I finally got my tractor finished thanks to all you fine redsquare folks. I want to thank all of you for all the input and advice you've given me. I appreciate it. Also, I wanted to add a few pics of her on a lazy Sunday strole. Hope you like it. Thanks, Zane

While I am in the posting mood. I picked up a C-160 this week. Was told there was nothing wrong with it before I made the trip. Naturally I am skeptical but for the price I could not complain. First it had to be dug out of the over hang behind the house and I was told they could not get it started. I brought my jumper pack with me and got it going to verify the motor. Ran a little cold blooded but a few turns of the low and high needles and it was purring. No knocks! The good list - Its a wheel horse and a C-160 at that - Runs good. NO smoke even at start up - Like new ag tires on the rear - has been repainted but does not look to terrible - head light lence is in decent shape - transmission seems to work ok The bad but not to bad list lol - one hub is loose and sliding around. Cant beleive she said she drove this all summer. Cant wait to see what that looks like. - missing the hood ornament - dent in the top of the hood. - wiring is a mess. Coil is wired to a toggle switch. Who knows if it charges - Muffler is shot - seat is shot - few oil leaks - flat front tire All in all, its seems pretty untouched. I got to it just in time because it was going to be turned into a pulling tractor. Cant wait to fix it up and use it for some mowing this summer. Biggest issues are the muffler and the hub. Hoping someone here has a nelson muffler in usable shape. Someone has had there hands in the trans at some time because of the excess rtv oozing out of the joint. Hope its ok. Slowly adding to the collection. Happy to have one of these. Been hunting for awhile and I did not want the shaker plate C-161. I prefer the solid mount. Will post up some pics soon!

Well, FINALLY got some good snow in eastern PA. I have not had much time to post about my new toys and additions but I figured this video would be a good time to bring up the blower. Been wanting to find a tall chute for a while now. I was perfectly fine with my short chute but I have plans to add electric chute rotator and chute deflector. The tall chute is an easier platform to add these items too. I found one in all but mint condition with these heavy, heavy steel wheel weights that came along with the deal . Some other things I like about the tall chute is the replaceble scraper blade and the thicker jack shaft which allows you to use a standard bearing and not having to modify things just to replace the bearings. I took the time today (all of about 10 minutes ) to put the snow blower on Work Horse 700. With the upcoming weather forecast, I figured I better get ready! I absolutely cannot believe how easy it is to put on! Literally, one bolt, run the belt, and the lift arm bar, and that is it! I tried it out on what was left in our front yard from the other day, and I am very impressed, It works great, really throws snow far! What an exciting little tool!

I was suprised to find that there were no high quality spare tire mounts for the front of my enclosed trailer without drilling holes in the front of the trailer itself. That was ridiculous to me. I wasn't going to go at the front of my trailer with a drill. So, I decided to build my own bolt-on. I had it powder coated and came out exactly the way I wanted it.

Just got it home 3 days ago and since weather isn't very nice out for pictures all i can show is it in my cramped up garage... I will definitely post more pictures of it cleaned up and looking good this spring. Came with a 60" fab deck and i went and picked up a 42" single stage snow thrower for it today.

Geno - All I will say is that you should make it a point to attend the Wheel Horse show in Arendtsville, Pa this June and see what the Wheel Horse hobby is really all about.

As many of you know, my daughter Megan does a lot of singing. Yesterday she went to an audition for the Voice in NYC. It was an open audition where there were literally thousands who showed up. Well, she's one of the VERY few who will be returning for a second stage test. So, I am listening to Megan rehears. If things go well, we'll watch her on the Voice!

Hello everyone! I am commencing my first restoration on a '68 Charger 12. After 2 years I am finally going to begin in hopes of having it finished before the big weekend in June!! So far, I have gotten the engine running and began stripping the hood of paint to see what kind of shape the metal was in under the 3 layers of paint that was on it. I will keep this thread updated as progress continues and will reach out with any questions. Being said, my first is, What is the best color spray paint to use and after sanding down, what is the best way to prep it for primer, then from primer to paint. Thanks for the input! As the title implies my family are also fans of wheel horse tractors. About a week ago i got a call from my mother and she said that the old jeep and the ford 9n had been sold and she wanted to buy another wheel horse. She asked me to help her find one and when I did make the sale happen, she trusts my judgment on these types of things. So after looking through the local ads there was not currently anything that fit her needs but I found a commando 8 that I liked for a very fair price I went up the mountain and bought it. On the way home I got to thinking I don't have room for this and its way to small for mowing at her farm, so I decided that I would give her my backup old reliable B80 with 14hp kolher and 42" rear discharge deck and keep the smaller commando in its place. It all worked out great as she said she had been hoping I would sell her the B80. I guess I didn't take the hint, oops. So She got a great tractor for free and I got a sweet classic for a good price. I'm hiding. We're busy switching the business over to mostly Wheel Horse this month and making a lot of changes. Our official business name change is looking like it will be close to Feb 1. We've bought and sold quite a bit and adding something new this coming weekend. We have a goal for every month this year and a 3 year plan to make this thing big, so big I can't even believe it myself. Started in Jan, Feb is finish a part of the shop into a full parts fabrication section month, start getting a product list together for our store, getting all the details out for our 1st annual Spring show, and get ready for March when we will start buying like we never have before. We have already made a place for tractor inside storage at the farm that will hold over 500 more Horses. This is what we've decided we're doing the rest of our lives so it is full steam ahead.

