7 pointsI picked up this C120 a month or two ago with the intention of just fixing whatever needed it and using it to mow with this summer. After rebuilding the carb and fuel pump the engine runs like a top so I set it aside and took the rest of the tractor apart to see what it needed. Nothing came out of the tranny when I went to drain it so I opened it up to see what it looked like. I replaced a couple of gears and the bearings and seals along with the shifter. This is the first tranny I've had that I could just tap the hitch pin out. The front axle pivot hole was worn and the pin was broke so I replaced those along with the rear lower steering shaft support. The dash stand was cracked in several places and the lift lever was bent "out" almost like someone was using it as a handhold to get on the tractor. I welded up the cracks in the hood stand and a couple in the seat pan and replaced the lift lever, next I took the tins off the engine and cleaned it up. I took the starter apart while I had it off, one of the magnets was broke so I replaced the starter and also picked up a good Nelson muffler. With the engine back in I made a new wiring harness, put in a new ign. switch and battery, new tail light and front lens and a new seat. I also got a new set of decals from Terry and got those put on today as well as the grip tape on the foot rests. The shifter plate was missing and the one I had was shot so I had one made out of 1/8" plate, hoping it won't bend like the old one. This is written under the hood. I've got 4 new Turf Masters, front wheel bearings, new belts and an idler pulley on the way and a new set of hub caps from Glen to finish it off. I have a nice late '80's 42 inch deck to put under it.

6 pointsJust picked this jewel up today, looks ruff, but runs good, has a 3point and a ark 550 loader, and new rear tires, and a wt box, will take it apart this spring and make it look better! And I almost forgot to add it has power steering, made from a John Deere 400.

3 pointsI had the Deestone Tri-ribs installed on my 1961 Wheel Horse 701 this am. I had the wheels sandblasted, primed and painted antique white . I really like the way these tri-ribs feel when driving and steering the tractor.

3 pointsI scored this amazing 551. it was from an original owner who died and his nephew was selling it. it was bought brand new in the spring of 1962. he bought it with the 1962 options of headlights and back seat rest. I have the original paperwork and the 1962 literature that shows color pictures of the headlights and backrest. it has all belt gaurds, side discharge covers on deck and original pull chain for pin in snow blade and rope for turning the blade. I cant stand the way it looks. im dying to tear it down and make it look pretty. John Campbell keeps telling me "its a survivor and leave it alone. will painting it hurt value or increase value?

3 pointsAnyone can restore one... It takes years and years to make them like you have, well taken care of. And yes once is all you get. A sand blaster takes seconds to undo years of great care. It is yours just give it a chance to clean up and shine the way it is.

2 pointsLane, for some reason, I prefer the 8 speed over the hydro. Lookin forward to using this one. Scott, I'm not sure you'll get this one back. It's really growin on me. I did feel a little guilty though when I got it running, almost felt like I should probably send you some more money................ Almost. The muffler sounds great, Bob. Thanks!

2 pointsNice score, if you're the guy that sell GTs from Ladonnia, Mo. on craigslist, you sure have had some nice old GTs, not just Wheel Horses either

2 pointsIts 419 acres of heaven...until it snows and you need to plow the drive or its sunny and you need to mow 6+acres around the house, grain bins, and ponds. There are actually times that I do have to clear the drifts along the 1 1/4 miles to get to my driveway...thats when I miss my 18 Automatic....Ive missed it quite a bit this year...unfortunately this is what just widened things up after the winter we've had so far.... Perspective....that plow is 12 feet wide and the back tires are close to 6' tall.Tractor is rated for 10,000 pounds pulling or pushing with duals in 4wd If you look carefully in the upper left hand corner of this picture you will see a very small ribbon of black....Thats where Craig was when he took the picture....gives you an idea of how long it is from the main road to the house

1 pointNew Member from Lansing, Ks. joined a while back and have been just lurking and enjoying this site. I have 2 Wheel Horses now, one for work and one for pulling, we pull with NEK (North East Kansas) Pullers and also with The Bucket Brigade Pullers in Northern Mo. The WH that we do yard work with is a GT 2500 and has a 13 horse clone motor on it just to make it usable, soon to have a 14 horse Kohler and the puller has a 10 horse (built) Kohler. Also have a JD 200 16 horse puller and soon to be finished Sears that will probally have a 14 horse Kohler that will be for my Grandson, ( He wanted to have a "Blue" tractor) to pull with, he will be 4 Apr. 1 and likes to help build his own puller. Looking forward to enjoying this site and asking a lot of questions. Thanks for having me.

1 pointAdded this to the fleet today: I haven't researched the model year yet, but this is a late 1980's/early 1990's Ford LGT-14D diesel tractor. It looks as nice in person as it does in the pictures. I don't know much about these Jacobsen-sourced machines, but I've long liked them. The fact that it's a smoker seals the deal. I'm still into Wheel Horses, but I also have a thing for diesels. This blue one adds another color of the spectrum to my growing diesel fleet that includes a green Deere 332, an orange Simplicity 7790, a Yellow Cub 1512, and a RED WHeel Horse 523Dxi. Who knows where the nonsense will stop. The good news for you fellow horse nuts (!) who thought I completely fell off the wagon is that is that I recently let two Deere out of the stable to accomodate the Ford. Now I'm back to just the one Weekend Freedom Machine (and it ain't going anywhere!). The best part of all of this, however, was that I got to meet a fellow Redsquare member who lives right here in River City: Ben "4xfourfun". Great guy! Steve

1 pointThat tractor reminds me of the 73 "12" that I got from the original owner a year and a half ago. Runs like new still, original paint and it loves to plow snow! (Good thing!) Looks like we both got a KEEPER!!!!
-
1 pointThat a nice looking muffler you got there Denny. You can beat a '74 through '77 B/C Series horse.

