Well another one heading to a new home, I gave this to my son and wife for a wedding present, I gave them a deck, plow weights and chains and a larger set of turf tires for summer, it runs like a top, only has 2 rust spots, no hour meter but I think it is very low hours, carb even has almost no wear on it, I've had it for a few years needing TLC but no one would give me $300 for the tractor, and I could see it was to nice to part out, well now it has a good home, I put the TLC into it, that it needed, and like I said runs like a top now, plowed with it for 20 min. before loading it to head to it's new house. gotta love a nice 312 8 speed

In the last 3 weeks I've managed to bring 2 Horses back to the barn. Our household has gone from 0 to 2 ponies in the blink of an eye. Never owned a Wheel Horse before, but have always liked the coolness factor of the early models. The ruggedness, the long hoods, the slight incline of the hood rear to nose, the foot stirrups, the way you straddle the tractor like a horse, the stance....need I go on? Although there are at least another half dozen models that I like, I hope this does not become an obsession, as does my wife. A few weeks ago, my 12 year old son and I were driving down the road and he said, "Whoa there. There's a couple cool tractors sitting next to that guys house over there." We had been talking about finding an old tractor to restore, and with a quick U turn we were soon headed back to take a look. There were green tractors and orange tractors, but the one that caught our eye was a little red pony sitting off by itself alongside the old man's garage. Cute little thing it was and had the most stylish little round nose I've ever seen. We introduced ourselves to the owner and inquired on the possibility of a purchase. The man politely denied our inquiry and said any of these are for sale, but not this one. He had plans to keep her for himself and make a parade tractor out of her. After a good 30 minutes of chatting it up with the old chap and listening to stories of his tractor conquests, we were headed home with a 1966 Lawn Ranger looking over our shoulders. The old man had unfortunately put a fresh coat of red paint on her with a brush, a new seat that looked out of place on this vintage machine, and had spent his time primping her instead of making the needed mechanical repairs that should have been done prior. We'll be doing a total frame off "renovation". Should be show quality when we're done with her, although she'll be getting a workout as a toy around the "estate". We've already purchased new shoes, performed a needed tune and carb rebuild, flushed the fuel system, repaired the original seat pan (although my son prefers the old fashion springer round seat pan for it's cool factor) and since he's the one that fits the tractor....he'll be making the seat decision. She starts on the second or third pull when cold and always on the first pull once warmed up. Any one know what model this wheel is from? Now, with a toy in the shop that at 6'4" I must admit I look a bit "off" operating it, I had to look for a playmate for it that suited my larger frame. I set out looking for a 1267 or the like, but could not find one within reasonable driving time and the comparable 10 and 12 horse models in my area where well used up or incomplete missing too many parts. I "settled" on the next best thing. A very cool looking 867. Less HP than I wanted, but with the cool 6 speed (8 speed) who was I to complain? I guess I can keep the search open for the 3rd machine with a 12 horse? Right? After all, reading around this site, looks like these tractors seem to multiply on their own all the time. Well, Friday I made the trek and brought home our 2nd Horse. At 48 years old, I'm pretty satisfied with her completeness. It looks as though her previous owners have treated her well. (mostly...We'll discuss this later. Not for the faint of heart.) Her skin is straight, joints are tight, original color has a nice patina reflecting her life experiences, purrs like a kitten, and runs out smooth in all gears. Her original shoes are not cracked either. She will need some mechanical repairs such as some rewiring, replace the hitch cable, replace some seals and fix some leaks, and a seat cover. I plan to restore the wheels and maybe the mower deck, but the tractor will maintain her patina with a degrease and buff. Like her little sister, she'll be just a toy for the family. Maybe get some time pulling the yard cart or time eating grass on the front lawn every now and then. Neither horse is a primary worker for us. As for her mental and physical abuse by one of her previous owners, please be careful with viewing the following picture. It is very graphic and I'm sure most if not all members of this forum will find the following repulsive and uncalled for. Our first step in cleaning the little girl up will be to remove this attrocity from her skin. You've been warned. I told you there was previous mental abuse in her past. Maybe it was a tramp stamp???? Now I'm not put off by green, Our primary worker is green as a matter of fact, but to slap this sticker on a Wheel Horse is just wrong. I don't know if this was some kind of sick joke played long ago or if a previous owner hated this little tractor, but we'll fix her up and give her the love she deserves. How rare are the 867 tractors? I don't see many on this site or on the web, and even looking at some of the download manuals, the 867 is not even listed as a model in some of the company brochures and model listings. What model/year is this seat from? It's obviously not original to the tractor? It has the Wheel Horse stamped on the back and in the vinyl.

Any round hood. The newer models have more of the muscular look, while the round hoods have the curves, and who doesn't like curves....

The two hyd lines connect to the FACE of the end cap. The two PORTS for the spring, cone, ball, etc are on the SIDES of the end cap. The ball and spring should already be in your end cap, in the rear port. NEXT.....(1) Remove the rear port plug and withdraw the ball and spring. (2) Remove the front port plug and put that ball and LIGHT spring in there. (3) Install the shorter HEAVIER spring and cone in the rear port.