Got an emergency call out to the farm to plant a horse today... while I was there I was able to visit with a couple of the old armys asses that are still housed out there.

If they're anything like NYS... they'll probably pull over, take a nap, and let you lead the way.

3rd time to plow this winter. The ol' C125 was ready to go. It plows what you see in the pic plus 2 more driveways. In the pic is my driveway .... and yard. It all gets plowed. I've had the C125 for 17 years and it always starts right up. It's been washed once and that was when I bought it. I believe water is enemy of anything electric. Water causes electrical connections and switches to rust and corrode. And sooooo..... NO WATER! But it does like oil and grease! It has wheel weights front and rear and chains. The new front tires have kept me out of the ditches. They really make a difference in going where I want to go. Most plowing is done in 2nd gear high range, 1H in tight spots and 3H widening out the road for the township. The Gates green belt (6982) has been on it for 13 years.

Middle of winter, noones digging em out of the sheds. As soon as spring starts they will be back out, and I'm sure genos horse hunting will continue, ruthlessly.

You guys are slipping! You saw an antenna tower and a squirrel in a sink! BUT! no mention of the WheelHorse plow frame standing up under the roof, or the GT14 tire, or the Commando 6 under the tarp, or the 2 K301s in the wagon in the shed, or Bigfoot running thru the woods behind the shed! Shame on you!

I keep my tractor/blower in a heated garage also. I've found that if I go straight out and blow snow that the cold snow sticks to the blower housing. To remedy this I pull it out and let it sit for a few minutes so the housing cools down before I blow. I've noticed this to be a problem more on my two stage than the single stage. Once you have a cab for blowing you'll never want to be without one. Sent from my tractor seat.

Here's one of the 'ol crusty, rusty seat pan that came on my Commando... decided, got nothing to lose, so I hand painted it with the WH logo.

This is a keyring for my 227-5 keys, its art as it just hangs and looks pretty. made by be by laser cutting some wood and then casting metal into the mould i made, it looks fairly accurate and i love it. here was the inspiration james

I look at it this way no matter the brand a good hook is a good hook. I've built a couple that do well but never to this extent, So I like to see it

Craig: I think the recoil you have and I have are more like this mechanism in this Clinton/Schnacke Recoil drawing: schnacke drawing Catch mechanism looks like this under the sheave : This is what I am looking at on top of sheave with the catch mechanism still attached Top view -spring attaches around center and has a cover over it. Bottom view with three prawl catch mechanism I sure don't want you to take yours apart I just though you might recall how to get this off or out of the sheave if you ever had it taken out!

Craig: I bought a K91 motor in Peoria last week (did not buy the 701 he had for sale) and I am cleaning it up and have a question. The catch mechanism that rests at the back of the sheave that the recoil spring goes on top of (and then covered by a housing) seems to be very tight and I am not sure how to remove this to clean some debris and light rust. I thought this mechanism was suppose to turn in the sheave. I have a good spring, recoil etc. but not sure the catch mechanism is correct. Mine has the bid hex nut that goes on the flywheel like yours in the 2014 posting you did on your Schancke recoils ! Let me know if you get a chance. Hope all is well with you and yours. I am going to look at some more 701's on Sunday.

I had picked up my 520xi two years ago. One of the cosmetic problems were the side panel decals. They were worn and in poor shape. I didn't care for ragged panels so I decided that I would pull them off at the time and do something about it later. My thoughts were to put a black stripe similar to the 300/400/500 series and drop the Toro. Lo and behold just after Christmas, Terry at REDOYOUR HORSE.Com contacted me for some measurements. He had requests to create a replacement set for the 5xi. The originals were no longer available from Toro. Unfortunately I was on a trip to the old hometown for a wedding and couldn't help out. A week or so after I got back, I was on Terry's site - and there were the 5xi decals being offered! I sent an order in right away. Terry shipped them but for some reason they decided to spend a week in downtown Peoria. Finally they were delivered yesterday and applied today. It gave me a chance to also polish the tractor in mid-winter. After the photo shoot, I used it to plow today's snow. It also gave me a chance to try my UHMW plow edge. Last year I used a rubber edge and was pleased with that. But I sold it to another Red Square member when I got the red plow. Before you think my snowthrower and plow are a bit of overkill with the "whiskers," we have a side-load garage and this helps when pulling in or out to know the the location of the end of the attachment.
