...looks like I "gotta have it"...will look good next to my 857 and my 1057 and my 1067.. Didn't know much about the T-867 ...but I'm learning (remember, never too old to learn something new!!)..plus short frames get my attention~! Thanks for the pics Racinfool and info Steve and TT...now if I can only get the herd down to SIXTEEN....all 1967 models!

1 pointso, it looks like the incorrect p[arts are as follows: steering wheel/seat/hood/rear fender and possibly wheels. The wheels i am still not sure of. They are painted, but look to be extremely clean for their age. This could have possibly been someones restoration project a few years back? At any rate, it is a hell of a tractor, and i look forward to bringing it back to a respectable condition.

1 pointThis is why we need a herd of horses. GET ADDICTED

1 pointAll- Sorry about the poor quality of the video however when you ask the wife to take a video of anything tractor action related you take what you can get. This is a few days after clearing the driveway and 60+ mph winds blow it back on the driveway. It was pretty crusty and hard but the blower cleaned it up pretty good. Snowblowing feb 2015.MOV

1 pointThis is a pretty lame mod but it was bothering me to see the big opening around my gas cap under the seat of my loader tractor. (520-H) I put 26 x 12 x 12 tires under it so I raised the rear fender pan and needed to cut out the gas cap area of the fender tub to unscrew the gas cap. When everything was put together, you could really notice the large hole behind the seat. So.........I appropriated some aluminium test panels at work and spray painted one side red. Next I adhered some pressure-sensitive adhesive to the opposite side of the panel then adhered magnetic strips over that surface. Pics are of how the seat and hole appeared with the seat in position and without the seat on the fender-pan. The panels front and back and the panels over the holes. Looks nice but again..............rather lame!

1 pointDo you have a pic of plug location? I like easy. I would PERCH myself up to look around and find it but a pic would be awesome. Thanks

1 pointi went searching and think i found the listing for this tractor. I'm sorry but i don't think the description on the listing was deceiving at all. it wasn't very thorough..... Wheel Horse C 165 lawnmower comes with snow blade and front and back wheel weights. Mower does run . It has a Kohler engine . I will help load on your truck or trailer or could deliver for a fee . it can be picked up in PLYMOUTH INDIANA 46563 CASH ON PICK UP ! and they did give you additional info about the engine..... i would not have just bought it for that price without looking at it first or at least getting some opinions on here first. that price is way more than i would have paid, but its not really out of line for what i see tractors go for on that site. as far as condition goes, its not in the best condition, but I've bought worse ( but also for less money). most of the rust is surface from what i see, the left cover is pretty bad and probably needs to be replaced, but the condition overall is fairly typical of tractors that age. same with parts missing. these machines have been around a few years now and its getting harder to find good examples on the lower end....... this forum and its members are here for help and advice, just need to ask..... i think the whole deal should have been handled differently from your end, you did go in blindly on a tractor that the owner was not really telling you anything untrue...... heres how you need to handle it from here on out......... forget about what you paid for it, its over and done with. fix the tractors problems and enjoy it. you have a capable tractor there once running right..... or, restore it to its former glory and show it off as one of your collection. but, don't forget to ask questions and opinions, thats what we are here for......
