Today I did some Horse tradin with Craig (AMCRules) I have always liked the 877 tractor's and I've had my eye on Craigs since the day I laid eyes on it. She's a keeper and will stay in its original condition. I went for a little ride on it today and when I tried to light my cigar my lighter wouldn't stay lit. I then remembered the factory cigar ligher, and it works! I bet Stevebo don't even have a working cigar lighter... Thanks Craig!

After Horse tradin with Craig yesterday later on in the day I took a 50 minute ride to Coadster32's house and picked up this 855. I think this one is going to be my wood hauler this winter. It runs absolutely MINT. today I added the rear tires with the weights off a parts tractor from Stevebo. When I got the tires off the parts tractor I couldn't believe how heavy they are. There is calcium in the tires as well, i'd have to say each tire weighs at least 125 pounds! I'm going to add some chains and put a blade on it. I think this tractor is going to be unstoppable in the snow..I'm going to either repaint the hood or find one with decent original paint.. This spring I might do a complete restore on this one..

Its a voluntary service so don't worry about making everyone happy, it is what it is and you have to make decisions based on many many factors that most people dont realize. (I worked a few years in graphic design and printing) I must say, both of those calendars are terrific and I think we should gather all the best from a couple of years and make a coffee table book... A calendar is not enough!

I got a call last year to appraise a guy's Wheel Horse for him. I went and met him and he said his uncle had this 1963 WH he wanted appraised. I told him it wasn't a 1963 but a 1961. He didn't believe me since his uncle bought it new in 1963. It has a replacement hood on it and a later square seat. So it could have been fixed up at a dealer and sold in 1963. The tractor wasn't running at the time I met him and had no spark. He worked on it for days but couldn't get it to spark at all. I appraised it for him and he said right away, did you want to buy it? I said yes and tried not to act too excited! He wanted $300.00 for it and I said I would take it for that. He called me a few days later and said his uncle didn't want to sell it after all! Dang that sucks! I got a call from him the other day and he left a message to call him. I got all excited thinking he was finally ready to sell it to me! But when I called him back he said he wanted me to repair it! Bummer. So he dropped it off last week and my buddy and I wrenched on it for several hours fixing all of the non working parts and replacing all the wrong parts on it. Turns out the coil was wired wrong, both diodes were in upside down and blown out, the gas tank was gummed up with varnish and the carb needed rebuilt, the wiring was all rigged up and needed figured out! After we got all of that repaired, I put a shine on it and it cleaned up pretty nice! He probably won't recognize it without all that barn dust on it. So it has the original H55 Tecumseh on it and it runs like a champ now! It revs up pretty high and sounds great with the original muffler and long pipe set up. It's a nice tight motor and a great style of WH, one of my favorite models they made. I got the muffler guard put back on and the drive belt guard put back on too, not pictured though. So it is a nice factory looking unit now, I charged him $200 to do all of this work which was pretty cheap I thought. The right side of it is cleaned up and the left side was still dirty at the time of these pics. I haven't got the final pics of it yet.

I just bought this one on Friday for $125.00 on CraigsList. Don't know what make it is but there is a sticker on it that says it came from Tool Shed. It is 36"x24"x36". Has a florecent light on the top and a home made foot pedal that works great. Took me about 40 minutes to do the rear wheel for my 416-H. I havbe a 5hp, 80 gal tank compressor and it ran continually. I bought a dryer but did not install it yet. A dryer is a must as I saw evidence of moisture while doing the wheel.

If it was mine....I would clean it up, put in the living room in front of the TV. get rid of my Lazy Boy and sit on it to watch TV. Then when I was ready for a beer, I would start it up and drive it to the refrigerator. The wife would probably like that cause she hates getting up to get me beers. Congrats Jason!!!

glad some of you guys are happy with the final result. there are quite a few new members on the forum who made it this year and unfortunately some of the regular calendar finalists didn't make it. there is only so many spots and it would have been even harder if there was only one version of the calendar instead of two. I'm sorry if some of you were expecting to be in there and are disappointed, but i think the results are a well rounded selection. and with spaces so limited, there was no way to squeeze any of mine in there. guess i will just go and make my own with mine in it.....

