8 pointsAbout 21 years ago I got married and started a love afair with my wife....and a wheel horse tractor after many years of working the property mowing, hauling, pushing snow and dirt ( the wheel horse not wife) I bought a toro zero turn and put the horse in the stable for a long needed rest. Four years ago a young man in our church mentioned to me that he was starting a mowing business in town and was looking for a riding mower to use and asked if I could keep an eye out for one. After alot of soul searching I told him I would trade him my horse for 4 days of labor on my property w the understanding I would get it back if he no longer wanted it and he agreed. After mowing in the summer and plowing drives in the winter that first year or two it was parked in the front yard unprotected. On occasion I would drive by and see it still parked in the yard and tell my wife theres my first WH. Finally I could take it no longer and today I brought it back to its rightful home. He was happy to do another trade and I was happy to get my second love back. It has alot more company in the stable now but Its glade to be home too!

7 pointsToday I did some Horse tradin with Craig (AMCRules) I have always liked the 877 tractor's and I've had my eye on Craigs since the day I laid eyes on it. She's a keeper and will stay in its original condition. I went for a little ride on it today and when I tried to light my cigar my lighter wouldn't stay lit. I then remembered the factory cigar ligher, and it works! I bet Stevebo don't even have a working cigar lighter... Thanks Craig!

5 pointsWell.... We left with 3 tractors. C-161-A ($375), C-145-A($425), and a C-145-A chassis($90). Also bought front and rear cast iron wheel weights for $110 total and a brand new Nelson C series muffler for $35. I also bought a brand new 42" mower deck (not going to share the price on that one ðŸ˜). Most tractors sold between $300-$500 range. There was a C165-A with cab show blower, mower deck, snow blade, weights that went for $1000. They also sold a real nice commando 8 with front reel mower, mower deck, snow blade, extra tires for $500....it ran like a top. Thad

5 pointsJust to update on the sad, rusted and neglected Workhorse I got for $50. I really just wanted the deck and the wide rear wheels. But you know how it goes... Here is how I got it. I changed out the trashed high back seat for the mid seat from Northern tool. The hydro lines adventure is in the past. I did end up also having to replace the hydro control valve that was leaking. got one from Squonk (Mike) at the big show. I will break apart the leaky one and learn how to rebuild it for the future. The muffler had a deflector that had rusted off. So I used VHT header primer ,header silver paint. I had used the black color on the 416 muffler and was impressed. I got the replacement deflector for $7, a new muffler would have been $80...ouch! I had some scrap mesh and cut it to size. and the final product! I removed all the decals using the behind the metal heat gun method and I got the complete Work Horse decal set from the Vinylguy (Terry). I used Ace high temp BBQ black spray paint. its a worker resto not a full rotisserie trailer queen! Thanks to Fun Egineer (Dave) for finding me a NOS hood and bringing to the big show. I used single stage PPG Shopline acrylic enamel paint with a 4 stage Accuspray turbine system (like a big vacuum cleaner). Thanks to multiple folks on painting questions..Bob Maynard, Squonk, Bowtie, Fun Engineer, etc my first time painting (and outside so), there were drips, overspray, orange peel, occ bug! but it's the first time and the PPG is the way to go, a bit pricey when you add in the cost of hardener and reducer but it lays out nice. Obvious that I couldnt match the paint of the NOS hood that while never used, looked to have been stored in a hot shed as the decals had shrunk leaving a stickey glue edge. I can't resolve myself to sand and spray it to match the other metal since it is too nice, so I did get another hood all sprayed with new paint. I still need to paint or powder coat the original rims. I just put on the wheels off the B-80 for now. I will not use the original style front sorta rib tires and will just use turf tires and I added LED tail lights instead of the reflectors. here it is with the NOS hood for now and needs the decals put on.

4 pointsHere's more pics today one of these pictures better be on a wheel horse calendar if not on selling all my Wheel horses and buying John deere just kidding lol. We finally ended up with 70 inches

4 pointsIf it was mine....I would clean it up, put in the living room in front of the TV. get rid of my Lazy Boy and sit on it to watch TV. Then when I was ready for a beer, I would start it up and drive it to the refrigerator. The wife would probably like that cause she hates getting up to get me beers. Congrats Jason!!!

