10 pointsI joined. It's like going over to your neighbor's for a beer. Red Square is my Home!
-
6 pointsWe've been getting a pretty good snowfall since last night and all day today. So before it got any farther ahead of me I went out to plow about 8 to 10 inches of white rain from the driveway. My wife was able to take a few pictures. Of course the road plow crew helped me out by channeling about a 15 inch plow berm into the end of the driveway but the C-85 14hp Tecky conversion handled it nicely.

6 pointsCan I go to Geno's site and figure out how to get banned? Being a moderator for so long here on RS I would feel like a trader... lol. Good luck with the site Geno. Make sure you visit here too!
-
6 pointsI started in 2009 on another Wheel Horse forum, "Wheelhorse.org". Then joined MTF. Found some others, then finally discovered RedSquare where I found a comfort level that I liked. I still visit and participate in all of them occasionally. Now comes Wheel Horse Stables. Again, I tried it and I liked it so far. That doesn't mean that I am going to abandon RedSquare and all my friends that I have made here. I am a supporter and will remain so until something happens to change my mind. As Trouty56 said, "why another forum?...why not?" I still bleed "red" no matter where I happen to be.

5 points6 to 14" coming my way overnight. I'll have to get up around 3 A.M. so it gives me an excuse not to watch the Super Bowl. Haven't run the blower yet so a little road test was in order.
-
5 pointsI headed to Western Indiana today to pick up a 701 I bought from Devin Stutler. I like it and I understand several other Red Square members must have liked this tractor also as this was owned by at least three other members (and a couple twice each) ! Fairly original but some additions modifications. Yes that is a chromed metal dash someone invested in to convert the factory plastic dash that the 701 came with when new! I am going to place a Hydraulic Pump on this to left a snowplow and garden plow (and other attachments) that I bought last fall. I don't plan much in the way of modifications -maybe tri-ribs on the front wheels and clean up the and paint the wheels. This is going to be used for what it was made to do.

5 pointsFinally got the K-Series 416 I have been searching for for awhile. No smoke at startup or while running and the throttle shaft is very tight. I think its a low hour tractor with some age on it is all. The wiring is unmolested and the steering is tight. Came with a very solid 48 inch deck. Talked to the owner off and on for 2 weeks and finally made the trip today. Last Saturday the roads where iffy going over the Mtns.
-
5 pointsI signed up on Geno"s site yesterday. I still love Red Square and I am a lifetime supporter but it's all about tractors and a bunch of nice guys and gals talking tractors. That's what we all have in common. What could be more fun than that ?
-
5 pointsOK Blue...what is it...honestly??? Geno has said nothing in this thread...it is all just a few guys speaking for him. I feel like I am in the 5th grade again.
-
4 pointsGeno, thanks for posting in this thread finally. I do not think anyone wishes you "ill will" with what you are doing. Actually, I wish you luck in what you are trying to do. I just think you went about it wrong...as it was stated you were trying to run a business. Quite honestly, your attitude is going to keep me from being a part of your endeavor. Your post #40 is testament to what I am saying. I wish you no ill will and I hope it works for you...I hope you understand that I will not be a part of your ego. Fair winds and following seas Mate.

4 pointsAt this point Geno's site is a forum....kind of like this one....not nearly as polished...but it is a forum....and a nice one too! He is only allowing members to join up for stability purposes but eventually will allow guests... I personally like Geno...I have met him and he is genuine. Loves Wheel Horses!! I have joined his forum and plan to frequent his site, RS, as well as MTF.... Be patient...it is FCFS at this point. Why another forum you ask... Well...why another restaurant.....why another anything.....choices...it's all about choices.... If it is only RS then we all get shoehorned into one culture....I like choices...
-
4 pointsNice. It looks a lot like what I did with my C-160, but I used some rectangular 55w Halogen lights. I thought it looked close to original.
-
4 pointsLooks like you found the ultimate machine.....big block Kohler and the 1-1/8" axled 8 speed! Mike........

3 pointsbeen meaning to post this for awhile now but just haven't had the time or taken the time to do so. back last may i found this 28 ft enclosed trailer for a really good price, to good to pass up. so i took money that i should't have and bought it. the township has been on me for years now about having to much stuff sitting around and i was way out of room for my growing collection of tractors. i was forced to leave tractors sit outside under tarps that i really didn't want sitting out side and i was borrowing trailers to go to shows so it seamed like a win win to me. the down side of the size of this trailer is i don't have enough truck to pull it, but luckily my dad and brothers both have cummins that will pull it. when i bought it it had 16.5 tires and rims on it and were dry rotted and it had not tie downs so i replace the tires with 16" and added e-track to the floor. it was already wired with 110 volt light outlets and 2 roof vents. it's bigger then i would have bought new and it's only 96" wide instead of 102" but even though its a 1989 trailer it in real nice shape and has not been pulled up and down the road a lot it was used for storage most of it's life eric j

3 pointsFive inches of white junqué here. First outing with our project Work Horse, 16 hp Briggs 2-cyl. Horse was up to the task while the other Horses took the day off. Guess waitin' for green grass..me too!