i have both versions of the 2015 calendar done. before i go any further i need to personally thank Terry Dennis for his help today on making both calendars more 'red square' than they were. i have limited editing privileges with the iPhoto calendar program i used to create them and needed some of Terry's expertise to make them look right. I'm having problems uploading them to the files section of the forum, so i uploaded them to google drive and the links to the files are below. you might get a warning that google can't scan these files for viruses because of their size. i didn't put any viruses in the files, but if you have virus software for your own piece of mind you can scan them if you really want to. i need to communicate with a moderator on whether I'm missing something here because the upload feature of the forum isn't letting me upload them to files section and i think its because of the files sizes. they both run about 28 MB. members, i hope you are all ok with my choices for the calendars, i thought long and hard about which pics to use, some pics were perfect except for a tire cut off or not enough background or something else. some of the pics weren't big enough and i asked for higher resolution shots, most of you were good about providing better pics. this task has definitely been an eyeopener for me, i am willing to do it again next year if you guys want me to, but I'm going to need more help from some of you with the quality of pics submitted. here you go...... calendar 1 https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B-Mtecq9EjlkclV6Y1BlUHpzbVU calendar 2 https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B-Mtecq9EjlkQzFUQzB0WXJHVG8

Usually they show up on CL. For dust I use a regular dust collector made for a sandblaster.

I loaned a 16 gallon Craftsman shop vac to my neighbor. I have a special filter installed that is made from Goretex. I used these when I was in the business of refilling laser toner cartridges back in the 1990's. Best darned filter I have ever seen. Since this vac is used exclusively for the blast cabinet, all the glass beads in the bottom of the vac are reused. I have found that the recycled beads work well until they become dull reddish brown. At that time I figure there is enough rust and red paint mix in that it's time to recharge the cabinet with fresh media.

Here are some more pictures for you guys. I even got a 50 pound solid brass air horn! The walk behind you can spot in some of the photos is a very rare pioneer from the late twenty's. Unfortunately I am missing a lot of the parts so if someone needs parts, let me know. This load minus the steamer and horn will be up for sale sometime, so if you spot something, let me know! I was going to use the wheel horse, but I have about 10 others that do a pretty good job as well! Lol!! I believe you are right. This one was last inspected in 1984, therefore, I am thinking that it last run under live steam back in 1984.

Go for it! Here's yesterday's update! The posty brought gifts this week. A new seat, battery and some led running lights. In between showers managed to get a bit more done... Firstly mounting my new seat, a kab p2 which is the same as the original raider had. The seat holes and spring holes don't match so the base has two new brackets made up. Then some light brackets on the front fenders And with running light fitted View from the new seat Finally new pin for the handbrake turned down and a teeny bit cut out of the fender so the handbrake clears. And not forgetting finally getting some primer on the hood and seat base before a quick stick together pic.

Here's what we have so far with the transmission. The brake shaft was known to be loose and here's why. There is no sign of the missing needle in the case and no metallic shavings. Left side axle bushing and seal removed. And some internal shots. All of the gears look good at this point. Bushing removal tool.

I have an older HF cabinet with the high top florescent light. I have had very few problems with mine. I'm very happy with it. It went together pretty well but it would help to have an extra pair of hands. Mine does not leak except when you open the door as the moulded plastic door has dimples that hold whatever media your using. I'm just in the habit of slapping the door a few times to dislodge most of the media. If you look for areas that might leak while your putting it together that's the time to do more foam or caulk sealing. My gun works ok but pacers upgrade is a good idea. I may try that using the gun from my gravity blaster. I agree with Bob that a high capacity shop vac is a must. I use a hepa filter bag filter in addition to the regular cylinder shaped filter. The only problem I have with evacuating the dust is that it also picks up a lot of the media which goes to waste. I tried to make an interior baffle to try to make the media drop before being sucked into the vac hose but it didn't work. This past year I altered a 5 gallon bucket to act as a mini cyclone filter in hopes that I can separate more media before it reaches the vacuum. Haven't had a chance to test it yet. I think it needs to be taller. My lighting is adequate but could be better. The plastic shields for the light and viewing glass are a must and can be ordered from Www.harborfreight.com. The light protector films are item #29325 and were $1.00ea. The window (Protection) film is # 29448 and were $1.00ea. FYI their ceramic nozzle kit is # 29227 includes 4 different size nozzles and was $2.75/kit. I always order about 10 each of the protectors because of the shipping cost. Mike is right. TP has a lot of good info. I hope this helps you in your decision. Sent from my tractor seat.

