5 pointsSon 'n grandson went thru the woods to gather wood for the wood stove before the chill. The '90 520-8 keeps on rolling, trailer was filled to the top and lots more. Two other Horses have dozers mounted waitin' for the cold, wet, nasty white stuff! I made the boys clean the old Stallion, a good rub down. Gotta love and care for the Horses don't we? Have you heard of Geno's prison camp? He works the Horses so hard the Stallions sleep like rocks!

4 pointsA couple weeks ago, I picked up this D180 and snow blade for $200. It doesn't run because it needs rewired and the air breather put on. The seller still has the air breather which he'll send to me as soon as he finds it. The tractor has hydraulics, drawbar and brand new Carlisle Ag tires on the rear. I would like to get it running but will need some help. First, does anyone have a wiring diagram for a D180? Where can I find a manual for this? Also, where would be a place to get parts for this? The tractor is entirely intact (minus the air breather) except for a couple sheet metal panels which I'd like to put on. Thanks in advance! -IvanW

3 pointsWell, today was a blast to be a Dad. Little background. I have three kids, 10yr boy, 7yr girl, and 5yr girl. My girls have yet to get into tractors (other than enjoying riding in the trailer)....but my 10 yr old has been bitten bad..... by the Wheel Horse bug. He has been to 9 of 10 Wheel Horse shows since he has been born and just loves them. If any of you spend time at the teeter-totter.....you more than likely have seen him riding his tractors there, because he goes through at least a tank of gas at the show....just on the teeter-totter. My Dad started buying and restoring Wheel Horses with him over the last 4 years. Every year they would get 1-2 tractors and restore them. Now he is up to 7!! His dream tractors are 420-LSE and a 520-8. So....found a real nice 520-8 here on RedSquare that I got for his present. I got him a couple of other Wheel Horse presents that he got to open at our house this morning. Wheel Horse calendar, which featured my 314-H in the Snow for the month of January and the LED Wheel Horse light for his room. The LED Glass Etched light was posted on here the last few weeks from a member who had them made and I bought one.... and he really liked both of those presents. So, we went over to the grandparents house after lunch and everyone had opened their presents and I told him that he has a present outside....so this is were the video begins. 2 Stage Bervac 46 " Snowthrower and 520-8. The little smile that he tries to hide, just melts my heart. Here is the link to the video: So far today, he has over 1.5 hrs on it! Glad Grandpa buys the gas, Thad (Ohio)

3 pointsWell I am missing the kids as we are on Christmas break right now. Since I am down with an upper respiratory infection I thought it would be a good time to get this thread updated for all of our dedicated followers. Here is what we have going on..... More disassembly took place on the B-80 with much more hand sanding. They just love grabbing a sanding block and going to town! The kids were ecstatic for another generous gift from Mr. Thames Goon who is a local collector. We now have our very own blast cabinet to help speed up the process of the smaller parts. Here is Thomas working on getting everything hooked up so the cabinet is ready to use. More of the tractor was disassembled and getting ready for the next stage. Slowly but surely we are tidying up a few loose ends on the first tractor. I would never have imagined it would take this long. We haven't given up hope yet. We will persevere. Our new blast cabinet has been a welcomed addition! The kids are amazed on how much it speeds up the process. We have been blessed this past year with some monetary donations. With the generosity we used the donations to our fullest on Black Friday. We were able to get a shiny new shop vac to connect to our blast cabinet. As well as another set of tools so that all hands can stay busy. Now since we have an amazing building to enjoy, and we were all in the Christmas spirit, we thought it would be fitting to decorate with some super cool tractor themed Christmas lights! And here is how we left the B-80 as we all headed off for Christmas break. Much progress has been done and much more work needs to be done! 2014 was an amazing year for this club. Thank you to all of you that have supported, encouraged, and followed our journey! We can't wait to see what 2015 has in store for us!

2 pointsI quickly used some rubbing compound with a damp rag, then gave it a quick coat of wax to see how the paint looks. It cleaned up pretty good. It smokes when you first start it but clears out after a little while. I think i'm gonna give the engine and quick rebuild. The transmission feels really strong. I'll see if I can con Ken into giving me a hand and see if we can clean up the paint a little more. Someone either broke or modified the brake pedal so i'll replace that. Otherwise that's it. I'll use it for plow duty when there's not enough snow for blower.

