7 pointsLast summer I sold this 520H and front loader to one of our fine members. I used the proceeds to buy this: and this... So we could do this: And this: At a time when I needed less junk to work-on, I waded in deeper! Got great deals on the equipment and ALL of it needed wrenching to go into the field - and am still wrenching on it this winter - so haven't had much if any time to post to this fine forum. But we made over 1,000 square bales, we'll see what 2015 brings. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!! Bill

6 pointsHi all, I was lucky enough to purchase Ian's, quite famous, 312-8! I picked it up yesterday and have done a few things to it today. It's definitely going to be a worker As it arrived.. Removed the deck: Ags all round.. Testing the ball hitch.. Snow blade mounted.. Thanks for looking! Tom

6 pointsJust wondering what you restore when not working on your tractor. This is what I restored this year. first a 1929 Maytag washing machine motor then a 1947 Elgin outboard. Next a 1925 Stover 2hp hit & miss motor and finally my 1964/854 Wheel horse. Different challenge on each project, but the feeling was the same when they cranked over the first time.

5 pointsStripped down to frame and rear end. Sanded and painted. Bits and pieced being painted. Tunnel rear section where cracked has been repaired. Also tore down deck. No issue with rust but lots of cracks and some really bad globs of weld here and there. Cleat

3 pointsI posted a couple pics about a month ago.My 702 was just a stripped frame then.Check out the pics now.I sand blasted, primed and painted the frame and front axle.Blasted, primed and painted the rims.Put on new tubes and tires.Assembled whats done so far into a rolling chassis. The seat ,rear fenders and tool box are blasted and waiting for primer and paint.Gotta combine the best parts of 2 Kohler 7 horse engines into one, clean up the engine and paint it.Been slow going.Had a cold for about 3 weeks that I just can't shake.Enjoy the pics.

3 pointsAlright, so I wanted to take a minute and give a Huge Thank You to Geno! He offered the use of his uber shop to change the ball joints in my pickup. Who can say no to a heated space thats ... well honestly, I had sweat at a few points...so it's well heated! He took not only time to move stuff so I could actually get the truck into his shop, he took time away from horses to give me a hand when needed. It was great to have the ability to get both Sides (four ball joints) done in a little over 4 hours. He even pulled out the Code Reader thingy to help Diagnose what is going on with the 6.0 PSD in my truck. Oh and as payment for this awesomeness...I cooked some Ribs for him and Sandra that they both sound like they love immensely ... Pictures!

2 pointsI didn't really need it but this one was just a few miles up the road from my house. Runs a little rough but it starts up instantly. HC rear end is noticeably faster than the H. Came with a 48" deck that operates smoothly but will need a cleanup to determine actual condition and a 2 stage snow blower in great shape. Cleat

2 pointsI recently picked up this 953 from a friend. It runs, the hydro and deck seem to work fine and he said he mowed with it once so it should drive fine too but I haven't tried it yet. It defiantly needs some work, including being rewired but overall a good solid tractor. It is serial number 155 ! I have some questions. The pump sticks out past the cover so it is off,I have been told the early 953's had the longer pump with a cut out for it in the guard ? The guard that came with this tractor does not have a cutout. Also the front spindles on this tractor don't look like other 953 spindles that I have seen (this is the third 953/1054 that I have had). What should the early spindles look like, were they different from later 953 spindles ? Somebody did cut a hole in the hood to check the oil and while that sucks, they did such a good job that it looks factory if you didn't know better.

2 pointsThe bearings are easy to replace I've done a couple I'll post a pick for the needle bearings and seals it looks worth saving
-
2 pointsNo luck yet with the flintlock. Plenty of doe, but Owen is holding out for a buck. We are getting some quality time together in the tent. Hoping the other three Grandsons follow Owens lead, and catch the hunting bug.
-
2 pointsHeres a shot of the - rather worn - spindles on my well documented 1054 s/n 50203, as can be seen they have the gussets.
-
2 pointsThey must have changed spindle design early my sn is 62-533. I've got two seat backs off of 1054's and the angle of the back are different. Unfortunately my 953's was missing when I got it. I have two gt14 they have a different spindles than my 953.

