6 pointsGot...maybe 6" of the slick, dry, powdery stuff here overnight... definitely was a far cry from the Armageddon forecasters were predicting(not complaining)... did the drive and side with the blower, early this morning...wasn't pretty, but did make it happen though. Just connected the dots to the shed out back, chose my plow this time, and went much better.

5 pointsA friend brought this by yesterday. From what I have read on Red Square the first 500 Special had a H60 recoil start. This one has a HH60 with recoil and electric start. Looks to be fairly complete with the original seat. The cushion is torn, but you can still see the wheel horse logo. Thought some of you might like pictures. I'm more into the bigger HP tractors so I will sell or trade this one.
-
5 pointsIt's been a while since I added to the WH side of the collection, but today I aquired a pretty nice 603. It has a few minor issues here and there, but with a little elbow grease and some attention I think it's going to be a pretty nice little rig. The original Techy runs quite well - even though I'm not a fan. The steering wheel is super mint.
-
4 pointsWell here in central Ohio we only got a mere 5 inches of the white stuff! Bummer for my snow plow rig, a 1974 A90 Special! I fired it up anyways and let it fly. The county snow plow didn't even bother to go down my road so I did part of my road and my one neighbor did part of the road too with his new fangled Cub Cadet tractor. Then I did my driveway and my neighbor ladies driveway too just for fun. It took about 2 hours to do all of this. This is the first time I got to use my snow plow this winter! So far we haven't got much snow this year, not like most of you guys are getting!

3 pointsOff topic but looking at your avatar brings back memories. Many years ago I was privileged to have this beautiful creature.
-
2 pointsJust in case you wondered, everyone in northern Wisconsin and the Upper penninsula of Michigan is laughing their asses off right now. A two foot drop of snow is not historic, does not shut down the city for three days, and does not require the National Guard. It is called Tuesday, and it happens all the time!
-
2 pointsLike the one I have, that I cant get done. Lol BUT,,,,,,,,,,and I am no expert. The motor "should be" a recoil start, period. Did not read anywhere of a electric start. The rumor says that MANY DEALERS changed engines to make the tractor more desireable and marketable. Its still sweet, and once done a beauty. All the above, my humble comments. A great tractor. Glenn

2 pointsSorry hahaha, it's on my electro 12 with a 42 inch blade, weights, and chains. Oh, and a cab! Haha. Love the new cab

2 pointsVin would not even know how to ride it since it is not a 58, 35 or a panzer.... lol

2 pointsHard to measure what we ended up with because of all the drifting but I have about 14"-20" of new snow here. My small town has two pickups and two dump-trucks for snow removal.....we now have two pickups and ONE dump-truck!! Saw this about an hour ago (sorry, cheapie cell phone pic thru my truck window) The driver was out and talking to another driver so I'm thinking no injuries. Its only on its side so maybe it could be pulled back over and get back to work ?? Mike.............

2 pointsAnd if the tranny drive pulley is OK, check the axle keys.
-
2 pointsSounds like the woodruff key on the transmission drive pulley has come out or sheared. Jack the back end up so the wheels are off the ground, start the engine. The pulley on the transmission should be turning, and the input shaft that it is mounted on should be turning with the pulley. If it is not, pull the pulley off and inspect the key.

2 pointsDepends what you like Brrly. Our show will have a lot that the Big Show doesn't from what I've heard. We will have 100's of acres to play on and will actually be able to use them. There will be fields surrounding the main show area set apart for mowing, plowing, tilling, etc. If anyone wants to use any equipment we will have a place for it. I can't wait to see all the horses at work. There's more but that's enough spoilers for today...

2 pointsI was cruising the back allies of my small home town today and spotted a Wheel horse from a long ways away! I went around the corner and down the next ally and found this oldie buried under some snow! It looked like a Bolens at first with all the snow on it. But after closer inspection I see it is a WH. I talked to the owner and he said he just got it last week with the big Farmall tractor that is next to it. I asked if it was for sale and he said sure. I looked it over and he said it was a 654. It has a 654 drive belt guard on it but after I checked it out further, I could tell it was a 1961 Model #701, one of my favorites! It has the wrong hood and is missing the seat and spring and the double starter generator belt guard is missing too. No big deal since I have one on the shelf. All else looks good including the Kohler motor is loose and intact. He said for me to make him an offer so I said $75.00 and he said no, but he would take $150.00 for it. I said I would go that high on it. I got his phone number and said I would get it next week or next weekend. He said he had some more WH's in the barn, a Raider 12, a Lawn Ranger, a 654 and a very nice old 1958 WH! I said I would like to see the 1958 Horse but he said these weren't for sale. I asked if I bought the other one, if I could see the 1958 tractor and he said yes. So I will get back to him later to get the 701 and see the oldie in the barn. I was hoping it was older than 1958 and maybe I would try to buy it anyways! I will keep ya all posted on this deal!

2 pointsHere are a few from my neighborhood and around the house. The first two are of the neighborhood's pet doe when it was a fawn last year. It wandered up to me while I was working on a cart. It still is very tolerant of humans. Long story of it being separated from its mother and then adopted by a neighbor after being shunned by the rest of the herd. It had it's own fawn this year. The neighbor has a dog collar on it to prevent being culled. Another neighbor has a farmette with two horse and five goats. Its not uncommon to find the horses broken free. Oke', my dog, was wondering about those "big deer!" The other shots are just some of the local critters. It's interesting living where I am. Rarely a day goes by without taking some type of picture.

