16 pointsIt's not so much a "moral decline" as it is just people not getting along and having more time to gripe about it. Perhaps if we instituted a post limit per day people would think twice before wasting one, two or ten on stupid childish junk and petty arguments that don't promote the forum, answer a question or otherwise help us all out. I don't really think that's the answer by the way. We go through this crap every year or so... it's often around this time when people spend less time outdoors or in the shop on their tractors and have more time to spend online. There's a few little flame wars, some hurt feelings, usually several someones end up suspended for a week or so and then people calm down. Every year I hope that this is the year we get past all the crap and attitudes, and every year I'm disappointed. Unfortunately it's an innate function of being a social media type outlet. We want people to share their finds, their questions and generally participate, and what comes along with that are natural conflicts and disagreements. Your enjoyment of the forum in these situations depends completely on you and how you choose to either pay attention to the BS or just let it go. There's more to life than pictures and words on a computer screen. Just like anything else in life, don't let someone else dictate how you enjoy your free time. Bottom line to me... ignore people that give you grief in your life... you'll be happier.

15 pointsHi All, Added another horse to the herd last night. I got an email from a guy about a week ago who had a ranger that was his dads who had passed away a few years ago. He wanted it to go to a collector, and somehow found my website through a google search. We ended up making a deal on it and met last night to go pick it up. It is a 67 l107 ranger. Its in decent shape, needs some work, but i've never bought a tractor that didn't. Doesn't have the original motor, this one was put on it from the 80's it runs ok, but the way it is setup it always runs at the same speed, I think I will need to find the original style governor parts and a carburetor for it, because for just riding around I don't want it to always run full throttle. It has a plow that is decent shape, chains, a fairly nice mower deck and the original manual. I plan to get this one complete and everything working correct, and degrease everything.

14 pointsSad to see such a decline in member quality. When I first joined no priblems, now there are a few members who consistently just stir up trouble. So what if someone can afford to buy more tractors than you ? Don't be butt hurt. The reason we are all here is to show off all out different toys. I know the mods work hard and to a good job keeping this place ship shape, just wish some of the member would act like they aren't the most important person in the world. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. (Bms)

9 pointsWell...we're all a bunch of grown azz men, that say & do what the he!! we want... so suck it up.... get over it & .....
-
9 pointsGuess I'll share a thought on this subject since I also have noticed just in the last 2-3 wks or so, some pretty snide/cutting remarks that I felt were unnecessary and I am very hopeful it doesnt continue. As many of us do, I participate in several forums and I consider this one as the TOP ranking one.

8 pointsA wise man is quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. Read that in the Bible.I try to live my life that way. Doesnt always happen but for the most part it works. I'm easy going. It's easy for me to change the channel on my tv when I dont want to watch something and even easier to hit the "back" button and move on to another post. Love this forum and the people.

7 pointsThe publication "Horse Power" had a three page article in their Fall/Winter 1995 edition titled "The Wheel Horse Legend - 50 Years IN The Making." Included is a quote from Cecil Pond and a contest titled "The Search For The Oldest "Horse"". My thanks to Ed Cole for sharing this with me.

7 pointsI like that picture AJ...that was a great day!! I would do that again anytime. I have some strong feelings and I have been guilty of expressing them sometimes here on Red Square. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Discussion is what these forums are about. The problem comes when someone tries to force their opinion on someone or the group. I have learned that it is better to sit back and look at what you are posting and what you are trying to do...and does it add to the conversation...do I need to really say this...is it off topic?? Just some questions to ask before you post. My 2 cents. Ya know...a little humor does go a long way.