Hello everyone! Very excited to be joining this community! ive spent some time reading on here and trying to learn about my newly acquired 211-5SB wheel horse lawn tractor. My wife and i just bought our first house last july from the nicest old couple who we still stay in contact with. the property is just under a half acre at .42 acres. small house 1000 sq ft and an over sized detached 2 car garage, the couple liked us so much they decided to sell us pretty much the entire contents of the garage and two garden sheds for $200. Best deal of my life id have to say. just to name the bigger items that came with this purchase, the wheel horse tractor of course! a craftsman roto tiller, pressure washer, self propelled push mower, two chain saws, an old roll around craftsman tool box, and tons of tools and odds and ends, iv already put to use lots of the left over wood, built a dog house and other things with it. And im still finding treasures every time i clean out another corner. anyways that being said i am a gardener, but i only had one garden bed before. barley enough for a decent tomato crop. i always ended up overcrowding my plants. but now i have all this land and this great tractor. the old man took good care of it. regular oil changes and left me a spare belt somewhere according to him as well as the manual. I have yet to find them. The thing runs like a champ and carries my 260 lb self like nothing. I want to learn as much as i can about this thing and keep it in good working condition as i would love to be able to use it in my effort to build my dream garden and feed my family. i plan on having way more than i need so i can sell some at the local farmers market and donate the rest to charity. I'm hoping i can sell enough to sustain the garden and keep a decent donation while still feeding at least my wife and I. This may take some years to get right but its kind of a dream/goal of mine to accomplish and hope this tractor will help me get the job done! well thats my wheel horse story, so far. if anyone can point me in the right direction about my 211-5SB and what i can learn. I really don't know much about it but i know i can handle taking good care of it. just need an education on the damn thing! I am an apprentice mechanic by trade so im pretty handy. as far as maintenance i dont know what to put in the thing or how often to change it or common things to look for. I'm also super interested in implements for gardening that might help with my project. sorry for the long post just so excited for this to get going. I cant wait for the spring time!

Hey sports fans ... gee, only 70 and rain today ... hee hee!! Dads still in the rehab joint, making good progress, but still has a ways to go. Spending lots of time there, so the horse is taking a back seat. I did finish up the exhaust, so I thought I would share a peek!! I said a "peek"!!! lol

bama, can you give some details on what your transmission is or isn't doing? As Jim mentioned, the cross reference will get you going on the seals and bearings. The only seals that can't be found outside of Toro is the axle seals. They still had some a few months ago when I bought a pair. The gears can be had but you would need to find out which ones you needed. Check out Stevasaurus's videos and you'll get a good idea of what you're dealing with when you open it up for inspection. Post pictures and ask questions and you'll find that the folks here will gladly offer all the help you'll need.

Everyone loved the idea, better than handing them a few hundred $$ to spend, he takes care of it, it can serve him for years, and I know a guy that has lots of parts to keep it going.

First - great videos and good ideas. Thanks. And yes, the front end is upside down. Wow, what a screw up on my part. I did get the tie rod straightened and it is installed per the diagram. The video shows the tie rod being heated before straightening. Did I mess up again by pounding it back into the straight condition at room temperature? I'll tune the front end turned over and get back to you guys. Thanks so much from a newbe to the art. Jon

Here is a pulverizer I built for sowing grass, that is why the roller is on the back. It's really to heavy to lift with a manual lift. It would loosen the gravel drive.

I tried the hdpe route, was very disappointed. This is the ultimate solution. Wheels ( 6 inch, I think) good for 150 lbs each, two 4 inch long 1/2 inch bolts (you half to cut some threads off, the reason for 4 inch long is so the bearings on the wheel will ride on the shoulder of the bolt), all available at TSC for under $25. Cut the bottom of your worn out skids off, weld the bolt on the remainder of the skid. No more making adjustments due to wearing skid material.

Here's a new twist in loading ramps , They convert from a tongue mounted carrier to a set of loading ramps . Wish I would have thought of this . For $200.00 they're about the same price as a good set of aluminum ramps ( with added benefits ) When mine finally wear out , you can bet I'll be calling these guys . They look a lot more secure too . Mods can move this if they want as I could not find a specific category for these .

Have used a number of these thrust washers to take up "slop" on the front Horse wheels. http://www.qbcbearings.com/buyrfq/ThrustB_Washer_SL_SB_I.htm Fast service and not expensive.

A little warmer today and cleanded out the valley of oil and its looking like the leak is from the HPOP. Most likely from the pumps mounting gasket. Thinking of doing a complete O ring repacment on all the hoses and fittings, also installing the nonserviable plug kit. I also notied the exhaust servo in the turbo stand is wet. Turbo has a lot of lag and may need attention. So I plan on rebuilding the turbo stand exhaust brake servo and the turbo while i'm in there. Diesel O rings has it all I need for around $300. Only got 12 MPG on the last tank of diesel, but it had about 2 hours of warm ups in the morning as its been in the single digits the last few days. But I expected that in the winter. I do use the Extreme Deisel with the heat aditive and cetain boost. I have to say its a blast to drive and with a little TLC it should last for many more years to come. The power is nice to have with that big truck!

