Great pictures guys...love that Elgin Outboard. Well, Ive restored (re-built) a number of Wheel Horse transmissions again this year, but I got into fixing up a bunch of old chairs that have been over at my Mom's for years. I think I have done about 9 or 10 this year. Here is a couple of picks...

Didn't do anything non wheel horse, but did finish my lawn ranger and 58, and worked on a 59 and 57 that aren't done yet.

Just wondering what you restore when not working on your tractor. This is what I restored this year. first a 1929 Maytag washing machine motor then a 1947 Elgin outboard. Next a 1925 Stover 2hp hit & miss motor and finally my 1964/854 Wheel horse. Different challenge on each project, but the feeling was the same when they cranked over the first time.

Did a mechanical restoration to get this ol' back on it's feet... can't speak to what extent the operator got "restored" though.

Hi all, I was lucky enough to purchase Ian's, quite famous, 312-8! I picked it up yesterday and have done a few things to it today. It's definitely going to be a worker As it arrived.. Removed the deck: Ags all round.. Testing the ball hitch.. Snow blade mounted.. Thanks for looking! Tom

got the new rod in the k181 tonight got it all put back together runs great going to try the plow out tomoworo sometime

I bought a 1958 RJ Wheel Horse December of 2013 located in Oklahoma and picked it up with five attachments in March of 2014. One of the attachments was a front cutter bar or sickle bar. The 32 inch bar is often seen on an RJ Wheel Horse. The front cutter bar actually started as an attachment on the Pond two wheel tractors and was converted/redesigned for the four wheel tractors Pond/Wheel Horse was making before 1958. I already had one of these front cutter bars and even though we had three RJ's I did not think we need two of these attachments as I had completely rebuilt the one we already had. I sold to another Red Square member and delivered to the "Big Wheel Horse Show" in Pennsylvania in June. Checking I found a two page operating and parts manual which I made a PDF of today and I am posting for others to use. One of the interesting instructions on the first page of the manual is about moving the cutter bar to the right side -as a side mount when cutting taller weeds ! This manual is for the 2 wheel Pond/Wheelhorse tractor. Thanks Steve, here's a bit more for you to read Even though I have not posted anything about Why Not for a few weeks work has slowly been happening.. When I left off at the end of the last update I had just started making new wheel centers.. Like so Which eventually turned into this... The raised bit is a nice tight fit in the center of the wheel which means the new wheel center is centralized in the center of the wheel And from the outside it looks like this.. Please note the widened wheel rim was used for photographic purposes only and won't be going on Why Not.. Bolt holes drilled... The extra two holes were the result of me making a jig out of ally to drill the holes accurately.... The trouble with ally is it's rather soft to use as a jig and one of the new holes ended up a couple of mm's in the wrong place! Time to break out the welder.. Lot's of tacks to stop it moving with heat.. Fully welded in.. A mixture of neat strong welds and not quite so neat but still strong welds The blackish ring seen on the inside shows good heat penetration.. Next up was to remove the old wheel center... Once it was cleaned up you could see the join between the new wheel center and the old metal, so I carefully ground out a V along the join and.... Back filled the V with plenty of weld With the welds and the raised center carefully ground down to make it all smooth and level.. I could finally bolt a Wheel Horse wheel to a Reliant rear axle

I picked up the fittings that I needed to finish the plumbing on the lines today and some hoses resized for a better fit. After getting it all plumed up I started to fill it with oil and bleed the system. I found out 2 gallons was too much. I need to put some kind of sight glass to know the level of the tank. It squirted oil out the vent all over the place. [emoji107] too cold out to dig the hose and purple power to wash it off. Any how it works ok but I need to get a better belt. This cheep one stretched out fast! There was no feathering of the levers for slow movement. I am thinking it was the slipping belt causing this. I ran it many times through all the motions and felt the speed of the bucket up and down was very good. Tilt was a little slower but still very acceptable. Any how pics of the loader and 3 point on at the same time. This one has all 4 tires off the ground eaven know it doesn't look it the rears are about 1" in the air. Very happy so far [emoji3] It fits in the 12' deep shed with about 6" to spare.

I can't believe how much I have missed the "Tomahawk Chop". Can you tell I am being sarcastic??? I can't believe they allow that stuff in the Rose Bowl.

