Well, it's not "black" Friday, but tomorrow I am going "shopping". Found a guy about an hour from me who has a small barn full of garden tractors. Not all Wheel Horses, but there are a few. Don't know what I am going to come home with, but I will let you know tomorrow.

As you have probably saw on the news we have plenty of snow here in buffalo so I had an opportunity to try out a really tall chute I made. Pretty happy with the way it performed. Here is the video proof enjoy!! https://vimeo.com/112324227 https://vimeo.com/112324336 Here is a quick one that shows how I tackled this really deep snow. I did the whole driveway that way yesterday. Took a while but sure beats shoveling!! https://vimeo.com/112324600

This wall is a "dry" wall with no concrete. I wanted it to have the old time look like they would have done 100 years ago. Men finished both side of the doors today and will be back next week to start/finish the retaining wall to the left side of the front door. Fireman and I went to Lowes today and picked up all the proper insulated pipe recommended by the installer. I am going overboard and installing it right our the the stove all the out the wall and up. I know that I could get away with double wall or even single off the back but not taking that chance. We also got the 49' in the barn too. She looks right at home... I have the proper amount of room behind the truck for the doorway. Kinda like it was made for it... lol

Just returned from Columbus. Had the endoscopic ultrasound and the biopsy of the lymph nodes in the stomach area. The doctor who performed the procedure told me he was 99% sure they were benign. Will know for sure after my oncologist appt on the 26th. They had a breathing tube in me as well as the test equipment. Very sore today. That's this weeks update...:-)

I've been collecting different Wheel Horse models the past 3-4 years and I just had my first deal go wrong. I have 9 of them and the next one on my wish list is a 520. A few days ago, I found a 1990 520h (745 hours) with no deck less than an hour drive from my house for $700 or best offer. This 520h appears to be in nice condition but not perfect by any means... torn seat, lights don't work, some surface rust, missing decals on hood, at least that's what I know about it. I thought I would take a chance on this one, so I made an offer of $400 cash plus a 1962 552 Wheel Horse trade. He asked for $450 cash and my trade (perhaps a $300 value)... total deal value at $750. So, in my mind I was actually giving up more than what he originally wanted for the 520h. I accepted with condition that I couldn't pick it up till end of next week because I had to work eight consecutive 12-hour shifts. He agreed, deal sealed. Now, I just found out this very same 520h is for sale with a deck for $775. So, I ask the guy what's going on, thought we had a deal? Now he says he doesn't hold tractors, they're first come, first serve. Apparently, he's trying to get more cash for it before I can get time off work to pick it up. I'm sorry, I don't deal that way. I'm not going to clean up my tractor for him, load it on my truck, drive an hour to his place only to take a chance that he won't sell the 520h to someone else before I get there. So, I took my deal off the table... My best offer now is $500 cash, no trade. He refused my offer. I will be looking for a better 520 deal.

Thanks again for all the support and concern guys!! Just got done shoveling waist deep snow off of my roof was wishing I could get my horse up there haha. Such a weird snow too it was coming off in 10 sq ft chunks. My home is definitely built well I couldn't imagine how much weight in snow was up there. Here is a pic of right out my back door. The driveway was nearly bare yesterday!! Here is a cool video I didn't even come close to the ground when I landed lolhttps://vimeo.com/112394631 Heading out with the horse now very soon. I'll see if I can get my wife to take a few more videos.

Just get your tractor going and take it easy with it until you can see what it will do. It was made to do the job -you just can't do it all at once,!

just got back. i'm sure i broke no speed or mileage records (riding my 312) home. about 3 miles. i have no trailer of truck and don't like to ask favors if i can do it myself. old fool attitude. sold the property i bought it for and now it sits in my garage for the winter. i can mow my lawn now in 10 minutes, that includes checking it out and starting it up. fingers are frozen and the flask was empty way, way to early. pretended to blow leaves off the road all the way. police are tough here as i go by million $$ homes. didn't want to be the first to get a dwi on a wh. all went well as i told my wife nothing till i got home. by the way i'm not selling even if i just putt around. love it. tomorow the modle t comes home the same way if i can get it started. by the way i have a bunch of old car parts from the teens to the thirties, carbs, lamps, brake linings, magnetos, most not new or in great shape but a few are. i just want them all gone so, free if you are local. also have an engine with no markings that i can see, looks like a 30's-40's large briggs from online pictures, that is guiet heavy, turns freely is all i can tell you, looks fine. also free. have a great turkey day and be happy your not in buffalo.