2 pointsHey Geno have you called Toro yet to ask what they want for the rest of the Wheel Hose stock parts and naming rights to produce more tractors?
-
2 pointsMy winter projects are coming along nicely. I wanted to get everything done last fall because it was such a tuff winter last year, and I did. So my winter projects are...sleep late in the mornings, go ice fishing when the temp is in the 20's, light the fire place and watch as much football & basketball as I can, eat a lot of comfort food. I can report that the time line is looking good for a successful winter this year.

2 pointsA standstill. To Da%& cold in the Garage. This was warmer times.

1 pointI have a 2008 24" Ariens with a 9 hp Tecumseh and differential as opposed to a sold axle. When I bought it I had a 26" gate that I needed to pass through otherwise I would have gotten a wider unit. It was pricey at the time but has been really great for removing snow. The blower housing is about 24" high and deep so it really gathers the snow. The only issue I have had was the chute rotator locking cable broke and was actually replaced with a different assembly which meant "design flaw." I had to pay for the new parts. I would look for an older model with a Tecumseh and steel housings. A differential is easy on the operator as you don't need to fight it. Like other forum members have mentioned, an older unit might be the best choice. My suggestion with the units for sale in today's market, pay the most attention to the engine. Even Ariens has an economy brand in Sno Tek. Also look at the design of the blower housing . The current MTD's design is very shallow and does not perform well. Ariens has changed the design of the auger drive this year so it is either cheaper, or better. You might even consider a Honda snowblower. I know someone with a 1332 tracked unit and it is some machine. The problem with track machines though is they need to be running to move as you cannot wheel them. Great on inclined driveways though. On another forum there was a fellow with a track unit who made a platform dolly so that he could move it off-season in his garage. Here are a few shots of mine. The first shot is when this part of Maryland had the 2010 "Snowmagedden." 38" fell in five days and my neighbor is running the snowblower as I was still back in Illinois completing a teaching contract. The next is the 2011 Winter (I was here then), and with the new cab. I treated myself to a cab for it this year as I found a JD dealer that had the OTC cab priced with the 2010 price! It actually hasn't been used with the lack of snow we are having.

1 pointYou guys are the best. Took everything apart and put it back together. Just finished up doing a pass up and down the driveway. Worked like a champ. Good enough for tonight though. Back it tomorrow in the daylight.

1 pointHow 'bout what has kept me from working in the shop. This was supposed to be just a freshen up job but when I got started there was so much hidden damage it became a total gut job. Replaced damaged framing, built new shower and cabinets, plumbing, tile, on and on..................... The good news is it's done. I've got the 42"sd deck underside ready for some POR-15 but it got too cold out (only for a couple days) and I'm finally back on the Suburban.

1 pointGet the electro 12 with the limited slip rear end 48" blade she moves snow!! I have used different Horses over the years as plow tractors any where from a C81 to a C175. The Electro is the best. You do not need tons of HP you need traction. (and I have to admit the hydro lift is a good thing).
-
1 pointWith the method I used, I can't see why anyone would want to pay for this modification.

1 pointTinkering with my led light bar in the house tonight. Very windy and cold outside. They claim snow is coming for us but nothing yet. So I have been mocking things up. Stainless 1 inch, Led floods , and just got done wiring the lights. Can't wait to install it. Gonna use it unpainted until spring, then tear it down for paint along with cab frame.

1 pointNo but I'm just the grandpop. I think he got it from some good-for-nothin' trouble maker! Oh deere! Paid a couple of hundred bucks for that Horse. Think I got ripped? Hey, spend a few hundred just 'cause I needed the '90 520-8! The 'T' junqué had to go; decals, steering wheel top center, air screen center piece, all gone!
-
1 pointTankman you are being slack on your Wheel Horse training, Green Hats with Yellow Deere are not allowed. Shape up before you start painting Wheel Horses green and yellow.
-
1 pointthe best minimum preparation primer i have used is the duplicolor green self etch acid primer sold at advance auto. epoxy primers are used for long term protection enamel primers are probably the most commonly used (rustoleum)

1 pointDon't feel bad. Wives can smell "hobby" when it comes in the house. I was in the garage (detached) cleaning some parts with clear 1-K kerosene the other night. I always wear latex gloves which are disposed of in the garage. I was careful to take my shoes off outside, take my work pants off in the laundry room and put on my pajama pants. I took the pants back out to the garage, washed up in the basement, and came upstairs free of odor, or so I thought. Within 10 seconds of coming into the living room where my wife was reading, she said "I smell gasoline". Whether they are pregnant or not, wives are gonna complain about smelling something. Vent that paint booth and get back to work. I'll be hiding under this chair.

1 pointI'm at a standstill with a k-341 rebuild. I really think its gonna stay put for awhile. Probably drop the cash on a J&E piston and billet rod. Which means it'll go back to the machinist. Ahhh the price of learning on the job! My son's first pinewood derby car is finished. I just hope he's happy with the results on race day. And I'm still trying to get organized in my newly built garage. Undoubtedly once I finally get there I'm sure I'll want to tear something apart and start anew. On a very positive note the 4 or 5kW electric heater is a gift from above. Temps are always in low 50s even on the coldest days.
-
1 pointSo I put it all back together and it has tons of power now. It has been sub 20s for the past week so this weekend I will put it to work and see how it does. Still looking for a 3 point for it if anyone has one. Thaanks