2 pointsThere's no J hooks needed or used. The oil pan has tapped holes for the right side (PTO side). Bolts come up from under the frame into the tapped holes in the pan. Perfectly correct.
-
2 pointsIm glad that you were able to get it removed. Dealing with problems things like that can be so frustrating and stressful. Just a thought, I always put a dab of anti seize compound on drain plugs, exhaust bolts, studs or nuts, and on pins and shafts and such as where the pin passes thru the trans where the hitch attaches. I got in the habit of using it while working on my MX bikes. On a bike the drain plugs and cases on them usually of dissimilar metals and or exposed to heat or lots of moisture.and I never stopped doing it. Depending on the part such as suspension I would even mix some with the grease too.

2 pointsI'll get you a futon and some bean bags! If you have one of those telephone reels in you garage bring it. We need more tables!

2 pointsGeno, If you got any engines in the deal, look for a K241 AS as that would be the correct engine for that 1045 and a belt guard that may have remnants of 1045 in the off set. The belt guard is a bit different and only came on a 1045 and 1055. Should look like this one...

2 pointsYou are right about the area where the rock shaft is mounted should be beefier, but I don't think that would account for the cracks in the upper dash panel where the steering wheel comes through. The original owner rarely used his snow blower or plow, as they both look practically new, and I'm guessing that 90% of the time was mowing. However, if he had an uneven or rough lawn, a lot of flexing could account for the cracking.
-
2 pointsFINALLY! I did it!! A one day perfect record! Wait a minute ........I think I did that wrong
-
2 pointsMig weld the cracks. We used to keep copper blocks in our tool boxes; i.e.: 2" wide x 1/2" thick x 6" long. Clamp the copper piece behind the crack, then weld the crack. No blow outs, no blown holes. Nice looking, no excellent repairs buckrancher!

2 pointsI have had more than a few requests this year for the xi series decals. I finally got a NOS RH Hood decal and have created a set of custom Wheel Horse decals The template has been modified just a bit and the I used a carbon fiber background in this design. I need the correct dimensions for the rear fender decal so I can replicate it and also images of any other decals used on these tractors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2 pointsSanta brought me the ability to do this from home. Powdercoat. Sure will come in handy. This is my first ever batch and I am happy with the results. Need to fine tune a few steps but for my first attempt i'll take it. These are misc snowmobile parts for my sons future 1st sled.
-
2 pointsWell I scored big on this totally cool garden tractor! Probably the coolest garden tractor I have seen in a while! I had no idea that Santa was a garden tractor junky like all of us!

1 pointI used 5/8 OSB and am very pleased with it. Cost a bit more than drywall, but you can run a screw in it to hang things up and not be bothered looking for a stud. Also, when the inevitable happens and something hits the wall it won't leave a hole to patch.
-
1 pointI got the plug out by heating it with map gas and oxygen, this wasn't my plan but the idea hit me so I tried it. Last time i used propane. I don't know why it was so tight? Never had this problem with any others. Had to get it glowing and it still needed a lot of force.
-
1 pointRodgers might want to make sure his life instrance is paid up, he'll probably need a few pairs of shorts afte Suh gets ahold of him. Go Lions!!!!
-
1 pointIvan, you definitely scored a good deal, the wiring diagram should be in the manuals section on this forum. Did you get the console panel with the I.D. / Serial # tag? The inlet barb on the side of the carburetor has no fuel filter hose going to it. The pump control rod is disconnected from forward/neutral/reverse lever. Will you be replacing the alligator clip on the coil? If you need the tins for the engine I have a used set, Mark.
-
1 pointAnd that is what this forum is all about. With the suggestions that you, Brian, Don, Bailey and others have provided, along with some of my own ideas, I think this problem can be solved.
-
1 pointI installed this in my 875! I replaced the plastic slide when restoringit and it woud always jump forward on me. The new slide didn't help and it did it on a trailer for me with me on it. NOT FUN! I had a 69 charger that I parted out to save 3 other tractors and that was left over. After instillation in the 875 (not original) it is SO MUCH SAFER!! It is now a pleasure to drive and the lever now stays were i put it! Had to make some very minor modifications to the tractor tunnel, but well worth the modification!