7 pointsI agree with Geno. I'm on were because I love Tractors and expressing with others what we have in common. Also like knowing there is always help available when needed. I like joking back and forth with others. It doesn't matter if someone has 1 tractor or 100 tractors. I figure the more someone can purchase the more of these wonderful tractors will get saved. If someone says something you don't like that doesn't mean it's true, just their opinion and everyone has an opinion. I always try to remember that this wonderful forum is for people that love tractors. I try to be very positive and consider other members feelings and try not to offend anyone. I consider all the other members as my friends and I haven't met any of them. My advice to you ( for what it's worth ) is just relax and enjoy the forum. You won't find a better one, I guarantee.
-
6 pointsI figured since I have a few horses just laying around I might as well use one this christmas so here are a few photos.
-
6 pointsWell I couldn't resist! It was so inviting... I will now wear my "Troll" badge with honor. (we are all friends here see... proof. I bought those drinks!!)
-
6 pointsBeing a short timer on this site and having joining for the great knowlege and experience from the members, I tend to do as my mother told me many years ago the good LORD gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason and I should not have to explan why. Just my Bob
-
6 pointsIf you have a particular member that you just can't stand, just click on your name at the top right, then select "Manage Ignore Prefs", enter that members name, and you will never have to read their posts again unless you want to. I have done that and my life is much better.

6 pointsAnyone who's been on this forum for more then a few years knows that we have seen waves of these issues. It comes and goes but seems to be greater when winter time hits and there's less to do. I for one have been known to have an issue here and there but always get reeled back in. For the most part this forum has had harmony. Then we've had members come along who don't offer anything "POSITIVE or HELPFUL" to the site and use it for there own personal gain or just cause problems. We love helping those who aren't tractor savvy or have a specific issue that they're just not versed in. We have a vast array of talent here that have worked on tractors for years or has specific knowledge wether it be electrical, mechanical, body, paint etc. Most of us have paid our dues one way or another. I guess when someone comes along who doesn't really help or have a need, and just wants to "show boat" or "make money", I know it gets my gall up. There are members here that don't have a ton of post but a lot of those posts have really helped people or gave out great tractor related information. Then there are members who have thousands of posts with nothing really helpful or technical but have tractor related content and that's fine too. But the "LOOK AT ME" or the "ALWAYS FOR SALE" posts I just can't take. Probably the same reason I closed my Facebook account. I don't know what the answer is and I really don't think there is one. I guess it will be up the Mods and Admins to police the forum and decide when enough's enough. Probably could use some "Sargent at Arms" Mods who sole job it is to look for these type of issues and stop them before it gets to far. Just my $0.02

6 pointsI don't usually comment on this type discussion, but I feel that I need to say this; I have never experienced anything other than good things here. So many willing to help, even if it means taking time out of their day to make a phone call or research technical stuff for answers to the (sometime really dumb) questions we ask. I have very limited experience with these red things, but am willing to offer what little help I can to anyone who asks for it. I see good natured, usually constructive humor very often, and to me, that makes it a little more friendly, seems to say we all are close enough, although sometime we are separated by many miles, to jab each other a little. I have not seen anything disrespectful here since I joined you fine folks and I thank you all for what you do.
-
6 pointsThank you from me also Austin. It's not hard to see AJ. I was in the middle of one last night that got the lock down trying to make peace and it's not the first one for me. I said it there and I'll say it here, people come here to relax and have fun enjoying the one thing we all love here, the Horses. My dad always told me "If you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all." This is a great place, we just all need to learn to check our bad days, attitude, whatever, at the door when we come in here and enjoy what we have in common...

5 pointsWhen old winter moves in, the hours of light diminish and most folks enter a mild state of depression without realizing it. I found this forum because of my lack of knowledge of Wheel Horse Tractors. It has opened a whole new horizon for me. If all I wanted from this forum is information on tractors, then I have found eutopia. But I also found a group of folks that have become my friends and a place to join with them in a common interest. What more can you ask for. Sure there is bound to be friction once in a while. We all have our likes and dislikes. Every once in a while something said will be taken as offensive by someone. It's bound to happen when so many people with diversive opinions and interest gather together in one place. While we all love these little red machines, Our reasons for buying and selling them are as diversified as the number of machines Wheel Horse manufactured. And guess what? It's nobody's business but the individual concerned. As for myself, I am a collector. I want to be a restorer and I am learning every day what that means. Being on this forum is like attending Wheel Horse University. Being a collector, gives me an advantage over many others, as no one seems to get fidgety or upset at the collector. The angst enters when someone buys and sells these wonderful machines and appears to be making a profit. Why? If I am able to pick up a nice Wheel Horse for a few hundred dollars and clean it up and then sell it for $2,000, that is between me and the buyer. Why should a member here get angry about it or call me out for making such a large profit for such little effort. I did not hold a gun to the buyers head. If he overpaid, the onus is on him. As I look back over some of the posts I have made, I find that I have been less tolerant than I should have been, on some matters. I promise to do better in the future. I have been active on several other forums, but after I found Red Square, I lost interest in the others. People there are just not of the quality of those found here. We should all ask ourselves if what we have posted was worthy of being seen by others. If you find something you should not have said, strive to do better the next. I know I will. This forum is too meaningful to me to have it decay into a place where everyone attacks each other. Thank you all my friends up here, who have contributed to my knowledge of these beautifuly Built in America Machines, and advanced my efforts to keep them alive and well. You know who you are and I am most appreciative.