2 pointsI don't think that will be a issue Geno,my rusty stuff will always out number my shiny stuff but that's OK with me. I have a thing for old rusty stuff.

2 pointsHavent put time in on it due to battling bronchitis. Our little guy has it along with an ear infection, wife and I have it, grandma has it. Its like an infestation within the family........anywho gathered up enough energy to pull myself off the couch and go the shop for some fresh air and to "cobble" a few things together. Please don't mind the mismatched hardware, misaligned slats, and a bench that appears to be leaning abit. All items to be corrected. I think you guys get the idea. Should look pretty nice once cleaned up.

2 pointsI picked up the fittings that I needed to finish the plumbing on the lines today and some hoses resized for a better fit. After getting it all plumed up I started to fill it with oil and bleed the system. I found out 2 gallons was too much. I need to put some kind of sight glass to know the level of the tank. It squirted oil out the vent all over the place. [emoji107] too cold out to dig the hose and purple power to wash it off. Any how it works ok but I need to get a better belt. This cheep one stretched out fast! There was no feathering of the levers for slow movement. I am thinking it was the slipping belt causing this. I ran it many times through all the motions and felt the speed of the bucket up and down was very good. Tilt was a little slower but still very acceptable. Any how pics of the loader and 3 point on at the same time. This one has all 4 tires off the ground eaven know it doesn't look it the rears are about 1" in the air. Very happy so far [emoji3] It fits in the 12' deep shed with about 6" to spare.
-
2 pointsAnother thing most people don't understand or think about, and the last pic made me think to share, the narrower the tire the better the grip you will get, it relates to PSI pounds per square inch, a fat tire spreads your weight out over a larger area, defeating the purpose of more weight, were a skinny tire puts it in a small spot and in a way makes it act like your tractor is heavier, wide tires in mud or dirt is fine but not ice and snow.
-
2 pointsWe may do that. It is missing the grille but other than that it's complete, original seat, headlamps even the rear lamp, every thing works on it down to the generator lamp and purrs like a kitten.

1 pointgot the new rod in the k181 tonight got it all put back together runs great going to try the plow out tomoworo sometime
-
1 pointI think I may have a problem. It's gonna take till this weekend to get it all figured out but here's a start. Sandra is gonna try to get all the numbers run today and a list of at least the tractors, they are scattered everywhere. The first 2 pics are what was in the room at his place. There were more parts outside the room and more stuff at another location. We haven't unloaded 3 of the truck beds and cabs full of parts yet so I have no idea what's there either. The only thing we did get unloaded from the trucks and in the shop was the 4 wheel wagon.

1 pointI've been using tapatalk for about two years now and all of a sudden everything has changed. The format has completely changed. It took me 30 minutes just to figure out how to start a new topic. Has anyone else run into problems with tapatalk? Sent from my tractor seat.

1 pointGlad to hear there's another commando 8 back to work looks like it has a good deck with it too
-
1 pointWell I don't stick to the narrow tire rule myself, the 520 with 26x12x12 ags is my plow tractor with over 200lbs hanging on the back of it, the other 520 is my blower tractor with 23x10.5x12 turfs with cleated 2 link chains and 55lbs wheel weights both do great till ice builds up and the then ags don't cut it, the chains pull through everything, if I had a choice turfs and chains will win This was last year, no real snow this year
-
1 pointNobody ever has... front hitch is the only way, but turning brakes help tremendously especially on loaded grain wagons. My dad even mounted a front hitch to his zero turn to move empty hay wagons used in the green house for moving bedding plants.
-
1 pointThanks Glenn, that wire is meant to keep hands out I think, nothing more. I took mine out. My chute is a little longer than the factory one which I believe is 8". MalMac helped me with photos and someone else too I forget but he posted his on here and we chatted before I made mine. In Canada it was going to be over $50.00 plus taxes of 13%. I don't think the metal cost me $5.00. 22 gauge If I remember correctly.
-
1 pointi don't disagree with the theory of the narrow tires giving better traction but, my dad's D200 with 26x12x12 turf tires and 180 # of calcium and 50 # of wheel weights we ran it most of the time with out chains and last year i have a 416-H and was plowing but really struggling, getting the job done but with a lot of wheel spin. now it has Carlisle 23x8.50x12 ag tires and then i got my 520-H with 23X10.50X12 Carlisle super lug tires on it. and it went real good with out chains it went as good with out chains as the 416-H with chains. so i know how it's suppose to work, but that's not the way it played out last year for me anyways eric j