1 pointOk, a new problem has surfaced. Haven't had much time to work on this since I got it started the last time. Started it yesterday and wanted to check the RPM's and adjust the new carb. Ran it until it had warmed up and then shut it off. Tried to restart it and it wouldn't fire. Checked for spark first and nothing! How should I trouble shoot this problem. I replaced all the wiring so I am afraid it is something in their, but I really have no idea.

1 pointThe Horse got a lift for Christmas! Will make it much easier to work on underneath. Oh I have another question too. Why do my rear axles slide in and out of the casing? I know they should not do this. Trans still works, I mean in neutral it rolls and in gear it doesent. Not sure what it could be? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
-
1 pointI guess i will change it, then and put mobil 1 in it and see what happens. thanks, muz

1 pointWhat did I get for Christmas??? A smaller checking account! Probably the best gift I did get was a Chormecast device so I can play anything from my computer on my 50" TV. No wires, just click and enjoy. Makes watching movies from the net or youtube videos nice (and with surround sound). First thing I did was pull up some Wheel Horse videos on Youtube and the family started groaning "what have we done? He is going to be doing this all the time".

1 pointWork My 312-8 project has been slow as I've been rebuilding these two cedar chest for christmas presents. Wish I had taken some before pictures This was my mom's 1947 Dowry chest. many of the "hide glue joints had come loose. (but not enough of them to fully disassemble and reassemble it) It also had bubble up shellac coating. After a lot of gluing, clamping and lacquer finish it came out better than expected. This is for my new daughter-in-law. This was my wife's mothers 1940's Dowry cedar chest. It was in bad condition, but an interesting rustic build.. The lid has an interesting storage area in it. We suspect it was built by a bachelor/farmer in New Ulm Tx who had treadle powered wood working tools. My wive's grandfather had a licquor store/barber shop and he traded wooden items he built for liquor

1 pointVery nice PA Horse! A PA Horse is a Horse of course! We have a bill pending in the Pennsylvania legislature that will prohibit out-of-staters from taking Horses out-of-state. The bill will be retroactive back to '73. Failure to return the Stallion to PA will result in a repossession and very steep financial fines. Even long jail terms! I can drop off a clean MTD (needs a little work (tranny) but again, is clean!) and pickup the Horse, on the hush hush of course! Save yourself now! I'll even pay for the gas myself unless your guilt is overwhelming! Pay up, ignorance of the law is no excuse! Consider yourself lucky................this time.

1 pointOnly drove it around the parking lot but yes, it was very comfortable. Adjustable seat and tilt wheel. I will say, the power steering is nice! Very smooth. Idle is set a little high but I am going to change fuel filter/air filter/engine oil next week and then see if I can adjust it down a notch. From what I have read this seems to be the same Daihatsu that is in the Simplicity as a 24hp. Maybe just a injector pump tweak? We'll see. If that is all it is I may have to adjust it. If there is more to it I am not doing anything. I want to keep the reliability where it belongs. Oh, and speaking of Simplicity, I have a Simplicity and am on the Simplicity user forum as well. I know I am repeating myself but this forum is by far the best out of any user forum I have seen or been a member of. Don't get me wrong, there are great guys on that site, too but the way this site is set up and how everything just flows. Hands down #1.
-
1 pointIf you weld 3/4-16 threaded rod on, you can then use 3/4-16 jam nuts(2 top and 2 bottom) to addjust up or down for cutting edge wear! Also there is no need to pin or jam screw them, they are free to turn, wearing more evenly.
-
1 pointThought I would post some recent photos. I am starting to run out of parts now and I think that is a good thing. Still thinking about rewiring everything. Anyone have any ideas on how to do that so it would look close as possible to original? Just finished painting the seat pan and I think that should just about finish the painting. I need to order some new knobs and such as well as new decals. Trying to spread out the purchases to keep my wife happy. She hasn't asked how much this has cost so far. I'm not really sure myself, probably don't want to know.