I was beginning to think this day would never come, but I actually started my tractor today! I had a few problems with my wiring harness that I had to change and issues with the fuel filter and aftermarket carb, but it fired right up today. Might need a little adjustment, but it's too cold to mess with it today. I was really worried about the wiring, but the safety switches function correctly and the only thing left to wire are the headlights. What does everyone use to clip the wires to the frame? I bought some trailer frame wire clips that look like the original, but can't seem to get them to stay on. I'm probably going to wait till spring for the decals because I don't have heat in my garage.

I do a lot of selling on eBay which is a totally different story. But when I have tried to sell things for tractors, I always come here first and let the ad run for a few weeks. I would rather sell to a forum member have first crack at it than just anyone. If it doesn't sell that way, then I move on to the other outlets.
  23. 3 points
If I strike a deal (selling) I set a time when they are coming. If they are going to be late they better call. If they are a no- show I move on to the next. I would've dream of selling something out from under someone after a deal is made just because they can get there faster or offer more money. If I'm buying I always call first to at least let the seller know I'm on my way

:thanks: 57" blade that I picked up from a RS member that was nice enough to bring it to Kellys Charlotte show was the start of this idea. I wanted to make my favorite worker, my 95 417A, a v blade. Last winter the 48" blade didn't slow it down at all and worked like a charm! My 48" dozer blade is way too nice to cut up, so I looked on CL and came up with a 57" dozer blade for a buck fifty. Then my favorite tool of destruction came out and cut it in half The Saw Zaw The the tape measure and some figures started to run through my head and the two half's came back together with a hinge between them. The blade is know 58 1/2" wide know. I also made the mount for this blade for the A frame and the ware bars, but I forgot my camera last week as I was very busy with the Spook Train thing I do every year driving my 1/3 scale mini around at Junction Vally Railroad. Any how I used a BOSS v blade as a model for this project, and alot of your ?'s will be answered with the next pic's I will take on Sat. More to come...........

The horse was on a mission today guys. The snow was just right and it made clean up a breeze. Only thing I had to do was get off and knock down the huge pile by the house from the roof. Here's the pic from out the back door after clean up I added a piece to block the front on the lower section and it worked much better I thought here's a video. https://vimeo.com/112430515 Here's a real cool one where my bro does some on the fly editing https://vimeo.com/112430672 Definitely keeping this monster chute after today I was impressed! I just sprayed the inside with graphite spray and bolted on the lower section and put some color on that too.

And to add to what Kyle said, let her run at full throttle for a minute or two (making sure you have plenty of oil like Geno said! 10W-30 standard motor oil in the transmission) before driving it around. Sometimes these units take a minute to build pressure especially if its been sitting for years!

Seems like it's getting harder all the time to find someone that will stand behind their word. Many people don't have any pride in their actions or their word. Very sad Indeed !!

I think the main point I am trying to make is not everyone is like us. It's hard to understand why he would not make a deal and keep it like me or you would. My word is absolutely my bond no matter what the cost. That seems to have disappeared for most, and I'm afraid the good old days are gone, it's a different world than it used to be. I still love it when I can do a deal on a handshake also, but that is very rare these days finding someone you can trust enough to do that with. A lot has changed in the past 10 years let alone in my lifetime and none of it for the better. Very sad but true.

I understand what you guys are saying. I don't buy, sell and trade tens of thousands of dollars worth of tractors and parts every day/year. I buy what I want when I can afford it, maybe a couple tractors a year, and always looking for WH parts deals on eBay, clist and local tractor shows. I always make good on my word whenever I agree to a deal... never had any problem before. I would go pick up this 520 right now if I didn't have to go to work later today to make a living and pay for my hobby and other life necessities. But like was said, if this guy can't wait for me, it wasn't meant to be. I'll take my cash somewhere else and look for a better deal on a better 520. It's not like he has a long line of buyers waiting. He posted a second "last chance to buy" sale asking for more than what he originally wanted and after he accepted my offer to buy it. I won't do a deal like that. Lots of Wheel Horses for sale in PA all the time.