3 pointsI was looking at 6-8" as of last week, then yesterday as I finished prepping my plow tractor, i heard the latest update... 44*F and rain all day... All I want is ONE decent snow this year. I get depressed if spring rolls around without any plowable snow. My seat time is just riding the tractor up and down the road with the plow mounted, and my wife is thoroughly embarrassed when I do that.

3 pointsLooking good Jake. You know Jake, i try to fool myself by starting off saying that it will be a 'partial resto' when i do one of mine and we all know how that goes. Turns into doing over everything as it just will be better that way. looks like you have the same problem........ 'doing a partial resto on my 57 RJ'.............. man, thats funny........
-
3 pointsI bought a brand new TORO 8/24 back in 1998 and it was a junker in my opinion. It never ran smooth (Tecumseh) and I found all the hardware (nuts bolts clips..etc..) to be cheap quality and always in need or tightening. After about 5 years of fighting with it I sold it. Ran a WH with a blower for awhile but really would prefer a walk-behind so I started searching for non-Tecumseh powered blowers when I stumbled across this beauty! Its a 1978 Gilson with a Briggs 8hp and a 26" throat. It runs perfect without any of that Tecumseh surging...starts easy....and tosses snow great! Its also heavy as heck so the tires bite right in and pulls it along nicely. If I was to buy a newer machine it would be an Ariens for sure, my neighbor has one with a Briggs that's about 3 years old and it seems like a good machine. Meanwhile I'll just keep maintaining this one!! Mike.............

2 pointsFound very hard to find Wheel horse tractor today. I got a call from a friend a few days ago who knew a friend that knew a friend that his cousin knew a friend's mom and his moms dad had this tractor lol. Well it was a sweet barn find Wheel horse 420LSE!!! The production plate is missing on the hood but the owners manual I think it's number #77... Awesome Find!!!! I don't even know the value on these tractors don't see to many up for sale. Its been sitting for years now but I fire up engine and runs very good. Overall tractor is in good shape and needs alot TLC. Super excited!!

2 pointsHi all, I once made my own front and added led lights on project C4. This time it is project bendy in need of lighting and whilst I have a cast reflector, I thought hell...why not make the whole lot... I bought some really nice 12v led bulbs with reflectors knowing I could mount them quite easily. So out with a sheet of ally and a template Some 46mm holes and push them through Cut out a piece of lexan and add a new headlight sticker And here it is in place on bendy When the hood is painted I will mount it all properly

2 pointsFather-in-law called me about this one down the road today and went and made an offer and home she came! I think it's a 753 but, the belt cover is smooth and no sticker detent and the decals look original yet not right for a 753, I'm not familiar with the difference in the 62s but it does have the two piece tank and sure that's either 62 or 63 as the only two years for them. Anyway any help would be great, nice little garage find, use to be the grandkids tractor show run around. SN 32713

2 pointsYes I am lucky Terry!! Funny thing though. when Lola and I moved here I did not know who lived across the road. It was an empty lot last I knew. Jim bought it 3 years ago and built his retirement home there with a very nice 30 x 60 building. Its about 2 acres i guess. Years ago when I was railroading I would use 2 of my 5 weeks of vacation time in the spring and work for FS mixing and delivering chemicals to the sprayers just to be around agriculture again. I would have done it for free. Anyway Jim worked the family farm near Victoria Illinois and also worked for FS full time as a salesman. Just a great guy all around. It was a pleasant surprise to find out he and his wife Sharon were to be our neighbors. We could not ask for better people.

2 pointsUsing 5-0622 as a model number, it looks like the part number for the blade belt is 8411. The deck drive belt for the 45" wheelbase tractors should be 102741. Here's the 102741: http://www.bearingboys.co.uk/?catid=3296&att1=Toro-A-102741&att2= This looks like a suitable replacement for # 8411: http://www.bearingboys.co.uk/A75_Kevlar_V_Belt__6877_-12581-p

2 pointsWe got 5 inches last night. I no longer have room for a tractor so thank God we have a retired farmer with a big rig for a neighbor. All I had to do was move the vehicles.
-
2 pointsI didn't, they are a daylight 9w COB MR16 Downlighter. The beam angle is fixed, but they disperse and light up really good. The additional 20W per side in the spotlights helps too Given the difficulty of showing how well lights work, here is a pic with the lights in the workshop on.

2 pointsHO slot cars! My 11 year old grandson came over last weekend so we got out my mega collection of slot cars and track! I have 4 tackle boxes full of slot cars and a few other original Thunder Jet slot car cases full of oldies! I have Thunder Jets, A/FX Magna Traction, Tyco Pro and 440X2 mostly. This is a fun hobby and my buddy and I have been doing it since we were about 13 years old so that is 40 years worth of collecting and racing these little buggers! Anybody else into this hobby? I think Lane Ralph is into it. I may have more slot cars than Wheel Horse tractors!