1 pointLooks like I'll be having some fun today lol. I just don't get why the fitting on the New pump isn't the same diameter as the hose like it was on the old pump. Mumble grumble.

1 pointThat's what we're supposed to be here for, to help each other. I really will work for food.

1 pointThe 953 manual is here - http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/download/1871-tractor-1963-953-da-om-ipl-wiringpdf/ The middle file - Tractor 1963 953 IPL #A-7136.pdf, page 19, # 10 + 11 on the diagram shows the spindle without the reinforcement for the 953. The 1054 Manual is here - http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/download/11-tractor-1964-1054-da-om-ipl-wiring-177pdf/ The middle file - Tractor 1964 1054 OM IPL Wiring #177.pdf, Page 7, # 12 + 194 on the diagram shows the spindle with a reinforcement for the 1054. I wonder if there was a reinforcement type spindle on an 853 if someone may have changed them to beef up the front end, sort of like what we still do now to our tractors.
-
1 pointI thought they changed the axle hubs to black the next year when they started using the magnum engines.

1 pointLooks nice to me. If it comes with a deck, I'd say it's worth close to the asking price. If you like it, start your offer at $600 and see what happens.

1 pointAudi or Volvo turbos r really small oh and bobcat turbos r also U won't go fast with turbo u gotta pulley swap tractor.

1 pointI'll be coming Mark, booked my cottage for the week and hope to bring 4 or 5 Wheelhorse's

1 pointLook at the aircraftspruce website for a small quantity of resorcinol glue, my quick research suggests that it is an excellent glue but that it requires tight fitting joints, proper clamping and that the formaldehyde compounds are an irritant that may cause long term health issues if proper precautions are not followed.

-
1 pointShe's crazy about them too! She hauls, loads, unloads, catalogs, pressure washes, shines, sandblasts, helps with painting and fabricating, and does other things to every single one that comes in here. She is even talking about her own truck and trailer now!

1 pointThe transmission is all back together now (whew!!) and everything looks good. The only issue was with the axle bushings which were slightly undersized and required honing (.996 ID) but not a big deal. The axle seals are the same ones taken off which have been soaking in brake fluid for the last month and are now soft and supple, they really grip the axle. Time will tell how well they hold up. A couple of pics - No binding at all and no leaks so far so the next step is to resolve the steering issues followed by paint prep. A special thanks again to Stevasaurus for posting the MI part numbers which was a tremendous help!!! More to come.
-
1 pointMaking a little more progress. Got the seat painted and mounted. Bought new cables for the throttle/choke and installed them. Found a couple of small parts that did not get painted and took care of that also. If the snow holds off till January and the temps stay decent, I might get it done in time! I'm waiting for a couple of wire terminals so I can finish the wiring harness and install it. Planning on buying one of the aftermarket carbs instead of rebuilding the old one. Need to order decals and some new knobs, etc. So many things to do and so little time/money!

1 pointThanks guys... The plan is to clean and straighten everything out... turn it into a nice driver for the tractor shows next year. Finally got my vid up loaded to YouTube... "HD" files take forever at times to up load.