Well, went to look at / buy another 312-8.The owner also had a Case 446.Being a good salesman,he convinced me that I also needed the case. Two 40 minute trips later,I have them both home. The Case has a 48 inch left discharge mower and a 16 horse Onan.I know. Some folks here hate Onans. It runs great.I'd like to find a snowblower or snow plow for it.That Case is a beast of a tractor. It's in my shop now next to a WH 520H.The 520 looks pretty small next to it.What's on the hood of the 312,I don't know if it was the previous owners nick name or the name of the horse.Enjoy the pics.

Have one for a few years that came from Ken B. Overall the best Wheelhorse here. A real workhorse indispensible here. Always looking foward plowing with this thing. A word of caution. Check connections at rectifier. Make sure nothing gets shorted there. It will fry stator which is nearly impossible to find, and when you do put your seat belt on.EXPENSIVE. Your tractor has a breakerless ignition, no points, only a special coil, trigger and a three wire stator. Great find and good luck with it.

Well guys, I think you've solved my crazy steering problem for me. I turned the front end bar over and the steering now goes to both extremes and hits the stops and can be turned back without locking up. The true test will happen though when I take the horse out for a spin, which I'll do after I repair the leak in the "new" carburetor float I just bought on eBay. Jon

A couple of recent improvements I had to move the original exhaust cause the new led light housing is plastic, and an inch away!! And a new wire for the chute means I don't have to get off the machine and turn it by hand every minute and get sprayed In The face when the wind turns! She definitely drives and runs extremely well. I love it and currently searching for cheap attachments and any D models. But I do still need to fix the auger engagement lever, it pops back up when I hit a bump! And the hydro lever isn't tight enough or adjusted, it drifts back to neutral.

that's what cemented my bad attitude toward "lifetime warranties" - how simple it is for the seller to give you a new one. Not a bad deal if you are returning a screwdriver, but what about an auto starter or alternator? 3 years ago, I replaced a funky OEM starter in my wife's car. Within 6 months I had to return the "lifetime warrantied" reman'd replacement due to poor cranking. Pain in the rear to get out and back in but of course it was "free". Within another few months the first replacement starter began to squeal and I ended up replacing another reman'd replacement for "free". Thankfully, this one is still working 2 years later. The point is even tho the starter replacements were "free", my time isn't and I lost a few nice fishing days to putting "free" parts in my car 3 times over. Same with wrenches, etc. That trip to HF isn't "free" when you swapout your "free" replacement wrenches. In fact, when gas was more expensive and an F350 was the only vehicle around to use - well - I don't want to be reminded how much it cost me to get "free" replacements.

What is more fun than hauling home a new Horse! I get pretty excited when all of the thoughts begin flyin thru my mind about how my latest find is going to turn out... Restoration is fun for me. With my other hobbies I have room for 6 tractors. When the time does come to sell or trade (my favorite) I'm content in knowing that they ALWAYS leave my place in better shape than they arrived... It may sound a little corny but I like to rescue the ones that have been put out to pasture.. I was offered a lot of money for my little Hot Rod Suburban at last yrs. Big Show. Not for sale. This is the one tractor that anytime I ride it I'm a little kid again without a care in the world! FUN. That is what its all about for me... I can remember the day my son Cole went to pick up my Suburban and 633 (which also got restored) from Cre1992 (aka Charles) The whole ride home I was so full of excitement, it was like I was 10 yrs. old again, without a care in the world!

What started in 1973 was a lawn ranger to plow snow ...40 years later (an 40+ WHs later) I have proof that the addiction has become a friendship thing....one day I had to upgrade my cell phone..young gal started downloading my contact list (she said it would only take a minute)...minutes later she said "how many people do you know?...then she said did you know you have 364 contacts?...I said "is that all".....cause you see I have met a ton on people because of that little red ranger and I always save their phone number....probably half of the numbers belong to you guys....if I've ever met you or talked to you I've got your number and consider you as MY FRIEND....and my RS member number is seven (7) so proof that I know alot of you guys (including Mr Cecil Pond). So if you want to be added to my list of 364. just call me about anything that is faded red and makes noise...I'll probably add ya~~!!......816-806-9774 PS: I still have that little faded red Lawn Ranger and snow blade!!....might get to use it this week!!!

Well also mid-weight Craig. The metal seats are only about and 1 1/2 to two off the fenders and the spring does wear a little after years of service. This little "lift" device keeps the seat way off the fenders regardless of weight/load. It also gives you about and inch or more of extra leg room and can hardly be seen from the back of the tractor!

Sometimes I have to pull the pto lever back to make the starter switch work and it has not changed in years so I don't think it is a fast wearing problem. Have you seen the detailed wiring diagrams? Each circuit has it's own diagram making it easier to understand. Garry

The 200 series get a bad rap. I had a 210-H that mowed, plowed and blew snow for 20 yrs. with out almost any problems at all.
