Last summer I sold this 520H and front loader to one of our fine members. I used the proceeds to buy this: and this... So we could do this: And this: At a time when I needed less junk to work-on, I waded in deeper! Got great deals on the equipment and ALL of it needed wrenching to go into the field - and am still wrenching on it this winter - so haven't had much if any time to post to this fine forum. But we made over 1,000 square bales, we'll see what 2015 brings. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!! Bill

Hi all, I was lucky enough to purchase Ian's, quite famous, 312-8! I picked it up yesterday and have done a few things to it today. It's definitely going to be a worker As it arrived.. Removed the deck: Ags all round.. Testing the ball hitch.. Snow blade mounted.. Thanks for looking! Tom

Just wondering what you restore when not working on your tractor. This is what I restored this year. first a 1929 Maytag washing machine motor then a 1947 Elgin outboard. Next a 1925 Stover 2hp hit & miss motor and finally my 1964/854 Wheel horse. Different challenge on each project, but the feeling was the same when they cranked over the first time.

Stripped down to frame and rear end. Sanded and painted. Bits and pieced being painted. Tunnel rear section where cracked has been repaired. Also tore down deck. No issue with rust but lots of cracks and some really bad globs of weld here and there. Cleat

I posted a couple pics about a month ago.My 702 was just a stripped frame then.Check out the pics now.I sand blasted, primed and painted the frame and front axle.Blasted, primed and painted the rims.Put on new tubes and tires.Assembled whats done so far into a rolling chassis. The seat ,rear fenders and tool box are blasted and waiting for primer and paint.Gotta combine the best parts of 2 Kohler 7 horse engines into one, clean up the engine and paint it.Been slow going.Had a cold for about 3 weeks that I just can't shake.Enjoy the pics.

Alright, so I wanted to take a minute and give a Huge Thank You to Geno! He offered the use of his uber shop to change the ball joints in my pickup. Who can say no to a heated space thats ... well honestly, I had sweat at a few points...so it's well heated! He took not only time to move stuff so I could actually get the truck into his shop, he took time away from horses to give me a hand when needed. It was great to have the ability to get both Sides (four ball joints) done in a little over 4 hours. He even pulled out the Code Reader thingy to help Diagnose what is going on with the 6.0 PSD in my truck. Oh and as payment for this awesomeness...I cooked some Ribs for him and Sandra that they both sound like they love immensely ... Pictures!

I didn't really need it but this one was just a few miles up the road from my house. Runs a little rough but it starts up instantly. HC rear end is noticeably faster than the H. Came with a 48" deck that operates smoothly but will need a cleanup to determine actual condition and a 2 stage snow blower in great shape. Cleat

I recently picked up this 953 from a friend. It runs, the hydro and deck seem to work fine and he said he mowed with it once so it should drive fine too but I haven't tried it yet. It defiantly needs some work, including being rewired but overall a good solid tractor. It is serial number 155 ! I have some questions. The pump sticks out past the cover so it is off,I have been told the early 953's had the longer pump with a cut out for it in the guard ? The guard that came with this tractor does not have a cutout. Also the front spindles on this tractor don't look like other 953 spindles that I have seen (this is the third 953/1054 that I have had). What should the early spindles look like, were they different from later 953 spindles ? Somebody did cut a hole in the hood to check the oil and while that sucks, they did such a good job that it looks factory if you didn't know better.

The bearings are easy to replace I've done a couple I'll post a pick for the needle bearings and seals it looks worth saving

No luck yet with the flintlock. Plenty of doe, but Owen is holding out for a buck. We are getting some quality time together in the tent. Hoping the other three Grandsons follow Owens lead, and catch the hunting bug.

Heres a shot of the - rather worn - spindles on my well documented 1054 s/n 50203, as can be seen they have the gussets.
  12. 2 points
They must have changed spindle design early my sn is 62-533. I've got two seat backs off of 1054's and the angle of the back are different. Unfortunately my 953's was missing when I got it. I have two gt14 they have a different spindles than my 953.

I don't think that will be a issue Geno,my rusty stuff will always out number my shiny stuff but that's OK with me. I have a thing for old rusty stuff.

Havent put time in on it due to battling bronchitis. Our little guy has it along with an ear infection, wife and I have it, grandma has it. Its like an infestation within the family........anywho gathered up enough energy to pull myself off the couch and go the shop for some fresh air and to "cobble" a few things together. Please don't mind the mismatched hardware, misaligned slats, and a bench that appears to be leaning abit. All items to be corrected. I think you guys get the idea. Should look pretty nice once cleaned up.

I picked up the fittings that I needed to finish the plumbing on the lines today and some hoses resized for a better fit. After getting it all plumed up I started to fill it with oil and bleed the system. I found out 2 gallons was too much. I need to put some kind of sight glass to know the level of the tank. It squirted oil out the vent all over the place. [emoji107] too cold out to dig the hose and purple power to wash it off. Any how it works ok but I need to get a better belt. This cheep one stretched out fast! There was no feathering of the levers for slow movement. I am thinking it was the slipping belt causing this. I ran it many times through all the motions and felt the speed of the bucket up and down was very good. Tilt was a little slower but still very acceptable. Any how pics of the loader and 3 point on at the same time. This one has all 4 tires off the ground eaven know it doesn't look it the rears are about 1" in the air. Very happy so far [emoji3] It fits in the 12' deep shed with about 6" to spare.

Another thing most people don't understand or think about, and the last pic made me think to share, the narrower the tire the better the grip you will get, it relates to PSI pounds per square inch, a fat tire spreads your weight out over a larger area, defeating the purpose of more weight, were a skinny tire puts it in a small spot and in a way makes it act like your tractor is heavier, wide tires in mud or dirt is fine but not ice and snow.