1 pointI'll add my 4 cents. (inflation). That is a beautiful tractor. I agree with the majority. after you wash off the mud. dust, oil and grim, take some oil to that patina. You could replace the majority of the fasteners but I would look it over and see what you think before stripping all the old finish off and repainting. It is YOUR tractor. You do what you want with it. Honestly in regard to value, none of our tractors, even an RS Pond, is going to result in a windfall of "the good life". And Jack's analogy of a grandmother look with lipstick, eyeliner, and makeup is great! I like both restored and original looks. But I can't imagine my grandmother all gussied up!
-
1 pointyou really need to tun your motor at or close to wide open throttle wot. you run the risk of hurting you hydro pump at low throttle. something about not circulating enough and also not dissipating the heat. i don't always run wot either if just moving the tractor , but you should run at least half throttle and if working the tractor no less then 3/4 throttle. the pumps on these tractors are getting harder to find and are not cheap to repair so take care of it for your own good. but in the lone run it is your tractor to do with as you please..... eric j

1 pointWell I can tell ya, I have both a D180 with the larger rear tank and a D200 Backhoe/Loader with the smaller fender mounted tank. Sooo, oh, fuel economy is not any differant also. Basically the same motor, identical drive train. In reallity, I can't tell the differance in power output at all. Rarely do I even run at wot either, only while snow blowing, but the govenor takes over and holds down the rpm.

1 pointThe D-200 has the larger tank. The D-160 and D-180 have the same size smaller tank. The more powerful D-200 is the better platform for a loader and backhoe. When a backhoe is mounted to the back of the tractor the tank is relocated to on top of a rear fender. If you are using such a vehicle for a lot of work and feeding 20 hard working ponies you do not want to be refueling often.

1 pointWell, a gallon of water weighs approximately 8.4 pounds. Multiplied by 275 gallons, you would have about 2310 lbs. on the trailer. So I guess the first question would be concerning the load capacity rating of the trailer. I am not familiar with boat trailers, but I do haul water in a 250 gal tank using my 5 x 10 utility trailer to water my blackberries. I have found that the weight is not as big of an issue as the fact that water swashes around creating heavy forces in various directions. I am on very hilly uneven ground and I would be a little leery of using a boat trailer myself. Other things you might want to consider includes ground clearance and ability to use the same trailer for other things like hauling those beautiful red mowers around or hauling all that produce up to the house. Hope this helps! It's time for this old dog to hit the hay, so goodnight to all the great folks of Texas!!!!

1 pointRyan, I did some looking around and it appears that "Jacks Small Engines" may still have some piston/ring sets available for your engine. I have looked at their online ordering, but have not actually contacted them. I am a Newbie, but some other fellers probably have already looked into this. As far as the rods go, there is a company by the name of R&R Racing Products up in Gant Park, Illinois, that builds custom rods for just about anything, including Kohler engines. They advertise that if they haven't already made one, all they need is a sample. If you want to check into them, their web address is rrconnectingrods.com. I suspect that going this route might be a little expensive, but you will have to make that call. Have a good night, and don't give up on your Horse!!! Sincerely, Factory Dog

1 pointOhhhh.......maybe I should cherish her! Was planning on cultivating with this one. Hmmm Wheels scrubbed and cultivator test fit...STILL NEED SOMEONE TO HELP WITH THE LIFT ARM DIMENSIONS THAT ARE MISSING. Mine with lift arm locked back and cultivator tight to the frame it has to be 13 1/2 from pin to pin, that doesn't work with others thoughts of 9 3/4 pin to pin.

1 pointPicked up a nice RJ 58 project yesterday, look at the photo and tell me if you agree with me as to it being an RJ 58.Thanks
-
1 pointA little update on the 59... Got the belt guard and frame primed and ready to be sanded going to work on them tomorrow. Also ran into an issue with the motor, got it all back together and tried to start it and had no compression, come to find out the shop forgot to set the valves when the ground them....kind of dissapointed in them for that, but the other work they did was nice. Anyways, to fix it just ended up using a local friends valve grinder and setting them, after that it fired right up and runs well! Here's a shot of it back together, can't put it together the rest of the way until I get parts plated, hopefully I will get them back by next weekend

1 pointI have rebuilt 3 throwers,a couple more than once,if the sprocket is that worn I would suspect she is in need of all 4 bearings and both idlers too, look at the drive sprocket too, these throwers work great but do take a beating and if all parts are not in good shape something will break,i live in a snow belt and the throwers get a lot of use so im just giving my opinion,ya it costs, but in the end when shes tearing through a foot of snow its nice to be able to count on it

1 pointWe got about 16" from Marcus. I only was "Allowed" an hour" After work last night to plow so out came the 160 and blower for a quick blitz job so we could get in and out. Scraped today and pushed as far as I could. Not much area to put snow with a blower either near the garage, so out came Elvis again and I ended up moving the piles I made Sat. and then some!

1 pointi can't say that i regret selling any of the tractor that i've sold over the years except the 18 hp onan that i sold a couple of years back. it was a good running motor with good compression. i need money for my sons college. i don't sell tractors or wheel horse stuff on a whim. why do you think i have so many tractors. i wish i didn't have to sell any of them, but i only have so much room to store them and only so much funds to play with. it's to the point that if i buy one, one has to go, just the way it is and the way it has to be eric j

1 pointWT heck - the thread blew up. There are so many more posts today! Awesome job everyone. Lane, John, Don, Tristan, Ranger, Ed, Forest, and whoever else I may have left out.... You all got some seat time..... None for me yet! Ed, I gotta say, that heater is rigged. Or you had it setting on the muffler just before you took the photo I have to admit, kind of jealous of the Claas. I am betting that will definitely send the snow into another county! Rob
