Take a few days off and look what happens! Ok, what happened here, let's see..... On the onset, this may look like the topic suggests "Moral Decline" but that's not what I am seeing. Of course I haven't looked at the topic(s) in question, that will come next and maybe I'll have to play tricks with this post to reflect a differing opinion. But back to my point. I've been here a long time, not as long as a couple of you, but pretty long none the less. From the early days, I've seen bickering which led to people either being banned (for a short time or permanent) or the members deciding that they needed to leave on their own. I've seen things move from this forum to others, and become personal attacks, even about me all across the internet. It has happened in the past, it happens currently and it WILL happen in the future. It's not Moral Decline though, it's human nature. I suspect that since the dawn of time, these issues have occurred, long before forums, and will continue to happen long after. So is that what's happened here? Nope. It's not. What's happened here is this.... The natural course of human events took place. Someone got their feathers ruffled, and a tiff began. Now I still have to find those posts, but suffice it to say I can almost guess at the content already. BUT the reaction TO that reaction... is this thread! This one I have read, and I see everyone lending their positive views on this, justifying the opinions of others by hitting the like button, and of course complimenting the moderators for their efforts in keeping the peace (thank you it is well appreciated). With every altercation like this, we move forward just a little bit more. Sure it may seem like a step back, but it's really 2 steps forward. I'm grateful that we have a member base (regular posters and those who broke their silence to chime in on this topic) who care so much about all of you as well as the forum which we share! Maybe it's a Christmas / Holiday thing, but thank you all for contributing the positive emotions and supporting and enforcing the etiquette which we have become accustom to. This will happen again, and we'll take that step back, but we'll take another 2 forward! Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays / Good Day (for those who don't celebrate)

I had a bit of spare time one day and a few tiles left over and came up with this tile mosaic

We had about 5" yesterday, and another 5 last nite It did ok but I could really use some extra weight in the rear the adjuster lever is rigged but worked And I lost a chain link on the lift . I'm thinking of going with a solid link for the lift

As has already been said, the 1045 was a model that was made for only about 3 months in mid to late '64 to use up parts of the old round hoods. They have the old rounded rear fenders and the newer "square hood" introduced for the '65 models. 1045 tractors also have a special hood, tank stand and drive pulley guard that are unique to this model. So, if you buy a 1045, make sure it is mostly complete even if it is in rough shape. Also, the front tires are a special tread and size that are unique to the 1045, so it is a bonus if the tractor still has them. There is some debate about what the "4" in the 1045 stands for. Some say it represents 1964 since Wheel Horse was already making a 1054 tractor. I believe the "4" stands for a special model, since there was also a 1046 made in 1966, so to me the "5" in 1045 stands for 1965 (early model). All Wheel Horse catalogs also list the 1045 as a 1965 model. Here is a picture of mine, which I bought from a forum member a year ago. I really enjoy my 1045 even though it's "retired" and I don't mow with it. Even though it is a short frame tractor like my 854, it feels much more substantial with the bigger wheels and bigger, taller hood. The 1045 is one of my most favorite of Wheel Horses. Please let me know if you have any additional questions about the 1045.

First, i think Craig gets the credit for the Dupont Rain Dance finish! The tractor was a looker when I got it. We are required to help with snow removal at work. Well after my recent medical issue my shoveling days are over. So I brought Sqonk to work as part of all the other tools I have there.The hospital campus is about 15 acres with lot's of nook and crannies. Perfect for a garden tractor. We have a truck, 2 Kubota utes with plows and a loader tractor. I can cover more ground riding than walking with a shovel too. SAVE A COWBOY,RIDE A HORSE!!!!!!!