Well, not that I am happy abut how SEC has played becasue I had many picks with them, BUT I am happy that they are not dong justice to the SEC Conference. I thought it was supposed to be the toughest conference in College Football.... Does not apprear to be that way in the bowl games.... They sucked worse than the Big 10 last year! Rob

Thanks Steve ,, I am where I deserve to be ,, I had all my picks on a text thought about them .... sat there again - looked again and changed a few (5) winners that turned out to be losers . I played odds that these would be upsets. Only thing upset is my feelings.. By the way I know this member eats , sleeps , and dreams of #6. I got better things to do than that. The bearings are easy to replace I've done a couple I'll post a pick for the needle bearings and seals it looks worth saving

I dislike the new format too. Took me a while to figure it out. I also hate that you can't see who started a thread just by reading the header. You have to open it and scroll back to the top. Who ever created Tapatalk obviously doesn't use it.

New doors on the house, a new kitchen stove, and little trinkets. This was the year that my wife and I decided to put money in to the new house. My son Zach was the big winner with a new blade for his tractor. He was pretty excited when he went outside!

Nah, that's my tripod Brandon. It does more than steady the shot. Owen likes to take a few naps while in the stand so with the rifle on the tripod, he knows where it is when I wake him. Also keeps from spilling the primer power from the pan. No buck yet. It is getting tougher to stay on stand with these temps in the 20s.

Ed, Momma let you use the camera tripod for hunting season? Cant be that hard to hold that short flintlock up for Owen. LOL!! Good luck on him getting his buck!

Thanks k2wilson. Ironman no issues to my knowledge,a lot of companies and models used the Ross box. From what I have read Wheel Horse switched because they couldn't get enough Ross steering boxes to keep up with production. As for the spindles,I would say no because the ones on this tractor look fine after 50 plus years but this is the first 953 that I recall ever seeing with this style of spindle so I really don't know.

Does that mean Da BEARS are going to draft that guy???

Some of the nicest stacks I've seen come from Bed Bath and Beyond. Stainless bathroom fixtures in different shapes and sizes cheap.

In addition to the round filter, I use a HEPA filter bag in my vac. It makes a big difference in how much dust escapes. I like Save Old Iron's idea to connect a hose to the outlet port. Will try this next time. Sent from my tractor seat.

Either belt # 1599 at 138" or # 110265 at 141", depending upon type of tiller connection / configuration.

No luck yet with the flintlock. Plenty of doe, but Owen is holding out for a buck. We are getting some quality time together in the tent. Hoping the other three Grandsons follow Owens lead, and catch the hunting bug.

had to work this morning and after work I picked up a better belt to do some more testing. Boy its cold out there! had to turn down the pressure releif valve to lower the pressure to get the new belt from smoking when under load and that worked much better. I wish the ground wasn't frozen so I could do some more playing with it, I did try to pick up the back of my s10 and it picked up the back of the tractor with no problem. Might try turning the valve a little more as it still has a little bit a belt slipping. Have to wait for warmer weather! I will try to get a video up tomarrow.

Heres a shot of the - rather worn - spindles on my well documented 1054 s/n 50203, as can be seen they have the gussets.

Are you trying to add weight or reduce the chance of flats? I added 5 gallons each to my 20x10-8s on the Cub Cadet (no tubes) and it helped quite a bit. Then I got the Work Horse and mounted the included wheel weights with the same results. Thought about adding liquid but the weights are easier to mount and remove, and don't interfere with changing tires when the time comes. If you're preventing flats, maybe a tire with more plies would be a good option too.

As to the belt, some members have gone to Napa or TSC and gotten the cheap belts, and some members, myself included, have ordered the belt through Toro as it comes with a covering on the belt to provide that extra grab... yes its pricey but You'll only ever need to buy one (mine is Six years old and looks brand new)

tt well I did not have to pull the dash pulled the 2 bolts from the pto bracket unhooked the throttle cable slid the bracket of the throttle cable. installed the switch in that hole tt pointed out, oh had to disconnect the pto rod no big deal installed the wiring put her back together and whala bug eyes well thanks to you tt no more holes and looks really good thanks to all who gave me suggestions I really appreciate your help dave sr happy new year to all you guys

Little late to the party but use the Napa/Wix 1410 Hydro filter. 3 times the filter for half the price. I cut open a Toro filter. once but didn't take pics, Here's the insides of the 1410