My experience with the HF cabinet is different from Maynards -- I have had the large HF cabinet for some 4 years now and and is arguably in the top 2-3 tools in my shop, I'm constantly going by it and cleaning anything from a rusted bolt/nut up to what ever will fit in the cabinet. You DO have to assemble it and while a bit 'fiddly' I didnt find it to be that big a deal. I DID pay attention to any area that could possibly be leak prone and caulked or added weather stripping to a few places, it has little to no leakage. The gun that came with it was not useable - the design of it caused a venturi effect at the tip causing condensation thereby causing 'clumping' of the media (any media I tried) Changing to the gun shown below solved all that problem. (Since my cabinet is older, HF may have changed the design) I have had one of these - very inexpensive - kits for many years and is my go to for large pieces, just setting up out in the yard and letting it fly. I use fine Black Beauty for out side blasting, (any thing coarser than fine in Black Beauty will clog my guns) Then I use a media from "Tacoma company" -- http://stores.ebay.com/tacomacompany/Media-Blends-/_i.html?_fsub=2605752010&_sid=739735460&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 Called "power blend" for the cabinet Here the kicker in most cases -- it takes a LOT of air to media blast, with a 2 stage compressor really needed to realize/gain the wonderful benefits of blasting. My compressor is rated at 19 CFM and when I'm doing a largish piece it will run constantly, but will hold some where around 80-100 psi. Thats not to say that any compressor wont do blasting, what happens is you will get an initial burst of air and the gun will perform well, but will quickly fall off and will not move the media, pausing and letting the compressor recover and get another short burst of use (this is where the CFM figure comes in) Another kicker is the dust inside the cabinet - it will be BAD, requiring some means of getting it out of there ... Lighting - ya gotta have it! The small fluorescent light in my cabinet performed very well for some 3 yrs and when it failed, I simply went to Home Depot and got one of the inexpensive 24" 'under the cabinet' fixtures and mounted it in there, to my old tired eyes it give plenty of light

About 21 years ago I got married and started a love afair with my wife....and a wheel horse tractor after many years of working the property mowing, hauling, pushing snow and dirt ( the wheel horse not wife) I bought a toro zero turn and put the horse in the stable for a long needed rest. Four years ago a young man in our church mentioned to me that he was starting a mowing business in town and was looking for a riding mower to use and asked if I could keep an eye out for one. After alot of soul searching I told him I would trade him my horse for 4 days of labor on my property w the understanding I would get it back if he no longer wanted it and he agreed. After mowing in the summer and plowing drives in the winter that first year or two it was parked in the front yard unprotected. On occasion I would drive by and see it still parked in the yard and tell my wife theres my first WH. Finally I could take it no longer and today I brought it back to its rightful home. He was happy to do another trade and I was happy to get my second love back. It has alot more company in the stable now but Its glade to be home too!

The grandsons are eager for white wet stuff! The 416-8 is one favorite Horse! The boys are always stoppin' by, looking for anything they can do to help the herd. Yesterday tires were cleaned, wagon was spruced up. A trip to take a peek-a-boo of what might be new at TSC. I need a rest but these boys love Horses. Any helpful recommendations appreciated. The boys are so young to be addicted....

I know that a lot of folks already have had snow, but I had Dad's B-80 out finishing up the leaves. I just use it here and there but she is really retired from the big chores. other than having a Cyclone system, I have had good luck with the Parker sweeper. I do run the 42 RD deck (416-H) and sweep but the best way is to hit them with some speed and boy those brushes sling the leaves all the way to the back of the sweeper. yes, it fills up quick that way, but I run it up on the road, dump, repeat, repeat and then dismount to rake them just off the road. I started doing it at night. I can then see if a car is coming, safety first.