3 pointsHello, I originally joined this forum many months ago to help me figure out how muc to ask for a 1976 C-160 automatic, however after reading and seeing the love for these great machine I decided to give mine back to my Dad to help him with some snow plow duties. I needed the space for another tractor that might be a different color...... My Dad has taken this machine and has given it a quick makeover from a rattle can (regal red of course). I'll get a picture up later since we all love pictures here. Now we are thinking about adding a snowblower to the snow fighting arsenal, so I guess you will see Jeff at the big show next June. With the above being said, when Dad is ready to send the horse back home, I am keeping this baby since it has given us almost. 39 years of dependable service. Thanks for allowing me to ramble, and thanks for allowing me into your family. Jeff

3 pointsJust got to the auction this morning. The previous owner was a collector until he passed and his wife was cleaning out the garage. There is 12 wheel horses....mostly c-series, mowers, snow blades, tiller, snowblower and all kinds of parts. Hopefully can snag a few this morning! 😠Thad (Ohio)

3 pointsDrive it or don't drive it Show it like a museum piece or use it like it was intended Fortunately for me, I don't have the dough to afford to buy a NOS 420LSE, so I won't ever have to make that decision. Whatever you decide Jason, I am very happy for you, and I support your decision.

3 pointsJUST SO ALL YOU GUYS KNOW...next year is a BIG TEN ONLY thread again. Jim and I just hate to see grown men cry. I WANT MY...I WANT MY...I WANT MY BIG TEN...I WANT MY...I WANT MY...I WANT MY M-TV............THAT'S THE WAY YOU DO IT...THOSE GUYS AIN'T DUMB.

3 pointsI dread to think what would happen if that amount of snow ever hits the UK.... The country grinds to a halt if there's 6 inches on the roads as it is!

3 pointsI can see both sides here. I've sold over 10,000.00 worth of stuff on CL in the past 30 days, no joke. I've had about 20+ items on CL at one time consistently for over 5 years. I would say that well over 50% of the people never show or even call back when they say they will and don't. I am trying to do better at first come first serve because of all of the no shows. I still strike a deal with someone who seems for real sometimes still only to have a waiting list of 2-3 people to call as I spend all day trying to reach the person that absolutely had to have it and would be there first thing that morning. At the same time a few others are ready to come right now. It happened with 2 more just this past Saturday. If I do strike a deal with someone it is under stood, call before you come as it may be sold. I understand Cruisin that you know yourself and you know your word is your bond, as do I know that about myself. I also see the other side from what I try to sell and how that works most of the time. If I miss something or it doesn't work out I just figure it wasn't meant to be...

2 pointsFirst real snow and now it's time for the winter project, tear down the 400 Suburban!! Here we go! And now for the hub removal...... 12 Ton press and away we go...... More to come.

2 pointsI've had this Cub for years and never really did much with it other than drive the kids around. A few weeks ago I decided it needed a new look. Aside from the new rims and tires, I modified an aftermarket front drop axle to rake the nose 2.5 inches. I added the front plate under the grill to give it a smoother look too. The skinnier front rims are from a 49 Baird Beaver.

2 pointsI could not leave well enough alone. I added a flash controller (bought it from Squonk at the big show) and wired it into the 520. It will have the snow thrower on it so I figure with all the noise, the flashing tail lights will get some attention. the flasher has 10 modes and I didn't show it, but the controller flashes too! not sure if the video will work. let me know if you cannot see the video. using old Photobucket. That's my daughter with the colorful commentary! http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l581/varosd/th_IMG_0617_zpss5yzqxu2.mp4

2 pointsWell, I was able to barely make out on the round hood belt guard that it is indeed a 654 thank you guys for all the help in id ing both the older horses. AS far as the front wheels on the 875 as talked about from some of the members I unloaded it today and gave it a once over the tires are in great shape and are 16x5.50x8 and say wheel horse made in USA. took one off and cleaned it up in the wifes kitchen sink you got to love em when they just walk by and say thier not surprised! Other than that I dont know any thing about them. pics to follow

2 pointsNo worries Mike. As I type this I'm munching on the doughnut crumbs Jim dropped on the floor. I'll make sure you don't fall down the stairs.