2 pointsGas stink...not a problem. Just open a couple windows and turn on the kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans when you get the urge to take a cruise around the house.
-
2 pointsToday's update... Beside the new headlight unit, I have braved the cold to just about finish the wiring. Which whilst it's my strongpoint, I get zero enjoyment from! Wired the lower dash panel and used a PC style connector so it's removable. Tested it.... It works! Plus I now have switch on and off able lights
-
1 pointI agree with Eric J., the mule drive should be removed during plow use. You said the plow is raising too high and causing a loss of steering, that could only happen if the plow frame is being lifted into the tie rods. That is definitely not good and the corrective action is mentioned by Sparky, you will have to adjust the lift linkage to make it longer. If you have the solid linkage, you just need to fabricate a longer one to correct the problem. Good luck!

1 pointAmazing......that's some network that you have there buddy! Real nice tractor Shawn!
-
1 pointGreat pics Jim....really gives a feel the amount of snow coming down! She pushed good without weight?? Mike.........

1 pointThe only thing plastic on my blower is the plastic guides that keep the chute attached to the blower housing. Not sure why those would break. Am I missing something?
-
1 pointWell, FINALLY got some good snow in eastern PA. I have not had much time to post about my new toys and additions but I figured this video would be a good time to bring up the blower. Been wanting to find a tall chute for a while now. I was perfectly fine with my short chute but I have plans to add electric chute rotator and chute deflector. The tall chute is an easier platform to add these items too. I found one in all but mint condition with these heavy, heavy steel wheel weights that came along with the deal . Some other things I like about the tall chute is the replaceble scraper blade and the thicker jack shaft which allows you to use a standard bearing and not having to modify things just to replace the bearings. Heres a short video from this morning! Throws the snow just fine! Calling for another snow storm on Monday! http://youtu.be/0Fyb0NUmvk0 Kyle

1 pointWhat are you using for a lift link? Solid or chain? That's where you will have the make an adjustment so the plow doesn't lift so high as to hit the axle. Good score! Mike...........

1 pointJack, Does this mean you'll be changing your online forum name? Ohh! And I see you went past the Manson-Nixon Line to get it too! Now we owe Maryland a tractor! Congrats on the 416! Real nice!

1 pointI made some good progress on my own this past week. After calling around, I found that most of the local auto repair shops that claim to do driveline repair in fact have their driveshaft work done at the local FleetPride. I took the driveshaft off and brought it in to them. The guys at FleetPride had the repairs done in a day and had no problem sourcing new U joints. I am glad I took it to professionals. Apparently it had not been aligned properly and had been beaten up a bit so it needed some repairs beyond just the U joints. This easily explains the vibrations I was feeling. FleetPride was able to correct the damage and get the new U joints in. They chose to replace the greaseable type with non-greaseable. The work on my driveshaft was a little expensive at about $250. Nonetheless, I think it was worth it to get great professional service and brand new parts for a 40 year old metric tractor. As for the transaxle, once I got the driveshaft off I was able to feel the coupler for the transmission into the Hi/Lo gears. No problem there, all was tight. So, I think i should be good to go for a little while. By the way, I know the D250 has a bad rap for part sourcing. But I have to say, I've had pretty good luck sourcing new parts for this tractor. I wont hide that It has taken a little bit of digging, but so far I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel lines with new parts. Many new hydraulic hoses (apparently they're all US standard size, or close enough). The points, condenser and distributor cap were replaced with new parts by the previous owner and I have an extra set. Obviously, now the driveshaft U joints are new. I was able to order a new water pump pulley set from Continental Engines in SC. Through that transaction I was able to confirm that they can pretty much get new parts for the entire motor directly through the Renault factory, right up to the flywheel and clutch. I've found sources for a new starter and new or rebuilt alternators to replace the generator. I have new bearings, chains and hardware on the snowblower I rebuilt, including for the gearbox. A new rear PTO shaft seal. New engine gaskets. NOS Solex 26 DIS rebuild kit and a set of 5 NOS Solex gasket kits. So far, I think the only parts I felt I needed to buy used were the transaxle gears and the axle housings. If the transaxle goes, then that will be by far the biggest challenge to repair; as has been stated in the past. However, I've also been in the background considering how I might be able to retrofit a Tuff Torq K92 hydrostatic transaxle into this tractor, should the old Guttbrod box ever be beyond repair. At least it's food for thought.

1 pointIt depends on what I'm using it for: Overall work and long life Kohler Money no object quality and long life Honda Easy starting and light weight Briggs If I have money and all the time in the world to fix it Onan If I need a good boat anchor ( Because of it's weight not it's quality) Wisconsin If I was giving the piece of equipment to my brother in law Tecky