We may do that. It is missing the grille but other than that it's complete, original seat, headlamps even the rear lamp, every thing works on it down to the generator lamp and purrs like a kitten.

Yesterday I was using my newly acquired blasting cabinet. I have it hooked up to a vacuum and thought this was good enough to keep from breathing the dust that escapes from the cabinet. My shop is crowded, so I usually move the two tractors that are parked in the center of the shop out the back door and then move them back in when I come inside for the day. Since it is colder now I had both the garage doors closed while I was using the blaster. I am using 80 grit glass beads by the way. When I finished, I opened the rear door to move the tractors back in and I was surprised to see a large cloud of dust billowing up into the sky. I suddenly realized that I had spent several hours breathing all this dust into my lungs. I will wear a face mask from now on.

I think I may have a problem. It's gonna take till this weekend to get it all figured out but here's a start. Sandra is gonna try to get all the numbers run today and a list of at least the tractors, they are scattered everywhere. The first 2 pics are what was in the room at his place. There were more parts outside the room and more stuff at another location. We haven't unloaded 3 of the truck beds and cabs full of parts yet so I have no idea what's there either. The only thing we did get unloaded from the trucks and in the shop was the 4 wheel wagon.

I've been using tapatalk for about two years now and all of a sudden everything has changed. The format has completely changed. It took me 30 minutes just to figure out how to start a new topic. Has anyone else run into problems with tapatalk? Sent from my tractor seat.

Not happy at all with TSC's Majic. Have had excellent results usin' Rustoleum Regal Red and Duplicolor's Heavy Duty Wheel paint. Silver Duplicolor wheel paint for the 400's and 500's. For white rims, I use Rustoleum off white, linen or whatever it's called (can in barn, to check color). I might add the Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric paint is tops. Black on a grey tractor seat (pic below), excellent, Red for my pickup fabric seats and a throw rug (an apple front of the 'fridge floor) for the Mrs. Holds up great.

Nobody ever has... front hitch is the only way, but turning brakes help tremendously especially on loaded grain wagons. My dad even mounted a front hitch to his zero turn to move empty hay wagons used in the green house for moving bedding plants.

I got this little C81 a few days ago.I have known of the tractor thru a couple of owners (both friends) for a couple of years. It's nice enough to be a worker but not so nice to be afraid to use it every day. I used a little rubbing compound to get the paint to shine a little. Looks like a little paint on the wheels and a seat and it will turn out pretty nice. I also just bought a nice solid rd 42 inch deck complete with covers from someone else for the huge sum of $25 that will go nicely on this tractor.

I pressed out the old bearings, the flange was just unrolled, put new bearings from mower spindle stash, and worked the roll back down over bearing. Tried on a smaller bearing pulley (mower idler) and rolled lip split (determined the outer race is a must to get a push on) and bearing came apart leaving race in pulley, experiment failed there. Mule pulley seems to be working fine though. Just need about four or five more to fix up for spare mules and refine process.

My tractor has the spindles as pictures by pacer, again I don't know if the tractor was born with them, and my tractor is 62-304.

Rusty, Congrats on a great find. I just went out and looked at the spindles on my 953 and it has the reinforced style mentioned by others. They may or may not be original to the tractor, I don't know. My tractor is serial number 304, it does have the ross steering sector and early steering wheel, there are pictures of my tractor posted in the repair and restoration forum under 953 just out of the shop. Lane Ranger was also kind enough to post some pictures of a VERY nice steering wheel there also. Again great find, enjoy!!!! David

Kelly hit the nail on the head with the narrow tires... Years ago I had a 1276 with a healthy 14 hp Kohler transplanted under the hood. We had a serious blizzard going for a few days and we ended up with 2 feet of snow. I wasn't home for a few days because I was working on a snow crew at the time driving a pay loader with a 24 ft blade on it. When I got home that old 1276 (1476?) Got it done! Sure, I had to work the livin hell out of it but with the only other alternative being a snow shovel.. You get the drift. Other than a few bolts comin loose here and there nothing broke. I did have loaded 6x12's with 2 link chains on that tractor, it was unstoppable and I could ride it right up the snow banks... Them narrow tires saved my back that day. Thanks for reminding me about that one Kelly...

I thought they changed the axle hubs to black the next year when they started using the magnum engines.

I'm not a betting man, but after seeing the underside of that hood I would put money on that tractor being the one I rescued a long time ago. It left here around 5 years ago and went to Ft. Wayne, IN. The only picture I could find: Here's a video:

Wow No. H and / or HT is crankshaft orientation (Horizontal) V would denote vertical shaft. 55 = 5.5hp The letter suffix included in the basic model number (A, B, C, D, etc.) is the change progression in the basic model. 1170, 3088, 3089, etc. is the spec number (used to identify application and specific parts from the manual) P indicates a Phelon magneto W (or no letter) would be a Wico magneto.

Look at the aircraftspruce website for a small quantity of resorcinol glue, my quick research suggests that it is an excellent glue but that it requires tight fitting joints, proper clamping and that the formaldehyde compounds are an irritant that may cause long term health issues if proper precautions are not followed.

    We have 16 of them so far with model and matching engine numbers that we are sure of what they are, more to come Friday when Sandra comes back to work. 1964 1054 1968 Charger 12 Auto 1968 Raider 12 8sp 1968 Raider 9 8sp 1968 Commando 8 4sp 1969 Work Horse 700 4sp (2) 1969 Charger 12 Auto 1970 Commando V8 3sp 1971 Raider 10 6sp 1973 16 Auto (2) 1973 Raider 12 8sp - I thought all the 73's were no names, or the master model list is wrong again? 1975 C-100 8sp 1977 b-100 8sp 1977 C-120 Auto