2 pointsi can't tell you how well they work with wet snow. i know my walk behind Ariens does ok with the snow, wet or powdery, just push it in and let it work. it has never really clogged that bad it didn't clear itself. but we are talking about a two stage compared with a single. when it gets all done and the snow starts flying, i will let you know....... weather was warmer today, so i pushed the 416 out and set up the blower as much as i could. still have a few things to finish off as well as the chain, but got the chute rotating nice on the rollers, i hate them by the way, but thats what this one has and i will just deal with it. adding the plastic base that was offered would probably help, but a small amount of lithium grease in all the right areas got it rotating smooth. i will hook up the cable when i get some more time. also had an old belt, so checked out the pulley alignment and operated the belt a few times turning the drive shaft. nice, quiet, smooth... more pics for the pic junkies......

2 pointsGot some parts primed yesterday and started sanding on them today. also blasted the gas tank, doesn't look so good, but it should be saveable, I have seen worse before. also, finished up on sanding the sideplates, they turned out really nice. Then started installing the bushings, and seals in them. Need to find a good set of axles, or figure out a way to clean some of the burrs off mine and then I can finally put the trans back together for the last time. And paint it. Thanks, Jake

2 pointsPicked up a $50 1848 Workhorse today. PO stated that it came with the house and ran fine until last yr when the starter went out. fluids look fine, engine not seized up came with a dented in lower front 42" RD deck.
-
2 pointsLooks awesome Don... but, I'm thinking...that "colorful commentary" might have stolen the show.
-
2 pointsThe garage is just to dern cold. We have had 3 nights below 15 here this week. Anyway, I been getting some small parts off and redoing them at work. moving forward anyway.

2 pointsI've had too many people tell me they will be here and not show up. My policy is it is sold when the money is in my hand. Until that time it is for sale. Most times, that is. I have on occasion held something for someone I had a feel for, after talking to them, but rarely will I hold something after a telephone conversation. I have had folks call me and tell me they really wanted my tractor. Then when they get here they try to get me to lower my price or want to trade something. I tell them they agreed to the price I asked when they were on the telephone. If they continue to dicker, I run them off and I mean run they off with a lot of harsh words. When I see something on CL I usually tell the person I will come and take a look at as soon as it is convenient to them. I get there a little bit early but never late. I talk to the seller to get a feel for their personallity and while doing that I do whatever I need to check out the items condition. Unless something is really being sold really under value, I will of course offer a lower price but only one time. If the seller says no, I either buy it or walk away depending on if I think his price is fair. On some occasions the seller changes his mind and will not let you walk away but sell it at your price. Now if for some reason I am not prepared to take it home with me that day, I reach into my pocket and pay for it and get a receipt. To tell someone you will buy an item sight unseen, is very risky. I did just that this week. I have been looking for a Blasting Cabinet for some time. I found one about an hours drive from here on Sunday in CL. Called the seller and told him I would buy it sight unseen I told him I could not get there right away as my truck was not running but that my neighbor would bring me up on another day. He agreed to hold it for me. Because of his schedule and my neighbors conflicted a bit, I could not get there till yesterday. But we kept the communications window open almost daily. My point is that hard fast rules can be broken from time to time but the risk is always there.

2 pointsHere's a backup light setup I have on my 854. Just an trailer LED strip, but a lot brighter than you think it might be. Nothing overhead or crazy but very effective. "> "> ">

2 pointsI don't care what games are picked. It's supposed to be fun. A few border skirmishes ads to the flavor. Don't see any reason to get upset about anything! R-E-L-A-X! Maybe keep the big 10 Add ND for the love/hate crowd and maybe add a top 25 battle for a little more excitement than Perdue vs. Ilinois provides! If we get 2 many games to pick, we will have to donate to Steve so he can upgrade his Commadore 64! Mich squeaks by Maryland, Penn St beats Ill by the first quarter,Wisconsin stays home and still wins, Neb beats the Gophers because no teams from Minnesota will win this weekend! ,Mich St. and Ohio st.get bye's ! ,and Northwestern slides by Perdue even though Cutler has four turnovers! Bonus pick!!! Now that the Bears season is over, they win 2 in a row!