5 pointsHey AJ. I think he is bringing it up in effort to help which is very admirable. I talked to a lot of people on the phone last night and this morning and sometimes it's not joking around like we do. I don't think there's any way to take what you and I do as serious. I also think we consider each other good friends and it shows through even when we play around. Sometimes it gets serious around here and it gets me thinking about what members and potential members alike think when they read some threads. Maybe someone becomes afraid to speak, or afraid to join because they may get bashed. We should concentrate on what we have in common, our love for the Horses and all that goes with that.

4 pointsExcellent point Steve. I just read through this thread and was at first a bit disappointed at some of the things posted. Then by the time I got to the latest posts I was laughing my butt off. I'll repeat with what many already have said, I'm on a few other forums and there ain't none that compare to this one. That would be in a good way

4 pointsI have not been involved with posting in awhile due to ... life. lol. Still reading along ,collecting, adding and building ,which, I will have show and tell for you guys soon. But I felt the need to add to this one. This forum is very well laid back and a good group of guys and I can say that without knowing most of you. There are two train forums I belong to that are just ridden with one individual that feels the need to bash, be right about everything or even if if hes not, he will back himself into a corner and just scratch his way out till he researches where he went wrong. Then comes up with a reason why his crap answer was leading to his new conclusion. He has his nose in every post and has fouled the forum for years now. Most long time members have learned to deal with him / ignore him but rarely see any new blood anymore. Be glad this forum has no issues like that. Trust me , it only takes one person to tear it all down. Technically , he is not doing anything wrong but is like the kid saying, I am not touching you ,not touching you, not touching you. With any group, young to old, you will have disagreements, poking fun, or teasing. Its all apart of life. I like that people just post what they did today with a horse, or pictures of new toys and everyone is giving thumbs up or likes the posts. I thought awhile about becoming a support here due to my bad train forum experiences but have no regrets since. Lets keep it that way PS , sometimes a topic like this does more bad then good and starts a whole new can of worms. BEWARE...

4 pointsVery well spoken Jason! But don't even think of limiting my posts. The smileys also work good to at showing intent, we should all use them more!

3 pointsI just thought id share my story, I am going to be rebuilding a 14hp kohler with some modifications and I decided I wanted to make the 1 1/8 exhaust valve a 1 3/8 valve which requires a larger valve seat, I was sticker shocked to find out that kohler gets $50! so I started shopping around and found that trough Summit Racing I found a 1 3/8 valve seat for $12 shipped to my door. SCORE! so sometimes it pays to shop around!

3 pointsGreat find Jake....Haven't heard anything from you lately! I have a 654 that the PO put a newer/large engine into it and the hood was cut and lengthened about 10"....really shody looking, but I found the correct engine & hood.
-
3 pointsI belong to quite a few forums and have always noticed this happens as Winter sets in. Must be cabin fever. I can honestly say that I have not noticed it here though. I must have missed the posts in question.
-
3 pointsI was excited at the first things posted Bob! How can you be disappointed when people are trying to make this a better place!
-
3 pointsLike Rosanna Rosanna Danna always said "It's always something" Boy, ain't that the truth! I ordered another JD 80 clutch disc for it like I did for the last two, should be here later in the week so I can get it JB Welded in place.