I could not leave well enough alone. I added a flash controller (bought it from Squonk at the big show) and wired it into the 520. It will have the snow thrower on it so I figure with all the noise, the flashing tail lights will get some attention. the flasher has 10 modes and I didn't show it, but the controller flashes too! not sure if the video will work. let me know if you cannot see the video. using old Photobucket. This is a keyring for my 227-5 keys, its art as it just hangs and looks pretty. made by be by laser cutting some wood and then casting metal into the mould i made, it looks fairly accurate and i love it. here was the inspiration james

Anyone who's been on this forum for more then a few years knows that we have seen waves of these issues. It comes and goes but seems to be greater when winter time hits and there's less to do. I for one have been known to have an issue here and there but always get reeled back in. For the most part this forum has had harmony. Then we've had members come along who don't offer anything "POSITIVE or HELPFUL" to the site and use it for there own personal gain or just cause problems. We love helping those who aren't tractor savvy or have a specific issue that they're just not versed in. We have a vast array of talent here that have worked on tractors for years or has specific knowledge wether it be electrical, mechanical, body, paint etc. Most of us have paid our dues one way or another. I guess when someone comes along who doesn't really help or have a need, and just wants to "show boat" or "make money", I know it gets my gall up. There are members here that don't have a ton of post but a lot of those posts have really helped people or gave out great tractor related information. Then there are members who have thousands of posts with nothing really helpful or technical but have tractor related content and that's fine too. But the "LOOK AT ME" or the "ALWAYS FOR SALE" posts I just can't take. Probably the same reason I closed my Facebook account. I don't know what the answer is and I really don't think there is one. I guess it will be up the Mods and Admins to police the forum and decide when enough's enough. Probably could use some "Sargent at Arms" Mods who sole job it is to look for these type of issues and stop them before it gets to far. Just my $0.02

Well, I have wanted one of these for a LONG time and now I finally have one. This 420 was used. It seems like it was at least taken care of mechanically. The oil was full and pretty clean and the air filter was pretty clean as well. The 20 hp Kohler runs excellent with 250 hrs. on it and its pretty friggin fast!. Cosmetically it could be better.. The paint has some chips and scratches here and there as well as the decals being a little scratched and marked up. The seat has a few tears where you sit. Thankfully I work for a leather company with a 60,000 square foot buiding full of leather so matching it up shouldn't be too difficult. The chrome isn't too bad other than the steering wheel. having EVERYTHING rechromed is pretty much out of the question because I'm pretty sure that will put me in the poor house. I'm not too sure on whether to fully restore it or leave it as a survivor.. I know I won't be able to do it this year as I'm hoping to sell my house this spring if all goes well. There just enough enough room in my current garage to properly restore this tractor. Anyway, here is how it has cleaned up since yesterday...

my Snow Plow has been missing the angle lever since I got it ...NOT COOL! I'm not about to pony up the cash for a new one from Toro, and Honestly Geno just wants far too much for the NOS one he has So I made my own ... Nothing Spectacular but thought I'd share so others can duplicate... Simple stock steel from TSC a Vice and my Jewlers Torch. Oh and a Hammer and Adjustable Wrench (to aid in bending and squaring) Still have the squeeze lever to weld up and mount then she'll be all ready for paint.

I ordered their repair manual last night part # 78-7006 built 1937 thru 50 the big problem with the gear welded on means you can'nt replace the bearing on the output shaft and yes the rev. gear is shot Brian

I almost need to get one of those grow lights to put over my desk at work. I am not getting enough sun these days..........it sucks.

Thanks for the motivation. I told my wife that somebody that knows what they are doing would have spent 1/4 the time I have working on this. I spent an hour trying to remove the valve keepers ("sleeve type") and when I finally knew what to do it only took me about a minute each to remove them. Same with putting back in. I spent 1 1/2 hr until I found the trick at which point it still took me 1/2 hr. I will definitely feel accomplished when this tractor starts. If it weren't sentimental from my grandfather I would probably be extremely angry with the whole situation given I was not expecting to do any of this. For the meter, I am fairly certain it does not have one.

I did not see the post in question. That's fine. I enjoy reading the variety of posts to see if there is WH knowledge to be gleaned. I respond at times with a compliment. I Never offer tech advice unless I have personal experience with the subject. And I am a supporter. Felt guilty get- ting info and not paying my way. My next statement is not for any sympathy. I have attended three family funerals in ten weeks. Two were dearly loved old folks and God decided it was time. The third was a child. That can certainly put things in perspective.