2 pointstest run on the Work Horse LED Tail light addition. Running and lighting just fine!. bad picture, sorry. these are the LED M9 Marker lights from superbright.

2 pointsHey guys. I checked out the tractor today and decided to get it. He has replaced the motor with a k341 16hp which started like a champ and drove strong. Although it's been modified it still fits my needs and fit all the attachments I've collected. Now I just need to get a trailer lined up to bring it home and get the snowblower hooked up. Thanks for all of the input, I really appreciate it.

2 pointsI have used a harmonic balancer puller on all the Onans I have pulled apart.

2 pointsOk, no problem. 50, live in the country, what we call the Sticks. Have 8 acres, a younger wife and we have a 2 year old daughter, hence my parade comments. I used my cub cadet to pull my daughter in the 4th of July parade last year and I thought it would be cool to have an old tractor to do the parade with next year, a few weeks later this 735 wheel horse came up for sale on an online yard sale and I couldn't help but jump. Worked a 12 hour shift and went straight after work to pick it up. Can't explain it but even as a teenager I always thought Wheel Horses were so cool! They have always stood out to me. When I had a neighbor that bought a brand new one and I found out the price I was like Ouch so I never did anything about it. I'm trying to scrap the money together to get a WH 10?? It's a 1954 model. The 1965 735 model I have well I took it to my buddies garage to make it a winter project and 3 of it just pounced on it. New battery first thing, then had to track down a wire that was unplugged, that had been spliced and taped over. Fixed that then cleaned a contact on the voltage regulator then we had spark! We got it to turn over and then sprayed a little gas in the carb and it runs, so we tracked down the no fuel problem up to the fuel pump (false as Maynard labeled it and it makes sense). So that's where I am at. Like to hunt, just not as much as I used to, banjo picker and now Wheel Horse enthusiast. Thanks for asking M_Bailey and thanks for your service! Actually I am a CT/MRI Tech at a VA hospital

2 pointsGot some wood delivered today (black locust) and stacked about 1/2 cord down near barn and took a few pics of where I stand as of today. I like the look of the stone and the wood.
-
2 pointsWell, I am back. Trip wasn't a total bust. I came back with one. Most of what was there was junk. I did pass on a 1257 that was way over priced, and he had a couple of other rust buckets that were buried under tons of other stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary. No round hoods. There was what I think was a Porter Cable Moto Mow (rough) and lots of miscellaneous parts. What I did load up though was this 1976 B-60. Lots of painted-over rust, and bad paint job, but the sheet metal is pretty straight, and there is no rust-through. The engine turns, but is missing the gas lines from the pump to carburetor, and tank to pump. Recoil still works. And the curious thing on the back? I think the previous owner (not the current seller) used this tractor in parades, and carried his dog on the back. Anyway, it's a project tractor.

2 pointsThis was liked a lot in the artistic pics thread, so I'll try it out here. Theres so many nice pics its gonna be tough to choose

2 pointsGot the steering stop assy made. Used some old steering stabilizer parts from my daughters jeep and a piece of tubing. Little bit of measuring, tack welding and testing. So far this is what I have. Once I'm sure its going to work right, i'll burn it in and clean up the edges.
-
2 pointsWasn't feeling the chain drive steering. Firewall flexed too much so I started digging in the parts bin and came across an old buggy rack n pinion from a project long ago that fizzled. I got to thinking how nice and simple it could be. Cut off the chain setup nice and easy so if I have to use it I still can. Had to mount the rack backwards so the throw would be correct. Just have to tidy up all the brackets and weld a couple more tabs on it. Also have to extend the steering rod about two inches. I hope it works.

1 pointMaryland, Penn State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue OK, since I fired my analysts I was pretty much on my own this week so here’s my reasoning for my picks. Quite simply, Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Nebraska should win their games this week. That’s not logical this year but what is this year? Penn State is about a touchdown favorite. Purdue because it’s a home game and the Wildcats probably won’t be sobered up yet after their celebration. Michigan and Maryland was a tough one so I consulted Jeff Jeffers. He said Maryland all the way. During our conversation he also mentioned (with a shaky voice) some lunatic in a Michigan t-shirt is standing in the middle of US 31 at the state line screaming “A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do†at any vehicle that didn’t have a Wolverine decal. Ready for some company Jim?