3 pointsThis is one great forum for aficionados of these tractors and it would truly be a shame to see it degraded in any way. There are lots of members here that I think of as friends though I have never met them in person, but we share a common interest, a kinship to these old tractors. Lets clean it up and get on with the business of helping out one another and sharing our knowledge.

3 pointsI know I'm running a little late but here's what I'm going to use this winter for snow removal its a commando 8 with cast inside wheel weights on the back and I have 3 sets of front wheel weights under the seat and a set on the front and I installed a new stainless steel wear bar on the blade this year

3 pointsMy dad...still kicking on his way to 92 years old...was in the AF as a bombardier flying on a B-24 out of Italy over the Alps. he was about 21 at the time and the OLDEST of the crew....the pilot being just 19 years old..... http://www.wwiimemorial.com/registry/search/pframe.asp?HonoreeID=1838015&popcount=1&tcount=1

3 pointsMy Dad was in the Navy from 1941-1945 as an aviation mechanic. My uncle was on the Indianapolis when it went down. He was one of the fortunate survivors but never would talk about it. I have always wondered what incredible stories he must have had that he couldn't share.
-
3 pointsThree of my uncle's just happen to be of that age when the bombs hit. Actually yesterday my mom and me had this discussion about this. She told me you should have seen the look on gandma's and grandpa's face when the news hit home knowing that the three boys would be called up. They all three seen heavy battle but they all made it home thankfully. This is kind of why I buy American!
-
3 pointsMy Grandpa was there, and while Not stationed on the USS Arizona, he was on Board during the attack. I am proud to say that I have his medals, and commendations. I too am sad that they are not continuing the Pearl Harbor Ceremony... Several times today, I took time to say thank you to my grandpa, I know he's looking down and hopefully he's proud of what he see's , I certainly am proud to say he was my Grandpa!
-
2 pointsMods I apologize if this is inappropriate to post, but this is just a good read about a guy telling stories of his childhood and grampa's tractor. does anyone recognize if it is a horse? http://creative-vapors.com/essays/tractor-rides/

2 points6-2211 is a 32" model used on 1968 500 Special model 1-3631 1968 Commando 6 model 1-4631 1968 Commando 8 model 1-4831 1969 WorkHorse 700 model 1-3741 1969 WorkHorse 700 model 1-3745 It's too narrow for a 414-8 and does not fit models with the front quick hitch. Garry Adding Here is a parts list so you can see what the 6-2211 style looks like. This one has a bolt in the rear frame that goes through the tractor frame. Snowthowers for the C-Series except C-195 Twin Auto and the 300, 400 and 500-Series 1973-2007 will fit. Here is a parts list so you can see what they are like. These have a 5/8" solid round bar that goes into the front quick hitch. Make sure you get the flag and lift tube with a snowthrower when you find one. They often get missed or forgotten.
-
2 pointsSo.. What your saying is.... you voiced your opinion and someone didn't like it.. Anyway we will let the past deal with itself. No need to bring it all back up. I was just assuming that two guys that maybe Austin didn't know where going back and forth (like we often do Geno) just having fun and it may have looked as if we were serious.

2 pointsI've been putting off saying something in several of these threads but enough is enough! Take it from someone who has only been here 5 months, it is getting worse! I can't believe we are supposed to be examples to younger Wheel Horse people and this is what they get!? Any one especially my age or older should be damn ashamed of themselves! I come here to relax and some nights this place seems like a soap opera or a bunch of kindergardeners fighting over something stupid! Makes me want to leave sometimes! My dad taught me better and said it best and you should all take heed - If you don't have something good to say don't say anything at all! I'm sure all the mods and most eveyone here would agree! You guys constantly bickering over stupid stuff is something we could all do without. Do it in PMs if you most but let the rest of us enjoy our time here.

2 pointsGrandpa and great uncle were in the Army at the time. Grandpa had double duty. He was a tank driver and he was a nurse. Yes nurse. When he was not actively driving the tank, they would put him in whatever "make shift" hospital to assist with any medical needs. Rob