Gravely has another simple idea I have adopted a few times. On the older units they needed a universal joint in the crank for the chute. They knurled the ends of the two 1/2" rods making up the crank and slipped a length of 1/2" 1-wire hydraulic high pressure hose about 5 " long over the joint and clamped it to the rods with a pair of hose clamps. The knurling is necessary as the wire braid in the hose makes it hard to clamp tight. I used a sharp 1/2" cold chisel to to make a series of cuts parallel to the rod around each rod end for about 1-1/2" and used 4 hose clamps. Works really well and smooth if the bend in the rod joint is fairly sharp. Garry

Update 11:00pm just spent 12 hours outside and finally moved all the snow in my driveway and neighbors house. Had to walk 2 miles to a gas station. As I hit the main road it looked like a war zone. A 4 lane 4 road was down to one. With in 2 miles I seen at least 15 cars all over the road stuck in snow. Snowmobiles everywhere. There were road blocks everywhere cops were not letting people. I seen national guard out and large bulldozers everywhere. I just finished shoveling my roof off. For all the Wheel Horse Tractors there all sAfe and work very hard today. As we speak lighting and thunder is outside another 2 feet coming......

When you get ths back together, run the blower for a few minutes, and RETENSION! After your first good snow, DO IT AGAIN. I have been amazed at how much a new chain can stretch, and you will be very unhappy if you throw it in the middle of a huge storm. Don't ask how I learned this.

In my neck of the woods, there's a great local Toro dealer/service shop - Boyden & Perron, Inc. The photos were taken when they brought it into the garage for servicing. They've been around for almost 60 years and they were awesome! Owner came out to my house, looked around, and gave me his honest opinion that I would need a GT for snow removal because of the grade on my driveway and the length, fearing an LT would take a beating and likely have a hard time getting traction. I originally asked for a quote for a brand new Cub Cadet LTX 1050KH 24 hp with blower, chains, and weights which came to WAYYY more than I ultimately purchased this setup for and he extolled the virtues of this package above the new setup even though it meant less money for him. No attempt to up-sell me. In fact, he was fairly confident the Cub LT would let me down and was hesitant about it. He was EXTREMELY confident in the older Wheel Horse even with less horsepower due to it's being built like a tank and having the durability to hold up to snow blowing on a steep grade and the bigger tires and heavier weight for traction. Even still, he gave me my space to think about it and held it for me. Thats when I came here to do some research. After hearing all about the awesome reputation of Wheel Horse and all the great things about the 314-8, I went ahead and bought it. I've bought all my other power equipment over the years from big box stores and was not use to this level of service - it was great! Super-stoked about my new old iron and can't wait to put it to work!

That is a later one that has been added but missing a few parts. Here is the parts list for the 1973 models Irems 12-18 make up the front hitch 20 & 22 are the rear drawbar hitch The rest are the mid hitch used for the mower decks and grader blade. Hopefully someone can supply you with the parts you are missing. Does your tractor have a pto clutch to drive the snowthrower drive belt? Garry

Ok The blade is done and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. Like I said before plumbing the hydraulic lines from the original lift valve was the worst part. Hard to get to, But I was able to unbolt the valve and remove the lines from the lift cylinder, and pull it out through the dash and remove the return line to the filter. Then I installed the sae6 o-ring fitting into the valve and attach the new hose to go to the angle valves. Then I had to run a new line from the angle valves to the filter. I removed the filter housing and plumbed in a new fitting and reinstalled the filter and housing. Then I installed the fittings into the hood. They didn't turn out like I wanted, as I couldn't put all male fittings strait out. They are too close together, so I put two female connectors on top and two males on bottom on a angle. After I had it all plumbed I had to wire the valves. I made a nice switch box to control the blade and mounted it to the seat pan. The power goes from fused power when the key is on to a on-off switch just under the hood. This way if the switches get bumped with the blade off, it won't dead head the pump in the eaton trans. Last I installed the chains front and rear and its ready for old man winter or mother nature at the end of this post will be a video (if I can get it to work) of the blade wit Tom operating the blade. The original return line from the valve to the filter The new lines from the original lift valve to the angle valves and back to the filter. And the front of the tractor with the ports sticking out Last the switches and on off switches And a look of the complete tractor I cant wait for winter and the link thingy for the video
